One thing that struck mew was the still open CA-20. The last poll conducted for that race had the Republican up by 10 points. Normally those late polls are the most accurate so what happened?

This business of saying that Reagan didn't use twitter so Palin shouldn't if she wants to compare herself to him sounds the same as the musician's argument that if J.S.Bach had the modern piano at his fingertips, he would/wouldn't have used it. There should be no other thought unless you include "honesty" because even if they profess to be "in your corner" if they are flip-flopping liars they will likely stab you in the back anyway.
AFTER the primary you can decide if your "candidate" is now one that is the "lesser of two evils" and if you can stomach holding your nose and voting for them.

What candidate doesn't "need some time," Vic? I don't see anyone on the list of '12 possibles who doesn't either need to demonstrate that they can act as well as talk, prove that some of their earlier deeds and words are no longer part of their agenda, or simply give some evidence that they have some substance.
Unfortunately, the Stupid 52% gave us a president whose sole "qualification" for the office is his skin color. No experience, no substance. Another 50 years sucking on the public teat wouldn't have given him enough "time" to demonstrate any ability.
So we may have to go for a Christie. The old ways -- look at Reagan, or Goldwater for that matter -- of electing someone who went through the stages to become a viable candidate seem to be over.
As for Perry: I haven't been in Texas all that long, but he's looking like Just Another Politician, one who says one thing and does another.

As for primaries and the 2012 candidate I expect that the news media will be hitting that hard. Hell Fox already is with their 12 in 2012 series.
But my point still remains, forget the "electability" shit for the primaries. Vote who is good for you positions and who is honest. After the primary is the time to worry about other issues.

Your family has more on the line than mine does. I still don't get why TXDOT has to do all the planning, etc with no transparency, and then we hand the final product off to a foreign interest. Makes no sense at all.
Finally, rail could be used so much more than it is now (I understand TTC involved a railway in the right-of-way). Government seems bent on spending tons of cash just because they can, and everywhere you turn are Politicians getting rich off of those deals.

If you're talking about the Merritt Parkway, they ended the tolls long ago. Of course now there are problems with pavement, bridges, etc. that need to be addressed, and no money for 'em.
I have no beef with toll roads, as long as two rules are followed: First, all profit (after collection costs) needs to be used to pay off the original cost, future repairs and nothing else. Second, if they are privatized, that the ownership pass to an American company.

Once they get the money, they don't want to give it up. And once the road is paid for, they don't tell people, they just use the money for other things as they've already crafted the legislation allowing the toll to begin with to allow them to continue it after its intended purpose is satisfied.
Hey you are talking about folks who used our Social Security money for other purposes. So maybe they will do it in texas but the other states won't.
There's no reason for a north south toll road.

In more ways than one - there used to be tolls on I-95 every few miles in CT back in the 1980's... until a huge truck crashed into the cars in front of it at one of the toll plazas. Something like 16 people lost their lives in the worst way, and the toll plazas were finally done away with.
