We all saw the crap statements being loaded out yesterday from various Republicans, some known RINOs and other not. A lot of us were disappointed with some of the statements, especially coming on the heals of statements from Republican leadership in the House that if the Dems used their cram-down no compromise methods on healthscam that the republicans would fight everything in the House for the rest of the year.
The feeling was that the age of comity was over since the Democraps did not believe in it, then why should the Republicans unilaterally surrender? Well here is some more from those who do not think that the age of comity is over and that Republicans should continue to bend over and “ask for another”. (assuming that this is not a pack of lies from the WSJ)
From the WSJ
Republicans Begin Strategy Rethink
Highlights and gems from this wonderful piece:
The Obama administration's passage of a sweeping health-care revamp has scrambled Republicans' strategic calculations on Capitol Hill, forcing the GOP to decide whether to maintain its largely unified opposition to Democratic proposals.
That was the lead. What happened to the “we will fight everything”?
On key pieces of legislation, including a revamp of financial rules and a rewrite of the No Child Left Behind education law, some Republicans are either explicitly on board or could soon be so. For most of the Obama presidency, the party has moved in lock-step opposition, which has helped coalesce a revitalized conservative movement in recent months.
So we are back to BS cross the aisle crap. No Child – Bush’s first GD failure, crossing the aisle to join with Ted “the Swimmer”. Republicans should not only be opposing more of the same crap, but looking for ways to kill this bill and the entire unconstitutional Dept of Education. Hell, they even have a damn certified homosexual pedophile directing the dam thing now.
And then there is the damn “financial rule”. Ohhh cry me a river RINOs if you think the press will gang up on you if you oppose more useless regulations on the banks and Wall Street. I got some news for you idiot eyores; the freaking press is going to gang up on you any damn way regardless of what you do.
Why do you insist on employing the same damn John McCain losing strategy trying to “win the press”? The press is hopelessly stuck in the back pockets of the American People’s Democratic Communist Party (Democrat for short). You are not going to win them over. Sure McCain had them in the primaries, but that was only to get him the nod so they could then shit on him better.
So who are these eyeors and RINOs? The typicals:
Mr. Dodd, trying to take advantage of the breaks within the party, is expected to court centrist Republicans such as Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine and George Voinovich of Ohio.
These are all on the finance committee. “Centrist” is press code for DIABLO. “Moderate” means RINO. But these are not the only ones mentioned as “willing to negotiate”.
Sen. Richard Shelby (R., Ala.) and Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) have separately negotiated with Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D., Conn.), sending mixed signals to other Republicans.
So the 64 thousand dollar question is “where is the Party going from here”? Have they learned that shitting on the base and crossing the aisle will NOT win them votes and draw the base to the polls? Are they going to waste all of the outrage currently running high among the base and the independents. Are they going to listen to Rasmussen and the Tea Party faithful?
Or are they going to once again choose to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and become a permanent minority party going out the way of the Whigs and Federalists?
They have a chance this fall to extract a bloodbath from the Dems, solidly take the House and make significant gains in the Senate with a setup to retake the Senate and the WH in 2012. Let us pray that they wake up before it is too damn late.

-City of Philadelphia Agency own horribly dilapidated property in Center City (5 blocks from City Hall).
What's wrong with the building you ask? How about a 2ft high pile of dead animals, toxic mold from pooled water (due to leaking roof and broken windows) exposed asbestos laden tiles, gigantic, cat sized rats that spill into other nearby buildings.
-Charter School next to crappy building suffers ill effects. Spending tens of thousands of dollars to keep their school safe.
-Building has been cited by Licenses and Inspections numerous times deeming it a health hazard, but can enforce anything, since the shit hole of a building is city owned.
-The agency that is in charge on maintaining the building is chaired by the Mayor of the City.
Like I said, worth reading to get an idea of how corrupt this whole system is.

This is the perfect opportunity to highlight Dodds and Franks involvement in the housing collapse. And yet once again it appears the Republicans are going to roll over and let these two frauds take credit for trying to fix a problem they played a huge part in creating. Yeah, Vic. After Cornyn's statement yesterday and What I heard from Peter King this morning, I've got to wonder what the hell these guys are smoking.
Instead of going for straight repeal and using the existing anger and disgust of the base they're talking about only dismantling the more egregious aspects of the legislation. The message will ultimately get confused.
The short version is that the left will characterize the GOP of campaigning to kill sick people. That being the case, the GOP needs to go all in. Half measures will only suck the life out of a very strong conservative movement and the base will continue to be disenchanted.

IF the WSJ quote is accurate, and nowadays that is a big IF, they are worried the "press" will demonize them for siding with Wall Street and the bankers who everyone from the Ghost of Walt Disney to fat jack Michael Moore caused every problem on earth. They want to appease the evil gods of the press by throwing sacrificing the virgins of common sense.
They have been employing that strategy since they allowed the press and Clinton to team up and blame them for the phony government shutdown.
That strategy has not worked since then and will never work. The evil gods of the press could give a crap for virgins tossed into the volcano of communist propaganda.

Pittsburgh City Council passes bike parking legislation
Bicycle-parking legislation passed City Council Tuesday, a move that builds on the city's addition of bicycle traffic lanes in recent years.
In a 9-0 vote, council approved a measure that the planning commission approved last September. It would require developers to provide one bicycle parking space for every new project that is between 6,001 and 20,000 square feet and another space for every additional 10,000 square feet.
In new apartment developments of 12 or more units, one bicycle parking space is required for every three units.

The NY Slimes weighs in with its usual genius on the subject:
For all the political and economic uncertainties about health reform, at least one thing seems clear: The bill that President Obama signed on Tuesday is the federal governmentÂ’s biggest attack on economic inequality since inequality began rising more than three decades ago.
Over most of that period, government policy and market forces have been moving in the same direction, both increasing inequality. The pretax incomes of the wealthy have soared since the late 1970s, while their tax rates have fallen more than rates for the middle class and poor.
Attack on economic inequality aka socialism aka moving more people into poverty

If you'd ever heard Miller talk about Beck in Beck's early days at FOX, he wasn't a fan. Yesterday was Twilight Zone.
He and Hanson laughed about how nuts they thought Beck was but now they say they watch with their faces against the TV screen.
The first hour of today's show is available on the internet to everyone at Beck's web site, not just the insiders. Terrifying stuff. Listen to it. Immigration might be next up, but according to a WH insider, they held hearings last week on voter restoration for felons. With 5 million convicted felons (Van Jones's peeps, of course) and 25 million illegals, they'll have elections sewn up for the next 60 years. You've got to hear the rest of the tactics and reasoning for why the donks are rubbing everything our collective conservative faces.

Obama made better coverage for children a centerpiece of his health care remake, but it turns out the letter of the law provided a less-than-complete guarantee that kids with health problems would not be shut out of coverage.
No problem, Obama will just decree that the hole in ObamaCare does not exist:
Late Tuesday, the administration said Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius would try to resolve the situation by issuing new regulations. The Obama administration interprets the law to mean that kids can't be denied coverage, as the president has said repeatedly.
Really, who needs Congress when you have dictatorial powers.
Wait, it wasn't really that much of a problem in the first place:
The coverage problem could mainly affect parents who purchase their own coverage for the family, as many self-employed people have to do. Families covered through employer plans typically do not have to worry about being denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions.
Parents whose kids are turned down by an insurer would still have a fallback under the law, even without Sebelius' fix. They could seek coverage through state high-risk insurance pools slated for a major infusion of federal funds.
Last, I was wrong about the dictatorial power thing. Turns out when you write a law that's so convoluted, you get to just make up what it means:An insurance industry group says the language in the law that pertains to consumer protections for kids is difficult to parse.
My conclusion: 1) These bastards have nearly half the American people bamboozled. 2) Time to find a piece of land in the middle of nowhere and learn to be self-sufficient.

Sales of New U.S. Homes Dropped in February to Lowest on Record
Sales of new homes in the U.S. unexpectedly fell in February to a record low as blizzards, unemployment and foreclosures depressed the market.
Purchases decreased 2.2 percent to an annual pace of 308,000, figures from the Commerce Department showed today in Washington. The median sales price climbed by the most in more than two years.
The new-home market is vying with foreclosure-induced declines in prices for existing homes in an economy where unemployment is forecast to average 9.6 percent this year, close to a 26-year high.[ . . . ]
Sales were projected to climb to a 315,000 annual pace, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of 78 economists.

The real unemployment rate is 17% or so.
Why sould a lack of home sales in such an environment be "unexpected"?
And 308,000 sales annually is a catastrophe. Wow.

Posted by: The Outlaw in the Heavenly Hall
As much as I'd like to repeal the whole thing, it is silly to think it is possible before 2013.
You have to remember there are good parts of this bill.. parts that almost any Republican would have voted for (or at least have gone on the record that they would have voted for).
I believe the framing the GOP should take is this:
"This healthcare bill includes insurance reforms we all can agree needed to be enacted and that we were willing to agree upon in a bipartisan bill. But it goes too far with unconstitutional mandates and taxes and government intrusion into nearly every aspect of health care. We will work toward repealing those pieces the American public is steadfastly against and try to enact additional reforms such as tort reform and being able to purchase insurance across state lines next Congress."

Just realized that with all the hulabaloo over the signing of the deathcare bill, it didn't get said much that it is also the largest tax increase in the history of the U.S.
So I thought I would free that to the intertubes.

Noted two things:
First big discussion on the rapist/killer in San Diego who has been killing all those young girls. The discussion centered around how he had been ruled as dangerous but they let him out and then didn't adequately police him.
A lot of discussion on ankle bracelets and locking him back up for parole violations. I kept waiting for some one to mention the 3,000 pound elephant sitting on the friggin couch. WHY was this animal still consuming O2? Violent sex offense - choice; life in prison or castration. Kill in the process of a sex offense? Death within 2 months of conviction.
The second thing was Stupak and the EO. He said EO does have force of law and how he was sure that Lincoln believe he had force of law when he issued the Emancipation Proclamation and how Eisenhower was sure when he desegregated the armed forces with an EO.
This guy obviously knows NOTHING about the law or history. Especially about the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln stated that he thought the order WAS Unconstitutional which is why it only applied to the Confederacy. Also, that is why the congress passed the 13th amendment.
In any case, will be going out now. Maybe back later.
Be sure to smash the trolls if they come back.

Yeah, but it's important to distinguish that this was only NEW homes, not total home sales. Not saying it's good news, but when current housing sales are already on the low end of the valuation scale, with hundreds of thousands of foreclosed properties on the market, there's not a lot of demand for new ones.
This to me is entirely expected. They must be only interviewing NYT "economists" for the surveys now.

In incremental ways like stripping authorizations from spending bills, holding up presidential appointments and amendments stretching to the horizon to chip away at this monstrosity, it can be done.

It said in a statement Thursday that the May 9 parade will include a Royal Air Force band and a detachment of Welsh Guards.
The statement said the parade may mark the first time British troops have marched in Red Square.
The U.S. Embassy confirmed that U.S. soldiers will take part in the parade.
Victory Day is Russia's most important secular holiday. The Kremlin plans a larger parade than usual this year.

After reading that transcript, the insurance companies just need to do one thing to torpedo this shit: Work up their 2011 rates in Sept/Oct, and for the 200-300% increase, provide the section numbers of the bill and the amount of the premium increase it causes. Then they need to send that out to all of their clients, posts national ads, have spokesman with the numbers on every news program they can get on, every radio, television, newspaper, etc. They need to be super transparent on their costs. Hell if people know now how much of their premium went to which covered areas people may well have been in a different boat.

I've been thinking along the same lines..
But I don't think anyone has really considered all of the ways insurers can really make life hell for people over the next few years and be able to blame it all on the new regulations.
Take in-program and out-of-program coverage, for instance. An insurer can simply drop all relationships with providers of really expensive specialties. The patient would still be liable for a fairly high percentage of the costs.
There's most likely many ways private insurers will be able to work around the regs to make this healthcare utopia we've been given less than ideal..

I think it's worse than the line-item veto because it overrides something in legislation that was duly passed. It's an ex-post-facto action. The line-item veto at least has the virtue of being done with the legislation (and has the benefit of splitting off stuff from odious omnibus bills).

RE: Beck- Love him or hate him, the man is compelling. Yesterday's TV show in the 1st 20 minutes outlined how the concept of social justice is wealth redistribution is Marxism, sold to Americans under the guise of Christian morality. And oh how ironic, given that marxism stamps out religion in order to make government the new "god".

I am almost certain they said Eisenhower but there is no way to verify because it came from the TV show.
But in the end, does it really matter which president it was? If I am not mistaken the armed forces were desegregated way back in the early 1900s and that was reversed by an EO from DEMOCRAT Wilson. So undoing Wilson's EO with a new EO is a no-brainer and nothing like undoing a legislative act.
