Re sidebar story:stupidass Congressman Markey: Climate Change so dangerous nuclear power plants must not be built because they'll be destroyed by assorted catastrophes. That's Markey of the Waxman-Market Cap and Trade Bill! [ArthurK]
Reading that article from NRO it makes you wonder just how stupid Markey is. And in case you have an idea that perhaps NRO has taken his stuff out of context or edited it to make him look even more stupid I have personally seen stuff from him equally as stupid. He is a rabid anti-nuke idiot and he does not care how stupid he looks in his arguments.
After 9-11 he sent a letter direct from his office to the operating Nuclear Power plants throughout the country. That, in itself, should tell you something about this idiot. No congressman has ANY authority to do that. I was forwarded a copy of the letter for comment on a potential response with the notation that most likely we were going to ignore the letter.
In any case what he wanted was engineering level proof that a spent fuel cask used to transport spent fuel could withstand the effects of being covered in 400,000 gal (lbs? Memory here) of jet fuel that had been set on fire.
My response (from an operations standpoint) was what he was describing was physically impossible unless we started transporting the cask inside a huge tank filled with jet fuel. With the cask sitting on a train car or a flat bed semi you can not immerse it in fuel. Anyone above the age of 6 should be able to see that easily.
Most sane people would have been embarrassed to send out a letter such as that. But as we have said many times, idiot libtards can not be embarrassed.

Sorry to drag this from the previous thread but I don't know why she would do this to intimidate exactly 4 holdouts (2 maybe and 2 stupak).
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is asking all female Democratic Members to attend a hastily called meeting Wednesday morning but isnÂ’t saying what the meeting is about.
At a guess, it may be the meeting where she admits that she doesnÂ’t have the votes for the bill without an abortion ban to lure in Bart StupakÂ’s coalition.

DemonPiss will not fool the voters and most sane reps know this. Nanzi will NOT get the votes she needs. Keep calling your reps.
Better - go to your reps office. If they're in DC & you can't make it, go to his local office. Talk to someone on the staff. Not the receptionist. They don't count.

Heck one of the people I work with wrote a nice letter and we all signed it. It was a very benign letter that all of us, dems, libs, republicans, conservatives, independents could agree on. It basically said "time to start over and work together as you are making a class of kindergartners look savvy. " He had it faxed to over a hundred congressmen and women and it was sent the day before yesterday and the only proof we have that they received it is the fax machine says it went through,,,in other words....no response.

This constant HC House of Reps whip count is indicative of how the Dems mean to ram this thing through by any means possible. Look at them. Waiting for the quarter to land on its edge.. It's fucking ridiculous and sad. The procedure for this bills (potential) passage is going to put A LOT of voters off come November.
Something THIS important should not have to wait for the most opportune moment in an otherwise MOST inopportune environment. The public has rejected this, and poll after poll proves it.
This whole procedure stink to high heaven and the Dems KNOW IT. They held their town halls and we told them to get bent, but instead of taking us seriously, they claim we were paid to be there by teh evul corps.
If they had one single poll they could point to, they would, but they don't so they CAN'T.

Vic - I use an LED rope light (~ $16 for 6ft) to get even lighting across my desk - I expect it to outlive me.
I looked in to the LED bulbs. I did not get one for two reasons, one they are so damn expensive and two; we have a lot of voltage surges here from lightning strikes. One hit from lightning would undo any possible savings from getting an LED vs other kinds.

They give off 20-30% less light (measured in lumens) than the "equivalent" incandescent. Eco-wackos lie, big shock there.

I was about to ask if you have regular voltage surges -- hard to believe you go through Edison bulbs that quickly. Have a client who was chugging through Edisons...but her hi-hat's were no prob...spikes in her power were frying the Ed's (120v bulbs), bu not touching the hi-hats (130v bulbs).

Maybe it depends on the university. I have a good friend who had his Christmas lights taken down with the excuse of a fire hazard. They also made him take his Christmas tree down and take off the lights. So, instead they made a Christmas tree out of hundreds of green and red beer cans. Engineers are creative.

The only thing banned is halogen lights.
We had one of those 300W halogen pole lamps here in the living room. It kept eating bulbs and switches as fast as we could replace them. I finally threw it out and got two regular table lights which we use 100W (rated) CFLs in each.

Vic, you're rabble-rousing. It's a fun hobby.
Because new incandescent bulbs, which by statute have no future, are now made by the cheapest means available, we should all follow you over the cliff with Hg twisties -- all made in China by the cheapest means available? That's too much, really.
Buy one good bulb, for Christ's sake. You're crapping out pretty thin gruel.
On the happy front, my grower's supply catalogue reveals that dimmable CFL's are now available at a believable $5+ each. I will not be throwing away the six 88W's in my Milanese chandelier until they blow out, thank you very much. It's been up there 20 years and I has used up exactly one bulb.
I spent thousands extra to build fluorescent perimeter lighting into all my main rooms, just to be a good scout. I sincerely wish the industry had them all up their respective asses. Hard and expensive to clean or change, weird colors, don't come on simultaneously, sensitive to heat and humidity. What a green rube I was. Every green miracle is an expensive failure. They're con artists.
