— Jack M. I guess.
In a sense it's sorta a metaphor for an all-consuming, bloated, ever-expanding federal program gobbling up all of America's disposable income.
But that's pretty literary, and I'm in a hurry, so I'll just hit the basics:
Drudge has a link to a story about a woman in New Jersey who is eagerly trying to put on weight to reach her target "ideal" weight of.....1,000 pounds.
And no, it isn't LauraW. She's from Connecticut.
Apparently, to reach her goal, she has to consume 12,000 calories a day, meaning that she has a weekly grocery bill of $815.
And she just keeps getting bigger and bigger, as her boyfriend, Phillippe, a "belly man" who she met on a "plus-size" dating site, is "encouraging" her to continue on her quest for four digits.
But you know the truly weird part about this whole sordid tale?
The way she funds her copious caloric intake: she raises crazy blog money from "running a website where men pay to watch her consume fast food."
First, I'm disappointed in your morons. How long have you known about this site without telling me???? When I think of all the crazy co-blogger cash you could have been sending our way going to this cow, it makes me crazy. And aroused. But mainly crazy.
Just joking. That's actually may be the first fetish that is actually too disgusting to qualify as a legitimate part of the AoS Lifestyle.
Second, do you think Slu oughta shop the word "Obamacare" onto this woman's picture to score an ugly, cheap and tawdry political point?
I kinda do. After all, Alinsky preached to "personalize", "polarize" and "freeze", right?
And there is an awful lot of woman here to personalize, polarize and freeze. That's all I'm sayin'.
Third, we should fill out a tournament style bracket as to which one of you moron's will be the first to "hit it". I've got my money on Palin Steele.

So Obamacare will cover this glutton woman? Or does she have her own insurance? Is she mentally ill? Or just a freak? Or both? Are we saying that glutton woman should or should not be able to get insurance? Or does Obamacare say she should get insurance, yet anyone over 60 with cancer through no fault of their own should be left to die?
Now I'm just... disturbed. And sort of angry.

She may reach her goal, but all that weight is probably going to kill her.
One of the objections I hear from liberals (yes - liberals) about this health care "reform" is that they really are afraid that they are going to end up paying for fat people. uh - yeah. We are all going to pay handily for other people's choices. Good or bad. And the way our country is trending fat - I'd say -- bad choices.

You've got the Alinsky part of this all wrong. Personalize NOT Personify.
Alinsky wanted his followers to pick a target.
Freeze it by cutting it off from support, so the target couldn't retreat back into a larger organization, by which "blame" could be diversified.
This was done largely by Personalization or making your target a real person. This serves two purposes. Once the target is personalized other organizations that would have likely supported the target, now see it as easier to throw the target under the bus rather than defend it, second, people hurt faster than organizations.
Last Polarize, Your either on our side, or the side of unpopular individual X. They never let the OVERREACHING philosophical argument in the question. Either you support punishing evil person X, or you are the evil support of evil person X.
A good example would be the AIG bonus getters. The enemy was "fat cats" on wall street who got "huge bonuses" for a failing enterprise. Blam the AIG bonus getters became the Personalized target for all of wall street. Guess what? Everyone looked the other way as a Bill of Attainder was passed against them; Because it was easier to throw them under the bus rather than defend them. End result? They ceded the ground that government should not interfere with corporate salary. Now where has that got them? Now government is looking into interfering with all corporate salaries, thanks to precedent. You see how neatly that works?
Choosing a fat woman as an unattractive personification of Obamacare was not what Alinsky had in mind.
And FTR on your main topic of discussion, I disagree, I think a shot so far below the belt hurts more than it helps. We should not personify Obamacare, it's ugly enough on its own.

Did the person swoon or faint? I mean, if the person fainted because of a vasovagal response (you know... "lock your knees and you pass out" kind of thing), then I'd give them a pass. They have to be there ungodly early and probably have to stand for the entire time. If, however, the person swooned in the the presence of Teh One... go ahead and at least mock them mercilessly...

Why single out fat people? Weight is 80% genetically determined, and I did not choose to be born to a family that metabolizes efficiently. Pick on people who pay for sex, shoot up drugs, and go rock climbing--those are all really fucking bad choices. And why should I have to pay for knee reconstruction for joggers, any treatment at all needed by cyclists or skiers after they crash, or therapy for the Obama girls after their mother shames them into a lifetime of eating disorder?

I would actually like to conduct the following experiment:
1. Print up a "I hate fat people!" bumper sticker.
2. Put it on an old car, park it in the mall(handicaped spot, of course)
3. film/video the reactions of people passing by.
4. Do the same with an " I hate old people!" sticker, and see what happens.
I will be willing to bet that the reaction is mostly positive to the "fat people" sticker. I think it would be a great youtube video, or the basis for a Psyc major to investigate. I can't stand those fatasses in the little carts in the grocery store, being a lard ass is NOT a disability. Speaking as a former disgusting fatassed slob, I should know......

I appreciate a more, shall we say, junoesque female figure. I think women obsess too much over their weight. Just do your best to eat healthy and get enough exercise, and then forget about it. Not every female is born to weigh 105 lbs, and thank God for that.
I'm blessed with a metabolism that keeps me relatively thin, but I don't know how long that will last -- I am in my forties now, a time when weight adds up and gets very hard to take back off. Lots of guys with my build tend to turn into those old guys with skinny arms and legs who look like they have a basketball hidden under their shirts. (And man-boobs. Shudder.)

I was very very thin for a long time. It's amazing how you can do that when you don't eat. I distinctly remember the day I got over the anorexia. I was looking at a piece of cheesecake and suddenly realized that, in fact, the world would not end if I ate it. And it didn't.
I was normal thin for a good bit after that and then my endocrine system decided to go completely and totally haywire. Besides almost killing me, it doubled my weight. In order to get the weight off now, I'd basically have to starve.
But you know what? I don't actually blame my hormones for keeping me fat. I blame the fact that I do not eat well and I do not exercise. I hate it when people totally blame their metabolism. I'll never be a size 2 again absent starvation. But I can be far healthier than I am now. That's within my control.
Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with me?
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you have standards. Get rid of those and you're all set!
