Oh. And Hawkins' Latest Conservative Blog Poll is Up: He asked some of the same questions as a recent DKos poll of conservative voters that made national news. You can probably figure my responses.

I will be seeing this on opening night. Unless I can find a way to an advance screening. Or murder someone else with a way to an advance screening. Rly. I know, I know, the plot is very WYSIWYG. Don't care. It's got Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez. And Giovanni Ribisi. And Zoe Saldana (as an alien).

All I care about is winning big in 2010. While it's great to be rid of that little dunce, Patrick Kennedy, it hurts us in 2010.

The more shitheel Democrats that dropout of races hurt us in
November. And if socialized health care and Cap & Trade are dead, that's not good, either.

31

Well, for any interested in the fallout from the Medina/Beck interview, I'll repost my response to this morning's KLIF show:

And now the morning guy on KLIF took the same tack as the afternoon guy did yesterday.  "Beck set Medina up, is in a secret cabal with Perry and Palin, it was an unfair question to ask of Medina, it was sexist , Beck was too quick to label her a truther, etc."

This is quite disturbing.  Medina clearly danced around her first response the question of whether she was a truther, and Beck threw her a lifeline by clarifying and specifying his question, "Do you think the Federal government was complicit in bringing down the towers?"  And she still couldn't bring herself to say no.  This wasn't a simple "Oops, that was a bad answer, let me try again," or "I thought you were referring to whether the government did everything it could to prevent 9/11."  She doubled down on her response that there were "unanswered questions" and "missing evidence" to arrive at a reasonable conclusion about whether the government was complicit in bringing down the towers.

Now, if you want to make the case that's a valid response for a Republican candidate, that's one thing.  But to suggest this was a Gotcha question that was unfair or too difficult for a yes/no answer is nonsense.

Crap, I'm disappointed.  And no, neither Perry nor Hutchison has my vote now.  I'll do a write in for "Hypothetical Conservative Candidate" before I vote for either of those political vermin.

Oh, and if the thread is hijacked by Ronulans, I swear I won't bring the topic up in any other thread.

WASHINGTON – Attorney General Eric Holder is leaving open the possibility of trying professed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed before a military commission instead of the civilian trial originally planned for New York City.

"At the end of the day, wherever this case is tried, in whatever forum, what we have to ensure is that it's done as transparently as possible and with adherence to all the rules," Holder told The Washington Post in an interview published in Friday's editions. "If we do that, I'm not sure the location or even the forum is as important as what the world sees in that proceeding."

Really?

Happy Friday all.

Michelle Malkin has some things to say about medical innovation, how ObamaCare hurts, and Bill Clinton.  bamo:

“Best wishes for the former president’s recovery. Now, a timely reminder: Stents don’t grow on trees. They were not created, developed, marketed, or sold by government bureaucrats and lawmakers. One of the nation’s top stent manufacturers, Boston Scientific, has weighed in on the Democrats’ proposed massive taxes on medical device makers: 'Boston Scientific Corp (BSX.N) warned on Tuesday that a proposed tax in the U.S. health care reform bill that cleared the Senate Finance Committee last week could have serious consequences for the company, including job losses.' A teachable moment: Taxing innovation in the name of “health care reform” has consequences.”

What I don't understand about this Medina dust-up is how anyone other than a truther can defend her on this answer. What if she had been rumored as a Holocaust denier, Beck had asked her questions along this line, and she gave the same type of answer? No one would come forward and claim that she was being picked on, or set up, or that this wasn't an issue for the governor of Texas. So why do seemingly rational people want to carry water for her?

Some may well be dissatisfied with the choice between Perry and Hutchison, but this answer reveals that Medina is either off her rocker or is showing bad judgment by playing to a portion of her base that is off its collective rocker. Either of those options renders her unqualified to hold political office.

63

What happened to developing critical thinking skills in our kids so that they know BS when they see  it?

Not to get too conspiratorial here, but logic and critical thinking skills are generally incompatible with slavery. It's also a problem that the fundamental principles are incorrect, so even if the kids could think critically they'd be starting from a fallacy and thus come to a flawed conclusion.

My public education plan would be to make every school in the state a charter school and have the state's contribution follow the child, whether that be to a "private" school or to a "public" school. No distinction between religious or non-religious, that would be the parents' decision. I'd also eliminate the state's monopoly on teacher qualifications, eliminate local taxes for school operations for those with no children in "public" schools, and open the state up completely for any school to operate so long as enough students pass an annual mandatory exam. Any school that fails would be decertified and no longer receive state funds. There would be no state funds for capital expenses, school governing bodies would be responsible for raising those. The state would no longer pay the teachers as that would be the responsibility of the school governing body as well. I would also nullify any federal interference in my state's schools, and I would bet that within 20 years the test scores would go through the roof.

I will now put down my crackpipe.

I don't believe that holds true for this district. I am in his district and it is one of those that has been gerrymandered to concentrate "Democrats" so that the Republicans will fare better elsewhere.

What happened to developing critical thinking skills in our kids so that they know BS when they see  it?

Seriously though, the problem is that there's the BS that other people believe, and the stuff we believe that others mistakenly think is BS.  The Medina thing is a good example.  Neither KLIF hosts have said (as far as I know) that they think trutherism is a valid or even acceptable theory until yesterday afternoon.  But for the sake of "their" candidate, and political expediency, they'll overlook her trutherism just this one time and pretend it's not a problem.  The next time they have to overlook it will be easier.  And as long as you're overlooking trutherism, why not overlook this other conspiracy theory over here?  There's no proof it didn't happen, after all.  And so on, and so on.

It's no big thing to think critically about things you disagree with.  The real talent is in thinking critically about something you already agree with.  Of course, then there are the folks that went to public school that couldn't think their way out of a wet tissue, but presumably they all burn to death trying to water their flowers or something.  Or would, if the Nanny weren't there to look after them.

The responses to question #8 were encouraging.

The current narrative by leftists and their supporters in the media and academia is to redefine "socialism".  The ultimate goal is to lump those who correctly use the label in with birthers and troooofers.  Obviously these guys know what a real socialist looks is and understand that, while accurate, it's not an acceptable label to have over on this side of the pond.

Glad to see the media hasn't totally controlled this narrative.

Of course, then there are the folks that went to public school that couldn't think their way out of a wet tissue, but presumably they all burn to death trying to water their flowers or something.  Or would, if the Nanny weren't there to look after them.

I say this as a public school graduate, btw.  And somewhat tongue-in-cheek.  My english and math skills were gained through tutors my parents paid for, because those skills were so atrocious that even my sceechingly liberal parents couldn't pretend the school was doing a good job.

84 I'm not a big conspiracy guy either, but the last few years just really don't make sense in a lot of ways.  One that I still wonder about is $4+ gas at the end of Bush's term, I just don't see the demand drop that much nor the geopolitical landscape stabilized enough to justify a 40% or better decrease in price.

The price of oil did hit $140.  However, the price of gasoline in the United States is largely connected to supply, demand, and the stupid fuel formulas that States require forcing a single refinery to produce 30 different fuel formulas to satisfy the successful lobbying efforts of environmental groups that have no science to back up their support for chemical additives to lower exhaust.

Mrs Hate and I used to scream at the elder Hatette's public highschool English teachers that she couldn't put together a coherent sentence and they told us she was one of their better students.  What saved her was during her freshman year at college (which was nutty in its own way but they understood some basic things) and she called up upset that she'd been urged to go see a tutor.  We ordered her to do that and it was amazing what a few short sessions were able to accomplish to reverse the miserable failure of years of witless garbage.

130 Interesting to see how many of the poll respondants appear to go right along with the narratives from the MSM. I remember 1999 and 2000, pre-9-11, when most conservatives thought that Islam was a peaceful religion that had been hi-jacked by extremists, which was the same narrative promoted by the MSM. Anyone who disagreed with you was nuts or worse. Remember when conservatives thought global warming wasn't about the bad scientific data, it was about the repressive legislation being proposed and enacted? Anyone who disagreed with you was nuts or worse. Those are just a couple of examples. The topics and issues have changed, somewhat, but the same dynamics are in play. As an aside: Are you hoping for a Republican sweep in the mid-terms? Be careful what you ask for. You just might get it. ...remember 2004 and 2006. How'd that work out for ya? Remember 6 million conservatives staying home in 2008 in order to 'teach the Republicans a lesson.' (Not to mention Michael Steele, who thinks that the entire Republican base is racist because they don't like him.) You think the T.E.A. Party is the answer to all of your problems? Guess what? More than half of the T.E.A. Partiers aren't conservative Republicans. Another example of confused, magical thinking: fiscal responsibility is a good thing...unless it's about your own personal lack of the same. (mortgage, car payment, credit cards, student loans, vacations, furniture, home improvement, toys in the backyard, vacations.) You think that all of the nations' economic problems will vanish if the government embraces fiscal responsibility, not even considering that your personal credit-driven lifestyles are a part of the problem. Of course, the progressive narrative is even more incoherent. While conservatives may be hypocrites, to accept the progressive agenda is to embrace crazy town.

I doubt that's what was going on here, but there is a remote possibility that a handful of teachers were working on similar things.

153 Paris Paramus asked about this on the headline thread.  I did a little research.  The dem lost but now there is this:  "Suffolk County  election officials are preparing to recanvass all votes in the 3rd Assembly District. A special election there left two candidates divided by fewer than 200 votes.

State Elections spokesman John Conklin says the recanvass is the first step in certifying a winner. Officials also have to count up to 931 absentee ballots issued in the race. Absentee ballots are due back within seven days of TuesdayÂ’s election.

With all districts reporting, Republican Dean Murray leads Democrat Lauren Thoden, 4,186-4,000.

The Assembly seat covering part of SuffolkÂ’s South Shore and part of Fire Island was open because incumbent Patricia Eddington was elected Brookhaven town clerk in November. Thoden worked on EddingtonÂ’s staff.

Election officials were unavailable Wednesday because of a snowstorm."

The republican was winning by a much wider margin.  Two days after the election they were saying only 400 plus absentee ballots.  Now it has doubled.  The republican is really going against the machine.  Wonder if they are going to steal this one back while they think no one is watching?  I am searching for the articles from the days after the election.  I posted about it on here.  The other special election in the sister county the republican won, three to one or something like that.  The dems counted the voters in the Suffolk election but didn't count them in the Nassau election which I think means that the dems didn't get off the couch.  Peter King, according to my liberal friends, contacted all the republicans and conservatives in both counties via email numerous times urging them to go out to vote.

The only reason I went to Hawkin's site was to see what got your panties in a wad. Turns out, it was about 5 seconds of my life I'll never get back.

If your blog is among the "dozens of other, better written, more wide-ranging, better trafficked blogs who aren't in the "kool kids klub", then let it stand on its own merit instead of throwing a fucking hissy fit on here.

There's lots of bullshit on the various blogs and news sites I visit everyday that have at least some unnewsworthy, whogivesafuck shit on the pages. I skip them and go on to something with more substance.

Edited to add:

That describes the bulk of the MSM, as well.

162 Heh. Here. Hold muh beer and watch this!* Sockpuppets are for fools who have little to say, living in fear of themselves and other men. Slaves to their emotions and desires. Irrational, unstable and irreverent to the point of insanity. (*Pay attention to the TEA Party Express this week. Let it simmer for about three to six months...)

163 SFC MAC, well done for #168.

164 I care because there is this overweening, presumptuous, bullshit elitist crap where some blogs (rwn, for one) seem to think they are the arbiter of what blogs are worthy and which aren't and we get treated to fuck-all polls like that one where we are treated to the opinions of the denizens of the koolkidsklub, then we get bludgeoned over the head by leftists about what troglodytes the right contains because this group is somehow representative of us. It's not. rwn is about on the level of world news daily and a disgrace to the label "right wing". Rightwingnut would be more like it. you have no problem with them putting their opinion out there as little gods, but I can't comment in a comment thread? You are just a fucking retard, to quote Rahm.
