In this country using the N-word is enough to get you virtually excommunicated from normal society. But using the N-word does not even come close to what Glenn Beck said recently about slavery. Glenn Beck said that slavery started with innocent ideas and it was the government regulation that made it bad.

Maybe I'm the only one who is paying attention but it sounds to me that Glenn Beck is at least justifying, if not advocating a return to slavery. But this time they will do it right and we'll have slavery that isn't in any way regulated by the government. He actually said that?

When it comes to racism calling someone the N-word is nothing compared to suggesting that slavery started with innocent ideas, and then attempt to completely dismiss the history of what happened to blacks in America with a false story that he just made up. What Beck did was like 1,000 times worse. But what really blows my mind is that the news media hasn't called him on it. It is absolutely irresponsible to allow a statement like that to stand unchallenged.

28 I wonder if that was the segment that Beck discussed the fact that slavery really began in america with the indentured servant program. He discussed it at length and how the indentured servant contracted to be in a state of servitude until a certain amount of time had passed. He then continued to a specific incident of a black farmer who had a black indentured servant try to leave before his indenture was over and the courts decide with the farmer, the servant because of his continued leaving was then told by the court that he couldn't leave, essentially beginning the concept of slavery as opposed to indenture. So what he meant by it starting as an innocent idea was that the concept of indenture as a work contract that went badly wrong. He was suggesting that valid ideas could be taken by the courts to something that enslaved us and used slavery as a literal example.

It's a shame that libs are such tools and can't listen past a sound bite. Assholes.

Ed Anger #28  It might surprise some people to know that slavery predated the United States and that not all slaves were negros but came in all colors and, in fact still do because slavery still exists.

No, i know of no polls where Toomey is losing to Sestak.  Even better, Corbett is up by around 10 in every poll over Onorato.

I did see a poll where Meehan is leading by three. If I am not mistaken it was supposed to be a close race in PA-7

Sadly I have never toured DC. I probably should do that soon while I am still able. 

The last time I was in SF was 1985 taking my wife around showing her the sights of my wastrel young days. e took a trolley down to the wharf and then walked back. Wifey got tired and a little ill because I was walking her to death but that is the only way to really see a city.

Tried to get her to walk up the road to the lookout point at the top of Knob Hill but she refused to budge. We avoided Haight-Ashbury because even then that area was a bum heaven and odoriferous.

Was listening to Boortz on the way in and he was making the same mistake every other talking head is making.  This election is not about "jobs", whatever the fuck that means, or about taxes or economic issues at all.  That's what normal elections are about.  This is about liberty.  Nobody in the chattering classes, left or right, seems to get it.

I would like to think so, but I think its fair to say that for a large percentage of the population it is about jobs and the economy.

You have to remember there is a large percentage of Americans who don't follow politics at all, and only vote based on their personal financial situation at any given time. So if they don't have a job or are working less, they vote with the party who is out of power.

There are some people who just don't care about politics until they are feeling some pain in their lives.

Are there some Dems and most Republicans who will vote and turn out big time in november over liberty and spending, of course, but it will only be a massive wave if we turn out the people who are normally apathetic to politics show up and vote for the Republican candidates.

And I believe leftys write all twisted around like that so that they don't smear the graphite from their pencils all over the page and the side of their hand.

Because, as was pointed out, schoolteachers insist that everyone have their paper oriented the same way as they write, and contort their bodies accordingly, instead of simply twisting the paper around to meet their needs.

I'm a righty, and I still twist the paper to where I'm almost writing perpendicular to my body.  (nobody tell my old first-grade teacher...shhhh...)

Hell, D.C. is a better tourist town than SF imo

I went the weekend of Feb 7 to take a friend of mine to the Pens Caps hockey game.

Terrible luck,  the day i got there it snowed about 2+ feet of snow. I was able to walk around as he lived near all the embassies and I also got to see the Naval Observatory as he essentially lived next to it. 

Certain areas are nice. I would have liked to have seen it in better weather and seen the historical sites.

It does seem like a fairly nice city, but again I think there are certain areas where tourists can't really go.

I've never seen the show. But the Georgetown and embassy area was nice, then again most of the homes were probably in the 500K to 1 million+ range.

The area around the Verizon Center seemed nice too.

You should.  Definitely do it in the Spring when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.  I think this year's parade will be April 9th.  I think the festival runs between mid or late March and early April.

I was fortunate to grow up in Maryland within easy access of D.C.  My dad would take us into work with with him (he worked in DC Superior Court as a probation officer) and then mom, sister, and I would walk around all day, doing the museums and monuments and take the bus home.  Simply wonderful.  Living there spoiled me for all other (US) cities in terms of museums.   So if you have young kids (or grand kids) take them there.  

As an adult personally I enjoyed Georgetown a lot.  Good restaurants and bars.  Also, Embassy Row/Dupont Circle if you like food adventures.  

And the Metro is terrific. 

The surrounding areas are lovely as well.  A day trip to Annapolis is a must.

I bow to your eloquence.  For an intellectual, he doesn't seem to have a writing habit.  After all of my engineering classes, my writing improved slightly, but all my numbers are tight as hell.
