6 Mortality is never far from my mind.
Though once embraced, makes life sweeter, not darker.
True enough. I doubt, however, that the news that you would live 1000 years would cause depression.

But first some background. In the Dollar Crisis, published
in 2003, Duncan explained how the collapse of the Bretton Woods system
in 1973 was always going to lead to a global financial crisis due to the
trade imbalances it encouraged and created. Based on the premise,
Duncan successfully predicted the subprime problem, the downfall of
government sponsored agencies as well as the banking crisis (and related
bailouts) we’ve all — seven years on — come to know and love.
In Duncan’s words, the collapse of Bretton Woods represented the moment “capitalism became corrupted by government debt”. From that point on “US policymakers abandoned the core principles of economic orthodoxy: balanced government budgets and sound money”.

From the administration that never stops patting itself on the back
Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The Obama administration is marking the one-year anniversary of economic stimulus legislation with efforts to show the measure sparked economic growth and curbed rising unemployment.
In the first annual report on the legislation, Vice President Joe Biden wrote that the government spending “halted an economic freefall.” Administration officials are fanning out across the nation this week to more than 35 cities to tout the measure’s success.
“We’ve already made the largest investment in clean energy in history,” spending that is “expected to create more than 700,000 jobs across America,” Obama said yesterday at a union hall in Lanham, Maryland.

I see many here think Amy Bishop won't get death in 'Bama. I disagree. Maybe we should have a pool?
Well Maddog, on the previous thread I took a slightly different stance. many were saying she would get the juice sure thing because she was now in a Southern town where more common sense prevails.
My position is that Hintsville is not like most Southern towns. It is a high tech city with a large influx of people from all over the country. Think "research triangle" in NC.
The one thing that may mitigate that is a tendancy of the "I'm smarter than you rednecks" crowd to try to avoid jury duty.
I'm sure the defense attorney will go for the insanety defence. That normally doesn't work very well in the South because even if they are shown to be bug-fk crazy violent people will vote to fry them because they want to be assured that they NEVER are back on the street again.
Of course, the liberal courts now try to get around that by overriding the jury. But, they have done that in the past by applying the old "low IQ" standard. That will not work in this case so they will have to hunt for some more "pnenumbras".
This is a toss-up in my opinion.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – White House economic adviser Christina Romer said on Wednesday that the U.S. employment picture was stable, with job growth expected by spring.
"Right now the employment numbers look basically stable," Romer said days after the U.S. jobless rate for January fell to a five-month low of 9.7 percent, just below the psychologically important 10 percent mark.
"We think we're going to see positive job growth by spring," she told ABC.
And if not they'll just make the numbers up.

According to Rasmussen, Obama has rallied 6 points in approval over the last 2 days and now stands at 50/50.
Does anyone know of anything Obama has done in the last 2 days that would account for such a surge?
** It is inexplicable to me that only 36% of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing on the economy (by far #1 issue), but 50% approve of his job overall. What this tells me is that people think Obama is a swell guy personally but they hate his policies.
Just the opposite was true of Bush. More people approved of his policies than approved of him.
I think this can be tied back to the a few things - people are afraid of being called "racist" if they disapprove of Obama. Also, the meme in the MSM has been Obama = Smart, Bush = Dumb, and how can anyone really be against smart? Also, when Obama speaks, he just sounds so damned reasonable even though he is completely full of shit.

"Driven in part by the desire to locate the luge and bobsled track for the 2010 Vancouver Games in a high-traffic tourist area with cold temperatures, planners chose a valley at Whistler resort that was steeper and narrower than sites of previous Olympic tracks, according to press reports and interviews with those involved.
The result was a track whose speeds marked a quantum leap in a sport where even small increases require big adjustments from the athletes. After trials of the track in 2008, the course's German designer says he told the Vancouver Games' organizers and the international luge and bobsledding governing bodies that he was revising the track's projected luge speed upward by 5.5%—to 96 miles an hour—nearly nine miles an hour faster than the standing 2000 world speed record."

As a taxpayer, I'd just as soon they did away with the death penalty. We end up paying for all of the endless appeals. In Pennsylvania they can't even stick a needle in a cop-killer like Mumia, and this is like 20 some odd years later. Just make the terms so long there's no hope for parole and let all the killers mingle together every day in a 100 X 100 foot area with a ten foot high barbed wire fence, for about an hour. Unsupervised.
Appeals should be limited to 3. Execution should cost approximately $50 bucks ( executioner's fee). With one each 9 mm cartridge tossed in by the government. or more economical, a rope. A rope is biodegradable, and reusable.

On this day in history in 1801 the U.S. had a breif respite from the actions of the big government liberals when Thomas Jefferson was elected president by the House of Representatives.
The next 8 years werre probably the best this country, as a nation, ever had. We have gone way down hill since then.

Here is exactly what the dullards said:
"The Number 2 receiver of money is the RNC"
Now why would they bother to skip the number one receiver of funds to shout about the number 2 receiver? The number one receiver was CHALRES RANGEL. They also failed to mention he was a DEMOCRAT. However they listed three Republicans by party first, then name.
The bias is STUNNING

"Skeletons of Wind Energy" at Moonbattery
"California's wind farms -- then comprising about 80% of the world's wind generation capacity -- ceased to generate much more quickly than Kamaoa. In the best wind spots on earth, over 14,000 turbines were simply abandoned. Spinning, post-industrial junk which generates nothing but bird kills."

And wouldn't a quick fix have been some kind of bird protection screen?
My understanding is that those windfarms are operating now. The bird issue was resolved by making the blade design so that they rotate much slower.
The last I heard what the the green idiots were blocking was a solar array in the desert. They were blocking it based on the environmental impact of the solar collectors and the high voltage lines from the array to the grid.
This is proof positive that they really don't give a shit about the environment and they just want to destroy the U.S. and all Western governments.
This is the anarchist side of the "green" movement, as opposed to the Gaia side and the watermellon side.

The metal they used to build those windmills came from where? And the energy to refine it, and create the fiberglass blades, and truck all the parts out from the pier where they landed after being shipped from China?
I'm pretty sure people who shill for large-scale electricity generation from wind took one science class, in ninth grade, and showed up stoned when they bothered to show up at all.

As a Catholic, one of the things I'll be repenting for is living in a civilization that treats this astonishing planet as something to be used rather than conserved.
Matthew 25, foolish virgin. Jesus mentions fuel oil once: he says, bring enough.
