Toomey Up By 7 In PA Senate Race
— DrewM

It's a Rasmussen poll, so you know it's Hitler approved.

Congressman Joe SestakÂ’s post-primary bounce appears to over, and he now trails Republican rival Pat Toomey by seven points in the U.S. Senate contest in Pennsylvania.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Pennsylvania shows Toomey with 45% support, while Sestak earns 38%. Five percent (5%) prefer another candidate in the race, and 12% are undecided.

...Nearly three-out-of-four voters in the state say they have been following news stories about the secret Obama White House job offer to Sestak in hopes that he would drop his primary challenge of Specter, and 52% say that offer is at least somewhat important in terms of how they will vote. Forty-one percent (41%) view the job offer as unimportant. This includes 29% for whom it is Very Important and 20% who say itÂ’s Not At All Important.

Toomey is playing it smart
on the job offer by letting surrogates handle it while he focuses on more meat and potato issues.

I'm glad Specter was gone but I really wish he had survived long enough to let Toomey administer the finishing blow. It's the sentimentalist in me.

15 A serious question:  Are the bribery laws in Illinois significantly different from federal bribery laws?

I still think that the whole Sestak job offer thing was a ruse to convince Specter that it was safe to change parties and vote for Obamacare.  I think they told Specter that Sestak had been offered and accepted SecNav in return for bowing out of the Senate race, that Sestak played along, and that the whole time both the WH and Sestak thought they weren't doing anything wrong because it was all a LIE!

After Specter flipped and cast his vote they didn't give a sh*t anymore and just went on about their business.

That's all supposition, but it's just slimy enough to be the truth.

But to paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke: "The truth, of course, will be far slimyer"

Don't be so sure about the premise of that question.  Dick Morris (yes, I know he's a blowhard) said on Greta's show last night that the first thing Republicans will do when they take back Congress is put together a committee to draw up articles of impeachment over this and the CO (and any others we hacen't heard of yet-does anyone believe this is the only illegality the Obama regime has been involved in?).

Do I believe that?  No, they have to elect a Speaker first.  In any case it's pretty clear that Issa isn't going to let this go, and once they get subpeona power, all sorts of possibilities open up.

Posted by: Veterans for Sestak at June 04, 2010 09:47 AM (Mmw0q)

48 Not his fault the Republicans are listless ninnies.

I have some optimism that the Republicans newly elected (at least in other states-screw Illinois anyway) are better motivated than the rusted out hulks currently in Congress, and that there will be enough of them to set the agenda (with the help of the few good ones we have now) if for no other reason than the McConnell crowd doesn't have any ideas about what they should be doing.  As much as I'd like Republicans to run on "Repeal and Impeach" I don't think that's the way we get there.  It's more likely that Republicans defund Obamacare next year and he tries some creative bookkeeping of the sort that allowed him to buy GM and Chrysler, which transgresses on Congress' prerogatives enough to start the impeachment process.

As for a distracting war, I question first whether anyone in this White House has enough of a concept of what the American people care about to successfully manipulate such a thing-remember how Dems were going to get a huge bounce out of Obamacare because they 'accomplished something'?  And war where?  Somalia, Yemen?  Too small.  Iran?  To helpful to Israel.  North Korea?  Given what that would involve vis a vis Seoul, he's have to nuke the Norks.  Attack Israel in defense of the Palestinians?  That would gurantee 80 votes in the Senate to Impeach.  Mexico?  Well, that's crazy enough (not militarizing the border, but Obama doing it) it just might work.

The irony is that had people only believed him one this, one of the few times he has been truthful, we could have avoided this apocalypse. 83 the most annoying ones are the ones who pretend to be Republicans or Independents because they don't do it that well

This will be the left's downfall.  Many years ago (mid 90s), I got frustrated with an asshole at work who had a reputation for asserting shit that simply was not so.  He made a blatantly false statement during a staff meeting that made my blood pressure spike to the point that I had tunnel vision, and I snapped and interrupted him by nastily asking, "Why should I believe anything that comes out of your mouth?"

His face turned about five shades of red, and he had nothing at all to say in his defense.

He left for another job inside of two months.

He had been at that job for about five years before I got there.  Nobody ever called him on his bullshit--not even supervisors--but nobody knew why they didn't.  I know they were pissed about the crap he pulled because I heard earfuls about it.  His last name was almost openly used as a transitive verb synonymous with "screw."

I don't know why *I* never called him on it.  I had to "snap" and go off-personality to do it.

I think that nobody likes to think of other people as liars regardless of clear evidence.  In fact, I'd say that people would rather forget that somebody is a lying sack of shit rather than deal with the problem.

Concern trolls make it really hard to forget that they are lying scumbag pieces of shit who should DIAF.

86 "how did we allow Sestak did to get out of the news cycle?"

The Sestak story needs to cycle in and out of the news:
 - out long enough for news-overload to fade, yet let the truth to sink in
 - in every time there is some new, useful development

I figure that a minor rumble every day or two between now and June 10, the day after Issa does his thing, should be about right.

Perhaps a tag-team effort with Romanoff in Colorado is the plan.

I don't know if either or both stories are enough to consider impeachment, but I'd rather see political damage to The Left, the Socialists, and most Democrats.

I'd like to see The Summer of Days of Golf and Evenings of Concerts Sinners and Parties, courtesy of Big 0, N. Pelosi, H. Reid & The Democrats

Lots of reports, pictures, interviews, soundbites, avant-garde fashion, helpful dining eating advice, etc.; real Neronic stuff

Meanwhile,
 - the Norks test another nuke, mobilize a bit more and threaten S Korea,
 - Hamas & Hizballah (and maybe even Iran) have a go at Israel,
 - Hugo "Curious George" Chavez actually makes real trouble for Columbia and Ecuador, and perhaps even Brazil (and Argentina gets ideas, again),
 - Greece defaults, Spain & Italy get real shaky, and the German and French populations riot

 November will be a watershed

It was the kissing cam.  I was at a minor league game when they used it.  You show couples and get them to kiss, then the last one is always a joke, they would have the camera pointed at two of the players in the opposing team's dugout getting everyone to laugh.  I'm sure at the lakers game the kissing cam people saw two celebrities next to eachother and thought "Perfect!"

I read about a linguistics study which showed that conservatives are waaaay better at "speaking liberal" than liberals are at "speaking conservative."  I buy it.  My profession is 99.99% liberal, so I learned long ago how to become bilingual as a matter of self-preservation.  You can couch conservative opinions in lib-speak if you know how to do it right:  "I am listening to you and have meditated on your main point.  Now, here is my feedback:   I'm not sure if that's a sustainable environment for a compassionate global economy..."  If you come outright and use phrases like "abortion.," "the military," and "gun rights," you are asking for tofu poo to be flung.  Since I'm immersed in useful idiots in my work life but my family is staunchly conservative, I can switch back and forth like this on a dime.

For me, it's not pretending to be a liberal so much as anticipating how they think, and then learning the language.  You have to use phrases like "compassionate integrated solutions" and "community well-being," even if you're taking about zoning regulations for an entire Panzer division.

NUANCE!

It was an Indian man on a blog around the time of the Mumbai terrorist attack who mentioned Obama's 1981 trip to Pakistan. In 1981, Obama visits his mother and half-sister in Indonesia, and then continues on for three weeks to Karachi, Pakistan and Hyderabad, India, with his friends Chandoo and Hamid, and finally to Kenya to visit his father's family.

One of Obama's hosts in Pakistan is Muhammadian Mian Soomro, Obama's senior by 11 years, son of a Pakistani politician and himself a politician, who later becomes interim President of Pakistan when Pervez Musharraf resigns in August of 2008. Soomro states that "someone" personally requested that he "watch over" Barack Obama, but Soomro will not name that individual – who today allegedly lives in South America.

It is unknown who financed Obama's costly 1981 trip.

"Adding to the mix is the fact that Ann Dunham, ObamaÂ’s mother, had visited at least 13 countries in her lifetime, and had worked for companies that required travel to Pakistan.  Her employers appear to have included the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ford Foundation, WomenÂ’s World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).  Note that USAID and the Ford Foundation have (allegedly) been used as covers for CIA agents.  As a consultant of ADB, Dunham frequently needed to work in Gujranwala, Pakistan, on an Agricultural Development Program.  She reportedly lived (on and off) at the Hilton International Hotel (now Avari Hotel) in Lahore, and traveled each day to Gujranwala.  When Barack visited, he stayed at that same hotel."

I  won't pretend Obama is intelligent, but he does as he is told. He has been groomed for to be where he is now. How else do you explain how quickly he rose through machine politics to become POTUS with no records or accomplishments?

Maybe I'm overthinking things, as well, but very powerful people put Obama where he is. Those people, like Brzezinski and Soros as obvious examples, have been manipulating geopolitics for decades. Anyway, just throwing out a possibility.

164 I'm not winning friends and converts with the whole "facts" thing ("The shirt you're wearing in your profile picture is MADE OF PETROLEUM.")

That precisely is your problem, and why you're not getting anywhere:  You're using outright, baldly stated facts, not emotion.  These frighten and anger useful idiots.

Say it like this:  "Perhaps we should take a broader view of this issue.  Consider your point on how corporations exploit the environment.  That's very upsetting, I know.  It can permeate everyday life without us even know it about it.  For example, some fabrics are made using petroleum-- I KNOW, isn't that horrible?  I was horrified when I found out.  Sometimes the bastards sneak it in without putting it on the label.  Strongly consider checking your shirt in your profile picture, because I bet The Gap lied to you too.  Obviously, you couldn't have known that many fishes died to make that shirt you're wearing in your profile picture, because I know you really care, and you wouldn't be wearing it if you knew, but we all make mistakes, right?  It's part of growing as a human being."  Rule of thumb:  The more words, the better.

I'm a writer.  I just spent a month in a residency with a person who, after I told her a story about a scarring first date in which the non-gentleman in question TOOK IT OUT, said:  "But didn't he know you're Catholic? He should have known you wouldn't have sex."  Believe me, I know these people.

165 I don't think ol skip lee gave the right advice to the pres.  Cause really, there are no laws which say that BP has to be responsible and do the right thing.  They are from another country, they can literally just leave and shut down.  Who knows if they would do this but they just might want to save what is left of BP and they aren't willing to have this spill do the company in.  If they left, walked away, what would the prez do?  What recourse would he have?

166 By "Hitler approved", I guess Drew M is acknowledging Rasmussen has been proven to have two flavors of polls: polls that actually try to measure public opinion, and polls that simply work on the idea that public opinion can, to some extent, be driven by poll results. I actually don't care, so long as Rasmussen tells us which flavor he's putting in my cone. But he doesn't. Does Drew M know? I think he does. Thus: "Hitler approved". By the way, congrats to Drew M for the quick draw on Godwin's Law. The only way to beat it would be in the title, like "Hitler Approved: ...".

Was that intended to convey some thought?

Fail.
