There's been a conviction in the Chandra Levy case
— Purple Avenger

Convicted of 1st degree murder. The jury was given the option of convicting on lesser charges.

Ingmar Guandique was convicted of first-degree murder for attacking Levy...

...an illegal immigrant [and gang banger] from El Salvador...

Clearly, Gary Condit (D-CA) got a pretty raw deal over this one. Congressmen (and presidents) have affairs with interns all the time, he was just monumentally unlucky enough to be having one with someone who was murdered by some random scumbag.

1 No, I would say Chandra Levy got the raw deal. This illegal asshole had been previously arrested for sex crimes and he was STILL in the U.S.

This is truly a case where someone in ICE should be sued, and not the taxpayer. The asshole who allowed this animal to remain in the country should be sued personally.

It is time we started holding these incompetence assholes responsible.

5 IMO, if you're an illegal alien who does some felony grade crime, we should pack'em off to some prison colony for life on a remote island somewhere.  Just guard the perimeter with a frigate, and let'em set up whatever kind of society they want.

The USA doesn't need to import criminals, we got plenty of homegrown.

Posted by: Purple Avenger at November 24, 2010 03:16 AM (jdBsH)

6 Condit brought his problems all on himself, he refused to cooperate with the police, wouldn't tell investigators anything he knew, and caused the police and the press to focus on him to the exclusion fo all other possibilities long after it became perfectly clear he was romantically linked to Levy. If he had cooperated they could have cleared him early on and concentrated on other suspects. They might have even found her in time to save her life. At the very least, they might have found her body a long time before they did, before it was decomposed and nothing but bone.

Unfortunately, Condit was an asshole who cared more about himself and his political reputation than about Levy. He was told this repeatedly, yet stubbornly still refused to cooperate for no valid reason, other than spite. I have no sympathy for him.

7 You don't get it, Vic. The system is broken, so what happened was regrettable but couldn't be prevented.

He got exactly what he deserved for lawyering up instead of expressing the slightest real concern about what happened to his girlfriend and child.

Hard to feel much sympathy for Condit, a 50-something  married w/kids Congressman sleeping with a naive 20-something intern, and lying about it.

As for the multiple-offender illegal alien gangbanger, he's a perfect example of why we need to get our borders secured and start deporting all illegals now.  Not only did this scum rape and murder multiple American victims before he was caught, but now American taxpayers are on the hook for this lowlife POS's food, clothing, shelter, and medical needs for the rest of his miserable life.

12 Condit testified for the prosecution.

Initially he clammed up, which is not surprising, since innocent people get railroaded by the system all the time when they open their mouths.  Levy's mother also spouted off in public suggesting he was involved.  I imagine that might put a damper on any eagerness he might have had to cooperate.  You don't cooperate with people looking to fry you.

13 They might have even found her in time to save her life.

If I understand the case correctly she was dead within minutes of this asshole attacking her. He drug her into that park, raped her and killed her.

Now we wait for the penalty phase. The question is does DC have a death penalty? Because that is what he should get, and it doesn't need to be drug out 15 years.

The SOB should be hanging from a gibbet after hanging from a rope until dead within a week.

This case just strengthens the position that illegals need amnesty so that they can get full constitutional protections in trials.

I doubt it. I remember watching footage of a group of black Park Police walking single file down a wooded path searching for her. I only mention the race because they were undoubtedly AA hires. Everyone knows that in that kind of a search you form a line abreast and systematically scour the area. Everybody but these incompetent idiots. (When I pointed that out on a Usenet thread all of the lefties started screeching that I was a racist.)

21 He wasn't an ordinary intern poker. He was a disgusting, ridiculous narcissistic swinger shaved ass pervert. Seriously.

Of course.

That doesn't excuse the media assassination that came his way though.  I'm all in favor of seeing him gone, that was goodness ultimately; but I'd much rather see it happen for the right reasons rather than false allegations.  Society degrades a little bit every time someone is falsely accused. Its no anthropological accident the 10 Commandments, the Koran, and almost every major religion have prohibitions against bearing false witness.

He lost in the subsequent primary, and the revelations about his lack of character should have been enough to accomplish that.  IMO, a significant percentage still thought he was involved in the murder though and zapped him for that reason.

Yep -- rubber chaps and all.

Does anybody else remember how all the media identified him as Gary Condit (R)? After a couple of weeks of complaints (and after it became clear he wouldn't get reelected) the MFM explained that the "R" stood for "Representative".

Posted by: Ed Anger at November 24, 2010 03:39 AM (7+pP9)

23 IMO, a significant percentage still thought he was involved in the murder though and zapped him for that reason.

Well, since he is a Democrat from CA who are all soft on illegals you could say that he did have a "part" in the murder.

So maybe he did get justice.

Posted by: Vic at November 24, 2010 03:40 AM (e4sSD)

24 At this point, too late to recover credibility, Condit's a footnote to this story. His reputation as a womanizer hardly deserved tagging him a murderer, as I posted yesterday.  But that's how his cookie crumbled.

Maybe his lawyer wasn't all that interested or good after all, not having private investigators sort this out sooner. How long did the police have the evidence and not provide it to the defense? What was the Salvadorian's motive since you don't have to murder your robbery victims?  It wasn't as if this criminal didn't know how to "live in the shadows".

Maintain focus on this criminal illegal alien found guilty in a court of law. Make HIM the poster boy for the illegal alien population for whom the Democrats are yet arranging amnesty and citizenship.  As if granting citizenship on top of the benefits cake will make good tax payers out of illegal aliens who work so hard at the jobs Americans won't do.

I think part of that was because of when it happened. Tapping an intern was especially newsworthy in those days.

It's a progression of bad:

1. Young california bimbo screwing another woman's husband

2. Middle aged ass cheating on his wife with california tart/slut

3. Illegal alien allowed to stay in country by govt

4. Illegal alien pervert murderer

4 isn't a consequence of 1. But 1 is less of a victim than she could have been.

36 Isn't the evidence that convicted this guy rather weak?  I thought it amounted to them relying on a pattern, rather than anything that placed him at the crime scene or in contact with Miss Levy?

My recollection is that the reason Condit seemed to be involved was that the evidence in Miss Levy's apartment and on her computer suggested she had a last-minute rendez-vous planned with someone she knew well just before she was headed on an out of town trip.

Irrespective of the guilty verdict on this case, I have an uneasy feeling we don't know the whole story.

37 @ed  anger, @Vic

I might be mistaken, I thought I heard once she might have been alive for a while, maybe even a few days, after she went missing. Even if I am wrong, though, the point is Condit had no way of knowing, at the time, what her situation was. For all anybody knew then at that precise time, she could have been left for dead out somewhere in the woods and clinging to life for days before she finally succumbed. Naturally, nobody wants to get caught having an affair, especially a married man with children who holds a political office, so up to a point his immediate reaction was human, but it became obvious very early on that he was involved with her, and and he continued to obfuscate and deny. He made himself a caricature of a slimy rakish politician with no cire values and no concerns over and above the next election.

38 Anybody read the sole comment in that news article?

It is cases like these that are the reason we have so many innocent people in prison, probably thousands. Guandique may well be guilty--probably is guilty--but beyong a reasonable doubt? With no eyewitnesses (unreliable, anyway), no forensic evidence, and no confession? The crime fit a pattern already associated with him? That was enough to convict him? Look, he's a bad guy. I'm glad to have him off the streets. But this kind of conviction is why we can't have the death penalty--unless we're OK with the occasional execution of the wrong man.

There is no explaining the mindset of libtards.

Posted by: Vic at November 24, 2010 03:51 AM (e4sSD)

39 Isn't the evidence that convicted this guy rather weak?

Circumstantial and based on the testimony of his prison cellmate who claimed he admitted to the murder and claimed the motive was robbery.

40 I would like to point out something you morons may have missed..

It's something I've been noticing a lot lately..

The article linked at the top of the story has no picture of Guandique.  Do you find that strange?   Google Guandique or Levy and most stories about the conviction have HER picture in it, not his.

The media will not print pictures of Hispanic men arrested or convicted of crimes.  It works against their all-out effort to sell illegal immigrants as regular people who just deserve a job and a home, blah blah blah.

On the selling us Latinos/Hispanics side of that equation, any of you TV watchers notice the meteoric rise in the use of Latino women in commercials?  They speak perfect English but many commercials that feature women as spokespersons are very apparently Latino.  In the past year or two, the use of Latinas must have increased tenfold  (though I have no data to prove this).

Posted by: Chitown Jerry at November 24, 2010 03:53 AM (Do528)

41 Condit is no victim.  Once the young staffer he was cheating on his wife with went missing, his sordid secrets were bound to come out.  By not cooperating, he only fanned the flames of focus on himself.

"...we need to get our borders secured and start deporting all illegals now."

Heh.  All the law enforcement officers in the country now arrest and convict a little over a million criminals a year.  There are anywhere from 10-20 million illegals in the country.  Do the math.

I'd agree.

Sex? How is illicit sex going to lose a Democrat's re-election these days given that it would be the exception to the rule that a politician isn't bonking someone other than their spouse. Since Clinton and Monica, sex goes so long as it's mutually consensual, and no violence reaches the press.

Illicit sex combined with federal theft isn't enough for constituents getting pork to vote against their incumbent politician. And yes, I'm smearing Charlie Rangel as a philanderer. Given Charlie Rangel's saturation in corruption, we acknowledge that it takes implication in murder for the public to turn on a Democrat politician.

That is, murder not sanctioned in advance from the top, murder not properly set and covered. Given the authoritarian ascent permeating federal government now, it isn't impossible to recognize that political murders occur out in the open.  Clinton wiped out the inconvenient, and the news reported that all those Branch Davidians were child molesters deserving what they got. No trial. "Lost" evidence. People gone up in flames for having formally requested that the Texas Rangers take them into custody, unwilling to let Janet Reno take them away. And the Democrat Gov. Ann Richards was, for the first time in her adult life, mute.

PC dictates deletion of evidence and convictions in order to enforce "social justice" reverse discrimination as Holder dismissing the case against Philadelphia's Black Panther voter intimidation of whites, among other cases dismissed in order to elevate minority crime to acceptable levels.

And locally if your Police Chief is like Austin's Acevedo, you have deleted reports so as to prove that crime statistics went down due to due diligence.

And when he dumped her, she was depressed again. That is when she went on her jog. Absolutely amazing that the article takes the whole sad, sordid story that went so bad for Levy and Condit, and in a bit a concise analysis, finds the true victim - the illegal alien scumbag murderer.

My memories are of (1) the media identifying him as Gary Condit (R) California. I truly thought he was a Republican until I dug a bit; and (2) this was the hot story line in the summer of 2001. After 9-11, appropriately, I do not believe I read a word about it until possibly years later.

Several years ago, around '99 some liberals in my church thought it would be a fine idea to open up an "overflow" homeless shelter at the church during the winter. The homeless shelter wanted to get the "lifestylers", as they called them, out of the shelter so that they wouldn't harass the women and girls who were just temporarily homeless. The church didn't think that the attached elementary school would have a problem with this. In an effort to change their mind (which I did through other means) I researched every crime to hit the paper and determined that most of them were committed by "of no fixed address" who were also illegals. I wouldn't have been particularly adverse had the overflow not been people that the shelter didn't want.

68 With or without the 30%  illegal alien prison population, prisoners need to pay their own financial cost accruing since court costs, supporting themselves via prison work while serving time.  They owe society, not visa versa.   And for all the money taxed from working American citizens to fund prison rehabilitation, the high rate of prisoner return proves a poor investment. When prisons ran work programs, they were not overpopulated or financially in debt, and illegal immigration was not the problem we have today from federal policy refusing to acknowledge responsibility to enforce laws, demanding laws be ignored and comprehensively revised to authorize what's illegal into the legal.

70 When prisons ran work programs, they were not overpopulated or financially in debt.......

But the libtards will make a movie about how evil that is. Even in 1932.

Poor old Robert E. Burns who participated in an armed robbery was celebrated as a mistreated poor individual as far back as 1932.

71 The evidence on this guy is weak. Real weak. Deos he deserve to be in jail? Oh yes, he is clearly a scumbag predator. Did he kill Levy? I dunno, but I have doubts he did. A pattern of behaviour and a jailhouse snitch? Sounds thin to me. We could all get in a twist about the "real killer" being free, but I am sure he is or will wind up in prision as well if that is the case. My experience with the prison population in Leavenworth is that there are plenty of people in there for crimes they did not commit, but there are crimes they did commit that they were never charged for.

Posted by: JamesT at November 24, 2010 05:07 AM (NLodP)

72 Damn Henry Fonda's social justice propaganda "12 Angry Men". Financial liberalism may well have been another expression of liberally elite white guilt. So long as the elite had their lawyers find tax loopholes, leaving Joe Wurzelbacher with the tax burden, the rich could afford to preach social justice without paying the bills. And consider that in Europe, the losing party in law suit pays court cost. Yet, the mentally juvenile American euroweenie wannabe sophisticates here refuse that integral burden within their imported "ideal-socialism". No surprise, crybabies and thieves require forcibly that other people provide so that liberal crime does pay.

73 My experience with the prison population in Leavenworth is that there are plenty of people in there for crimes they did not commit, but there are crimes they did commit that they were never charged for.

My experience with prison population is that every damn one of them claims to be innocent.

This guy was found guilty in DC. That in itself is hard to do so the police had to have enough evidence to convince 12 people he was guilty.

As for the newspaper story, they seldom get any story correct, especially one involving police work and crimes.

I can't believe PA's boo-hooing over Condit's career. IIRC, Condit did his level best to obstruct the investigation. If he hadn't put up roadblocks everywhere he wouldn't have looked so guilty, and the DC cops woulda--

Nevermind.

75 Vic, the latest on that take is that innocent black men were convicted just to provide the workmen on the prison chain-gang. Poor Robert. E. Burns is already a post script.

Posted by: maverick muse at November 24, 2010 05:13 AM (H+LJc)

76 I don't know how long it took to present evidence in the case, but I do know that it can't be reduced to a sentence or two which the people questioning the verdict are basing their opinion on. I'm sure there will be an appeal and we can then read more of the evidence against him.

Posted by: Moi at November 24, 2010 05:21 AM (Ez4Ql)

81 There was no evidence of rape. Part of the problem, was that it took so long to find her body that there was little evidence left. The guy was not charged with capital murder. He will be sentenced by a judge in a couple of months. Remember, a life sentence is not the same as a life without parole sentence.

Posted by: Moi at November 24, 2010 05:28 AM (Ez4Ql)

82 Prison cost per inmate increased astronomically in order to provide everything imaginable to rehabilitate them.

Results of tax funded investment? Same high rate of returning convicted prisoners. Free food, housing, education and medical care. Overcrowding.

Subsequent enforcement by courts and law enforcement officers under the federal policy became to NOT ENFORCE THE LAW. Add 30% illegal aliens to the already overcrowded prisons.

A solution, Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Maricopa County AZ tent prison.

The Federal reaction, former AZ Gov. current DHS Napolitano, with Obama and Holder, persecute AZ via non-enforcement of law and prosecute tax paying US citizens and the State of Arizona.

Meanwhile, Islamic propagandists convert prison inmates to the benefits of their patriarchal Sharia Law.

83 ...results of tax funded prison rehabilitation efforts include sending the higher educated criminal back on the streets of America, sometimes as an Islamofascist convert. Along with debt, that's the return on our tax funded investment there.

89 Condit, 60, currently resides in Phoenix, manages several real estate properties and spends much of his time with his three grandchildren from [son] Chad, 41, who lives nearby.

In 2005, father and son opened and operated together two Baskin-Robbins ice-cream parlors. "It's a family-run shop," Chad told CNN's Larry King in 2005, adding that the former congressman could sometimes be found doling out scoops from behind the counter.

Both franchises shut down after a lawsuit by Baskin-Robbins accused the Condits of mismanagement, saying they had defaulted on their payment obligations. During a one-day trial in 2007, the court ruled in the company's favor, ordering the Condits to pay $44,431 to Baskin-Robins for past fees. They were also told to pay attorney's fees and interest estimated at $60,000.

Obviously another raw deal.  Can you organize our candlelight vigil, Purple Avenger?

90 Condit's kids and his wife got all sorts of bogus appts because of their political connections. They would be appointed to serve on commissions that may meet only 1 day a month and get a $96,000 yearly salary for it. That's what happens on the state level: your cronies appoint your relatives to these bogus jobs and you are expected to reciprocate in some way. I think the wife was on some sort of garbage commission. His kids got high paying jobs they weren't qualified for, too.

During the trial:

Mr. Condit was asked [by the prosecution] why he never publicly acknowledged an affair with Levy. His voice broke slightly, and he said it was "purely based on principle."

"I think we're all entitled to some level of privacy. ... Seems like in this country we've lost a sense of decency. I didn't commit any crime; I don't think I've done anything wrong."

On cross-examination, public defender Maria Hawilo put the question to Condit directly: Did you ever have an intimate relationship with Levy?

"I have already stated I'm not going to respond to those questions," Condit said.

"You can't do this to me, I'm a citizen -- see..."

94 MISOGYNISTIC CRAP, Purple Avenger.

Condit did not get a "raw deal" after he LIED TO THE COPS. What the fuck are you willing to tolerate in a legislator? Someone who breaks the law in the course of a missing person investigation for the sake of his damn political career?

Posted by: arhooley, conflicted Californian at November 24, 2010 07:49 AM (ahLGJ)

95 Yeah, I cam back to comment on that arhooley. Here's why Condit deserved all the suspicion heaped on him at first, and why I don't forgive him for his actions with regard to CL's disappearance. He had (at least according to Chandra's papers) a scheduled tryst with her that very day..possibly even for Rock Creek Park itself, but definitely the afternoon of her murder. Chandra's frantic mother contacted him when she couldn't find her daughter. CONDIT LIED. He did not say he was supposed to meet her and didn't show. He did not express any knowlege of her plans or possible whereabouts. When police contacted him, he lied to them too. He was cowardly and probably decreased the chances of Chandra being located and the crime solved, and the natural suspicion that fell on him bc of his desire to hide his habits and relationship to the girl is HIS OWN FUCKING FAULT. Like I said before, I thought Grandique a likely and then probably killer early on. But Condit is no victim.

97 When police contacted him, he lied to them too.

Isn't that what they convicted Libby of under much more dubious circumstances? In fact, it was a case of a reporter vaguely remembering something different from what Libby remembered.

I guess when it comes to lying to cops, judges, and courts it helps a lot to be a Democrat.

About whether he can or will be deported: The U.S. Justice Department is loath to send an alien criminal to a foreign jurisdiction unless it can be assured that he will be imprisoned for the length of his term.

Danny Ortega would probably give him a medal for killing a capitalist Jew.

Really unhappy with some of the crap here about the victim. She was a kid, even younger than Monica, and in "love" with this creep congressman. I have a 24-year-old daughter; she's bright and funny and yet still has done oh-so-stupid things in her romantic life, and that's just from the part I know about.

So Condit acted suspiciously, and was treated with suspicion as a result. That doesn't sound like a raw deal, that sounds like justice.

Yeah, he got "convicted in the press" and all that, but its not like he ever spent any time in jail, or had to blow his family fortune to defend his innocence. And hey, it's not like he was completely blameless -- he did lie to the police at a critical juncture in the investigation which stalled the investigation. Hell, for all Condit knew at the time coming clean at the outset could have saved her life or at least led the police to the body about a year sooner than they actually found it.

Somewhere up above in the comments PA says Condit was "falsely accused."

Respectfully, that's a silly thing to say.  He wasn't falsely accused.  The media is what it is.  The public is entitled to speculate all they want.  If you tell me there were cops and prosecutors and other representatives of the court out there accusing Condit of being involved in the crime, then he was falsely accused.  But I don't believe that happened.  He got what he deserved.  He didn't kill that woman, Ms. Levy, and he was never punished for doing so.  He was punished exactly as he should have been by us, the court of public opinion.

No. The sooner you rule yourself out as a suspect, the sooner they can get on with solving the case. That means being cooperative.

So of course you can help them without making a confession. You can help them by telling them what her schedule was that day, who she was talking to and what was going on in her life.

Would i have a lawyer present? Sure. But I don't take that to mean "lawyering up." To me, lawyering up, means saying as little as pottible.

> Levy's mother also spouted off in public suggesting he was involved.  I imagine that might put a damper on any eagerness he might have had to cooperate.  You don't cooperate with people looking to fry you.

Yeah we should feel sorry for him, because they thought the boyfriend did it.  Boyfriends are almost always the first to be investigated, especially if they are being difficult.

If the man wasn't sleeping with her; he wouldn't have been looked at so close.

Have no sympathies for him.  Idiot was having an affair, and got caught.  Lesson:  Don't drop your pants, and think you are going to get away with it.

That is exactly what you need to do, say as little as possible.  That is what a good lawyer will tell you, and you ignore that advice at your peril.

The sooner you rule yourself out as a suspect, the sooner they can get on with solving the case. That means being cooperative.

You will never, ever be able to rule yourself out as a suspect.
