Some GOP House Leaders Push Compromise

A number of House Republicans, including some who are likely to be in the leadership, are pushing a post-election strategy aimed at securing concrete legislation, with the goal of showing they can translate general principles into specific action.

Among the ideas is to bring a series of bills to the floor, as often as once a week, designed to cut spending in some way. Longer term, GOP leaders say they recognize they may have to compromise with Democrats in tackling broader problems.

Some of the damn RINOs are already talking aisle crossing. Note no names are mentioned in the story and it says "some in leadership".

All I can say is NOT when the DeMint wing takes over leadership.

Also, the biggest problem we have is TOO MANY LAWS. It doesn't take compromise to repeal BS laws.

Also, I wonder if this story is mostly a lie.

As a service to humanity, in particular my fellow commenters, and as I a inclined, and led by karma to do because of my Barry-like benevolence, I have unselfishly spent the last seven minutes and thirty eight seconds scouring the MFM to bring you this synopsis of this mornings news:

Democrats = those people with whom you could safely consider leaving your newborn kittensÂ… unless dem offense was piqued by some perceived slight by the right against abortion, gays, government sponsored gay childcare centers for gay toddlers, really odd gay partners of gay senators whose election campaigns are in trouble, etc., in which case your newborn kittens would wind up as the principal ingredient in cat daiquiris.

Most Americans say they want members of Congress to forge compromises to solve the nation's problems, yet many are turning to candidates in this tumultuous election season who are disdainful of compromise.

By a large margin, 57 percent to 37 percent, Americans surveyed in the latest ABC News/Yahoo! News poll say they would rather that political leaders work across party lines, even if it means "compromising on important issues." It's a sentiment heard often across the country — and one that played a critical role in helping Barack Obama win the presidential election.

Yet voters have given the president little credit for the efforts he's made to cut deals with Republicans. At the same time, conservative candidates who are campaigning on the need for more ideological purity are enjoying the support of angry voters who are expected to turn out Nov. 2 in large numbers.

I thought that the courts had already ruled on that and they must be seated immediately.

I have a solution for this problem, and I feel certain that on some level, the author of the article would find it hard to disagree with me (NYT article):

Here's the plan: Instead of continuing this obviously failed experiment in trying to provide the tools and the guidance to young people to excel, to achieve, in our newfound universal understanding that income equality is our ultimate ideal, we should adjust our efforts.  I propose that once a woman finds out that she is pregnant, she should start being paid to do everything in her power to rear her child to be an underachiever - a parasite, if you will, on society.  In this way, in the course of a few short generations, we will have achieved our ideal of income equality.

And look at all the money we will have saved by not having to build and staff schools with the additional parasites on society - piss poor teachers.

Even if they did I'm betting the Democrats will bring another court challenge and hold off seating him until a week or so after the decision -- if it goes against them.

25 The Charleston Daily Mail endorses John Raese right before he debates Joe Manchin. Here's a snippet:

Leading Democrats have made it clear that if Manchin were sent to Washington, he would be expected to function as part of the team.

Earlier this month, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told  Democratic members that it was fine to distance themselves from the leadership on the campaign trail.

"Go for it," she said. "Just win your election."

Similarly, Sen. Jay Rockefeller recently blessed the anti-Obama tack Manchin has taken of late.

"Whatever he does, I'll support, in order that he be part of the Democratic caucus," Rockefeller told The Washington Post.

Well, why? The answer is obvious:

The liberal wing of the Democratic Party want to keep churning out more of the same - perhaps another bailout, another entitlement program, a 2,000-page energy bill, a big tax increase on Jan. 1.

Voters aren't sure what they are hearing from Manchin - tactics or conviction.

National party cuts TV support for congressional candidates.

The national campaign arm for Democratic U.S. House candidates has canceled a series of television ads scheduled to begin airing Tuesday in the Philadelphia market.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had planned to run political commercials for the final two weeks until the Nov. 2 election. It has now scaled back its ad buy to just the final week, which begins Oct. 26.

In the Philadelphia media market there are a number of very competitive or high-profile congressional races, including the seats currently held by U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, a Democrat, in Bucks County and U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent, a Republican, in the Lehigh Valley. The Philadelphia market also includes northern Delaware and southern New Jersey.

The National Republican Congressional Committee, the GOP  counterpart to the DCCC, is planning to air political ads in the Philadelphia market for Fitzpatrick and for Pat Meehan, the Republican running for the Delaware County seat currently held by Joe Sestak, who is running for the U.S. Senate.

The bad news is there's no mention of NRCC support for Christine O'Donnell. But this is an Allentown, PA paper so they may not care.

29 I wouldn't worry about this bipartisanship idea being floated.  It could be a plant by the Ds to sow dissent within GOP ranks. 

Or it could be something the GOP is pushing to box Obama into a corner by saying "Hey, we wanted to compromise, but you kept pushing your leftist agenda." 

Or it could even be the real deal, but with the wave of outsiders and newbies that will get seats this election, I think the GOP leaders will quickly learn that the old ways are not going to cut it.

New numbers posted today on the Treasury Department website show the National Debt has increased by more than $3 trillion since President Obama took office.

The National Debt stood at $10.626 trillion the day Mr. Obama was inaugurated. The Bureau of Public Debt reported today that the National Debt had hit an all time high of $13.665 trillion.

The Debt increased $4.9 trillion during President Bush's two terms. The Administration has projected the National Debt will soar in Mr. Obama's fourth year in office to nearly $16.5-trillion in 2012. That's more than 100 percent of the value of the nation's economy and $5.9-trillion above what it was his first day on the job.

Mr. Obama frequently lays blame for soaring federal deficits on his predecessor.

The Town Saved By Stimulus

If you wingnuts weren't so irrational due to your fears you'd see what a great president we have.  Love the use of "saved."   

Just in time for the election, CNN touts an unemployment drop from twenty to fourteen percent in Kokomo IN.

So for a mere eight hundred billion stimulus, and the Chrysler bailout of whatever tens of billions, we got a barely-hanging-on mid-size town rocking fourteen percent unemployment.

You ungrateful fearful clingers!
