Sanford says SC pension fund in trouble

Notice the headline "Sanford says"; trying to imply its either Sanford's fault or somehow or another he is lying.

COLUMBIA — Experts say the pension fund for state employees in South Carolina is underfunded, but they disagree on how much more money is needed.

The State newspaper reported Gov. Mark Sanford called a summit to discuss the problem Wednesday.

OK, now its those old ubiquitous "experts" and not Sanford.

The Budget and Control Board estimates the shortfall at $12 billion. Sanford thinks itÂ’s much higher.

Aiken Sen. Greg Ryberg says he thinks the shortfall is between $20 billion and $30 billion. He expects lawmakers to work on the problem next year.

So, they still try to blame Sanford in one sentence and then give a different source in another sentence. Personally, I suspect the bigger number is more accurate and that it is actually low.

So what's the solution?

Alternatives include cutting benefits, raising the number of years for workers to retire from 28 years to 30 years. Lawmakers could also change the way benefits are calculated.

So nowhere do they actually propose fixing the damn system to where it is paid for as the benefits are accrued. You know, the way the government makes private companies do it.

The final solution if it goes like they have been doing for the last ten years is they will enact another one or two cent sales tax hike.

Soon SC will have the nation's only 20% VAT.

She probably does feel "put upon". Sanford IS somewhat of a McCain in that it was her money that put him in office originally.

I don't know the personal details of their marriage but she does have a good case for a grudge. I don't support him at all in his cheating, but I don't fault his political views because of that. They are two separate issues.

My view on that kind of shit is (a) If you want to play the field, don't get married and (b) If you are married and you want to play the field, then get "un-married" first.

I don't think we'll know the election results until a few weeks later, because they can't just count up the write in votes like they do the Republican and Democrat votes, they have to decide if they are legitimite or meet the requirments, if there are any.

we can't set out sights too high. Keep in mind Obama can veto anything, and the we probably won't get the senate. So the best they can do on Obamacare is defund it. It will be impossible for them to repeal in in the 2010-2012 congress.

The best we can hope for is to make Obama a lame duck, prevent any major initiatives of his going through, and slowly turning back some of his "work". specifically getting out the the car industry and most importantly preventing the union bailout or 401K grab.

All other federal taxes would be repealed. That is no luxury tax, no road tax, no gasoline tax, no sales tax, no telephone fees et al. A tax would be defined as any money that is collected by the government that flows into the general fund.

All of this would be locked in by a Constitutional Amendment called for by an Article V convention called for by the States.

Any violation of this by any branch of the government would call for automatic impeachment or other removal from office. This to be enforced by a special commission formed by the individual States.

Despite Liberal Polls- Rasmussen Still Has Penn Senate Race in the Solid GOP Column

Liberal polling organizations the past couple of days have reported the senate race tightening in Pennsylvania. A new Quinnipiac poll out today suggests the race is down to a two point lead for Republican Pat Toomey over Pelosi-Democrat Joe Sestak.

However, Rasmussen Reports, the most accurate polling service hated by liberals, still has Toomey with a convincing lead over his far left rival.

Rasmussen still lists the Pennsylvania race in the “Solid GOP” column.

From the NY Daily News:

“There is still a mood in the likely Pennsylvania electorate for change, which appears more likely to help Toomey than Sestak,” said Brown. “Among the 33% of likely voters who say they are angry with the federal government, Toomey leads 77 – 17%.”

And finally, from the nation's premier authority, THE NEW YORK TIMES:

Our forecast  yesterday evening, which did not yet include the Rasmussen poll (nor the internal polls; we do not use them in our Senate predictions), showed a projected 7-point victory for Mr. Toomey and gave him a 92 percent chance of emerging as the victor. None of the new information would lead me to deviate greatly from that forecast.

I feel compassion for him because he generally comes off as a guy who is wrong-headed but not mean-spirited, because he seemed genuinely shaken by being dumped by his employer over the phone, and because I know what it's like to be treated shabbily by an employer.  The fact that millions of people have lost or are losing their jobs does not lessen my compassion for one individual being shit-canned by his employer.

I don't disagree that it's being pushed religiously/culturally.  I have a friend who has traveled to the ME annually since the 60's and she saw the changes starting 15 years ago and talked about it extensively.  The push and influence of the fundy's into all avenues of arabic life as started in the most basic ways....
