I'd have thought this was a no-brainer on his part:

McCain stumps for Ayotte, says he won't run again

In a campaign stop for U.S. Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte in her hometown Saturday, former presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. John McCain announced he's done running for President.

"My friends, this may surprise you, but I will not be running for President again," the Arizona Senator said.

Thanks for the heads up, Johnny.

Okay, it's not exactly hard, but it's funny. Put down your coffee before reading what she wrote:

Ron Johnson, who entered politics through a Tea Party meeting and is now the Republican nominee for Senate in Wisconsin, asserted that the $20 billion escrow fund that the Obama administration forced BP to set up to pay damages from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill circumvented “the rule of law,” Hayek’s term for the unwritten code that prohibits the government from interfering with the pursuit of “personal ends and desires.”

Gallup poll:

The good news for President Obama is his popular support among blacks is holding steady at 91%.

The bad news is no other group of potential voters likes him that much.

In fact, 29 days before his first midterm elections, the Democrat's approval ratings remain mired below 50%.

Democrats (79%) and liberals (75%) still like Obama a lot.

But after that, his approval percentage goes to the deep south. Support among even young people is down: 57%. Hispanics: 55%. Moderates: 54%. Unmarrieds: 53%. Easterners: 52%. Women: 47%. Midwesterners and Westerners: 45%.

Men: 43%. Southerners: 41%. Independents: 40%. Marrieds: 39%. Seniors: 38%. Whites: 36%. Conservatives: 23%.

Amazingly, among Republicans Obama still manages to hold the support of 12%.

33 Scientists have recently discovered a new planet that has roughly the same atmosphere and temperature as Earth! This new planet is also an astonishingly close 10 lightyears away. Astronomers chanced upon this discovery in the tixar nebula, which is in the constilation Orions Belt. They theorize that this planet could possibly hold Earthlike carbon based life and are quickly working to study the planet. They also theorize that if on this new planet there is someone named Obama he would suck a lot of cock.

Except social libs do pick your pocket and break your legs. It's all the same thing. I'm assuming you mean you like gay marriage and abortion. See if you still like them if the govt is paying for the abortions, the culture that goes with it which produces babies without fathers, federally funded planned parenthood. Think about whether you like the idea of gay service members and providing their partners housing/medical/pensions. All of the left's "social" stands have redistribution of wealth behind them. That's the point. The marxists/communists/socialists introduce the cultural decay in order to facilitate taking your money, but you go ahead and believe there's a difference. BTW, I said the same thing in my 20s.

40 Warthog @ 2, yeah. I don't get the whole "moderate march" thing. It seems counterintuitive, to say the least. If there are any ex D&D geeks, was there ever a "chaotic neutral" designation? Something I've noticed in the last week or so here in CT, is that the press is going full bore to dicredit any candidate with an (R) after their name. This includes mischaracterizing statements, blowing up minor gaffes beyond any sane proportion and flat out making shit up. For example, last week, Linda McMahon accepted an endorsement from a business group. In the following press Q&A, she said that businesses should have a say in any increase in the minimum wage. Furthermore, she said she felt that economic cicumstances should be considered when any discussion of increases is raised. The headline read, "McMahon: Congress Should Consider Lowering Minimum Wage." From the comments following the article it was obvious that most simply read the headline. I hate these fuckers.

This is why I dislike all these various "xx-con" labels. One of the writers at Beitbart said it best I think; "we should just say believers in small government vs believers in big government".

I have found on here at least, most of the people who profess to be "social cons" are also believers in small government but that is not always the case. I also believe that what most "social cons" see as issues are really "religious issues".

There are a lot of people out there like corn-pone Huck who the press classifies as "conservative" while he is anything but. He is a tax and spend liberal to the core who has "religious beliefs".

I'd love it if the "social safety net" were simplified to the point where I didn't have to worry that our "safety net" was in fact a viable, antisocial lifestyle for many people. That would be nice.

"Social libs" are not costing the money, its the big government liberals who believe in all those socialist welfare schemes who are costing you money.

I like to apply the 100 year rule to a lot of these things (or maybe the 150 year rule). What would they have done 150 years ago. There were no "anti-drug" laws and there were no socialist welfare laws. If someone abandoned their life for the "opium parlors" of the day they were left to die of their own fatal actions.

I'm a social-lib/fiscal-con - supposedly this doesn't exist. but hell, if it doesn't break my legs or pick my pocket, I'm good, as they say.

Under that argument, we should have only one religion that the state recognizes so that the others have to pay income taxes. The problem is not gay partners or abortion, the problem is social benefits or the idea that someone can demand that the government pay. Hell, why is the military paying for the benefits of heterosexual partners? (Answer- job benefit, just like any other job offers when it needs workers badly enough)

Accepting homosexuality or abortion (which I consider to be an evil but one that cannot be legislated away) is NOT the same as accepting Marxism. Remember when the acceptance of inter-racial marriages was supposed to lead to societal decay?

93 I married a good German girl. When we were first married, she was definitely of the big government, nanny state persuasion. She became a naturalized citizen and has since become a small government conservative. She occasionally  shows signs of her background, but catches herself and is shocked at how far right she has grown.

When we moved back to the US, her father's biggest concern was the lack of socialized medicine here. Some years later, my wife was hospitalized by a rare, life-threatening virus infection. My in-laws came and were shocked to find that the care she received was far superior to anything they could have expected at home.

Absolutely true. However, the big govt libs know and have always known that breaking down the family makes people dependent on the state. I'd like to see the 150 year rule but the normal construct of civilization has been so twisted at this point that even the most stalwart would balk at the level of starvation and death that would ensue. The "great society" effectively destroyed the african american urban family and provided the big govt libs with generations of liberal votes to keep the money coming in. Imagine the stupidification if suddendly the fatherless child didn't receive support? Is there anyway to turn back the clock and make the idea of not having children that one cannot support even shameful or untenable? I don't think it has anything to do with religion per se. Do you have to be very relgious to see irresponsible sex and abortion as, at the very least, destructive not only to yourself but to society at large?

99 What is a "new age family wedding"?

Civil marriage with no attendees, then on the beach with all the wedding guests, a friend stands up and delivers a "blessing" calling the groom "the worker" and the bride (a nurse) the "earth goddess". All the guests, gathered in a circle around them were invited to touch the rings to impart "good energy" into them. Kurt Vonnegut came up, I don't remember how. Oh, and the bride was pregnant and had fitted her dress to show it off. BTW, the groom's parents had paid for the beach house, the reception, flowers, booze, et al. Everyone asked to raise their arms and impart good energy to the couple. There was a brief speech from a wiccan.

Divorce 5 years and 2 kids later.

106 I'd like to see the 150 year rule but the normal construct of civilization has been so twisted at this point that even the most stalwart would balk at the level of starvation and death that would ensue.

People may "balk" at it but it is coming whether they like it or not. We have finally ran out of "other people's money". The laws of economics are much like the laws of physics, you can only ignore them for so long. Eventually they do catch up.

All of these social welfare schemes are going to collapse soon one way or another. The key will be how we allow it to collapse. Under the typical liberal scheme of ever increasing tax and spend it will all come to a sudden halt at once.

Think how that would effect their core base in the slums of the inner cities. When those checks stop coming to support the dozen illegitament children of the average slum queen what is she and her drug addled live-in going to do?

What they normally do at the drop of a hat is have a big party that involves fire and breaking windows. When all the grocery stores are looted clean they will then head for the suburbs. Yes, mass starvation and killoff in the first year.

If you live in a suburb of a large city with a population over 100,000 I advise you to move at least 20 miles from said city.

"My friends, this may surprise you, but I will not be running for President again," the Arizona Senator said.

What would surprise me more is if any of the people there were actually McCain's friends.  Outside of Democrats and the main stream media, assuming of course he's not running for office against a favored democrat.

But if he's just pushing some uber-liberal bill or useful to point to as the Republican who of course disagree's with his party, then McCain is aces in their book.  McCain isn't a "Maverick", if anything he's probably much closer to a "Mole".

Naturally they know two faced Johnny will most likely go right back to his tried and true behaviour of carrying democratic water and kissing MSM asses just as soon as the election is over.

Until then, stand back baby!  It's coyote choking illegal immigrant hawk until then.  Hard to believe that had enough complete and total idiots involved in the Republican primary in Arizona to fall for it, yet again.  It's like watching Charlie Brown trying to kick that damn football.

But on the upside if Arizona is finally annexed by Mexico or completely overwhelmed with illegals to the point where the drug lords pretty much run the state anyway I won't have to feel bad.  The idiots did it to themselves, after all, by putting McCain back in the Senate.

I don't know what the law in NJ or NY is but under the federal statute it can not be classified as a "hate crime". And even if the NJ or NY law allowed that the current ruling by the SC would strike the conviction down.

The current court ruling AND the federal law require some type of violent act as part of the underlying crime. The people who wired the kid's dorm room invaded his privacy but did not commit a violent act.

So all these cries for "hate crime" prosecution are either the mouthings of the uneducated or the blather of idiots just seeking attention.

With the elections of Allen West, the guy from SC whose name slips my mind, and the TX reverend whom I hope wins, more blacks are going to be exposed to the conservative message.  The Richmond Times-Dispatch had a front-page story about the upcoming Viginia Tea Party Convention that included profiles of Tea Party members.  One was an older black man who was brutally honest about the stupidity of blacks voting for liberals and being those most harmed by liberal policies.

As for the state convention itself, this weekend, slated speakers include Herman Cain and E.W. Jackson (dynamite - he spoke at our local patriot mtg a couple weeks ago).

135 Honestly watching the online behavior of my young cousins -- college and high-school-aged -- they simply think nothing of posting very personal, ill-advised things on Twitter and Facebook. Hell, people my age do it too. But the culture among young people doesn't include a true concept of "privacy." The young man was likely more upset by the FB postings - maybe seen by people he didn't want to see them, maybe just putting his whole life out there - than the taping. It was the online posting that made him feel like the whole world was against him. When I think back to the EXTREME drama that we went thru in our freshman and sophomore years at school, and try to imagine all that garbage WITH something like Facebook - I can't imagine it. we would have had some suicides, probably. The drama was heady enough, something like the social media stuff would just amplify all that.

141 Reporting from Sacramento —

More than $69 million in California welfare money, meant to help the needy
pay their rent and clothe their children, has been spent or withdrawn outside
the state in recent years, including millions in Las Vegas, hundreds of
thousands in Hawaii and thousands on cruise ships sailing from Miami.

State-issued aid cards have been used at hotels, shops, restaurants, ATMs and
other places in 49 other states, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam, according to
data obtained by The Times from the California Department of Social Services.
Las Vegas drew $11.8 million of the cash benefits, far more than any other
destination.

It isn't just about Wilders.  It is everywhere.  That is why confronting Islam is so difficult.  If one tries to describe what it is about Islam that must be resisted it comes off as hate speech.  People say that only the radicals hold to that "interpretation" of Islam when in reality, Islam isn't being interpreted at all.  The aspect of hatred are codified.

Here's the proof, imo.  One can read it themselves, but that not withstanding, if one listens to virtually any Muslim preacher, they are invaribly assaulted with hatred for non-Muslims.  Why?  Because it is in the book!  But if one points that out, they are guilty of hate speech.  There is no escaping it.

The revelation that he was broadcasting homemade pron is an interesting wrinkle, to say the least.

As you rightly point out, the parents still deserve our sympathy, but it makes one wonder why he killed himself.

We don't know anything about his partner, so perhaps when he found out about the broadcast he became upset and that, in turn, led to the suicide.

I still think this is a criminal act by the two students and they should be severely punished, but I'm not sure if the parents will have as good a case in civil court now.

No, read my posts more carefully. His roommates should be punished, and it is a fucked up tragedy. But if the tables were turned and this kid quoted scripture on his facebook page about the evils of homosexuality and by his own doing he posted vids of himself and partners engaged in gay sex acts, the Advocate would have a field day with this, and even if the kid committed suicide, he would not be considered  a victim by any stretch.

209 225 So all of a sudden, because this kid may have frequented gay sex web sites, he's a bum? "Fuck him then?"

I think the point is that the student was actually uploading pornographic material of himself and sharing it on some site(s), not that he was into gay pron.  That behavior argues against the idea being promoted in the MSM and by some advocacy groups that it was the act of exposing his homosexuality - or his homosexual acts - that drove him to suicide.

I think it is always a tragedy when someone commits suicide.  I understand how some people feel anger towards people who do it, but I don't feel that.  I simply am saddened by the unnecessary loss of life.

214 I'm kinda bothered by the reaction to this Tyler thing in that he was 18 and people are carrying on like he was 5.  He was an adult, and he had lots of options for handling the situation besides jumping off a bridge.  Did he seek help from of the relevent Rutgers departments (LBGTQQVFA center, counseling center, residence hall supervisors, dean of students, campus police, IT department, etc)? Presumably an entire day of his life was spent at freshman orientation being informed about all of these non-teaching departments and how they could serve him, but he went straight to "Hey, if I kill myself, people will feel bad!"  Which is really, really fucking stupid.

Go ahead, tell me I'm a horrible person, but I was bullied consistantly from grade 3 through 12 and actually got as far as making a plan and writing notes when I was 15, before realizing how fucking stupid it would be to kill myself to spite people who didn't give a shit about me.

I'm old school when it comes to suicide, in that I blame the individual who committed the act.  Trying to make sense of suicide or lay blame is fruitless because suicide is, existential musings notwithstanding, an irrational act.   Like the Denver Broncos receiver who apparetly couldn't tolerate being on IR and doing rehab on his leg.  It's not the events, which thousands of people have survived, but the reaction to events.  Improper recording of sex acts does not ineluctably lead to suicide.

I think there's a lesson here for cartoon, book, or Quran jihads.

I think that anyone who kills them self by definition lacks the coping mechanisms that healthy people have (save, I suppose, for acts of martyrdom on the battlefield or people who jump from burning buildings or that sort of thing).  Whatever the person's age, they for whatever reasons just aren't able to step back and get perspective.  It's a weakness and I guess you could see it as a flaw, but to me it's still tragic.

As an ex-cop, you would not believe how lonely a suicide scene really is. I could stand over a guy who blew off his head off with a shotgun and think what a fucking idiot this guy is. Usually, the grieving family is fucked up, but even they will roll their eyes at this selfish act. Homicide scenes, I have had to rightfully restrain family members. Suicide scenes, not so much.

221 No, his life was worth nothing to the homosexual activists and their sympathizers who dress up anal sex in flowery civil rights language.

Take a walk thru a hospital that has men in their late 30s and 40s, who cannot even hold in their feces anymore.  Not to mention the extremely high suicide rates, aids, and other medical problems.

This deathstyle is no place for kids...but yet Hollywood and DC promotes it as something normal and natural.

So no, it is the liberals who just LOVE kids to DEATH.

I'm the one who took criticism over this issue, but I cannot even abide and agree with your assertion. Gays are gays. They have been with us since the dawn of humankind. And, since there is a penis and a place to put that penis, your assertion that they cannot hold their feces may be correct in some instances, but not all and is extremely callous. Aids was not invented by gay people, just perpetuated by it. Ease up on the side effects of homosexuality. It may not be in your "book", but it's a reality that humans have experienced forever.

228 Sam, I don't know what you mean by "your book", but I do know that anal sex is promoted in children's BOOKS, children's TV shows, childrens movies, and in children's classrooms as normal, natural, hip, cool, trendy, and now, even a hate crime for the Feds.

Of course perversion will always be a part of ADULT humans worldwide.  But that is no reason to pretend it is just find and dandy to partake, and lie to children as if this is a normal and natural "gay lifestyle".  This of course is done to make it sound inocuous.

There was a recent article about the Swiss having alarming growth in teen/adult suicide rates amonst homosexuals, bisexuals......so  now they are starting more programs starting in Kindergarden promoting this perversion as A-OK!

And Canada's homosexuals are demanding NEW medical policies for their special issues. And religious clergy, bloggers, journalists, etc, in Canada now face hate crimes tribunals for speaking of these issues.

So, giving a sex act new civil rights protections opens all kinds of issues for us all.  A new protected class for those who engage in anal sex, really??

Of course there will be pushback from parents, and all kinds of people who disagree.

We did not start this fire....they did.

Hey, I have to ask: you think there's any fucking chance Ace might actually return to POSTING ON HIS OWN DAMN BLOG? I'm really, really getting tired of co-bloggers and stupid ringading Open Threads.  You people are just not interesting enough to justify that.

Sure, but he's vowed not to do so until all of the mental midgets who aren't smart enough to figure out that you don't bold an entire post leave.  Once we get rid of those idiots Ace will be back posting away like mad.

Until then I guess he figures it's just best to wait until they get frustrated enough to leave, because I think the last thing in the world he wants to deal with right now is some arrogant, childish miscreant who can't even understand a simple concept like bolding text for emphasis.

But in the meantime, try the scones.  Their delish.

He probably committed suicide because the mechanisms a person has to deal with this event are very much construed. Back in the old days, like 19th century, such an act could be dealt with in the gentlemanly manner of an honorable duel to the death. Even 50-100 years ago, severe beatdowns would have went uncharged by the criminal court.because of justification.

Not anymore with a touchy feely culture.

Besides, no one that I know of has asked anything be "done" with them, except to tell them no thanks...please keep this to yourself, leave our kids alone.

Umm.. why?  Why accept?  Where is that written?

We are gauranteed the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  Nowhere does it say we have a right to be accepted, or not to be offended, or that everybody has to like us and be happy with our choices.

So if someone has a "alternative lifestyle", well that's their business.  I just wish they'd keep it their business.  I don't talk about my sex life at work, or in public, and I'd just appreciate the same courtesy from others.

In short, I don't have to accept jack.

240 pam,

You spend an awful lot of time thinking about and being offended by the sex acts of others.

If you want to debate gay marriage or gay adoption or teaching gay relationships are ok in schools, fine.  But I simply do not see what the insertion of the particular positions people use in the bedroom has to do with public policy.

My point being: men have penises and the world is full of holes.  It has been my observation that if there's a hole somewhere, there's probably a man who wants to stick his johnson in it.  That's just reality.  I'm not sure how any of your points apply to lesbian couples, but I haven't done the detailed research on this subject that you apparently have.

And you can bet your bippy that if the country returned to legislating positions in the bedroom (old laws on the books notwithstanding), heterosexuals would be lobbying against that move.

244 My husband and I had the privilege of attending the LDS General Conference on Saturday.  (We recently moved to Utah and are eager to learn the culture here as well as possible.  Mr. Y-not's boss invited us to attend a session with his family.)

Anyway, I'm Roman Catholic.  We have a lot in common with Mormons in terms of our code of conduct and morals.  I'm sad to say the RC Church in the U.S.  has not shown much leadership in some of those areas, preferring to focus on the 'social justice' end of the spectrum over difficult issues like abortion and gay marriage.  The LDS Church has been extremely leaderly, imho, and has borne the brunt of abuse for doing so.

But you know what?  Not once during Saturday's lessons or prayers did the LDS Church leaders feel the need to demean gays or promiscuous people or immoral people by going into gory detail about their sex acts or other sins.  They made their points while respecting the dignity of people with whom they strenuously disagree.

This Rutgers student was screwed up.  No doubt about it.  But he was still treated cruelly in the last days of his life and although what he did was not right, I see no reason to use his death as a platform for expressing my disgust with his sex life.  If nothing else, I don't think his parents need to be dealing with that right now.

Just my two cents.

As much as I hate a generalization, it does seem to me that gay men, especially young gay men, are pretty thinned-skinned. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the sheer cruelty of what the roommates did that drove him to kill himself.

We assume it was the outing or the invasion of privacy, but even if none of those things were the crux of the matter, he may have been distraught over just how vicious kids can be to one another.

I can tell you that the community he grew up in is not one for sending kids to the College of Hard Knocks. We've had anti-bullying rules strictly enforced around here for ages.

I guess it's a little late to tell him to Rub some dirt on it, Nancy!

247 Here we go...the last refuge of the homosexual lobby, when someone pushes back, or has an opposite point of view...then we are "obsessed" with their "private sex lives".  Hilarious!

Again...it is THAT lobby the "National Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trangender", who PUBLISHES information about their penies, holes, bedroom positions, johnsons, in DETAILED RESEARCH, for the purposes of PUBLIC POLICY.

This is a group of people who choose to join, pool their VAST wealth, (they are not oppressed) to advertise to us and our children.  They also are invited (mandatory) to speak at public schools and Universities....to promote the dangerous falsehood that anal sex is normal and natural.

Again...we did not start the conversation, they did.

I'm going to give Pam a couple of points for actually taking a true social conservative viewpoint. I'm not saying I agree, but maybe I will later. Social conservatives would be saying that the real "hate criminal" is whatever person or persons seduced this boy into his grim "lifestyle" in the first place, not those who mocked him [in an illegal fashion I guess, until we all get a chance to check out his broadcasts]. We're presuming--and like to presume in all cases now--that all such subjects came to a realization of their sexuality, found themselves, and a lot of other blah blah that's pretty assailable.

A strong social conservative argument would be that even now, most converts to the other team are coerced into it, if not by force then by drugs, access to forbidden venues, an untrustworthy adult accomplice, or a dare, followed by blackmail. My own argument is that 90% of self-reporting "gays" (offensive misnomer) are surface-level rebels, anxious to associate with a ready made circle of friends or thumb their noses at their background. Fifty years ago they'd have grown a mustache. And that's why so many can't keep it in the bedroom or bar, but have to engage in unrelenting social crusades for more "rights."

I'll go Pam one better: corpus dilecti. There is no body. He may have eloped. Tell you one thing, if that "older guy" was faculty, he just had a real interesting weekend I would not have cared to share, and the two frosh perps will walk.

Posted by: zooey at October 04, 2010 10:43 AM (hrwMe)

249 Zooey, the first and only story I read about this suicide victim indicated that the perps that taped him and made it public were breaking some local? laws, so I never doubted that they should be prosecuted.  Of course, to what extent is up to their representation and the authorities of that state.

I have no brief whatsoever for them...if their attorney thinks that the boy who committed suicide's not so private life is a mitigating factor then so be it, but not sure how his lifestyle would mitigate the fact that they taped him.  So who knows, if this goes to a jury in a criminal case or a civil case it may matter.

Of course the MSM coverage is typical, I never expect them to report in any context about their protected groups.

But yes, my concern is the dangerous lifestyle of homosexuals is promoted as normal and natural to younger and younger children. (a 13 year old who thought he was "gay" recently committed suicide too)

Not to mention the new laws coming down the pike giving them special and protected status.

It is a sight to behold, a truly upside down and false narrative being woven for decades on this subject, a propaganda coup to be sure.
