Think Progress Caught Out Completely Fabricating "Racist" Narrative
— Ace

I posted something about this yesterday, but wasn't sure of how much fakery was being alleged or could be established. In at least one instance, Think Progress had used Crash the Tea Party agent provocateurs to make the case that the Tea Party was racist.

Well, today comes more analysis. How much was faked or misrepresented? Almost all of it.

Activist 2 is a favorite of Think Progress, and no wonder: he says exactly what they hoped to hear a tea partier say, exclaiming: “I’m a proud racist, I’m white.” Think Progress liked this clip so much they played it not once, but twice.

The problem is, Activist 2 isnÂ’t a tea party protester. He is a tea party crasher.

Think Progress is well aware of this, as they pulled the few seconds of video from a nearly six-minute video of actual tea party protesters singling him out for scorn and chasing him away!

The guy seems to be wearing a Nazi shirt that just came fresh from a mail-order package. Almost like he just got it, in order to wear to the Tea Party.

This is sweet:

Activist 4?

He is the reason the original 53-second Think Progress video has shrunk down to an even more anemic 50 seconds.

His brief — inarguably racist — shout of “Go home wetbacks!” is provably a video from 2006.

Years before the tea party existed.

Nice. Nice.

When I was at the Tea Party at the Boston Common in April there were a bunch of shitheads running around with signs mocking us.

One group of a-holes had a big poster of Levi's playgirl photo with another sign "I'm Gay For Sarah Palin!"

Another group of losers wore those 18th century white wigs holding signs such as "Constitution: You don't know me!"

And another group of older liberals (unemployed yupees w/masters degrees) were dressed in tuxes and evening gowns complaining about taxes.

We pointed at all of these people and just laughed at them.

Stormfronters do show up to Tea Parties; one of them crashed the party last year. I didn't see him, but he posted a writeup in his forum, and I got sent a link to it. The gist of it was that Stormfronters don't like it at the Tea Parties. The average Tea Partier is pro-Israel; Stormfront... not so much. So they end up steaming in a corner about jooooos and not really able to mingle with the crowd.

But "RACISTS Attend Tea Party And Hide In A Corner!" doesn't make for much of a talking-point at Think Progress.

This entire meme of Tea Party racism is manufactured, it's not just Think Progress. I saw a few clips of the calcified Larry King who had several people who're still spreading the lie about legislators getting spat upon on the Capitol steps. They absolutely refuse to show any concrete proof of their charges despite all the cameras and recorders shown in clips of the event.

The lefties are floundering badly. The American people aren't stupid, but we sure are being treated like drooling imbeciles.

Posted by: BackwardsBoy at July 16, 2010 09:15 AM (i3AsK)

50 Even if someone does blow the whistle on the fabricated racism, there will always be black professional race-baiters (like one who showed up on Fox this morning) who will insist "they saw something about some racist signs they thought they saw" at a televised tea party rally, some member of Congress being called "the N-word" or spat upon.

And there will always be faux guilt-/agenda-driven tools in the media who will give them plenty of airtime to insist they saw things that didn't happen and let them make false accusations unchallenged.

Until people grow the hell up and are willing to expose racists and those who enable racism for personal gain (that would be you, Sharpton and Jackson) for the frauds they are, we're screwed.

The term wetback is a reference to illegal immigration status, predicated on the stereotype that illegals wade across the Rio Grande. Fine, in actuality many simply run across the border on dry land, or make the crossing in the back of the truck. So what? Sorry, but whatever that sentence is, RAAAACIST is NOT applicable, and simply do as we conservatives ALWAYS do in the face of the "PC": tacitly give in to liberal control of the very language we are allowed to use.

If you see someone whose last name is  "Villareal" or some such and you say that shit, and it turns out he's from a Rio Grande Valley family from the late 1700s, then yeah, "racist" would apply. You're insulting the guy based on his racial background, and you're telling him he doesn't belong in this country.

hey you know who was a 'wetback'?

One of Faisal Shithead's cab-driving buddies who lived in Boston. He came here from Pakistian via the Rio Grande.

So 'wetback' isn't racist -- it means anyone who enters here illegally by swimming across the Rio Grande. Gringo on the other hand is a racist pejorative.

It's bad when Barney Frank is the smartest one in the frame.

OK but he's not super good when it comes to history... last night for some unknown reason I clicked over to PBS and had a few laughs watching Mr Frank on Charlie Rose blaming George Bush and the republicans for Fanny and Freddie. He was on quite a roll and it seemed like the faster he talked the less sense he made. It was almost as if he was afraid that Charlie was going to argue with his attempt to rewrite history. Apparently Barney wasn't aware that there was absolutely no chance Charlie would  interrupt him unless of couse he said something negative about Obama.

154 the problem is character.  It sounds so simple but really it's integrity and character.  Republicans, Conservatives and most independents have it, there are just certain things they will not do under any circumstances, it just isn't in their DNZ.  Libs and dems on the other hand appear to not have had this character building as a part of their upbringing, to them their integrity and reputation seem not to matter.  I have my own feeling as to why this is which I would rather not share on a blog, but you all can figure it out on your own.  You know I recently said to a friend, if no one was around, would you do the right thing?   I told him that this is the most important question that you need to answer for yourself.  People like the guys pulling this scam don't answer the same way as you might.  They think it is ok to "bend the rules" for the good of their cause.  I think republicans and conservatives do things way too slowly but it may be that at each step along the way they make sure it is being done correctly rather than having to go back and fix things.  The dems/libs on the other hand figure they can always "fix" anything as long as they get their long term objective accomplished.  Once you lock into the belief system like this then you can justify almost anything, it is a slippery slope.

I don't own one, however If I were an apple guy I would consider not buying anymore products.

You spend thousands of dollars on their products and the admit they put out a lemon that has many problems, the biggest of which is its functionality as a phone, and they essentially tell you to go pound sand.

Complaining about a broken product isn't indicative of not having a life. If I buy a car with all the coolest gadgets and then it doesn't actually drive, then i'm going to be pretty pissed.

Apple needs to recall it and make the hardware fix. It is a company that has a lot of good will from customers based on its reputation for innovation and high quality products, why tarnish that reputation when it will only cost your company a couple hundred million to make the fix. Hell their stock has shed some 10 billion in value since this whole debacle began.

On Wed night, CalGuns totally pwned the LCAV anti-gun fundraising dinner in Frisco. I hadn't been on CalGuns in a while, and then I find out about this. I'm pissed that I missed it.

A little background: CG's forum is monitored very closely by all of the anti-gun organizations, ATF, FBI and various other organizations. This includes ATF and law enforcement moles who register and play agent provocateur. Several have been caught out over the years, mainly trying to entice CG members into illegal activity on the For Sale section.

Knowing that everything on the site was monitored, CG punked the Legal Community Against Violence Joyce Foundation-funded anti-gun organization (and the SF city government), and they did it WITHOUT LIFTING A FINGER. It's epic.

I agree with you.  I'm thinking of returning my phone.  It is disappointing since they are literally sitting on billions in cash.   It sort of shows how power can get to your head.  And don't forget he is sort of having a little battle with our "goo" friends.  I remember writing letter after letter asking why eric was on the board when he could in fact be a spy".......finally they realized this and off he went.

Trust me, I know this company inside and out..I lost a bet to one of my friends who emailed me "he's going to have the temerity to get up there and tell you how to hold the damn phone".....my friend was in essence right.

Unless my wife's family can't stand me, "Gringo" is not a racist pejorative in fact its increasingly being used as a term of endearment.  Like a lot of spanish and english for that matter it depends on the context and tone of the conversation.

Posted by: dananjcon at July 16, 2010 01:57 PM (pr+up)

Gringo is a slur, anyway you slice it.  The problem, though, is that anyone cares that someone else uses such slurs.  They are nothing but meaningless words. I couldn't care less if someone called me "gringo".  Frankly, I don't care what such people think of me, at all.

I'm a big Sticks and Stones person and just can't stand how everyone likes to act so "shocked" at slurs - as if they are one step below cutting someone's head off.  Slurs are nothing.  But the left has made them everything and much of the right has been dragged right along.

His brief — inarguably racist — shout of “Go home wetbacks!” is provably a video from 2006.

Even aside from other problems, how is "Go home, wetbacks!" inarguably racist, anyway?  This is the sort of disingenuous complaint that makes the whole situation beyond ridiculous.

Very arab-like.  Arabs like to say "Coos Ochtahk" and "Coos Emak" to refer to the privates of your sister and mother.  Very strong stuff in the middle east, where a slight glance by a girl can get her head handed to her ... literally..

I have to disagree.  FWIW, my T9 opinion is neutral.

Even Wiki seems to be trying to cover up the source of the word "gringo". Wiki spends more than a few sentences, on "griego" and that it predates the existence of the US as a nation, or that "gingo" is not necessarily a perjorative, or that it isn't at all, or something.

I don't buy the derivation from "griego"; I think that there are no linguistic theories that will support a change from "griego" to "gringo".

But read the Wiki section "In English".  Pay attention to the comment by Audubon, and the section "Origin from Henry VIII's Song "Green Grows the Holly" and Variants".

Now say it out loud: "Green Grow the ..." --> "Grin Gro" ('i' as in -ing)--> "Gringro" --> "gringo" ......

This looks to be the correct explanation for the source and intended meaning of "gringo".  If it isn't, then a satisfactory counter-argument needs to be made.

176 Apple needs to recall it and make the hardware fix.

After reading an article that someone linked to on the problem there can be no "fix" for this under a recall. It would require a complete redesign and replacement of the antenna system.

I can't believe they designed it the way they did. Whoever did that had to be totally ignorant of RF.

Also, this lame "case" idea is just another way of saying "duct tape".

179 FWIW, I always thought the word gringo was in the same category as cracka.

Cracker wasn't a racial pejorative initially either. It started as "Georgia Cracker" and it referred to the people whose staple diet was "cracked corn" in the early days of GA when it was being settled by the inmates of the debtors prisons.

It was an "economic pejorative" if anything.

But having said all that these words to get co-opted over time and can become racial pejoratives through usage.

After all, the one that is currently considered the worst racial slur didn't start as a racial slur to begin with either (the N-word)

Not according to the article I read. According to the article they made the phone's antenna a piece of SS band around the edge of the case. When you hold the phone in your hand it grounds out the antenna and kills reception and transmission.

If you are sitting right next to a transmission tower you may still get a bar or two but now if you are away from the tower.

It is a real piss poor design and there is no easy fix for it.

As someone already said, whoever designed this doesn't know squat about RF.  Indeed, the "fix" is basically doing what should have been done in the first place, which is insulating the antenna from outside contacts (like the user's frigging hand, for chrissakes).

Actually even doing that is not a real "fix". You still will get some inductive coupling between your hand and the antenna and will lose some of the signal. There is a reason that most phones and radios use that little rubber coated coil thingy sticking out of the top as an antenna.

That is why the duct tape and vinyl case solutions are really poor solutions. My recommendation for all the Morons is to avoid this phone like the plague.

(and that was me who said whoever designed that antenna didn't know shit about RF in another thread).

The only misinformation is in the replies to your comment. Most reviews say the reception is better and there are fewer dropped calls (though according to Jobs' numbers the iphone4 drops, what was it, 1% more calls than the 3GS?). There is a tendency for it to attenuate the signal due to the design of the antenna but it doesn't result in dropped calls. The iPhone4 (designed by guys who are apparently "totally ignorant of RF") manages to work much better with weaker signals. It's not like the test the hell out of it or have testing facilities or antenna engineers. But hey, you can believe the people calling it a "lemon", or you can believe the people who bought it. 1.7% returns versus 6% for the iPhone 3GS. It's probably such a lemon people are destroying it in a fit of rage instead of returning it. All these Apple naysayers sound like Homer Simpson in the episode with the wish granting monkey paw, asking for the turkey sandwich. "Hey! Not bad. Nice, hot mustard. Good bread.
