2 Ethiopian Airline crash off Beirut was an act of Al-Qaeda terror

US officials are also shy of discussing the case in public and admitting the crash was caused by an act of terror. It took place on January 25, shortly after President Barack Obama said “Al-Qaeda has been weakened." In an address to the American people to calm their anxieties after the Nigerian would-be bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab had failed to detonate explosives carried in his underwear.

heh heh - the morning radio show I listen too just played Frank Zappa, "Yellow Snow"!!

Dreamed I was an Eskimo
Frozen wind began to blow
Under my boots and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero...

And my mama cried
And my mama cried
Nanook, a-no-no
Nanook, a-no-no
Don't be a naughty Eskimo
Save your money, don't go to the show

Well I turned around and I said "Oh, oh" Oh
Well I turned around and I said "Oh, oh" Oh
Well I turned around and I said "Ho, Ho"
And the northern lights commenced to glow
And she said, with a tear in her eye
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow"
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow"

As you may know, Philadelphia has been hit by multiple snowstorms in the past week. Today, for what I am told is the first time since the mid-1990s, the university suspended normal operations due to snow, and his colloquium on climate change has been postponed.”

36 "In a recent interview with Eleanor Clift in Newsweek magazine (Dec. 21, 2009), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked about her disagreements with the United States Catholic bishops concerning Church teaching. Speaker Pelosi replied, in part: “I practically mourn this difference of opinion because I feel what I was raised to believe is consistent with what I profess, and that we are all endowed with a free will and a responsibility to answer for our actions. And that women should have the opportunity to exercise their free will.”

Embodied in that statement are some fundamental misconceptions about Catholic teaching on human freedom. These misconceptions are widespread both within the Catholic community and beyond. For this reason I believe it is important for me as Archbishop of San Francisco to make clear what the Catholic Church teaches about free will, conscience, and moral choice.zz'

Around here it really hasn't been a godawfully harsh winter...it's only gotten down around zero twice so far, no 30 below wind chill factors, not an extreme amounbt of snow, no white outs -- so NOAA was correct for here methinks; it's been a relatively average winter.

Still, hardly bolsters the global warming/climate change theory.

Well, here's the deal,

There's at least one eyewitness report, the aircraft came down in a ball of fire.

I seriously doubt, bad weather or pilot error would cause that.

46 Anybody see F&F this AM? They had a Tea Party organizer on. Gretchen asked him if the Tea Party movement was a threat to the GOP. The guy's name was Philips, I believe. He stated that the Tea Party movement wanted the GOP to run true conservatives, not RINO's like McCain, Scuzzyflava, or Kirk, and whenever the GOP supported these liberal Republicans, the Tea Party would encourage a true conservative to run against them as an independent. Philips is a card carrying Republican BTW. I support that strategy, and I hope the GOP leadership can pull their heads out of their collective butts long enough to get with the program whenever they can. There is no advantage to electing someone just because they have an "R" behind their name if they consistently vote against the conservative agenda.

51 I've lived in NC for 3 years after a lifetime in MA. The first year, the state was in emergency drought conditions for months on end (it didn't rain one drop the first two months I lived here.). But there was beautiful weather until Thanksgiving and it stayed mild all winter. This last year we've had several big snowstorms, every reservoir and public lake is well above their normal levels and every other day we set a "record" like "coldest blah blah since 1952..."
The one constant is that the local paper has included a "global warming" nugget in every one of their weather stories. I think they've completely overplayed their hand. Even the most uninformed, scientifically illiterate dolt must be seeing through this crap by now.

No Exit in Sight for U.S. As Fannie, Freddie Flail

[ . . .]

Freddie and its larger rival, Fannie Mae, were among the first big financial institutions to receive massive federal bailouts after the financial crisis hit in 2008. Government officials have been racing to fix bailed-out car makers and banks and are pushing to reshape the financial-services industry. But Fannie and Freddie remain troubled wards of the state, with no blueprints for the future and no clear exit strategy for the government.

Nearly a year and a half after the outbreak of the global economic crisis, many of the problems that contributed to it haven't yet been tamed. The U.S. has no system in place to tackle a failure of its largest financial institutions. Derivatives contracts of the kind that crippled American International Group Inc. still trade in the shadows. And investors remain heavily reliant on the same credit-ratings firms that gave AAA ratings to lousy mortgage securities.

Here we go again . . .

Have no fear Barry will save us all with his same old song and dance

WASHINGTON – The United States is likely to average 95,000 more jobs each month this year, while personal savings will remain high as credit remains tight, according to a White House report released Thursday.

The Council of Economic Advisers also trumpeted the $787 billion economic stimulus package, which it said has saved or created about 2 million jobs.

In a message to Congress, President Barack Obama pointed out that the economy he inherited was losing 700,000 jobs each month.

"I can report that over the past year, this work has begun. In the coming year, this work continues," Obama said in a letter he sent to the Capitol attached to his economic update to lawmakers. "But to understand where we must go in the next year and beyond, it is important to remember where we began one year ago."

64 Starvation by Stimulus: Federal Receipts Are Dropping Faster Than Obama Admin, CBO Can Sharpen Their Pencils at NewsBusters.

“Collections for the first four months of fiscal 2010 have been absolutely dismal compared to fiscal 2009”

ItÂ’s down 12% when the Congressional Budget Office predicted a 7.5% increase. Overestimating income by 20% is failure.

“Whatever you want to call the ongoing fall in receipts (IÂ’m leaning towards “starvation by so-called stimulus“), it should be news, and it virtually isnÂ’t.

Oh, and I almost forgot to tell readers that this yearÂ’s receipts through four months are down about 20% from the first four months of fiscal 2008, during the supposedly economically awful administration of Bush 43.

Hell, I don't care about the people. I just want me some SUN! Cold, gray, day after day. I mean I know it's winter and all, but really, 2 days of Sun is all I ask. And if the temp at the same time were above freezing, well I'm just not sure how I would contain my happiness.

I think spontaneous celebrations would occur all across the city.

Bryan Suits (local a.m. guy) just played a clip of Joe Biden on Larry King last night saying "Iraq is going to be one of the Obama administration'sgreat achievements."  I shrieked out loud, hubby came running to see what was wrong.

Then we need to get out in front of this.  Goddamn this is such bullshit!!!!  Every republican should be screaming about this. But nooooo.  Too busy contemplating the sit down with Obumbles.  Christ.

Heh!  A funny read this a.m. from Noam Neusner, "I'm the President's Trusted Counselor" in the WSJ.  I lol'd.  (A must read for especially you, "somesaystrawmanian")

"Some people get quoted in presidential speeches by writing heartfelt letters to the president about personal loss, or by doing something heroic, like landing a plane in the icy Hudson River.  I just sit in the Oval Office and mouth off to President Barack Obama, one inanity after the next.  And sure enough, my words--word for word, mind you!--show up in his biggest speeches.  Who am I?  SOTUS--Straw man of the United States.  I'm Mr. Obama's most trusted rhetorical friend."

Hi runningrn, don't know if I told ya, but it turned out to be a torn labrum which had also come away from the bone.  Stayed with friends who shanghaid me last week.  I didn't complain too much about them putting themselves out for me like that.

Hey Teej!  I'm glad that you were forcibly extracted from your house.  I didn't think you should be home alone.  Thank God for good friends!  When do you start rehab on your shoulder?  I hope you heal quickly--your age and high fitness level, all work in your favor.  I hope you aren't having too much pain.  Take care, buddy!  (And thanks for the update.)

Olbermann as sane as always, via NewsBusters:

Speaking with Newsweek's Howard Fineman about how conservatives are using the recent snowstorms in the Northeast to refute Al Gore's catastrophic climate claims, the "Countdown" host said, "[L]ife on earth is going to be threatened because the people who recognized and warned about climate change did not just go with that phrase, climate change, and instead chose global warming, opening this opportunity up for Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin to kill us all."

Great article in the paper today:  "Snow Adds ToDrift In Politics" by Elizabeth Williamson and Neil King, Jr.  It quotes Tom Coburn:  "The best thing is we're not passing any legislation, which ultimately will save the government a lot of money."

"Wednesday's snowfall, the fourth in two weeks, topped off what's now the nastiest Washington winter on record--55.6 inches of snow for the season so far--and  one of its foulest political seasons too.

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, joined Wednesday in 'community shoveling' in the alley behind the conservative groups downtown headquarters.  'Think about it...a government which can't plow the streeets and can't fix the potholes wants to tell us how our toilets should flush, what size cars we should drive and whether we should have paper or plastic when we buy our groceries,' he said.  Of the communitarian digout--which some dubbed 'snowsocialism'--he noted 'That's voluntary.'

The daughter and grandchildren of Oklahoma Republican James Inhofe, the Senate's most outspoken climate-change skeptic built an igloo a snowball's throw away from the Capitol bearing signs saying 'Al Gore's New Home' and 'Honk if you [heart] Global Warming.

The storm has coughed up a host of nicknames--snowmadeddon, snowpocalypse, tsnonami, snoverkill, snowoverit, snOMG.  It has also spawned a blizzard of anti-stiumulus snipes, like how Washington has finally found the ultimate shovel-ready project.

90 Hi Jewells, my friend is already trying to talk me into coming back and doing it again next year but I think I'm gonna pass.  I had a blast but Gary (the guy who shanghaid me) is talking about putting the old three piece group we had in the 90's back together again.  If you've listened to True North's stuff (click on 'teej') you'll understand why I'd rather be able to do that.  Gary's the lead singer and does most of the songwriting.  Playing with him and Steve, well, there's only one thing better IYKWIMAITYD.

96 The Piedmont story may represent some of the bad government management we've had in California, but a $1M overrun, averaging out to about $3500 per household, is not such a huge deal there. Piedmont is a very wealthy community, like you New Yorkers' Westchester County or Forest Hills Gardens maybe. There are some freaking ginormous mansions there, and even the small houses in the neighborhood are big. $1M might buy you a fixer-upper on the outskirts. So $3500 is not even a mortgage payment for those folks.

Yes all new rosy economic numbers.

Has anyone noticed how much we now resemble the 1950s vinatge Soviet Union?  The government releases new "good" news every week as more and more people are mired in poverty and squalor.

Komrads rejoice! The numbers are in for the latest 5 year plan and all is well. The workers are well fed, healthy, and happy.  So get ready for the next plan starting next week. Things will be even better.

The problem, it was all lies; just like now.  You can not believe a single damn thing anyone in this adm says.

Heh, douchette on douche violence:

A former aide to John Edwards says the two-time presidential candidate's wife has threatened to sue him for contributing to the downfall of their marriage.

Andrew Young said Wednesday that Elizabeth Edwards has threatened an "alienation of affection" lawsuit. Young said he had anticipated that the Edwards family would come after him following his book about the candidate's affair.
