— DrewM Things got a little weird in the NY State Senate over the last year, even by the standards of NY politics. With a judge certifying a Long Island based race, it looks like the GOP has regained the majority they held for decades after losing it in 2008.
The final vote tally gave Republican Jack Martins a narrow win over Democratic Sen. Craig Johnson in the 7th Senate District in Nassau County.Democrats went into the November elections with a 32-30 majority in the chamber.
They have controlled the Senate for two tumultuous years.
Justice Ira Warshawsky (war-SHAW-skee) finished the re-count Saturday morning.
Big deal, NY is a lost cause you might say. Well yes, that's the case on the statewide level for the foreseeable future. Right now Democrats control all statewide offices....both Senate seats, the Governor's Mansion, and the Attorney General and State Comptroller's offices. However, despite no support from the top of the ticket (remember crazy Carl Paladino?) the GOP managed to go from 2 seats to 8 and possibly 9 (NY-1 is still undecided).
Control of the state Senate means Republicans will have a seat at the redistricting table. With NY set to lose at least one and possibly two seats, drawing the new district lines is a big deal. If Democrats controlled the process entirely, you can be sure some of these new GOP Representatives would find themselves out in the cold and maybe fighting each other in newly created districts. Yes, those seats will go south and west to more reliably conservative areas but it still important that we have as many seats as possible and more importantly...maybe take out a reliably Democratic seat along the way.
Now, if the newly returned GOP majority can actually stand up to some of the Democrats more asinine proposals on the state level (I'm not holding my breath for that), that would just be gravy.

NY-1 is an important pickup for two reasons. 1) It's New York, and 2) We need every single seat we can get.
Even though we gained 63, maybe 64 seats, we have a razor-thin majority in the House. It will only take the Democrats a gain of 24 seats to take back the House.

Meanwhile the commies increase taxes to the point where even liberals who actually work can no longer take it. The people who actually work, as well as the industries in the State leave. You are left with nothing but the communist apparatchiks in power and the leeches.
At that point without federal intervention the State goes bankrupt. NY, CA, NJ, and MI have been there for a long time. And the only reason they are not all bankrupt is the federal government has been bailing them out for a long time.
That is part of the "budget cutting" that needs to be done. Not this crap the phony panel came out with.

9 NY is a lost cause. Once a State starts drifting left its almost like a morbid cancer scenario. It is impossible to turnaround through "voting". (And that even counts only legal voting)

That hasn't been the case in many decades. And the so-called "Red States" have never been getting all that federal largess. The liberals in those blue States count federal dollars going to military bases, federal park rangers, and every federal employee in the State in that number.
A State like NY gets a huge amount more federal dollars than a State like SC. Hell, I would be willing to bet that NYC gets more federal dollars than all of SC.

I went to a Bat Mitzvah there some years back and every single store sign was in a language or languages completely incomprehensible to me. Inscrutable code for "whitey go home?" It went largely unnoticed because these were uber-rich Asians, many of whom bought those huge mansions, furnished a room or two but never moved in, and left their kids there to go to school.
Until 15 or 20 years ago, San Gabriel was total white bread in some areas, heavily Hispanic in other parts. Now, driving through the freekin' San Gabriel Valley (Alhambra, San Gabriel, El Monte, Temple City)is roughly like driving from Beijing to Taipei to Seoul to Ho Chi Minh City, with a little Pyongyang thrown in.

According to local sources, Rove went to Delaware before the primary urging Republicans to support Castle. Afterward, he said O'Donnell was unlikely to win unless she could explain her finances, education and other exaggerations regarding her resume which were receiving intense media scrutiny. O'Donnell had run in the previous two elections, so it's not as if Delaware voters never heard of her before and Rove cost her the election. She just likes to talk about being anti-establishment, so the money comes in from small donors.

That's correct I mistyped, should read "tens of thousands" of missing military ballots, not millions. Or as the article says:
an additional 28,442 affidavit ballots that New Yorkers cast at the polls on Election Day because of missing registrations or other reasons and another 30,665 absentee and military ballots and scattered write-in votes.

Seriously, the city sends their prisons and prisoners to the rest of the state. First, they drove that icky manufacturing out. Then, when Wall Street hit the wall, they ran out of money. The last statistic I saw was one of every seven jobs in this state was a government job. We spend more on Medicaid than the next four states combined. Government pensions are a racket, and the recipients head to Florida to escape the state income taxes as soon as they retire. And vote Democrat in both places, hundreds if not thousands of them.
And the taxes. It costs me $600 a month in property taxes before a dime goes to my mortgage, and this isn't a mansion. Sales tax over 8%, and an income tax just south of 7%.
On the bright side, I still have a job to pay them. As long as I can make it through the snow.
