While special elections often come down to turnout – and they therefore are more difficult to predict than normal elections – the combination of public and private survey research and anecdotal information now strongly suggests that Republican Scott Brown will defeat Democrat Martha Coakley in tomorrow’s race to fill the remainder of the late-Sen. Edward Kennedy’s seat.
Brown is running extremely well with Independents in the Bay State, and unless Democratic turnout exceeds everyoneÂ’s expectations, Brown is headed for a comfortable win. Move from Toss-Up to Lean Takeover.

Top headlines of the day from the MSM:
Haiti still a basket case; US and Bush to blame, but mainly Bush!
Election in MA vindicates Obama centrist policies and transparency in correcting the horrible mistakes of 8 years of the Bush regime. But if Coakley loses it is due to bad campaigning and numerous gaffes.
Evil Rush Limbaugh calls for U.S. to abandon Haiti and use money to provide corporate charity to evil fat cat CEOs.
Polls show Health Care Bill is fully supported by most Americans who demand that congress and the administration do what ever it takes to get it passed, regardless of evil Republican obstructionism in the Senate.
On the lighter side; doesnÂ’t the golden globe awards show how far Hollywood has come in providing responsible entertainment for Americans?

According to ad-buy information provided to the Fix, there are 13 -- yes, 13 -- groups paying for ads in the race's final days, with Democratic groups outspending Republican-aligned by more than $1 million. Coakley's ad advantage comes from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which is set to spend $1.4 million on ads in the final week of the race -- a staggering sum given the overwhelming Democratic tilt of the Bay State, and yet another sign of how worried the party is. (The National Republican Senatorial Committee is not running ads in the state.)

18 I don't care how the spin it. A Brown victory is a referendum on the reign of Zero, and his undoing. And they know it.
Yep.... only question is how does he react. Does he move to the middle like the Clintons did..... or double down on his ideology and become even more entrenched.
Im betting on doubling down.

RUSH: I'm gonna respond to this absolute BS that I said don't donate. But, you know, I do not make this program about me. I try very hard not to make this program about me. So if I have time to deal with that, I will. I'm confident everybody in this audience knows what I said and what I didn't say. Even the Washington Post says without the context, "What Limbaugh said is horrible."
All I said was, if you paid your income taxes, that's how you donate to government for aid, and sure enough, here comes Obama announcing $100 million from the government for aid to Haiti, fine and dandy. But, you paid for it, it's your taxes.
All I said was if you're going to donate do it outside the government, pure and simple. I was attacked, folks, because I am the leading voice of mainstream conservative views, not for any other reason. And this outrage is totally feigned, just as Tony Blankley said, all this outrage at me is totally faked up. They know exactly what I said, and they know for a fact that I would never tell people not to donate to any charitable cause like this, so it is what it is...
So the things that end poverty are cultural, and they start bottom-up, and they're done by citizens and real people who can't take it anymore. Throwing money at it accomplishes nothing! It's been demonstrated all across the world, but most near to us it's been demonstrated in Haiti.
I mention all this as a rebuttal to all of the feigned outrage at me, the lying note that I urged people not to give to charity for Haiti. Nobody in their right mind would ever believe that about me or anybody else, for that matter. However, I did say find some way to do it other than giving it to Obama, 'cause I know he's going to eliminate the charitable deduction. He wants to wipe out individual charitable giving. He wants the government to be the go-to person for all charities. That's the only reason you wipe out the deduction for charitable contributions.

okay, so WRKO (a.k.a. 'hate radio') is our big AM talk radio station up here. All of the personalities are Conservative.
But some of the shows don't get involved in politics. This weekend, Pat Whitley, the restaurant critic, instead of talking about Restaurants talked about Scott Brown!
And, the plastic surgeon who has a show on Saturday afternoon spent his show talking about health care and Scott Brown!.
Coakley has raised a lot more money and ran a lot more tv ads than Scott. But what the people on RKO are doing kinda makes up for it because the radio station has become like one long Scott Brown commercial.

Friend,
ItÂ’s the final push! We are now officially under 40 hours until the polls close, so I am going to cut right to the chase: Scott Brown will be having a huge rally in his hometown of Wrentham TONIGHT. The rally is at LucianoÂ’s at Lake Pearl. The address is 299 Creek Street, Wrentham. The doors will open at 5 PM.
Please come out and see Scott Brown tonight as we send one final message to the Machine and the Washington establishment that this is the People's Seat.

It's good to see MA people on this site, and in this thread. Even having lived there, I am vulnerable to viewing MA the state version of San Francisco. That's insulting, and it's not true; Cambridge and Brookline, and Newton are sort of SF, but the rest of the state isn't. Just listen to WRKO (iTunes Radio Menu, or via their web site), and you'll know.
Re WRKO, Howie Carr is great. I remember him teaching at BU, at the School of Public Communication back in the early 1980's. Just a nice, down-to-earth guy.
Can anyone recommend another radio station, a non-Boston station, to monitor MA? Is there some little am outlet in Worcester or Springfield?
How liberal or conservative is Western MA?
As Charles K. said on HH's show last Friday, "Isn't this a great country?!" We ain't Europe, yet, not even close. We aren't sheep, and really, as long as we have the Internet, and a robust talk radio world, we can avoid going down the socialist rat hole.
There is still lots of work to do to de-Obama things, but at least there is hope now. Even if Brown loses, Deathcare and Cap & Trade are still DEAD. The next few weeks are going to be delicious. DELICIOUS.

@65
As a long time listener of Rush, I understand what he's saying here. I got it when he said it the first time.
That said, he should have let this one go without politicizing it. I'm sure his listening audience is well aware that tax dollars were going to Haiti. I'm equally as certain that if they wanted to contribute more they would pick a charity outside of the government hotline. In fact, he should have just given a list of charities that have a good record of getting the aid to the cause without excessive administrative costs.
I'd agree that the outrage may be feigned by the media, however, folks who hear the abridged, out of context version will react with disgust.

before I go, I really can't understand why these ignorant dems keep insulting Tea Party folks... there are many democrats, centerist conservative democrats, who I meet at Tea Party Events.
I see them with signs "American before Democrat" or "Registered as a Democrat, Voted as an American"
I really don't think they a clue that when they insult Tea Party events, which is a combination of so many events, there is wide range of political affiliations.
I am no longer a registered democrat, but my friends who still are, the more they are insulted, they will be driving these independent minded lifelong democrats out of the party and convert them into registered Independents.
I do not get it, I really don't. When I am called by the DNC still, they say "we need you donations to fight back agn those teabaggers", and I say hell yea, I am one of them.
Seriously, I do not get it one bit.

Professor Is a Label That Leans to the Left
When you get a couple of sociologists to “embrace the horror” of stereotypes, you’re half way there.
Allow me to suggest an alternative … conservatives by nature embrace the market place, while liberals don’t. Liberals seek out the “tenure protected” confines of the academic environment, while conservative seek out the “big bucks” of the market place.
Simply, those who canÂ’t Â… teach profess.

Since I work in state-level emergency management, i think I can answer this one...
Essentially, it's any kind of event (bombing, bioterrorist attack, earthquake, Godzilla attack etc.) that causes a lot of dead and wounded. It's basically a catch-all term used for emergency planning purposes. Federal, State, and local agency plan for "all-hazards" response rather than have disaster-specific plans (e.g. an earthquake response plan, and car bomb response plan, etc.). It's bureaucratic horse crap, but from a technical standpoint and as a piece of jargon, it works. Throwing it around in news stories or in press releases is more just idiocy than anything else.

Thanks Hoss -
I figured as much. It just seems that these words, like 'hard pivot', enter the vernacular at targeted times. Usually fed from an entitiy that would rather banty definitive terms than offensive facts.
It seems like neutral (at best, more than likely) negative information. A place-holder, to speak, for news that might be less than palatable to the broadcasters/disseminators.
It makes for a perfect spot on the timeline that can be identified, but not defined. In the future, they can respond to inquiries by pointing to the statement, and saying, see - we were on it.

After 40 years of a socialist national government, how is it possible that Haiti is still a basket case?
Well, before that predatory voodoo dictatorships looted whatever little was in the national treasury. The people have been oppressed, uneducated and starving since the days of Toussaint L'Ouverture. It wasn't so great in the slave days under the French before him. This is not a heritage that produces good results. They burnt off the tree cover for fuel, then the tropical rains washed away the topsoil and leeched out the nutrients so it's hard to raise crops. No natural resources. I hate to be an eeyore about this but a lot of bright, serious, dedicated people and organizations have worked on the problem for years and poured endless money into it to no avail. I doubt that even a socialist government could make things worse. Of course good ideas are always welcome, but tell me what hasn't already been tried. Somehow humanity survives in spite of it all, but it's a short, brutal existence. I was there when Papa Doc was elected and many times in past years. What's your solution?

Probably not, but it was true in the South. Turnout in the South before early voting was completely different than today. Black voting would be reduced about 10-15% if it rained on election day, just FACTS. Now with early voting, all Black votes are done BEFORE the election with a systematic plan. Some precincts vote over 90%!
Since MA doesn't have early voting, I suspect you will see a reduction in turn out with unmotivated voters. Down here they paid $10 a vote, that works. $10 in Boston won't get a lot of folks out in the snow.
It's not right, but remember the Blacks in Philly screaming about Obama not giving out "walk around money"?
Walk around money is cash for a vote, usually given to a Black preacher, who "helps out".
Too much knowledge?

Are you sure you're not thinking of absentee voting? If they have early voting and the party didn't drag all the black votes to the polls, then the party is simply arrogant and thought there was no need to.
Another dumb mistake.

A Rutgers University graduate student from China, Haisong Jiang, 28, was charged last week with trespassing in the Jan. 3 breach at the Newark airport. Flights were grounded for hours and passengers were re-screened while air safety officials searched for a man who had walked through the exit of a security checkpoint. Jiang's arraignment is set for Jan. 28 in Newark. A friend, Ning Huang, said he's known Jiang for years and Jiang is "a very good person" who didn't realize the ramifications of his actions.
If ANYONE understands repercussions for deliberately trespassing through a door marked RESTRICTED, it is a bilingual 28 year old Ivy League grad student from China, the repressive government that has no problem executing people for disobedience or corruption. He reads English fluently, and this wasn't his first flight into the USA.
But, he's SO SPECIAL, just kiss Haisong Jiang's ass and assume the position. Laws never apply against foreigners in the USA, whether here legally or not. In Obamaland, laws (legitimate or unconstitutional) only apply against conservative American citizens.
