IMO, they're likely to make some headway with this strategy. Of all the times the Republicans could have used a national theme to go after local candidates, this was it. They could have come up at least ten exceptionally strong issues to attack the dems on and leveraged their ad money to attack them in every single race and gutted the dems. Hell, one message alone "This isn't a socialist country." would have been enough.
We need some smarter, strategic thinkers on the right, imo.

In a speech to supporters in Las Vegas on Sunday night, Reid said that when Obama replaced George W. Bush in the White House he found himself in a "hole so deep that he couldn't see the outside world.

Comparing Obama to the Chilean miner plight, it wasn't Obama's fault that the mine collapsed, and a miracle with American US technology saved the day in the end.

Being in a relatively safe Repub district (although Krystal Ball ran a campaign ad during the Yank-ee game--heh), I'm not sure what the comm strategy based on commercials. But negative campaigning is very effective in depressing opposition turnout, especially if it's consistent, relatively low-key, and focuses on inherent character flaws in the enemy. It puts some fear into the opposition campaign, and projecting power is essential to seizing the electorate's imagination.

Again, the debate about the Fair Tax is separate from the fact that Democrats are lying about the proposed use of the Fair Tax. It's a replacement tax. My understanding is that the VAT would be (and is as currently used in some states) an additional tax. But then, actually, both could potentially be additional taxes - and that's what the democrats really want everyone to believe.

Back from early voting, and the early voting numbers for my polling station were impressive. Numerous men with military paraphernalia to include unit lapel buttons, boonie caps, fatigue shirt with civy slacks (?), and one brave soul with the old fashioned web belt with canteen and first aid pack.
The only support at the station was for West. Four souls with signs in the designated area for soliciting, and they were vocal. The voting sequence has been dramatically altered, and a supervisor told me the measures were instituted to thwart election fraud. This will not prevent people from double voting in say Florida/New York, and it has been discovered on many occasions. With property in both states, it's easy to maintain voting status in both states, and it's done with impunity.
If someone brilliant like Al Gore can invent the Internet, maybe with his cutting edge insight he can invent a software package that would collate all voting schedules and expose the frauds. Liberal frauds who vote two or more times.

We didn't get ours until Friday. We do the absentee thing because we live 50 miles from any real town, and five miles down a dirt road, the last 1-1/4 mile of which is not maintained by the county, and winter makes for some *ahem* challenging commutes. The Boonies? No, but we can see people walking around The Boonies with our telescope.

He started gracing us with his learned opinions about the time that the show jumped the shark anyway, so I haven't been watching it for a couple of seasons.

If you really wanted to be offended by bad methodology, try being a biologist watching that show. Anything involving a living thing is a total cock up.
I like the idea of the show because I think it did get kids interested in "science," but I never liked the way they blew off an explanation of the statistics required to come to conclusions.

I've got a Mythbusters episode. If you built a road around the Earth at the equator, then put a car on it (a really fast car) and drove in the opposite direction from the planet's rotation at a speed equal to the revolution of the planet (essentially ofsetting the Earth's motion), would the car be heavier than if it were at rest? I say yes.
This may be beyond Mythbuster's budgetary constraints.

It'd be interesting to see what their viewership looked like around this timeframe.
Eventually, entertainers that rely on non-polticial shows for their celebrity will learn that they need to stay non-polticial unless they are willing to lose about 50% of the viewership that justifies their paychecks. While I am slightly biased to learn of conservative celebrities, the same really should apply to both. I assume there are just as many liberals that hate John Voight as there are conservatives that hate Matt Damon.
All told, however, there will always be two moments in Mythbustersology that I will forever cherish. First was a paintball showdown between Jaimie and Adam. Basically, the two of them stand at 20 paces and take turns firing paintball guns at each other until someone surrenders. In this vignette, you learn two very important things: Jaimie is a ruthless bastard, and Adam generally comes unprepared and inadequately "protected." The other good'un was the bit about bucketfulls of match-heads. The grand finale was a 55-gallon drum filled with a million match-heads.
And no, I was not saying that Kari isn't cute, only that they seem to rely on that cuteness to maintain a viewer's attention on the duller, more pointless "experiments." I think they use the "three kids" as some sort of counterpoint to the "two old guys" based purely on focus-group testing.

Saw a great travel poster a long while back. Showed a guy skiing across a harvested October corn field. The slogan was "Ski Nebraska!"

George, I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who saw through the ruse of adding some "damn meddling kids" to the show lineup.
The implied qualifications of Adam and Jaimie are their backgrounds in movie stunt work. That carries with it an implied understanding of physics, engineering, and a great attention to detail, since your career involves the safety of others.
Who were the new shits? What are their qualifications? You've basically got three stereotypes: the brainy Asian kid who does all the hard math, the nerdgirl who likes to saw stuff and snark, and then the idiot dope who serves as little more than a version of Buster that can supply his own dialogue.
BUSTER: *forlornly lays in a heap at the bottom of the shaft*
ZANY ANNOUNCER: "Ouch! Guess Buster needs to take a rest..in pieces!"
vs.
DOOFUS: "Augh, my balls!"

Mythbusters starting going downhill the moment they started ignoring all evidence to the contrary of what they wanted to prove. I stopped watching after the "can a bullet fired into the air come down and kill someone?" episode. All evidence points to "true," but they just had to push it until it was "busted" by pointing the gun perfectly straight up into the air. They did the same kind of stuff on other episodes, but that was the most obvious and egregious example by that airdate.
The addition of the assistants was ok in the beginning, but they started to lack interest pretty fast.
