5 Copied from previous comments: I heard an interesting commercial on the local news/weather/traffic station here in Philly; it was basically "The Tea Baggers are going to shut down everything after the election but it was all Boooooosh's fault and yeah, everybody's angry, but TEAAAAA BAGGERS!" It was paid for by a government employees union. I heard this and thought, "they're conceding the election and preparing the ground for their post-election strategy. Made me smile, it did.

9 Here are some internals from the Muhlenberg poll that I was able to find...

Partisan Sample: 46R/46D

Who did you vote last election: 43 Obama/49 McCain. (Even though Obama won by 6. Toomey is under-performing with McCain voters. Sestak seems to have all Obama voters.

More numbers that should favor Toomey big time:
Sestak Favorables: 34
ObamaÂ’s Approval is 42/51.
Congressional Preferred Ballot is 44R/38D
RendellÂ’s Approval is 33/61

I also read that this will become a tracking poll and be updated frequently.

Every time I see that picture, I recall Glenn Beck going nuclear over it.  On his massive monitors, he pulled up side-by-side that picture compared to the image they were trying to recreate of MLK.

It was a very compelling comparison.

Of course, it was mostly used for John Stewart mock-fodder, but for those of us who actually, I dunno...take shit seriously...it was moving and eye-opening.

Posted by: reason at October 20, 2010 07:12 AM (XiVKO)

19 It was paid for by a government employees union.

One of the key things the Republicans better be ready to do is rein in these public sector unions. Abolishing them, which should be a goal, won't be possible in 2010, but the Reps could start putting them on the defensive.

25 The Democrats BOMBED on healthcare.

They BOMBED on the economy.

They nuked far more jobs than they "saved or created", and they never batted an eye. They have supported intimidation of voters in Philadelphia and harassment of lawmakers in Arizona, and now they are indignant because the stuff they have done for the last two years is now brought right back into their own front yards.

This is what made Anita feel so threatened:

“Good morning Anita Hill, it’s Ginni Thomas,” it said. “I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband.”

Ms. Thomas went on: “So give it some thought. And certainly pray about this and hope that one day you will help us understand why you did what you did. O.K., have a good day.”

All Ms. Thomas did was expose, yet again, what an overly sensitive bitch Anita is.

There is nothing wrong with the message and nothing threatening about it, particularly given that it was left at Hill's work number.

Anita Hill is a lying sack of shit.

Which is completely fine by me.  Knowing my luck, I'd wind up sitting next to her.  And of course, that would be the flight where your destination airport is still unwinding from some mechanical-failure delay four hours ago, so your flight is gonna be sent out to do figure-eights for the next two hours...

So yesterday, I was driving and flipping around the FM dial here in L.A. and landed on a commercial with Magic Johnson shilling for Jerry Brown.

Personally, I haven't heard or read about any effects yet of Obamacare on basic science research field.  But then again, I'm so focused on finishing my own work at the moment that I have a bit of myopia on the status of the basic science field as a whole.

Logically though, Obamacare will at least decrease the amount of money available for basic research (via federal agencies such as the NIH or NSF).

There is significantly more evidence that Bill Clinton sexually harassed multiple women then that Thomas harassed one.

Odd how the media to this date harps on Hill, whose charges were baseless, and yet can write reams about Bill Clinton without discussing his status as a sexual predator.

Yeah, basically the consensus I've heard in higher ed is that it is killing research funding.  Fortunately, since the Dems' tax policies are aggressively anti-business and anti-private foundations (and the "rich" individuals who fund them), the effect on federal funding is masked by the destruction of private giving to research and education.

@AllenG - I think we had one of those strollers.  We definitely had a Graco "travel system" for our first-born, and it was a very good piece of equipment.  But, like you said, Step One is RTFM on all this stuff.

This part of the story is my favorite:
The recalled strollers were made before the development in 2008 of a voluntary standard that requires a larger stroller opening between the stroller's tray and seat bottom in order to prevent entrapment and strangulation.

So instead of your kid getting trapped between the seat and the snack-tray, where the unattentive parent never notices their child is hung until they suffocate...the solution is to make the hole bigger.  That way, the child will slip clean through, and get run over by the stroller, and then trampled by same unattentive parent.  Champion!

I've got other issues with the story, and just how many things the parents are doing wrong.  Beyond the obvious "not strapping them in" Problem 1, my guess is that they are also using the product other than as-designed for the age of their child.  If your child is still an infant (which, to me, says, not yet walking), then you should still have your child in the carrier, not simply in the stroller.

"Clearly, the only FAIR solution to Graco's problem is for the company to send out a representative to each customer, who will properly strap the child into the stroller, push them around for the parent, and then safely extract the child from the stroller.  All of this should be provided free-of-charge.  Frankly, I believe that the disparity between Graco's executives, and those other fat-cats in the Big Baby industry, and their customers in the lower- to middle-class has grown too large, and it is time for these companies to put safety first and profits second."

Of course they are.  If they could be that effective at "obstruction" with only 40 senators, imagine what they'd do with 47 (about the minimum number I've heard).  Hey, they might even pass something so deviously clever that Obama would commit political suicide by vetoing it -thereby rendering the Presidential Veto ineffective!

Those squirrel-ly Republicans- they have Super-Constitutional Powers they do!!!

---

Really, am I supposed to believe that they're incompetent, or that they successfully "obstructed" Obama's agenda for two years while the Democrats had super-majorities in both houses?  Pick one.

If you believe the first, then explain why the Democrats shouldn't be voted out- seeing how they failed miserably to complete their own agenda (yes, Health Care got through- remember Cap N Trade, or Card Check?  Hmmm... what happened to those, I wonder?).

If you believe the second, then ANY gains in the Senate would equate to "taking over."

That's a whopping $30 bucks extra in a bi-weekly paycheck, which is barely enough to pay for gas these days. And the Dems are PROUD of this. 133 @110 - Yeah, the big thing to me is that there are (IIRC) 9 total incidents.  Nine.
Not Nine thousand, not nine hundred, not ninety.  Nine.  Four of those were deaths and five were "injuries."

So, for a total of approximately 18 parents' inability to perform the incredibly simple function of strapping a child into a stroller (something I do with fair frequency, and I never did read the manual), Graco now has to be soaked for millions of dollars just so they won't be sued, and if I want a new Graco product, I'm on the hook for that lost money.

Here's a question that just occurred to me last night and it made me go, "Hmm."  With Obamacare looming, and the inevitable "death panels" and medical rationing it brings, how are life insurance sales faring?  Obamacare's going to see to it we all die early, before we become a drain on the system, so you'd think folks might want to invest in life insurance so their families will have a little something put by after their death.

Of course, that's not counting the death tax and inheritance taxes and every other g*ddamn tax the gubment can think of.  So perhaps this is really just a stupid question.  But it did get me wondering.

159 Baby gear maker Graco is recalling about 2 million strollers after receiving reports that four infants died in the strollers.

If my math is right, there's at 1,999,996 infants (probably more, if parents sold them or handed them down to a friend when the kid got too big) whose parent(s) managed to work the straps properly.
