Guess what "unexpectedly" increased? But don't worry there's a reason
WASHINGTON – The number of new claims for unemployment benefits jumped unexpectedly last week as heavy snows led to higher layoffs.
In addition, many state agencies in the mid-Atlantic and New England regions that process the claims were closed due to the storms and are now clearing out backlogs, a Labor Department analyst said.
Still, the increase is likely to amplify concerns that the job market is weakening, potentially slowing the economic recovery.
So unemployment unexpectedly rose due to the snow global warming climate change.

From the dirt-stealing Radish's link:
A pacifist, she thinks there should be no military presence in Central New York.
I have little patience for pacifists. I half remember George Orwell's quote about pacifism in WWII only benefiting the Axis.
While she supports a military for the defense of this country, she is concerned that drones allow the United States to “increase the militarization of our response to conflict.”
Yes because all conflict can be solved by sitting everyone down at a table and talking through it... *rolls eyes*.

I just read it. Irony is that they used to make snide comments about us selling stuff to people in the past. Here they are selling military equipment to the Russians that will make it easier to invade countries on the coast of the Black Sea like Georgia. If Russia had continued to act like a repsonsible European country it wouoldn't be so bad but they are reverting to their old ways in the cold war.
They were also prime movers in the trading with Saddam, even selling him stuff for manufacturing chemical and biologicals. Yes, it was no wonder they blocked every effort to establish stronger sanctions against Iraq. They were all over the oil for food scam.
Yes, they would sell their Mother to the Devil if it would help their balance of payments and give their government supported socialist industry some help. Hell, until Obama and the Democrats got in office they couldn't complete against any honest industry.

The Fox News website is puking up the snowployment angle, too.
Fox has been moving steadily to the left for the past several months. This is on top of the Obama shift to the left when he got in office.
I have got to where I have quit watching them at all anymore except when I am eating breakfast in the morning. Even then, unless it is a full breakfast I still don't watch them.
I am wondering if they are shifting because of the partnership with the Saudies they are forging?

WASHINGTON – With President Barack Obama's health care overhaul in limbo, Americans' fears about its effect on them eased in January, according to a poll released as the president tries to revive sweeping Democratic legislation.
The monthly poll from the nonpartisan Robert Wood Johnson Foundation also found that three-fourths of Americans still think it's important that Obama include health care reform in addressing the nation's economic crisis — even if many have misgivings.
"Job numbers continue to lag and nearly a quarter of Americans are still concerned they might lose coverage," said Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president of the foundation, a philanthropic and research organization that supports health care reform.
The nonpartisan foundation that supports healthcare reform found that more people want Barry care. Imagine that.

1.My understanding of the word pacifist was that they were opposed to any use of military force.
2. She seems to be expressing opposition to policies and weapons systems that enable the US to project military force, particularly by expeditionary forces. It should be noted that she does so very badly.

Screw the pacifists. Why do I get the feeling that if all went to the proverbial satanic handbasket the pacifists would be the first ones to start strealing and eating small children?
Screw France too. While I know some very worthy Frenchmen (who deserve a better country, imho), France the country has always been a bit of a whore. There are times when I think we should have just let Germany continue to play the drunken farmboy to France's coyote ugly chick and let them have her -- because we're givers that way. Maybe divided France into two (no, three!) different countries and put the French who still had some morals and some grit into one (which we would defend) and the rest could go to Germany -- have fun with that one Fritz!.
*yes, I really am not espousing the above; just some fanciful and wishful thinking

Pierre Laval (28 June 1883 – 15 October 1945) was a French politician. He was four times President of the council of ministers of the Third Republic, twice consecutively. Following France's Armistice with Germany in 1940, he served twice in the Vichy Regime as head of government. After Liberation (1945), he was arrested, found guilty of high treason, and executed by firing squad.

Coburn: Extortion in the health care system.
Couldn'tve said it better myself.
It sure beats the "tort reform" narrative.

It's not like anyone in the media will research them before they play them over and over to make sure everyone learns "Republicans are meanies who want Jesus' baby to die."

Hey Congress, listen up! In case you haven't noticed, the people interested in politics these days are a hell of a lot more sophisticated than when you were a gopher in the State legislature. Spare us the Lifetime movies, you patronixing drama queens.

It is, but you know the Dems won't say, "You're right...let's give 'em beans and rice and canned vegetables." They'll come back with a multi-trillion-dollar plan for hot meals delivered from community kitchens, and restrictions on people who choose to purchase chips and pop with money they earned themselves.

the second largest FOX stakeholder is a Saudi prince, the same one who Rudy told to eff off right after WTC attacks.
This guy is tight with Murdoch's son who is a definite lefty.
When the muslim youth riots were happenning in France, the crawl at the bottom of the screen changed from "muslim youth riots occurring in Paris", to just plain old "youth riots occurring..." The Saudi prince took credit for this change in the writing.
I heard this all on Jerry Doyle radio show last night, a woman named Diane West was the guest, she wrote an article about it, something about Should Fox News now be considered a Saudi agent?

Speaking from experience, I remember the pre-food-stamp days with basic commodities. The Canned Meat, Cheese Food, and Dry Potato Flakes were excellent incentives for Mom to get off welfare.

You might also want to look at the discussion of the matter in John Ringo's _The Last Centurion_ regarding how the elites in the middle east slant the news we see.
And when you stop and think about it, who does Fox News have? Bill O'Reilly, who plays a conservative on TV, but isn't, Shep Smith, who could be traded to CNN for Lou Dobbs and a shortstop to be named later... they've got Hannity, who's ineffective and I can't stand, and Glenn Beck, who sometimes seems more concerned with making sure we don't vote republican than doing anything to thwart the Democrats.
(And let's face facts... there are a lot more non-squish conservatives in the republican party than there are in the democrat party; I'm as dissatisfied with the squishes as anyone, but sometimes Beck sounds like he's trying to turn their existance into a democrat advantage).
Who does that leave at Fox? Well, there's Greta and Red Eye on at 3 in the morning or whenever it is. And that's supposed to make them The Conservative Network?

I turned it on for about 60 seconds while eating lunch. The jugeared jackass was speaking. I turned it off. I can no longer even stand to hear his voice and listening to his rhetoric is a collosal waste of time because every time he opens his yammering mouth a lie spews forth.
The only thing that concerns me about this PR stunt is whether or not the RINOs on the Republican side are going to cave or not based on some useless beard. And if they do cave, how far they are going to cave.
No I have to take that back. As this stands right now, ANY cave at all will result in the ultimate nationilization of all healthcare within 10 years. That what the commie-Ds want. It has been thir goal since FDR was president.

I stopped watching all the talking heads shows, including Fox, long ago. There was too much food fighting and not a lot of dissemination of useful information.
Added to which their marquee names were becoming All About Themselves.
Agree with you about Hannity, Beck and Greta. My friend tells me that Judge Napolitano has a good show.

Turns out it was none other than Rep. Alan Grayson, the Florida Democrat who has made his reputation by going after military contractors. Irony alert! Grayson spokesman Todd Jurkowski confirmed that Grayson was spirited out of the country on a Xe helicopter, and offered this statement to Schulman: “The flight was arranged through the State Department … The congressman did not know, and frankly did not care, who owned the plane.”

Jewells, here you go:
Pierogi: 4 eggs, small container (or about 8 oz. of sour cream), 8 cups of flour, pinch of salt (half a teaspoon), warm water; mix the eggs, sour cream, and salt, sift in the flour and warm water. You want the dough to be velvety, so be careful adding the water. Put it out on a floured board and knead it until it's smooth, then roll it out to about quarter inch thickness (half again as thin is best, but start with 1/4 inch), take a glass (or biscuit cutter) and make the rounds, cover them so they don't dry out if you made the dough first; was paper works pretty well. The key is to get the dough to bake up light and fluffy and to not have the filling get runny -- it takes some practice, but it isn't that hard.
Filling: Saute 1/2 lb. of chopped bacon, about a cup of chopped mushrooms, a small chopped onion, when it's done (onions and mushrooms are tender), add a 14 oz. jar of saurkraut (but drain it really well first! don't use runny saurkraut) and a couple of tablespoons of sour cream, salt and pepper. I like to drain the bacon and mushrooms afterwards, so it isn't as greasy, before putting in the saurkraut; I think you could probably leave the bacon out if you wanted to.
or 4-6 cups of cold mashed potatoes mixed with a pound of shredded Cheddar cheese
or (my favorite) a quart of blueberries or pitted cherries mixed with 3 tablespoons of softened cream cheese (or ricotta that's been drained -- doesn't take much, and it's better than cottage cheese; this is my own invention to this) and a tablespoon of honey; if it's still a bit watery put a couple of tablespoons of plain bread crumbs in it to soak up the juice.
Borscht: 4 cups of water, 3 cups of beef stock (or chicken or veggie -- you pick what you like; I like beef stock low sodium); 1 medium size chopped carrot, 1/2 chopped pepper (optional -- I don't like it in my borscht, but great grandma did, meh, whatever you like), half a stalk of celery chopped, 1 can of sliced beets (or better yet, use a couple of small fresh ones, chopped), 2 cans of peeled, diced tomatoes, a small onion chopped, a teaspoon or tablespoon of garlic (another addition I made, depends on how much you like garlic as to what you put) a small cabbage shred it up pretty fine, 2 potatoes or 3 small ones diced, about a tablespoon of salt, third cup of butter, some sausage (you can use braised beef shanks, but I'm lazy and like to use two kielbasa, sliced up), sour cream, a generous tablespoon of dill weed, a 1/2 teaspoon of paprika, salt and pepper
Put everything in the soup pot with the water and stock except the cabbage, kielbasa, tomato, onion, garlic, sour cream, and seasonings. Bring to a boil for about 15 minutes and then turn down to simmer -- make sure the veggies are just about tender. In a skillet take the butter and saute the onion until tender (add the kielbasa right at the end so it doesn't overcook but gets the flavor out of it into the pan), then turn down to simmer and add the tomato, garlic and cabbage (better use a big skillet), simmer until the cabbage is almost tender but not droopy, add salt and pepper. Turn off and let it cool a bit. Add that to the soup pot, bring it to a low boil, let it go for about 5 - 10 minutes, then turn off heat and stir in paprika and dill. Serve it with sour cream. (Great grandma and co. also used to stir in about 1/2 c. of room temp heavy cream when it was somewhat cooled off enough, but that's a heart attack in a bowl if you ask me.
Hope these work for you and you like it!

My God, that article in the sidebar about the theatre manager telling some complaining customer to fuck off is ball dippingly funny.
It is a terrible business practice, but it is comedy gold. Like it was written for an edgy movie commedy.
Seriously, the sidebar link headline doesn't do justice as to how awesome that e-mail exchange is. Like something out of ace, when he is in a bad mood, or when some one tells JackStraw just how fuckin' boring his epic poetry is.
