Here's one thing I posted yesterday but I don't think many people saw it.
Chris Christie is looking to shake up the liberal activist judiciary in New Jersey, but he's having trouble making it happen, as chaos breaks out not just around but in the state supreme court there.He has decided not to renew a liberal judge in the court which is within his authority. The lead justice cries file and appoints a replacement (liberal) even though he has no authority to do that. Then the legislature instead of going after the lead judge, goes after the Christie appointee.
In this case it looks like Christie will have to go to the U.S. federal courts for relief because the NJ courts and legislature has decided to defy the law.

Gawker hacked:
The attack included GawkerÂ’s eponymous flagship property, as well as gadget site Gizmodo and the culture site Jezebel. The successful Gawker hack followed a week of escalating attacks in the wake of WikileaksÂ’s continued release of U.S. State Dept. documents and counter-attacks by hackers associated with group known as Anonymous, which has staged a campaign called Operation Payback.
Over the last year, Gawker has been covering, with its trademark disdain, the antics of the 4Chan message board, leading 4Chan users to attack the site with denial-of-service attacks in July. ThatÂ’s the same tactic being used against Visa.com, Paypal.com and Mastercard.com for those companiesÂ’ decisions to cut-off the ability to donate to Wikileaks.
But the latest attack is much more serious than a typical denial-of-service attack. GawkerÂ’s attackers managed to infiltrate the companyÂ’s content management system (CMS), user database, and internal communications system. The hackers then published a raw file containing that information.
Gnosis took pains to say, in the uploaded file, that they were not 4Chan, even as they gave a shout-out to it, along with Anonymous. 4chan can only be described as one of the most obnoxious (and sometimes hilarious) corners of the net, but itÂ’s not a place where the most sophisticated hackers generally congregate.
Still, Gnosis’s choice of targets and their foul language puts them firmly in the net’s “griefer” culture.

Tonight, 60 Minutes showed footage of Boehner crying on the floor of Congress when he discussed a bill which he believed would benefit American children. He also cried repeatedly during the interview with Lesley Stahl, who seemed a bit confused, and maybe even a bit incredulous, by Boehner's continued and seemingly uncontrollable crying.

The Winn-Dixie here closed about 5 or 10 years ago. The Piggly-Wiggly is in sorry shape here and always has been.
I used to like the Harris Teeter but they closed up all of their SC stores and left the State. We are now pretty much stuck with WalMart now. (and their meat department sucks)

Ain't seen 'em this far west. But we have several other chains that are good (Kroger, Brookshire, and Alberson's which is over-priced but very well-stocked and never crowded). And a nice big Commissary where I can get Dunkin Donuts coffee for almost $4 less than Albertson's...

The big treat for me was that box of Animal Crackers my mother gave me to keep me quiet while she shopped. I remember her putting the empty box on the conveyor belt when we were checking out. Looking back one could tell which cashiers had kids, they'd give a knowing smile at the sight of the empty box; the younger ones looked puzzled.
The building the A&P occupied is still there and in fact still a grocery store, or was until a month ago when they closed.

In central and south Texas. I grew up in Amarillo, and it was Piggly Wiggly all the way. In Austin now, and HEB definitely gives ya the best bang for the buck.

Avoiding Walmart? Well, I can go between 10 and 11 am on weekdays, so I'm okay. On the weekends, I head away from the city to the smaller Brookshires which has the nicest people working there--even for here, where most people working in stores are super nice.

I saw the Boehner piece and interview last night on CBS. The piece was largely positive, except that he kept crying. They guy cries at the drop of a hat. He comes off as a bit overwrought, maybe even a bit fragile, emotionally. Somethings not right.

The best place to get meat was at a small country gas station grocery store about 15 miles from here in the middle of nowhere. The guy running it was a retired butcher.
He had the best rib-eyes in the world. Other meat was good too. He knew how to go to the slaughterhouse and pick out good stuff.
Both of them are gone now. HT closed up shop and left, the great butcher died.

Vic, I am pretty sure Winn Dixie was union, but since they operated in right to work states no much came of it. They filed for Bankruptcy several years ago.
Also, A & P basically was bankrupt years ago and got "saved" by the Germans.
This is why NYC doesn't want Wal Mart. Wal Mart eats unions!

While on the treadmill, I noticed that the privacy fence between our development and the office complex in which the testing center resided was falling apart in several places. Afterward I drove along it and took photos of the glaring examples of its decrepitude, including the fallen section behind our property. Time to get the neighborhood association to ask when the complex's owners intend to fix it.

Funny story. Some years ago we went to a blog roundup in Beaumont (summer before Katrina). While shopping at a Target for some incidentals, we kept asking folks where the HEB was. People looked at us askance, and just shook their heads. Someone finally told us. When we found our way there for groceries, it all made sense.
