In its budget proposal to be released on Monday, the White House predicts a record $1.6 trillion budget deficit for the fiscal year that ends September 30, the Capitol Hill source said.

According to the estimate, deficits will narrow to $700 billion by fiscal 2013 before gradually rising back to $1.0 trillion by the end of the decade, the source said.

In his budget, Obama will propose a three-year freeze on some domestic programs to save $20 billion next year and $250 billion over the coming decade.

But that will not be enough to get deficits down permanently to the 3 percent of gross domestic product that most economists consider sustainable.

Don't worry Barry, it's all Bush's fault.

Future presidents will be able to justifiably blame Obama for the next 4-5 presidential terms.  That's about how long presidents were taking credit for Reaganomics after he left office.

Have no fear about $1.6 trillion deficit.

President Barack Obama will propose cutting or changing some 120 items in his budget for fiscal 2011 that will help save $20 billion this year, the White House said on Saturday.

Is cut or change just like save or create jobs?

The US is dispatching Patriot defensive missiles to four countries – Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait – and keeping two ships in the Gulf capable of shooting down Iranian missiles. Washington is also helping SaudiArabia develop a force to protect its oil installations.

American officials said the move is aimed at deterring an attack by Iran and reassuring Gulf states fearful that Tehran might react to sanctions by striking at US allies in the region. Washington is also seeking to discourage Israel from a strike against Iran by demonstrating that the US is prepared to contain any threat.

Program that (arguably) catapulted the U.S. to it's sole leadership position in the world, pretty much cancelled by Obama.  Instead, we get to watch climate change happen on a seasonally adjusted basis.  We will also have a ring side seat for watching India, China and Russia moon (no pun intended) us from the moon and other heavenly bodies.  At least we will finally be able to eradicate that pesky belly button fuzz.

with deficit spending like this administration, the u.s. would be kicked out of the european union!

What gets me is that both China and Moody's has warned them that this is unsustainable and will have consequences. Moody's has threatened to downgrade the quality of U.S. Bond which would have a disasterous effect on the budget above what is already a disaster.

This reminds me of some of the "surveys" rpeorted in the news back when Bush was president.  Surveys that said "most people trusted Democrats more than Republicans on the economy". I threw the BS flag then and I repeat now. Electing Democrats is a sure fire way to collapse the economy.

I think what is going on is the deficit numbers projected in the budget make the assumption that cap and trade will be passed and that revenue will be part of the underlying numbers. There are a lot of assumptions like improving tax receipts and such that they are using that makes the budget look better then it really is. In truth the deficit from this budget will probably be much higher then projected.

101 Headlines from Illinois where the state budget deficit is PRESENTLY 12 billion dollars.

High Speed Rail Funding Coming Soon

Tomorrow is the Illinois Primary.  Call up any GOP campaign and ask if you help them phone bank.  The GOP needs almost 2/3rds of independents to pull GOP ballots to deny the Democrats a ballot victory.  Hughes can't win in the Senate and is going to lose the primary, but he's doing everything he can to pull in the Conservative Republicans.  They need to vote to pick a strong candidate for Governor.

I'm voting for Dan Proft and Mark Kirk.  I like Proft over Adam Andreweski because of Proft's policy knowledge, but Andreweski has been quite the campaigner without ever having run for office before.  He's an interesting talent that has the most to gain if he can challenge for the GOP primary for governor.

93 Beck played a clip of Steve Douchey on Fox saying that they are moving away from being called progressives to being called populists.  He said 65% of the American people define themselves as populists.  Do the American people even know what populism is?   This is sort of like a GWB doctrine moment.  People assume beign a populist has something to do with liking things that are popular.

So they want to be called "populists" now. They have to change their label every few years because people get wise to their ways  First they were "progressives"  in the early 1900s. Then they coopted the term liberal. After wearing that one out they went back to "progressives" again.  Now they want to be called "populists"

"In actuality they are all communists."

True 'dat.

I actually started to notice the shift to "Progressive" back in the '80's when I lived in Vermont.  Bernie Sanders had just moved onto statewide politics and ditched his "Socialist" ID for the more neutral "Independant" tag.  His heir to the throne of the People's Republic of Burlington, Peter Somethingorother, decided that "Socialist" was a little extreme, too and settled on the "Progressive" moniker.

In the end though, your statement pretty much covers it.

They discouraged him since they said his house and usage was too big and for the cost, it would not make any difference.

Back when I was still working for the utility I read a paper from one of the utility think tanks about the incentives in Southern CA where there is a lot of sunshine.

When they had their big "energy crisis" and raised the rates through the roof it actually reached the "break even" point, assuming heavy federal and State subsidies. (also assuming a LOT of sunshine)

At that time rates in CA were in excess of 15 cents/kw with  penealties for using above a certain amount. With the subsidies solar panels would actually pay for themselves within the 10 period that was considered their average lifetime.

However, the subsidies only are good for the first time installation. After that they never reach break even unless your rates become astronomically high. This is what the greens are shooting for.

150 A teacher was arrested  today at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a  flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, a  slide-rule and a  calculator.

At a morning press  conference, the Attorney General said he believes the man is a member of  the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been  charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math  instruction. '"Al-Gebra is a problem for  us," the Attorney General said. "They derive solutions by means and  extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values."  They use secret code names like 'X' and 'Y' and refer to themselves as  "unknowns", but we have determined that they belong to a common  denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every  country. As the Greek philanderer  Isosceles used to say, 'There are 3 sides to every  triangle'. When asked to comment on  the arrest, President Obama said, "If God had wanted us to have better  weapons of maths instruction, he would have given us more fingers and  toes." White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more  intelligent or profound statement by the President. It is believed that  the Nobel Prize for Physics will  follow.

Beyond the fact that Kirk is unelectable in the fall (he sucks on social issues, gun control, fiscal issues with his vote for Cap and Trade, and national defense with his vote against the Surge-so conservatives would have no problem at all voting against him in protest in November), your comment confuses me.  Proft is running on slashing state taxes to bring us in line with Indiana, but mostly he's running on opposing the Chicago Democrats with courage rather than the go-along-to-get-along ways of the party establishment and Kirk.  So, how do you square that circle?

Reacting to the President's Budget [KJL]

Scott Hodge, president of the Tax Foundation, tells NRO: "This budget should put a stake in the heart of Keynesian economics once and for all. If government spending was the engine for economic growth, the U.S. would now be the economic wonder of the world and the president would not be tying our fortunes to a grab bag of targeted tax credits to 'create jobs.'"

"The biggest problem facing the ability of the U.S. economy to compete in the global economy is our high corporate tax rate," Hodge argues, "now second highest among industrialized countries to Japan. Rather than lower the rate, the president is proposing $209 billion in tax increases on U.S. companies trying to compete abroad. Not only is the U.S. corporate tax rate out of step with the rest of the world, but the administration is out of step with the realities of global business today."

Hodge adds: "Ironically, the president said he wants to promote more exports. What is he expecting? That U.S. companies will just make stuff here and not develop supply chains, sales offices, or marketing efforts abroad? Heaven forbid they do because they will be rewarded with higher taxes if the administration gets its way."

Vic, I am assuming the "smart grid" is going to titriate my supply to match my allocation allowed under the 5-year plan -- unless I am a credentialed cadre with paid up dues.

What this system will do is allow the appliances in your house to be contolled by a central authority. Many utilities already do this with hot water heaters and air conditioning units.  The utilities that do it the most are the ones who have not kept up with demand so they are looking at lowering the "peaks.  The utitlities that are the tightest are guess where; CA and the NE. These two areas are the home of the NIMBYs, NAMBYs, and NOPES.

Obama and the Communists want to control applainces in ALL houses so they can halt construction of any power plants, increase prices, and call for the Mid-West and South to send power to thoise areas of the country that refuse to build anything. Except he plans on nobody building anything anywhere.

Can someone please explain to me why voting the Democrats and Obama into power was a good idea?

On the Sunday shows I heard 'em all hinting that BO was gonna turn unemployment around by November, and if it didn't happend, it would be because of Republicans?

Anybody see the Matrix? I swear I'm in the Twilight Zone!

Hahahaha

On Fox they are touting Obama's budget that has "loan guarantees" for 10 new Nuclear Power plants.  They act like this is something new. The 2005 energy bill had the same crap in it.

Loan guarantees are worthless. What is need is a revamp of the legislation to block all the idiots from taking everything to court and halting construction.

There are plans for some new plants but these loan guarantees have nothing to do with it.

168 -- somebody who believes in outlandish conspiracy theories.

The large corporations will likely be capable of weathering the cap and tax initiative; I think that's why they might be supporting it (besides, they probably have something in the works to move production somewhere else, some place without carbon tax???).  This bill really fucks over average people and, again, small business.  Agriculture will get slaughtered by this: the only ag business that will be capable of dealing with the costs are the large, corporate farms (couple that with NAIS costs and where farm subsidies really go and there you have it -- no more family farm).  Of course, all of the cost will be passed along to the consumer (if you thought your bread was getting lighter and costing more now, or your milk was tasting a bit thin and getting outrageously high, just wait).  Oh, and don't even think about having your own hobby farm to be self sufficient (same with energy concerns; read the bill -- no living off the grid for the peons; get on the government matrix beotches).

Saying things like this gets me accused of being a tinfoil hat wearer, but those are some of the potentialities I see in those two particular bills damnit.  Guess that makes me kinda nuts but oh well, never professed to be sane.

lol, too funny -- I see my comments about matrix and whatnot were already stated, but you can forget the being self sufficient Guy -- as said, they are making a bid to close down family farms, even self sufficiency hobby ones, and they already control hunting and fishing (licenses...).  Same with the generator -- won't mean shit if you can't afford to run the bastard, and if you think they'll let you put up your own windmill, well, haha.

I live in the middle of self sufficiency country, and trust me; this has been coming for the past two decades at least (my grandpa would have said longer).

Vic, So the first shots of the revolution won't be on Ft Sumter, they will be dropping the powerlines headed into to cities.

Actually when society collapses ALL the power will go out. Areas that have a strong local government may be able to get power back up and running on a "barter" arrangment, but only for small sections.

When all this happens the federal government will largely be ignored. Anyone sent to enforce "rules" will simply disappear.

93 Beck played a clip of Steve Douchey on Fox saying that they are moving away from being called progressives to being called populists.  He said 65% of the American people define themselves as populists.  Do the American people even know what populism is?

I hate the left.  They are so intellectually dishonest, they think that if they call themselves progressives and not liberals and now populists and not progressives, they can fool the general public and foist their far left agenda on America.  They make the assumption that we are all too stupid to know what's best for us, and that their intellect is far superior to that of  the "booboisee".  They hide behind words and flowery speeches while they systematically dismantle and destroy America.  It's funny too, how the verbiage that they spew never matches their actions.

Your GOP rising star Scott Brown might be the 41st vote against healthcare, but perhaps not be everything you thought he was:

"I already told them (GOP leaders), you know, `I got here with the help of a close group of friends and very little help from anyone down there, so there'll be issues when I'll be with you and there are issues when I won't be with you,'" Brown said Thursday during the half-hour interview.

215 I wouldn't be surprised to see Scott Brown switch over to Independent in the near future to stake out that he is not beholden to either party. You get a dozen or so of those and that's how real realignment gets rolling!

Posted by: toby928 at February 01, 2010 10:37 AM (PD1tk)

217 You think about it, there is a sizable group in the US who would really go for a fiscal conservative/social libertarian direction, the sort of folks who want the government to be efficient at what they are supposed to be doing and butt the hell out of the rest. A growing Independent faction in the Congress who set themselves up as the proponents of this could get some legs under it.

I came here to maock the Detroit news for repeatedly calling the 62 y/o man who put the "rocket" on his back to go sledding the "victim".

But @220 I tend to agree.  Hard liners don't however.  Just looik at the threads for the purity test and such.  Social-cons are still pretty committed to the cause.  They will actually point to the failing of gay marriage with the voters of all states, and to the increasing opposition to abortion that has been measured in the polls that social conservative values are essential to true conservatism, and can be winning issues at the ballot box.

California Red,

At the state level I am in total agreement with you. Fortunately we live in a large nation with no real restrictions on travel (yet!), and can vote with our feet if we feel that a state is poorly managed or legislatively set up in a displeasing way. On the federal level, I think it would do everyone some good to sit back and think just how much we want those bozos nosing around in our lives. After the hellish results of our current foray into central governance, perhaps people will be receptive to a less intrusive, more accountable alternative. I am not an advocate of independent POTUS/VP efforts (Ross Perot, anyone?), but a solid group of politicians in the house/senate that would act in the nation's best interest instead of toadying up on party lines would be a good start. Of course they would have to caucus with one of the main parties in the short term to have any real effect, but you gotta start somewhere!

Posted by: Rightwingdeathbeast at February 01, 2010 11:16 AM (WHdFb)

220 All I'm saying is that any effort at a pro-US realignment would have to start in the congress, and folks like Scott Brown, who recieved marginal support from the GOP, and have some more independent political stances, would be in a good position to capitalize on growing public sentiment against the progressive elements in both parties.

Posted by: Rightwingdeathbeast at February 01, 2010 11:27 AM (WHdFb)

221 In response to Chris Matthews Headline: Cambodian Re-education camps? I think a better example would be the re-education & extermination camps planned by Obama's friend Bill Ayers. The Republican party is trying to define a set of common principles. Perhaps Chris Matthews elsewhere describes how the party is enforcing these principles, but simply stating "this is what we believe" (or "this is what we mean by conservatism") is much different from saying "and now we shall force you to believe it too".
