— Ace Allah recently began to despair over the Rubio race. Not only is Crist leading as it is, but an upstart -- white -- Democrat is threatening to beat the assumed nominee, Meeks.
In the race for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate, businessman Jeff Greene has jumped to a 33 – 23 percent lead over U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, with former Miami Mayor Maurice Ferre at 4 percent. But 35 percent are undecided and 54 percent of those who name a candidate say they might change their mind…“If there was any doubt that enough money can make a political unknown into a front- runner, the Democratic Senate primary and the Republican primary for governor should lay them to rest,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
And Crist is popular enough with blacks that his allies refer to him (apparently with straight faces) as the state's "first African-American governor," though I didn't know that orange was the new black.
So: If Greene actually beats Meeks, then Greene doesn't take all those Democratic black votes with him. Instead, they go to... Crist.
And that's what a PPP poll confirms.
Just how good would it be for Charlie Crist if Jeff Greene won the Democratic nomination for the Senate in Florida? Our poll of the state a couple weeks ago found that among people who would vote for Kendrick Meek if he was the Democratic nominee only 32% would vote for Greene were he the nominee while 40% would go for Crist with Libertarian Alex Snitker getting 5% and Marco Rubio pulling 4%.There's a particularly strong disparity with black voters. If Meek is the nominee Crist loses them 39-33. If Greene is the nominee Crist wins them 61-17.
So if Greene manages to win among the hyperpartisan latte liberals that make up the primary, he goes down in crushing defeat, which would usually be a nice thing for us, but here, instead, they turn to the other liberal Democrat in the race, Charlie Crist.
So: I don't know about the rules for declaring partisan affiliation or primary voting in Florida (someone let me know if you do), but it seems to me that Rubio has the nomination locked up six ways 'till Sunday and it's time to declare Democrat and vote for Meeks in the primary.
Vote as if Rubio's senatorship depended on it, because it does.

You can apply to register to vote at any time. However, to vote in an election, you must be registered in the state by the book closing date, which is normally the 29th day before each election. The book closing dates for the 2010 election cycle are: Primary Election........ July 26, 2010 General Election........ October 4, 2010
So it's too late to change now. Darn.

See - here's the problem, right there. Any responsible voter worth having a vote has read up on this race (or any other he's voting on), and knows the issues and candidates. That voter has applied his values to that knowledge and come to an informed decision. Instead, the electorate is composed of willy-nillys that can't be bothered to learn anything (they didn't need to in school, after all) - and who will vote for whoever promises the fattest chicken for his pot.
It's no wonder we're where we are.

Funny.. I was just thinking about this exact same thing this morning. I'm still aregistered Dem.. (I was creating havoc and chaos long before it was cool) I guess I'll be voting for Meeks.
BTW, I saw Colonel Allen West in a townhall yesterday evening. The guy is an excellent speaker. Gives the red meat, but stays very factual and measured. Gave very rational and reasonable reasons for why he believes what he does. No teleprompter. Could ripoff Obama's Harvard Law review arm and beat him to death in debate. Very easy going and intelligent with the audience's questions. Definitely destined for bigger office if he so desires.

"Florida is a closed primary state. If you wish to vote in a partisan primary election, you must be a registered voter in the party for which the primary is being held. However, if all candidates for an office have the same party affiliation and the winner will not have opposition in the general election, all voters, regardless of party affiliation may vote in the primary election for that office. In addition, all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, can vote on issues and nonpartisan candidates in a primary election.
All party changes must be made by the end of the 29th day before the election."
Florida's primary election is August 24th, so anybody wanting to switch parties would have had to do so by July 29th.
/Just to make it clear now.

Rubio has been off the air, doing local gigs with supporters since Crist split the GOP ... Building his stash of cash. Crist has had little success with fund-raising. And the Democrat's are the usual loft of crooks.
Patience my friend, Was at a tea party fundraiser last week for Rubio, it was a raucous fired up affair. Nothing can replace the foot soldiers. Don't get sucked in with the media push pools.

I wonder if there might be something foul afoot in all these polls. Before Crist showed us he was unfit for office by changing parties sold out, Rubio was kicking his ass in every poll. Now, he's way behind? This just doesn't make sense.
Anyone who would vote for Crist after the party switch should be beaten severly about the head and shoulder area with a stick. It just might whup some sense into them.

Ya'll are just a little too nervous.
1. Don't trust PPP - a Dem polling operation that totally screwed up NY-23
2. Rubio is siting on a huge pile of cash and a crapload of advertising material, courtesy of Guv Orange-Glow, that he shouldn't unleash until after the primaries/Labor Day when the uninformed will be paying some attention
3. Floridians are focused on and sick of the mud-slinging spots in the FL GOP governor's primary between McCollum and Scott. If Rubio were to advertise now, his $ would be wasted, as he would be lost in the shuffle.
4. Debates - Rubio will clean up the floor with Crist and anyone else.
Rubio is playing it right. Patience and strategery will pay off.

I know this comment is going to bring a ton of scorn down upon my head, but I think a whole lot of people saw this coming when Marco Rubio decided to enter the primary. So now we are on the brink of a Charlie Crist winning in FL. and probably caucusing with the Democrats to save his political career instead of being elected as a Republican and voting with the Republican Party probably 75-80% of the time.
So now the likely score come November is:
Democratic Party: 2 (NV, FL at least)
Tea Party: 0
I hate to sound Frummian, but I would rather have people in the Senate that are conservative 75% of the time(hell, 40% would be better than nothing)rather than the 0% we are going to get in NV, for certain, and probably FL.

I suppose it's too much to ask, but shouldn't we have a clear idea of how the people we send to Washington will vote? Why should we have to guess which way a representative will vote? It's clear that they don't think the people have enough sense to make an educated decision. I'm tired of the old switcheroo, saying one thing on the campaign trail and quite another in Washington. I don't want my reps compromising with progressives on anything.

"Wow. Those fucking retards in Florida are going to hand that race to the Democrats."
If by "fucking retards" you mean Tea Partiers, yes, you are accurate. They need to be a wee bit more pragmatic at the ballot box. Instead we are looking at an almost certain loss in NV when it should have been a landslide victory, a loss in FL, and potential losses in KY and DE(if O'Donnell is nominated). You don't stop the Obama agenda by nominating people who can't win just to make a "this is what you get" point, Erick Erickson style, by refusing to back a more moderate Republican that can actually win. Delaware is not going to elect Republicans more conservative than Mike Castle. And don't even get me started on the shit that pops up every six years regarding Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. It seems some would rather have two Democrats who would always vote with Obama in Maine rather than two that vote with Obama only 20-30% of the time. And one only need to look at the health care vote to see that the "they are just Democrats" stuff is pure bullshit.
And yeah, you can talk shit about me all you want, and bring up lame Lindsey Graham references, but at least I am fucking smart enough to realize that having a Senator that votes Republican 60% of the time is better than having a Senator that rubber stamps the Obama agenda.
You don't stop the left-wing agenda by insisting on ideological purity in states that haven't voted Republican in a presidential election since 1984.

The fact is that Greene, a billionaire, has shown that he's nuts enough to spend unlimited sums on negative ads attacking one and all. If he gets out of the primary, he'll continue to try to blitz his way past Crist, spending tens of millions more on TV ads that will closely resemble the ones Republicans would have run (i.e. hypocrisy, political chameleonism, liberal-but-not-liberal-enough-for-Dems, etc.). This will destroy Crists favorables with Independents and the few Republicans who still support him. Rubio, as the heir apparent, will then be able to sneak by with a small plurality victory.

It is a sickening plummet, considering that she was earning $56,000 a year in her old job, enjoyed vacationing in places like Mexico and the Caribbean, and had started business school in 2008 at Iona College.
Honestly, I get the feeling that she was spending and not saving much money. My husband and I make a lot more money than she did, and we have never vacationed in the Caribbean or Mexico. I paid off my student loans before I got married, we don't have any car payments and we are almost finished paying for our house, and we give money to charity. We also have been saving money. We live comfortably, but we live within our means!
She also complained of having 92,000 dollars of student loan debt for a degree she cannot use. The article mentions that her 3 adult sons aren't in any position to help her, and at one point, she says she's going to have to save herself by getting a job--gee what a novel concept. If McCain wasn't nominated in 2008, dunces like Bob would be saying the exact same thing.
We tried it your way on a national level, Bob, and we got spanked.
BTW, if you need proof your way is a failure on a state level, ever heard of Lincoln Chafee? Case closed. QED.

But apparently we can stop the left-wing agenda by electing "conservatives" that will be at the front of the Democrat buffet line whenever their votes are needed to help install a new Stalinist brick in the wall. Because those 60% guys you're so enamored with generally build up that 60% bullshit "conservative" street cred by casting completely inconsequential votes with their party. When "history calls", they pick up the blue phone every time.
I understand that majorities are important for setting agendas and for committee apportionment, but I'm having trouble grasping the idea that we can't expect a little bit more red meat from our candidates in such apparently hard-left outposts as Kentucky, Florida, and Nevada.
Screw the RINOs. And screw the Maine witches and their sub-50 ACU scores. I don't enjoy having my freedom held hostage by a couple of rudderless shrews from a freak state that allows lobsters to sit on the county commissions and where every inexplicable horror committed since Stephen King started writing has occurred. Pennywise and pound foolish my ass.

The article said they weren't in a position to help. There are a lot of people out there who are barely scraping by. In the "Great Depression" there was at least California to pack up and move to. There is no California this time. Not in this country.
My bet is that her sons, even if they aren't in a position to help, still will. And that will probably hurt their families as well. I think that the whole situation is probably pretty heartbreaking for the entire family, from the way it sounds.

speaking of panicking at the disco...
isn't it about time for the social libs in the Republican party to tell the social cons to shut up? Or will they wait until after the elections to blame the losses on us?
that's a 50-50 toss up.
Because, i would say america on the whole argees with maybe 50 percent of what the social cons believe, and vice versa with the social libs.
also, you can't win with half a party. I fall into both categories on many issues, as i am sure most republicans do.

I'll tell you the GOP's biggest blunder in 2010.
They didn't go after the trade union rank & file. The union bosses in the construction are screwing over their membership because they're entrenched in the Democrat party.
AND the Democrats are killing the construction industry with all their sill regulations.

I'll say its flawed. Most people don't consider them a RINO with a 90% rating unless they consistently vote with the Dems on the big socialist bills that the Party is trying to kill.
And no you don't stop the left wing agenda if you vote for left wing Republicans either.
We tried the squish route every since Newt was kicked out of the congress by the left wing version of the Republican leadership. We have lost ground steadily ever since then.
2008 was the pinnacle. If you dumb asses who keep insisting on so-called moderates haven't learned your lesson yet what you need to do is get out of the Party and form another one called the "Hot Coco Party".
Your slogan can be "no issue is so important to that compromise is not possible and no hill is ever worth dying on".

Does it happen to come in, oh I dunno, October, by any chance?

How I long for the days when we actually made things for each other. Before Cliton decided that we should become a "service" economy. Can there be any doubt that this worldwide economy thing just isn't working? Yeah, we have cheap prices for things like iPhones, but we don't have any jobs or money to buy them.
It wasn't always this way. We once had an economy that had far fewer fluctuations than we do now because there was always a demand for hardware somewhere. Somebody always needed a new widget, and we could make them. We once mined our own ore, created our own steel, and machined our own parts, molded our own plastic parts. Now, all we can do is watch a third world country with a communist government exploit its people in a market we used to own, but gave away.
We sure could use all those manufacturing jobs right about now, couldn't we?
*sigh*

Sounds good to me. My bet is that their would be more life gaurds, less litter, less crime, etc. I would hire super hot bikini models to serve snacks, drinks and beach supplies, offer discounted swimming lessons (I hear they could use them in LA) and live shows on the beach. And to show I'm a good sport, give out coupons for local buisnesses with paid admission to my stretch of beach.

So democratic party goes for orange faced two faced opportunist over "authentic" black candidate with experience and a father who was also in politics. Dems only care about wining- principles are only necessary if you're accusing your competition about the lack of them.

Wrong. Both of the Maine sisters' ACU ratings (47.88 & 49.43), while far from excellent, are better than ANY other Democrat in the Senate. The only one even CLOSE is Ben Nelson - who, aside from his dispicable HCR vote, has been in a tizzy trying to distance himself from Democrats in order to save himself in 2012.
No other Democrat in the Senate is anywhere NEAR as Conservative as they are. Further, they are both votes for Mitch McConnell as majority leader, which, you know is kind of important. It would be a hell of a lot easier for them to become Democrats but they don't because they aren't. And I say that as someone who disagrees with them quite often.
Yes, how right you are:
2009 - 48/48
2008 - 12/20 - That's Kennedy material there
2007 - 28/36
2006 - 36/48
I gave them too much credit. This is aside from their constant back stabs on the committees and breaking on major issues.
They are totally worthless as Republicans.

Remember in the movie Trading Places when Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd were waiting for the right time to start selling the stock? Eddie kept getting antsy and Aykroyd kept saying "Not yet, not yet..." Eventually, he looked at Eddie and said "Now", and the selloff began.
Marco Rubio is Dan Aykroyd's character. He's stashing his money, since he's running unopposed in the primary. He doesn't want to show his hand too early. After the 8/24 primary, he'll have a ton of money and 2.5 months to bash Crist and bring the GOP base home. Charlie won't have the money. The Dem nominee isn't going to win. Rubio is patiently waiting for the "Now" time to unload.
That Green is competitive in the Dem primary is amazing to me. Dude had lived in California and ran for Congress as a Republican, before moving to FL only two years ago. Why the Dem base would vote for a Republican carpetbagger who had Mike Tyson as best man at his wedding is a mystery to me.
