Gov.-elect Nikki Haley has moved to protect Boeing Co., the stateÂ’s recently arrived aerospace giant, nominating a union-fighting attorney to head the agency that oversees business licensing, professional boards and the labor law enforcement.

Haley said she chose Charleston attorney Catherine Templeton — whose Ogletree Deakins bio lists “union avoidance” as a specialty — as director of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation to prevent organized labor from gaining a foothold in the 787 Dreamliner plant now under construction. Boeing executives said South Carolina’s anti-union history was a key factor in their decision to open a new plant outside their long-time home in the Seattle area.

“I think we’re going to have a union fight as we go forward with Boeing,” Haley said in announcing Templeton’s nomination.

I don't think I have ever seen her make any comments on that issue. I would have to do some research. In any case SC laws are fairly tough on illegals already and I do not see her undoing any of that. 

The last time I looked at a chart showing estimated illegals by State (a few years ago) SC was very low. Also, they have been building new houses in an addition to my neighborhood and BION no pile of illegals working the houses.

Specifically, our reform proposals would:

* Outlaw “Sanctuary Cities” for illegal immigrants
* Make it a felony for an illegal immigrant to falsify employment papers
* Revoke college admission and scholarships for illegal immigrants
* Eliminate illegal immigrantsÂ’ access to all taxpayer-funded benefits
* Do away with public employment for illegal immigrants
* Make it a felony to harbor or transport illegal immigrants

Additionally, our reform package would empower local law enforcement to detain and deport illegal immigrants convicted of a crime, and would create a civil cause of action for any South Carolinian who loses his or her job to an illegal alien.

Now, our bill moves to the South Carolina Senate for debate. If approved there, it will go to the governor for his signature.

We passed these proposals because we simply couldnÂ’t afford to wait any longer for the federal government to take action. The illegal immigrant population in South Carolina has already increased fifteen-fold in the past decade, costing taxpayers nearly $200 million a year.

ThatÂ’s money we could be using on needed services for hard-working South Carolinians, or better yet, money we could be putting back in your pocket in the form of additional tax relief.

You sent me to Columbia to look out for your best interests (and your bottom line), and thatÂ’s exactly what these tough new immigration laws will do for South Carolina workers and taxpayers.

I look forward to your feedback and promise to keep you updated in the weeks ahead as we keep fighting for the passage of these vital reforms.

Yeah, I'm with you.  I hadn't realized that the estate tax goes up as part of the deal.  Bad.  Plus the unfunded spending increase.  I'm OK with extending the UC benes, but there has to be an offsetting cut in spending on something else, or it just makes matters worse. 

Hugh Hewitt pointed out that this compromise violates the GOP's recent Contract with America.  I'm afraid that this is going to be the theme of the next 2 years--"compromise" spending deals that only make the mid and long term problems worse.  Face it, gang--the GOP doesn't do spending cuts.
