Too Late, SEIU
— Ace

This ad, courtesy of AdLib, is showing up on the internet, including on right-leaning sites like BigGovernment:

Lee Doren did some research and finds:

It is paid for by the American Public Policy Committee. Well, according to opensecrets.org, the two donors for American Public Policy Committee this year are Patriot Majority and Patriot Majority West.

However, according to opensecrets.org, the 2nd largest contributor in 2008 to Patriot Majority was SEIU and other top Unions around America.

Lefties sure have a lot of money to squander on abject nonsense.

1 Whew!  I guess I can stop worrying about the Dems spending us into oblivion.

Why do they go through so many front organizations to hide these things? Maybe they do not want their members to know how they are wasting their dues.

Meanwhile the retirement and medical funds that the union members are funding are underfunded.

3 The left does not want American values to "get a foothold."

4 Unions.  What's the point?  These rat bastards are more corrupt than the Obama administration.

5 I agree. These Tea Party Peasant are atrocious! Don't they know that their position is to generate taxes for the nobility to spend as we see fit?

6 Are soldiers in US Military allowed to unionize? If not, why should it be legal for any Govt employee to unionize? Make it illegal for Govt employees (including teachers and administrators in Govt owned schools) and that will break the back of Democrap party. They are nothing if their biggest backers, the organized thugs at SEIU are neutralized.

7 SEIU, wouldn't wanna be you.

From the open secrets info, the SEIU is the 2nd highest contributor, but by far the biggest is the #1 contributor... which is another public employee union.  Either way, it's a government employee front group, with scattered contributions from other unions.

There's definitely something wrong with a government employee union lobbying the government for more government spending, though I know nothing will be done about it.

9 That's funny, I saw this today too, and dug around and found the same thing.

10 If the tea party is over, what are they worried about?

Posted by: Waterhouse at January 29, 2010 09:03 AM (RwPdb)

11 Tushar, the military can't, but civilian military employees are forced to join either SEIU or one of its subsidiaries, even if they are regular military working on base as civilians in their normal military job.  My wife pays union dues unwillingly to work at her ANG base as a civillian.

It sucks and needs to end.

I'm getting ever closer to getting some SEIU purple t-shirts and stapling them to the target holder in my back yard.

Might as well make practice as realistic as what the future seems to hold.

It sucks and needs to end.

It used to be unlawful for government employees to belong to a union but a 1962 executive order from JFK ended that.

Which lends credence to the theories that JFK was mobbed up.

I don't know if we can be satisfied with just disclosure when the parties responsible are layers and layers behind the curtain. Political ads should designate the actual source of the money being used rather than the shells the money passed through. But in this case I guess the money ultimately came from Iggy Knowblitz and his pals at the Illinois DOT.

Tough problem here. Anybody got any ideas?

They are telling the Left that the Tea Party is over?  Good.

It'll be that much more of a shock to them when the Tea Parties start up again in the spring.

Posted by: Speller at January 29, 2010 09:25 AM (o0R2E)

19 Heh!  Kind of like Obama telling us that the recession is over.  Just because you want something to be true, doesn't make it so.

Posted by: runningrn at January 29, 2010 09:28 AM (CfmlF)

20 The Tea Party will be "over" when the free-spending, liberty-snatching, socialist scoundrels are all driven from office.

That includes Obie, as well.

21 Lefties sure have a lot of money to squander on abject nonsense.

I always thought it was interesting that the teachers union in CA always whined about how education and teacher funding is always being cut, yet they somehow always had enough money to pay for ads against any ballot measures that would cut education because there's no money in the state.  Seems lefties never have enough money except to fight against reform of any kind that doesn't benefit them.

I think the money comes from their pension funds.  You know those pension funds that are always coming up short and being topped off with our taxes?

Posted by: Speller at January 29, 2010 09:55 AM (o0R2E)

23 I saw one of these ads on NRO 2 days ago.  Kept refreshing the page and it kept popping up.  I thought it was a joke at first.

Don't like the union BS?  Want to somehow take them down?  Consider checking out:

right-to-work dot org

If union membership were not mandatory there would be fewer members and therefore, less money to pervert/subvert America.

25 So let me get this straight,  if this shows up on a conservative site and I click through, money goes from SEIU to the conservative?  Why that's just awful.

26 I am so glad I live in a "right to work" state. It levels the playing field.

Posted by: Butzi at January 29, 2010 10:02 AM (qLV03)

27

My state, thankfully, is "right to work" and the unions here are constantly trying to get RTW repealed.  They tell their sheeple (and the sheeple tell their families, and so on....) that RTW is why people get fired for 'no reason' or because 'the boss doesn't like people with purple hair' and so on.

They spread lies about how everyone would make more money and have better benefits if only they had union representation, bla bla bla, while every 3 years one of the largest (unionized) local employers goes into full-blown turmoil during the contract talks.  What a crock.

Of course, if any of their employees decide NOT to join (which is their lawful right) you know they'll be the first to get laid off due to some, um, unrelated event.........not to mention the key scratches and flat tires..........

28 What was all that stink about last week's SC ruling, again?

Posted by: BuddyPC at January 29, 2010 10:16 AM (nSkOL)

29 I guess the SC ruling means simply that they don't have to hide anymore.

Posted by: Stillwater at January 29, 2010 10:28 AM (qUdDE)

30 Wow, the SEIU and King George have something in common. Other than madness and lust for power, of course.

34 The point about the big unions giving money to this "committee" is well taken. I would add, as a former state employee fair share fee payer, that these big unions get their money often from other unions, so there is another level of deception to cut through.

We were forced to pay the union fair share dues, like $40 a month, and we filed suit in federal court to stop paying the portion that went to PACs. Turns out 80% of it went to PACs. That first year, $7 million went to AFL-CIO, for instance. What does AFL-CIO have to do with a bunch of clerical employees? Nothing. But our union sent it to them, who sent it to whoever, who sent it to... It's money laundering, pure and simple.

The union knows that these suits prevail, and have prevailed all over the US, but they put the burden on employees to file.

The money loop is this: the legislators give us jobs and raises, the union takes some back in mandatory fees, and then the union gives it back to the legislators. That's why Obama is propping up union jobs--they are a major campaign funding profit center.
