— Ace First, the newer one, Thor.
Thor is a character I was never all that interested in but the trailer makes me want to see it. A difficult question every superhero-movie director has to make is about the character's outfit -- how do you make it look enough like the comic-book version to seem faithful to it (and to build brand identity) without looking absolutely absurd? The X-Men films had a good way of handling that, sort of a good fudge; the Batman movies just ditched the costume completely in favor of black armor. Thor here looks pretty much like he does in the comics, but not silly. Plus.
As I've mentioned eighteen times, Captain America is rolling out after this one, and then the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man (plus some lesser lights who can't support their own movie, like Black Widow and Hawkeye) will team up for The Avengers. Which has got to be the first big-budget superhero team-up movie ever. (The Fantastic Four don't count because they're a team from the start, even in their own book.)
Not only is that kind of cool in its own right (at least to a superhero geek like me), but if that movie does well, the impetus for a Batman-Superman teamup will be too great for Hollywood to resist, and after that, a full Justice League team-up, with the Flash, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern.
Who's also got his own movie rolling out, so he's set.
Green Lantern is one of my favorite characters, of the many superhero characters I don't bother to read about at all. Ryan Reynolds is a decent enough choice. Everything looks okay, except for that weirdly-glowing suit, which looks like the Original Pimp version of a superhero costume. I guess they thought the classic black and green costume looked weak, so... they made Green Lantern look like a Tijuana man-whore who discovered a Power Ring in a john's fanny-pack.
I think that suit, just right there, is going to ruin this movie for me. Too bad. Everything else seemed pretty good.
Also, from Hot Air, the teaser for the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. They ditched the Elf and Keira Knightly, I guess, which is probably good thing, as the second two movies were incredibly bloated and tedious in plotting as they strained mightily to give those two stuff to do. And would not let up with the "we're pirates, so we constantly screw each other over" crap, which was so tedious in the set-up and without any dramatic effect because of course we knew they weren't going to screw each other over at the end.
Plus, didn't the Elf lose his heart and become some kind of monster who can only come ashore every ten years? Yeah, I think he did. So I guess that means he's out of the movie. Except for a cameo, maybe.

Thor? meh.. I read the comic books when I could find them used, but rarely bought them new. I usually cheered for Loki anyway!
The Avengers would be something I'd like to see.. but the Justice League would be awesome! Not crazy about the new Superman though.

Green Lantern as well. Kicks a lot of ass. The guy writing it right now is putting out the best stuff of the character's history.
The movies...look iffy. Black Asgardians? Don't get me wrong, but weren't the Vikings lilly white? Just kind of PC, don't you think? Not that it matters, as long as the movie is properly epic.
Green Lantern, I agree with Ace about the costume. What in God's name were they thinking? Reminds me of that shitty Mark Hamill movie, The Guyver. Ever see that? Based on an even shittier Japanese comic. Terrible. Why is the costume supposed to be all muscle and tendon-y like that? I thought the trend was replacing head to toe spandex with head to toe leather, not head to toe...whatever the hell that is. Movie could be cool as all hell, but Reynolds looks ridiculous.

Did you look at the trailer? I don't think the "abs" was the "package" they are banking on.

Yep! I lub the costume....but I watch these movies are for all the wrong (OK, right) reasons. Heros....strong men, great bods...what's not to love?
OH, great shade of green-- shamrocky blue without any yellow (which looks like baby poop). Good call from the designers.

Pessimistic about Lantern -- it looks like they're trying to shoehorn GL into the now standard "irreverent jerk becomes a hero" plot.
I wish movie writers would get away from the idea that the superhero is the character who has to change during the story. Superheroes are constant, static. It's the people around them who change.

Ryan Reynolds never put on the costume you see him wear. He wore a motion capture suit for the green lantern stuff. I hope to god that they are receiving overwhelmingly negative comments about how the costume looks and choose to tone it down some, which shouldn't be that difficult since it is all cgi.

I think Thor falls into a category similar to the Incredible Hulk. In that its best if it is taken slightly serious with some moments of humor as opposed to how they approached Iron Man who can pull off a less serious attitude an be funny. I feel Captain America should be taken the same way.

It took me a moment, but that government guy interrogating Thor is agent from Iron Man. That's the kind of continuity that's going to make the coming Avengers movie work.
Yeah, I've never been much of a Thor fan, so I'm surprised that the trailor kind of makes me want to see it!
