Dubbed Bozo, the black bear was a fixture in the area around Fernwood Resorts, eating from restaurant trash bins and sometimes letting people pet him. But the 879-pound bear was killed by a hunter Nov. 15 on the first day of archery season.

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials said the hunter who bagged Bozo, the heaviest bear ever harvested in the state, did nothing illegal. But that hasn't stopped an outpouring of grief from residents who had grown to love him.

"I'm devastated. I'm just devastated," said Leroy Lewis, 71, the former resort groundskeeper who began feeding the then-cub more than a decade ago. "I mean I feel like I lost a friend."

Lewis said the bear would come knock on the door when he was hungry.

"I fed him for 17 years and I raised him from a cub," Lewis told the Stroudsburg Pocono Record. "He loved doughnuts and anything sweet. I was never scared of him."

All the people who fed and "adopted" that bear did it no favor. Left to its own devices and natural instincts, he probably would have been miles away from hunters on that day, or any other.

99 If i'm not around I have enormous cooking to do, libbys has a pumpkin bread kit on sale in walmart and other places.  If you have to bring something and you want to have it something you made, this thing is absolutely fool proof.  I had to bring something and didn't have the time to do "from scratch"....to a cookie swap...but something we could eat then, so I made the pumpkin bread and got such rave reviews, since I'm known for my cooking and baking, I didn't even bother to mention that it was a kit from libbys (sorry libbys)  But, it's inexpensive, when you buy it, buy the two pyrex loaf pans on sale and it's like 5 minutes from box to loaf pan and you're done.  duncan Hines also has a sugar cookie mix out there that is also good.  The non cook at the cookie swap used it and it was great and she spent like half an hour on her cookies when everyone else spent a day.  These are great time savers for non cooks/bakers or people who work right up until the last minute and have no time.

Then you misread the article.  It had been *fed* since it was a cub by well-intentioned idiots, not *raised*, which implies training.  The bear was not kept as a pet, in a contained area, it was not fed on a schedule and trained.  It roamed around freely and did bear stuff.  Hell, Siegfried and Roy raised the lion that tried to eat Roy's head from a cub, too.  Wild animals are not truly tameable, and nature is not a petting zoo.

Have you read his book?  It is awesome.  It is an easy to read, interesting book..  It is more like a conversation than a memoir.  Well worth the time and money. Plus, it will remind you what it felt like to have a strong supporter of our troops in the WH. It is also really refreshing to hear a President speak about his love for America.

Mexican authorities advised Americans and anyone else going home to visit relatives for the holidays to drive in convoys — and only during daylight hours. From the LAT's Daniel Hernandez in Mexico City:

These convoys can be "escorted or monitored" if travelers check in with federal agents upon crossing the border, the government said. The Mexican army is also offering protection.

The recommendation signals an acknowledgement that hold-ups and violence on Mexico's roads attributed to drug-trafficking gangs could affect the holiday travel crush.

That was another case of combining two separate issues so that they could pass a BS fraudulent bill among something that needed doing.

The Indian tribes have been systematically cheated out of royalties for decades. The case has gotten so bad that some courts have actually threatened to jail beurocrats in the department of the interior.

So they took money needed to settle that case and combined it with that bogus case that the DOJ settled w/o a fight. The one where that poor black woman was fired because of Breitbart.

I guess Kyl figured as long as there was 1.2 billion going for BS phony claims his constituents should get a cut as well. His case also involved a court action between Indians and the government. Some may not consider it an "earmark" but the method that was used to add it to the bill was earmark all the way.

ALL of these bills need to be broken up and passed separately. The payoff to the CBC could never have passed on its own.

125 113-Y-Not, for your sweet potatoes, boil up about 2 pounds, mash them with 1/2 stick of butter, 2 eggs, 1/3 cup of milk/cream, and a teaspoon of vanilla. Spread this into a 9x 13 pan (greased with a little butter) and then make the following streusal topping-1/2 stick butter, 1/3 cup of flour, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup chopped pecans. Mix this until crumbly, then sprinkle on top of the sweet potatoes. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes, or until top is browned, and the potatoes are bubbly. Yum. Also-squash casserole-yellow squash, sliced and mixed with diced, sauteed onion (1 pound squash to 1 medium onion), add 1 can of rotel tomatoes, 1 can of green chilies, and 1/ salt and pepper to taste, and then place in baking dish, and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. (Some top this with shredded cheddar, for the last 5 minutes). Southern Living Online has some recipes as well, but honestly, it's not the Southern Living I grew up with. I don't much care for the recipes anymore. If you can find an older volume, use that-the recipes are really good, taste really good, and will put the Food Police on high alert. Just what you want for holiday meals. Hope yours is wonderful!

Thanks!  I picked up some pecans yesterday with an eye toward doing something along those lines.  It's great to have the recipe and endorsement. 

I wanted to do some sort of greens, but we're expecting snow today and I'm not sure I feel right aobut sending the hubby out to try to find ingredients for a dish I've never made before.  I'm laid up with a cold.

Turducken is roasting away.  It's been about 2 hours and it smells great already!  A couple of more hours to go.  Then the painful part -- waiting for it to rest for 45 minutes before carving. 

127 Mmmmmmm, sounds wonderful.. Save the greens and use a little of the turducken with them tomorrow-cook in chicken broth with chopped up meat, salt, pepper, and serve over rice with a piece of corn bread. Enjoy your meal, feel better from your cold, and God's blessings on your Thanksgiving!!
