— DrewM Looks like NY got very lucky last night.
"It appeared that [the bomb] was in the process of detonating and malfunctioned," said police spokesman Paul Browne.A street vendor alerted a policeman on mounted patrol—Wayne Rhatigan, 47 years old, a 19-year-veteran of the force. In an interview, Mr. Rhatigan said he smelled gunpowder coming from the vehicle and went toward it, thinking it could explode at any second. He grabbed two other officers to help move people away from the smoking Pathfinder as he called for backup at 6:34 p.m.
Police blocked the area from West 43rd to 47th streets along Broadway and Seventh Avenue with metal railings. Parts of West 48th Street were also closed. Most of the streets were reopened Sunday morning after police removed the Pathfinder.
Police later said the Pathfinder was spotted on security video at 6:28 p.m. The video wasn't clear enough to identify the driver and no videos have been found showing the suspect in the attack, police said.
Interesting note about the location of the attempted attack.
The dark green Nissan Pathfinder with tinted windows was parked near the junction of 45th Street and Broadway. The location is also adjacent to the Viacom building, fuelling speculation that it might be linked to the company's controversial South Park cartoon which recently depicted Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit.
Could be a conincidence. Or not.
Since no one was hurt (this time), an amusing observation from TV's Andy Levy.
Watching a mayor give an emergency press conference while still in black tie from a party makes me feel like I'm living in a Batman movie.

Which reminds me, a Batman comic book thread would make an excellent Morning/Noon/ and Afternoon thread, right before Overnight Bicycle Chain.
Thanks!

A few weeks after 9/11 things returned to normal. By normal, I mean all the race pimps and muslim apologists started to rear their ugly heads again.
For instance, the race pimps complained about a certain (candid, unposed, spontaneous) photo of three white firefighters propping up the USA flag on a pile of WTC rubble. Remember that? They wanted another photo taken with at least one black person in it.

I read some crazy things re: the oil leak last night. One was conjecture that they hit a pocket of oil with crazy pressure, and it blew all the valves apart, and that we won't be able to close the leak. The other was that the NorKors shot a torpedo at the rig.

One replica of the photo even generated controversy. In December 2001, the New York Fire Department unveiled a study of a memorial statue based on the picture, but with the firefighers as black, Latino and white. The three original men are all Caucasian.
Many of the complaints about the statue came from New York firefighters themselves. They criticized their department for being politically correct and "rewriting history," as the father of fireman Thomas Casoria, a WTC victim, said.

That's strong evidence of a whole group working on this, unless the MFM is going to push the idea that a lone guy was running around the city, stealing an SUV form one place, stealing a plate from another place, storing them, building the bomb, driving it all to Times Square ...
False accusations of spitting are trumped up as fact for weeks (as if spitting is even violent - that was a whole new one on me) even against direct video evidence, but clear indications that this was a professional car bomb (dismissing the "amateurish" idiocy, as that is what "improvised" in IED tends to designate, outside of Iranian manufactured ones) placed by a working terrorist cell are not even seriously broached, yet.
And, I would not call this a failed attempt. It was a dud as a bomb, but it was effective as a terrorist attack, as the public has gotten the message. It seems that the only ones who haven't gotten the message (as if we didn't know that they are just lying scumbags, anyway) are the idiots in government who love to tell us how the work of terrorist cells are nothing but individuals going nuts for a bit. If ti were up to me, I'd have the heads of Homeland Insecurity, the FBI and the other federal agencies who have intentionally lied about all these attacks (successful and duds) up on charges - and I would be dragging the MFM in, too.

It's a money and liberation theology, brought up to date, that have Roger getting face time in the papers now. Deflect attention from the pedophiles and bring in the money from millions of Mexicans for the church. In the LA Times, Mahoney even says himself that the church's participation in the illegal immigration stuff is a way to move forward from the sex scandals.
Way to go, you master of cover up, Mahoney, you opportunist.

A group of protesters demonstrating at a May Day rally for workerÂ’s and immigrant rights downtown broke off into a riot vandalizing about a dozen businesses around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Windows were left shattered and graffiti including anarchy signs were tagged onto buildings. The Rittenhouse Building, Urban Outfitters, Jamba Juice and Velvet Underground all had windows broken, according to Capt. Steve Clark.
Santa Cruz police asked for help from all agencies in the county to break up the riot of about 200 people. At one point, protesters lit a fire on the porch of Caffe Pergolesi and blocked access to firefighters, officers said. Police were able to clear out the demonstrators before more damage was caused.

It was presented as a non-terrorism story and barely mentioned in the press.
Guy from Pace University found in the tunnel under the East River at 5:30 am, wearing knee-high boots, a reflective vest, and a hard hat, and carrying cyanide (one source said pellets, another said liquid) and flares. He claimed he was trying to kill himself with the cyanide in a place where his body wouldn't be found. Was interviewed by transit police and homeland security, who told the NYT that they believed his story.
Of course, they didn't seem to have any explanation for his, let's call it unique, suicide plan. I think he was going to use the flares to stop a train, climb on board pretending to be a transit worker, and gas everybody.

A commenter here said this: If those pipes blow, and if it's true they blew the first time due to a mix of natural gas and oil (and heat), then it's likely they will, and thus it is entirely possible the whole Atlantic and part of the Pacific will end up covered THICK in oil.

Doctors have told me that when I feel it, the best thing to do is just release it. Otherwise, I could die. Because I could get Uromysitisis poisoning and die. That's why!...Do you think I enjoy living like this?...the shame, the humiliation...You know I have been issued a public urination pass by the city because of my condition. Try not to be offended.
Posted by: jmflynny at May 02, 2010 04:05 PM (uyljC)
Maybe instead of an “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day,” we should have a “Beg a Muslim Not to Kill You Day,” in which non-Muslims swarm mosques and halal markets and anyone walking down the street in a hijab or in the company of a woman wearing a hijab, and we all prostrate ourselves in front of them, wailing and screaming, “Please don’t kill us! Please don’t blow yourself up or chop off our heads!”
It’d be great street theater. But of course, instead of its desired impact – to shame our fellow Muslims into speaking out against their murderous extremist brethren – I fear we’d all be brought up on hate speech charges for insinuating that our Muslim fellow citizens might ever harbor murderous intent.

Wiehl is pretty dumb. I don't think she ever won a debate in all the times I've seen her on Fox. I got a kick out of her first book, which was called something like "Winning Every Argument" that people used to plug on Fox (with a straight face). Right after, she would go on to lose an argument.
But, I don't dislike Lis. She's not nasty or anything. I've just never seen her offer anything of value in her appearances, other than her breasts. But, that's good enough.

What bomb?
Call me cynical, but it almost seems as if someone were trying to make what would seem to be a bomb, but not have much impact. Almost by design.
Propane IN a tank, not very hazardous. Propane gas in sufficeint density to create a big explosion would "gas", not liquid. The same could be said for the gasoline in five gallon containers. Liquid, not so dangerous. Set ablaze, it would be a good fire, but a lousy explosion. Same thing with the so-called fertilizer. My understanding is that it is dangerous when combined with diesel, ala McVeigh's bomb, not just sitting in a vehicle with other combustibles.
Worst.
Bomb.
Ever.
or something that is supposed to resemble a bomb, but not actually be lethal.
Mark my words, there's more to this than the obvious failed bombing.

Propane gas in sufficeint density to create a big explosion would "gas", not liquid.
When I debated energy in high school, we went up against a team that attacked our plan by saying that LNG was explosive, and that the big ships and other containers were too much of a hazard; thus, because of this disadvantage ("DA") we should turn to LNG, yada yada yada.
My parnter and I scratched our heads for a minute, and he pointed out to me the LNG cannot explode, that it can't even burn. I knew he was right--technically. It has to become a gas, if even at the tiniest level, and mix with oxygen. I responded that the negative team had not established by proof that LNG can burn, much less explode. We won.
That only worked once.

For instance, the race pimps complained about a certain (candid, unposed, spontaneous) photo of three white firefighters propping up the USA flag on a pile of WTC rubble. Remember that? They wanted another photo taken with at least one black person in it.
That was Shithead Sharpton, who whined when a statue of the photo was proposed. He wanted one black, one hispanic, and well, if ya HAVE to, one honkey fireman in the statue.
For once, the black community told him to shut the fuck up.
BUT the slime mold succeeded, in a way. The statue was never made. God forbid that we call attention to the fact that almost every last fucking hero on that day was a white man.
