Awm dogfish, give it a rest. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
The tail (i.e., the Tea Partiers) ain't about to wag the dog (i.e., the Republican Party). The Tea Partiers need the Republican Party. The Republican Party doesn't need the Tea Partiers. If you disagree, form your own third party and see how many votes you get. If Tea Partiers can't be team players, they can go screw themselves. BTW, most Tea Partiers don't share your screwy attitude on that issue. They have more sense.

Reapportionment, anyone? Summary of Democrat defections to Republicans in state legislatures at HotAirPundit: twenty-five (25) to date, including one in Louisiana Senate that gives GOP control of that state's legislature for the first time since Reconstruction.

I said the same thing on the ONT the other night when a link was posted for that. There has to be something else going on.
A ballistic missile is not the weapon to take out a carrier. First you have to find it and that is NOT as easy as the movies make out. We once hid from the Russians while heading over to WESPAC and they tried to find us for their traditional bear flyover. They never did find us yet we knew exactly where their bombers were every step of the way.
Once they find the carrier they have to launch. We will know as soon as they launch. It is normally a 30 min flight time to targets in the Pacific. A carrier can move a LONG way in 30 min.
The optimal weapon to take out a carrier is a sub, if not that a massive short range missile strike from a surface fleet to overwhelm the defenses.

It isn't as if any rules apply in this administration, no rule other than "because I could."

I think those things are a long way off. The course correction and ability to hit a moving target as small (yes it's small from space) as a carrier is rough.
If we can get along with China for another 20 years or so(maybe less), things will be ok. Demographically they are fucked.

So, Congress got all worried that people weren't thinking they were doing enough for the people of New Orleans, so they passed all of that aid stuff, including the gift cards, the trailers, the money for new levee construction, etc. etc.
So, about a year later, after it turned out that a bunch of the money had been stolen, the trailers were full of formaldehyde, the gift cards had been used for lap dances and casinos and designer purses, and everyone was on a tear about the corruption and waste, Newt appears on Fox again.
And he said, "Well this is what you get when the federal government gets involved in something like this. It should have been handled by the private sector."
Besides learning that I could restrain myself and not shoot my television, I learned that Newt is a publicity hound and opportunist, who is going to take whatever is publicly popular, sometimes putting a conservative spin on it, sometimes not.
So Newt sitting on the sofa with Pelosi chatting about global warming shouldn't have surprised us. Now that the jig is up on the global warming scam, he will probably appear with Henryk Svenmark talking about how we all should have known that climate is controlled by cosmic rays.
He's an opportunist. No Newt.

Right after Hurricane Katrina, Newt was on Fox and said "What the president needs to do is form a Marshall Plan for the Gulf Coast, in order to pump money into rebuilding the economy." ( For those who do not know, a "Marshall Plan" would have been a huge injection of federal money..)
Posted by: Miss Marple at December 31, 2010 08:33 AM (Fo83G)
What has transpired in the Gulf with this Administration's shutdown of drilling is best described as an "Anti-Marshall Plan" as it cripples the region's economy.

Good point. It could be just saber-rattling, as somebody suggested. Besides, the Chinese probably already have a sizable inventory of Sunburn missiles and similarly designed projectiles made in-house.
Still, growing assertiveness of the Chinese is concerning. We'd best keep an eye on them.

34 You don't need alot of warhead to wreck shop when you are going at the speeds they would be. The kinetic energy alone would be massive. (Think about those naval rail guns we are working on)
I think those things are a long way off. The course correction and ability to hit a moving target as small (yes it's small from space) as a carrier is rough.
Who knows what Loral has sold the Chicoms lately? The concept is perfectly feasible and some of it is rather old technology.
It's perfect asymmetric warfare. For the price of maybe one carrier group you acquire the means to destroy every carrier group sent to Taiwan. And it's much more difficult to defend from than submarines, which China already has.
Posted by: Ed Anger at December 31, 2010 04:44 AM (7+pP9)
The failure to evacuate was because of Nagin and Blanco's refusal to issue the order.
I remain convinced this was done for political purposes, and what we saw in Katrina was what would have happened had we had a terrorist attack.
At any rate, enough about that. New Orleans has had enough help. I await the massive outpouring of aid for the western states hit by the blizzards. Not holding my breath.
Posted by: Miss Marple at December 31, 2010 04:45 AM (Fo83G)
The summer we moved to Waterloo (in the summer of Katrina), we couldn't get our trailer moved to our lot (which we were paying for) for about a month or so (even though we had paid our deposit of a few thou) because FEMA had every moving company busting their humps to move "temporary trailers" to all the trailer parks. Btw, I hadn't been in any of the temporary trailers, but they looked to be about the same caliber of all the permanent trailers in the trailer parks.
We finally got the company to move our trailer by reminding them the they'd had our check for a few thou for a month and we were waiting patiently but we really needed to get our trailer up and operating, thank you.

Absolutely. Newt is the guy who jumps in front of a parade to lead. Does he jump ahead of everybody? No, but he jumps soon enough, depending on the tailwind, not to be trusted. Now he just plays an endless game of "will he or won't he" coy to stay relevant, topical, and marketable. Principle has nothing to do with it.
Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at December 31, 2010 05:02 AM (swuwV)
couldn't agree more.
No one spouts outright lies and convoluted hypocrisy more brilliantly than der Newt.
What is it about "fire in teh belly" that Media crave for the public to laud? So Newt spouts shit geysers, and we're stuck wading through his shit fall-out. They laugh all the way to the bank while we're stuck with compounded bail-outs.
Let Newt play the party cheerleader as he bulldogged the reporter attempting to tease a Palin attack at the GOP '08 Convention, but certainly not Newt the team captain -- been there, done that with cloak and dagger House Speaker knifing the young conservative newly elected conservative Republicans in the back last time. Never again.
AS IF today's voters, largely in favor of the Tea Party protest of government corruption, want the saboteur der Newt decapitating conservatism now. It isn't as if he was ever a fiscal conservative, nor has he ever worked to restrain authoritarianism. Newt's as progressive as can be imagined in real time, monumental disaster.
I'd hope that the Tea Party movement has made inroads on that "fire in teh belly" Affekt. Our present EXPECTATIONS reject revisionist Hollywood/Washingtonian scripted remakes.

I'm sure the Chicoms have better recon platforms in space than the Soviets did when you were in the navy.Maneuverable reentry vehicles are 1980's technology.
30 minutes is the time a Russian ICBM would take to reach America -- a Chicom SRBM would take significantly less time to reach the waters around Taiwan.
There are significant, but not impossible, tech issues that would need to be addressed.
Simply blowing off the threat makes you sound like Lord Cherwell.

I posted this yesterday off topic on another thread so I figure it would be more appropriate here. These people are sicker than furries.
Off Topic, but this a a TOTALLY WTF article:
Transcending the Human, DIY Style
Lepht Anonym wants everyone to know the door to transcending normal human capabilities is no farther away than your own kitchen. ItÂ’s just going to hurt like a sonofabitch.
Anonym is a biohacker, a woman who has spent the last several years learning how to extend her own senses by putting tiny magnets and other electronic devices under her own skin, allowing her to feel electromagnetic fields, or – if her latest project works – even magnetic north.
Since doctors wonÂ’t help her, she does it in her own apartment, sterilizing her equipment (needles, scalpels, vegetable peelers) with vodka. Good anesthetic is largely impossible to buy, so she screams a little, and sometimes passes out. But itÂ’s worth it, for whatÂ’s on the other side.
[ . . . ]
So she began experimenting with homebrewed sensors. The metal itself is extremely toxic, so she needed a coating to bioproof it, finding a solution ultimately in a silicon putty-like substance called Sugru. But hot-gun glue works fine too, she says. (“I have lots of things in me coated in hot-gun glue,” she says.)
[ . . . ]
The medical consequences can be both severe and likely to elicit hostility from doctors. SheÂ’s put herself in the hospital several times. She nearly lost a fingertip the first time she tried to implant a neodymium disc herself. Various experiments with bioproofing have failed, with implants rusting under her skin, or her own self-surgeries turning septic.
But if that list of horrors isnÂ’t enough to scare someone off, sheÂ’s also eager to help others avoid some of the mistakes sheÂ’s made in learning.
------
There's even more crazy in the entire article.

Ounce of prevention, pound of cure.
Yes, the misery of the Katrina "response" was and remains the failure to evacuate because of Nagin and Blanco's refusal to issue the order compounded by these two Democrat politicians refusing the Red Cross immediate authority to function relief aid where physically possible. Of course FEMA would be a royal fuck-up, being the nature of every federal bureaucracy.
