Gird your loins:

Democrats to stuff 20 bills into post-election lame-duck session

Democrats are considering cramming as many as 20 pieces of legislation into the lame-duck session they plan to hold after the Nov. 2 election.

The array of bills competing for floor time shows the sense of urgency among Democratic lawmakers to act before the start of the 112th Congress, when Republicans are expected to control more seats in the Senate and House.

[ . . . ]

Democrats have promised they will not allow tax rates to rise for families making less than $250,000 a year.

Democratic leaders have also prioritized the defense authorization bill, which includes a repeal of the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that bans gays from serving openly in the military.

Democrats and gay-rights activists fear repeal could prove impossible if Republicans control the House or additional Senate seats.

Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.), the chamberÂ’s second-ranking Democrat, has promised to push for a vote on the DREAM Act, which would give the children of illegal immigrants a chance to earn legal residence.

[ . . . ]

Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, is intent on passing a renewable electricity standard.

It's gonna be a disaster.

34 HellOOOOOOh

VDH  speaks truth to power:

"The President does not conduct himself in a sober and judicious manner and neither do those around him. On any given day he can slur Arizonans as wanting to round up innocents on the way to ice cream. He can slander police as stupidly-acting stereotypers. The Attorney General can call us cowards and swear without reading a bill that it profiles the innocent. Legitimate worry over a ground zero mosque translates into anti-constitutional efforts to stifle freedom of worship. Those with money—defined by an arbitrary annual income level of $250,000—owe the rest of us their ill-gotten gains. Surgeons transmogrify into tonsil-loppers, insurers are greedy, investors put back at the end of the creditor line, all worthy of a boot on their necks and a kick in the ass.

The First Lady can likewise say anything at anytime that would earn about a 10% approval rating. “Deign to run”, “raise the bar”, “never been proud before”, “downright mean country” and all that have gone somnolent only because of a fleeting January 2009 70% approval rating. When polls hits 40% , expect the 2008 tropes to return. The result won’t be pretty. Bush was stoic and philosophical at 38% after six years; the aggrieved Obamas will not be after two."

They are really really confident that they will sin their seats back and keep the majority.  Been reading a lot, they really aren't even being shown the polls about BO care and such.

Everyone you talk with on the Walmart line is really really disappointed.

I think the dem idea is to say have patience with the economy, tolerate the employment situation (which is poised to go higher), demonize the republicans (too many articles say that the republicans are going to "take away your liberties" and I don't know why we aren't hearing a push back on this from the republicans).  Everything Glenn Beck has pointed out as "the dems" they are putting onto the republicans and demonizing them.

46  WASHINGTON (AP) - Admonishing his own party, President Barack Obama says it would be "inexcusable" and "irresponsible" for unenthusiastic Democratic voters to sit out the midterm elections, warning that the consequences could be a squandered agenda for years.

"People need to shake off this lethargy. People need to buck up," Obama told Rolling Stone in an interview to be published Friday. The president told Democrats that making change happen is hard and "if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren't serious in the first place."

In other words, Barry is saying, blindly support me like you did in 2008. Wow just wow. His arrogance is overwhelming.

53 I don't normally read this site but Insty linked to it and, well, it's some scary shiat:

Leahy Pushes Internet Censorship Bill

Sen. Patrick Leahy has introduced a bill affecting the Internet that could have a “dangerous impact on freedom of speech,” according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) introduced by the Vermont Democrat, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, requires Internet Service Providers, Domain Name System providers, and others to block Internet users from reaching certain websites.

The legislation, which seeks to curb online piracy and the sale of counterfeit goods, would create two “blacklists.” The first is a list of all websites hit with a censorship court order from the Attorney General. The second is a list of domain names that the Department of Justice determines are “dedicated to infringing activities” that violate copyright laws.

Greg @ 30.  One problem with the story at your link.

Ryan's district is not really a "safe" one. That is Les Aspin's old seat and has been Demo. since the Garden of Eden. It includes Janesville, Racine and Kenosha, all big union towns. Chrysler just closed the engine plant in Kenosha which was the last of the  huge AMC - Chrysler presence there. Harley closed the Buell plant in East Troy a couple years ago. Janesville has lost the GM truck plant and Parker Pen recently. That's a lot of jobs gone. Ryan is personnally very popular but if he moves on, this will be a very competitive district.

This article has been in the sidebar for a few days.  Basically, it shows the racial breakdown of U.S. cities.

I'm not speaking for the moron nation, but a lot of people think this is indicitive of racial profiling, racial discrimination, racism, etc.  These people think that as racism in the country diminishes, you should see a direct correlation in the racial integration in neighborhoods.

I don't think this is the case.  A guy named Schelling came up with model that demonstrates that even weak racial preferences could lead to very segregated neighborhoods.

Basically, it states that even if everyone was willing to live with other races, even as a minority, the small racial preferences would still lead to segregation.

Meaning that if you had no problem living in a neighborhood where the majority of your neighbors were different from you (say 60%), the fact that you would have a problem if 80% were different leads to almost total segregation.

It is a very counter-intuitive thing.  You would think that as people become less racist and more accepting of racial diversity, you would see a correlating integration of neighborhoods.  But according to the model, you won't.

Only when people have almost no, or no racial preferences do these self segregations cease.

A handy model is available at the link below.
