Re sidebar story: Screw their healthcare, let's copy Canada's banking system instead.
Mortgages in arrears: USA 10%, Canada less than ½ of 1% [ArthurK]
This is a fairly good article and all should read it. There are, however, several things they have included as making the Canadian system “better” than ours and they have omitted several things that contributed to the collapse of ours. What is truly funny about the article is that many of the things that they list that helped Canada and hindered the U.S. (meaning that we should adopt the Canadian model) are actually things that we used to have here in the U.S. but had been removed through actions of the Democrat/communist party in the U.S.
I started this comment with the intent of covering the things the article covered with a small amount of commentary for each one. It just got too big. I will shorten it to say it is my opinion that they only list one difference that was a major contributor to the U.S. problem and they pass off the other major cause of the U.S. problem by mentioning it in the lead in but not as a difference. That was the “housing bubble” in the U.S. That and CRA were the two major causes of our collapse. Also not mentioned was the presence of F&F in the U.S. which allowed the banks to make the loans required under CRA and who packaged all the bad loans as “investment paper”.
Good Morning Morons; Hahahaha creative headlines at best from Fox:
Blue Dog Pack Threatens to Kill Health Bill Over Abortion
Lawmaker says a dozen Dems will reject Obama's health care bill unless it contains language banning fed funds for abortion
Blue Dog Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak says he's counted 11 lawmakers plus himself willing to kill President Obama's health care overhaul over abortion language.
Fox is trying to create a headline and story that is certainly misleading. 39 people voted against this thing before and it passed with 2 votes. The Dems have lost one and the Repubs have lost one. 2 of the yeses have gone to no but; still they do not have to convert too many of those 39 to yes to keep the vote. I have always maintained that Nanny could have gotten a lot more of those 39 if she had needed them.
BTW; Mr. Blue Dog Stupak has an ACU rating of 12 in 2008 and 16 in 2009. I guess he is a “conservative” Dog of Color Democrat because he opposes abortion.
Folks this is the meme from the media that we MUST get rid of. Stupak is a damn religious liberal. He is the quintessential Catholic full of support for all liberal causes except abortion and gay marriage. I would classify him as a communist with an ACU rating below 20.

DEMINT: White House land grab
You'd think the Obama administration is busy enough controlling the banks, insurance companies and automakers, but thanks to whistleblowers at the Department of the Interior, we now learn they're planning to increase their control over energy-rich land in the West.
So, Bambi is getting ready to pull another Clinton via “Executive Order”. Take millions of acres of land off the table for use by making it a federal preserve. Oh, and don’t say “what can be done by Executive Order can be undone by a Republican the next cycle. The Clinton land grab never was undone. Of course, Bush was damn liberal puss so it wasn’t going to happen. Maybe if we elected a real conservative for a change some of this shit WILL be undone.
One thing that may be different about this land grab that isn’t fully explained is the term “seized”. DeMint emplies that the government will seize this 10 million acres meaning that the government doesn’t already own the land to begin with and is just taking it out of play. If they are “seizing” private land that is a horse of a different color.

His bio lists him as a Roman Catholic. The Catholic Church in the U.S. has been widely known to embrace just about every liberal/commie cause that comes down the pike; except abortion and Gay stuff.

One of George Wills better columns as it skewers a worthy opponent the "self-asteem" movment.
But I don't buy the BS about the lower accident rate for teenagers who did not have driver's ed. I think the insurance companies would not buy it either.
I suspect they got those numbers by counting ALL teenagers regardless of license status. Teenagers without a license (and who don't drive) are not going to take driver's ed and are not likely to have accidents.

Hey, Vic, can you tone down the Catholic-bashing? That's two days in a row, man. We get it.
It was not my intent to bash "Catholics in general", the organized Catholic Church and Stupak who like to embrace liberal causes was my target. However, I don't recall saying anything about Catholics or any church yesterday at all.
In any case, I will refrain from mentioning any religion in the future other than the occasion jab at the religion of peace.

20 did you see the cruise ship thing. Two people killed like 25 injured when they were hit by a giant wave in the Mediterranean. Wonder if the wave had anything to do with the earthquake?
Doubtful. IIRC, waves caused by earthquakes only cause problems once they're closer to shore -- that's why you can survive a tsunami in a boat if you sail out to sea, toward the wave. The kind of thing you're describing happens from time to time and is (again, IIRC) usually related to storm or wind activity.

Dagny said it pretty well at 28 -- the boomers really tried to force quite a bit of change onto the Church, and the Church (either wisely or unwisely) tried to cater to its members. However, the Church has always had an element of the liberal -- as it should. Remember: true, actual liberalism (not statism masquerading as liberalism) is not an evil thing -- every worthwhile institution, be it state or religion, carries within it the balancing dynamic between liberalism and conservatism; once there is only one or the other is when you have problems. I also believe many mistake communalism for communism as well and that has also led to a lot of problems -- the former is one of the recommendations straight from Jesus himself, and thus a founding tenent of Christianity and the obligation of all true Christians; the other is, well, statism.
I don't believe that Stupak is what I would call a quintessential Catholic, so much as a quintessential politician -- but I would say that at least in this instance he is at least giving some voice service to a tenent of his faith. In which case he's doing a lot better than Pelousi and Biden. And in the long run, I don't really give a damn -- if it holds up this bill so it can be (hopefully, ultimately) destroyed, so be it -- good on him this once.

Quick summation about my accident. Taking the test in a Dodge Dart, in Tucson. Come across a sort of washed out side road with a man-hole cover sticking up. Cross over man-hole cover. Bottom of car catches the lid, drives the lid under the car and into the ground at the same time. Car stops to a dead halt. I had asked the Instructer to put on his seat-belt before we started but he wouldn't.
So when we hit the man-hole cover, he went face first into the windshield. My head went into the steering wheel, but I was ok. He had blood all over his face.
I had to walk back to the DMV to get help. As you can imagine, that wasn't a good day.
Actually, it was several yrs later that I actually goot the courage up to get my drivers license. I was made to understand that that instructer had since retired.

Unless teenagers have really changed since I was one, lack of license does not equal "does not drive" (that doesn't seem limited to teenagers, either--see illegal aliens and repeat DUI offenders). That "school permit" which only legally allowed a 14-year-old to drive the most direct route between their farm and their school, with no passengers, for school and school-sanctioned activities, between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.? Ticket to freedom, including heading off to the county seat to "scoop the loop" until 4 a.m. six nights a week.
Yeah, I'm still bitter about living right next door to the high school. Didn't get to drive until I was 16 and got a real license.

The Dims will come up with some "anti-abortion" windowdressing, then they will pass the bill with one or two votes in the House by pulling in a few retiring Blue Dogs with promises of nice fat jobs for them. Knowing that their votes are no longer needed, the rest of the Blue Dogs will vote "No" and then be much more likely to keep their jobs in November.
The thing Pubbies need to do is to focus on and defeat all the Blue Dogs in November.

the boomers really tried to force quite a bit of change onto the Church
Wrong. The pre-boomer generations that wrought Vatican II were the ones that tried, and succeeded, in forcing changes. Catholics of the baby boom generation have actually been in the forefront of the fight to rescind some of the more damaging aspects of Vatican II. Note that a lot of what Vatican II accomplished was beneficial to the church--and necessary as well, especially with respect to theological and doctrinal corrections it implemented. I would also note that most of the pediophile priests of the 70s and 80s, who got into the priesthood as an unintended result of the liberalizing aspects of Vatican II, were pre-boomers.

I think there's been a misunderstanding. This is the only mention of quantum mechanics in that article:As Quantum Mechanics used to be called "Wave mechanics", this lack of knowledge about waves goes a long way to explain why we cannot figure the full picture of what goes on in Quantum Physics. All the Wave Mechanics we have uses linear waves, because that is what we understand. But that does not mean it is the only thing nature understands. As rogue waves in the ocean clearly show, obviously not.
Don't quote me, but I don't think quantum mechanics can be used to describe any phenomena unless they're at the atomic scale or smaller.
Even Schrodinger's Cat isn't really a macro phenomenon explained by quantum mechanics.

Same with bike riding. I wear a helmet. Why? Not because it's a law, but it's my head hitting the ground. I want it protected.
Do what you want, but I like to keep my body from injury.
Sure. We have no helmet law here, but I always wear a helmet, and I currently have over 100,000 miles on my BMW motorcycle, many of them at extra legal speeds. Laws are not the same thing as morals. There are evil and intrusive laws. I think the government oversteps with the seat belt laws, so I ignore them.

Casting yourself as an outsider from inside the White House is no easy trick, especially when your party controls both houses of Congress. But that doesn't stop Barack Obama from trying.
It seems they BOTH have a lot of chutzpah.
Yes it IS easy to cast yourself as an outsider when you are the President when you have poeple like the AP in your back pocket carrying your outrageous lies for you.

I never wear a seat belt. Why? Simple, the government should not be in the business of protecting me from myself. They can KMA.
This might be irrelevant to what you're talking about but one of my buddies never wore his seatbelt and I always do. He's driving one day, looks over at me and says, "What, you don't trust my driving?"
I said, "Sure, I trust you. I just don't trust the rest of these yayhoos."

I believe that they will find enough kamikaze Dims to vote for it and pass it by 1 or 2 votes. That bare 2 vote margin originally was no accident. It got the bill passed out, and provided cover for the "no" votes. They had a few in reserve, believe me..
For example, watch Pomeroy from ND (where I often work). He's on the verge of retiring from his seat (which he is almost sure to lose) and he is currently collecting chits from business and other Dim politicians.
ND is against this bill by a wide margin, but that will not stop Pomeroy; he's got his eye on his retirement stash.
He even voted to reinstall the Death Tax, even though ND is against it by a 80-20% margin. And then he's signing on a cushy job with some Life Insurers, who benefit hugely from the Death Tax being reinstalled, since Life Insurance payments are tax-free.

Some are applying the equations of quantum mechanics to rogeu waves.
Shukla, Marklund and their colleagues built their theory on a two-wave system, where two waves interact nonlinearly, which is described by the Schrodinger equations. These quantum mechanics equations, originally developed to describe the wave-like behavior of electrons in atoms, have since been used for a variety of wave systems. The scientists found that two-wave cases behave much differently than single waves, which exhibit standard instabilities and dissolve into a wide spectrum of waves.
"We have presented a theoretical study of the modulational instabilities of a pair of nonlinearly interacting two-dimensional waves in deep water, and have shown that the full dynamics of these interacting waves gives rise to localized large-amplitude wave packets," wrote the scientists in a recent issue of Physical Review Letters. "wo water waves can, when nonlinear interactions are taken into account, give rise to novel behavior such as the formation of large-amplitude coherent wave packets with amplitudes more than 3 times the ones of the initial waves."

If you make good grades, keep fit, have a decent idea of being socialized, play sports, or have some other talent you foster-- you have your own self created self esteem. I can't GIVE them self esteem. My job is to watch for the things that pull them off the track where they can earn their own. I also am there as a shoulder when things don't work out the way they should, to tell them that life isn't fair, to help them develop a full and robust sense of humor and to know that I'm there backing them up while they learn the right things to do--and making them afraid to do bad things because I am such a bitch.

Oh how I loath that man. He was reelected through chicanery and tricks. He does control the Republican Party in SC making it very hard to get real things done in this State.
In my last E-Mail to him I promised to actively campaign against him and I did during that last election. I sent a lot of letters to the editor in the newspapers here. Too bad they are all owned by the Democraps and are nothing more than PR rags for them. They love Graham.
The Dems said they would not run a candidate in the last election because he was their best candidate. An independent did run as a Dem, but that was just to get on the ticket.

Ahem. Could you knock it off with the Boomers? The Boomers are in place in the Church now, but the changes that brought so much liberalism to the Church were actually started and promoted by people now retired, and who were members of that cohort who came to age during and immediately after the Second World War.
In the early 70's when most of this stuff was brought in, Boomers were still in their 20's and in no position to affect the seminaries and Church teaching.
My generation is NOT full of hippies; it is just that those people are so loud and get all of the press attention. I spent 1968 -1970 as an Air Force wife in West Berlin, not at Woodstock or Haight-Ashbury.
For some time I have been concerned at the inter-generational warfare that seems to erupt on internet sites. I believe that a lot of this is fomented by the press, and I have seen it once before. Back in the late 60's, my generation was encouraged to rebel and hold our parents in contempt. The media had a large part in this (and the KGB, as we have recently discovered). Now that we are the older generation, we are again being hit with this generational thing, although this time we are cast as the villains.
Most of my friends are NOT liberal, do NOT run their charge cards up, do NOT have huge mortgages, WORK, and have stable marriages. It would really be nice if you guys would think about where you got this idea that Boomers are somehow the source of all that's wrong with the Church, or the country for that matter. It's as offensive to me to read that as I am sure it would be to you if I referred to Gen X as "slackers."

Back in the 80's, that was how the military started requiring seat belts. Any time a servicemember is involved in an accident (especially if it involves visits to a hospital or doctor), the military conducts a line-of-duty investigation. The presumption is always that the accident is line-of-duty. If the SM was engaged in some form of non-legal activity, the determination can be changed to not-line-of duty (NLOD). They passed a regulation that stated that any accidents involving SMs who were not wearing seat belts were automatically NLOD. That means that the SM had to pay for any and all medical costs.

Posted by: maddogg at March 04, 2010 07:35 AM (OlN4e)
Well, now I'll argue the converse. There are circumstances in which wearing a seatbelt actually causes more harm than good. Also, the seatbelt itself can cause injuries. A blanket rule on denial of insurance payments does not take that into account.
There's a reason why some states don't let in evidence about whether or not a person was wearing a seatbelt. Causation issues aren't that cut and dried.
Posted by: alexthechick at March 04, 2010 07:37 AM (8WZWv)

Look at what the country will be facing. Massive deficits, runaway spending, an uncertain economic climate, and possibly a nuclear armed Iran.
I doubt that immigration reform or global warming will be high on the public's list of priorities. Reigning in government growth, taxes and spending might just play pretty well, and the Dems have lost all credibility when it comes to fiscal responsibility.

Yes good old Dickless Cavett. He did the famous anti-war screed in 1971 when I was just before going over to 'Nam.

LOL, I had a bike roll over the top of my head and take a chunk out of the helmet. If it had not been for the helmet I would not have walked away from that one.
What is funny was the worse I was ever hurt on bike was when a damn idiot whipped out blindly around a milk truck right in my face and I didn't have time to do anything but dump it in the gutter. Messed up a knee good.
My other major accident was dumping it on the highway but on that I simply slid away my pants and got a good road rash that burned like fire for a while and cost me a new pair of jeans and a flight jacket.

The explanation for that statistic that I like is: most of the time you're driving (80%ish) you're within a few miles of home. Not saying it's true, just that I like it.
I suddenly have an idea. The government should outlaw driving within 5 miles of your home! An 80% reduction in accidents!!11!1!

56 Dagny, that's exactly it: communalism/communitarianism is primarily individual in focus and the authority for such behavior (if you are a Christian) comes from the impetus to honor God's covenant. Communism is thoroughly derived from the state. Unfortunately (many) people seem to confuse the two -- hence the ugly growth of such aberrations as state welfare and AGW.
As for the boomers: I am not laying blame on the entire boomer generation -- that would be a gross generalization and wrong. However, while Vatican II was brought about by the pre-boomer generation, many of that generation within the Church did "take the ball and run with it" -- trust me, I had many "quintessential" hippie nuns who were boomers teaching me in college; one sometimes questioned if they really wholeheartedly believed/remembered what religion they adhered to and served. I would not accuse them of doing/thinking what they did out of any ill will, far from it; their intentions were by and large very good (I would suspect that many lay people from the boomer generation were of the same ilk -- they didn't intend harm). The road to hell though... I also realize that many of that generation have tried to amend the misfires of the '60s and '70s. My only hope is that in realizing the mistake of misunderstanding what liberalism truly means they don't throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater.

I was listening to Rush several years ago, and he was talking about how the gummint uses cost-benefit analysis to decide whether to make new regulations. They put a value on an American life, and if the estimated number of lives saved has more value than the cost of implementing the regulation, they pass it.
I'm against that.
Posted by: FUBAR at March 04, 2010 11:27 AM (1fanL)
While I understand being against a law requiring seatbelts (I have no problem with that, and probably agree, if I think about it too long), as an economist, it's my job to tell you that EVERYBODY places a value on human life, whether implicitly or explicitly. Everything has some value (potentially negative value, but value nonetheless), and oftentimes it's how you act that shows what value you place on something. So don't knock the government trying to put a value on human life; maybe it's cruel and heartless, but that's the dismal science of economics for you.

There is a good article in the online version of Der Speigel, where they interview a greek scholar about the current problems. Anyway, his last paragraph really struck me.
SPIEGEL ONLINE: Where do things go from here?
Markaris: Greece is lucky that it still has a minority of active and productive people, who are to thank for the fact that the country didn't go broke earlier. But this minority is at the end of its rope. Either we are leaving, they say, or the EU must take drastic action and change something. The only way Greece is going to work its way out of the crisis is if the EU or the IMF succeed in rigorously monitoring it. In Greece, we need a drastic treatment.

Just me Vic, but I think the point the others were trying to make is that pointing out his religion isn't germane to his liberalism. In other words, they are wondering if he was a Southern Baptist whether you would have pointed it out.
But that WAS the point in my initial comment. The press, including Fox, calls these folks conservatives or Blue Dogs based on the fact that they are religious. That is the meme that I am trying to stop.
As far as Southern Baptist goes, I am a Southern Baptist, but I freely get down on the Huck, who is also a Southern Baptist, just as hard because I consider him to be a religious liberal as well and not a conservative.

As an unconcerned Catholic Conservative voter I have to agree that there is a streak of such liberalism runinng through what passes for the mainstream of Catholic thought and public expression. Here in the Diocese of Wilmington, the weekly publication is rife with articles ranging from white privelege to global warming to anti-death penalty to the gutting of immigration laws. When Notre Dame rolled out the red carpet or the manufactured Messiah, the coverage was firmly spun as one on 'controlling anger' and productive engagement. Then again, this is the place where Joe Biden can do no wrong. He is the epitome of the special breed of hack that advertises kinship with Caholicism when and only when an opinion poll deems it to be of use. Otherwise, he wouldn't dare to 'force his beliefs upon others'.
This isn't new. We saw this when John Kerry said the same thing about abortion, but then reversed himseldf and cited Catholicism for his enviromentalist stance.
Does this exist in other religions? Probably. Is this a major issue within the American Catholic Church today? That question was answered when the 'Catholic' vote split in 2008.

I think there's been a misunderstanding. Go ahead and put a number on a human life. Or an American citizen's life anyway. I'm heartlessly unbothered by that. What I object to is enacting regulations based on the cost-benefit analysis. The decision should not be based on a cost-benefit analysis, but on whether the regulation furthers some legitimate Constitutional function of government.

My sister said this to me while back. She said most accidents happen within a mile from home, but the stat is misleading, because it neglects the obvious. No matter where you drive. 100 miles from home, or 2 miles from home, you ALWAYS have drive through that first mile from home to get there. So just as a matter of frequency, whenever you drive, you always pass through that one mile from home radius.

I think if you start adding things up you will find that it will go a lot higher than 25K. When I first got replacement cost insurance instead of the standard stuff I audited the house and put it all on a spread sheet.

I know Obama said there would be no math, but for those of you keeping score (From Jake Tapper):
The NYT is reporting Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., a Yes vote last November, expressed a hesitation to vote Yes this time.
The reason? She's unconvinced that the Senate will pass the "fixes" to the Senate bill that the House is being asked to vote for (along with fixes), and she's not crazy about the Senate bill without them.
“I am not inclined to support the Senate version,” Berkley said. “I would like something more concrete than a promise. The Senate cannot promise its way out of a brown paper bag.”
As weÂ’ve previously covered, 220 members of Congress voted for the bill when Pelosi brought the House legislation to a vote.
Since then, four yes votes are no more: Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao, R-Louisiana, has said he won’t vote for final passage, Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hi., retired to run for governor, Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Fla., also retired, and Rep. John Murtha, D-Penn., died.
That means to pass the Senate bill, Pelosi starts out with 216 members of Congress who votes yes last time. With the pending retirement of Rep. Nathan Deal, R-Ga., there will soon be only 431 members of Congress total, meaning a majority will be 216 votes
I still think they're going to pass the crap sandwich.

While we get scolded by certain people for hurling the "fascism" word at what Barry is doing to our government, we search for a better word. "Crony or State capitalism" isn't quite right as there is nothing capitalistic about it. "Corporatism" is rather vague. But Jonah Goldberg reminds us that there is a good word for this in French, dirigisme. It's kept the French at anemic growth with high unemployment for decades.

Remember he had some health thing a little while back? I can't remember if he had a seizure or what. Maybe I'll google it. I sure hope he doesn't--Obama would get to appoint the chief justice. Wow, that would be soo bad, plus he would replace a conservative constitutionalist with some radical nutbar--maybe himself? Everyone get on your knees and pray.

This is actually from yesterday's WSJ (I'm a little behind) but it's kind of funny. "When Good Deeds Turn Bad" by Jeffrey Zaslow.
"...Good intentions are often greeted cynically, or with indifference. In Hollywood, celebrities recently gathered to again sing "We are the World", and much of the world yawned in response.
In Chicago's City Hall, waterless urinals in a men's room were touted for saving 50,000 gallons of water a year per urinal. But without enough water per flush, the copper pipes corroded and urine collected in the restroom wall. The smell of urine spread through City Council chambers. Last month, amid snickering, the well meaning conservation effort was abandoned, and regular urinals were installed."
Here's the link to the whole thing:

280 ...and the word for the day is..."quintessential"..."quintessential"
lol!
283 Well, if that's the case, my horses are going to be put to some real work.
I already make my kids walk or ride a bike -- not because it saves Gaia, more like I'm not putting gas in my truck for them to run out, nor am I going to drop everything and be their unpaid chauffer for every little thing, so there ya go -- bike or hike. There is a choice at least. My mom's cousin has a daughter (now in her late 30s), who has a daughter in her 20s, who has a 5 yo. girl -- she has done everything and anything for them, including pulling cover on some illegal activities they've been involved in (because she "loves" them, gimme a break!). They are welfare divas and straight up POS (even the 5 yo.). No way was I going to have my kids turn out like that. In fact, I point to those three and say "you see them? you ever act like that or let your kids act like that I'll disown you -- after I kick your ass in." So far it's worked pretty well.

Speaking of libtard nieces/nephews and those awful urinals reminded me of a story from this Christmas.
I have a niece who is attending a college in NC which is described as "the most liberal liberal arts college in the country". She described a dorm there that has toilets that don't go to a standard septic tank or sewer. She said it went out on the ground to save water and the environment.
I could not believe that so I investigated and sure enough, they have one toilet that does that by dumpting to an open air dry cesspool covered in sawdust.
I frankly can not believe they get by with that because here that would be considered a health code violation. But I am sure since it is in the name of "green" some idiot has given them a waver.

Believe it or not, I knew some rather corpulent ones. I was like WTF--how can you be fat, you're a freaking vegan? It's all about calories in and out. When I was in school, a fire marshal would show up every year and present a slide show of young burn victims set to the tune of "God Bless the Kids" by the Oak Ridge Boys, I believe. It was burn prevention week. Horrible horrible images of the worst burns/skin grafts you can imagine, to an auditorium full of Jr. High kids.
The gasping started two slides in, and the crying started at four. After that, there was 5 more minutes to endure.
The first time it happened, even when they warned everyone, they sent many many kids home sick.
TO THIS DAY, however, I will not turn on the hot water in the shower first.

You don't have one clue what you are talking about. I will just use myself as an example. I have a genetic kidney disease that has led to kidney failure. I was fortunate in that I had been with my insurance carrier long enough to have cleared their threshold for pre-existing conditions. Had I not, I would have been screwed to the wall for hospitalization and dialysis ($200,000 in the first year). There was absolutely nothing I could do about my disease. I got it through no action of my own. My sister also has the disease and there is a 50% chance that each of her sons has it. She would not take them to be tested because she did not want it anywhere on the record that they had it to prevent them having problems getting health insurance. Fortunately, a couple of years ago, Congress got its act together and passed a law stating that businesses cannot discriminate against people because of genetic disorders. Now, she can safely have her sons tested and they can still get their own insurance when they get old enough.

Pointing out he is religious would be the way to make the point....what brand was irrelevant. But the real issue is that we are not to talk about that aspect? Truly is important not to exorcise religion from the discussion on the whole. That is my truest objection.

There are. The only ones I know are in Illinois. I'd be cautious about that spreading though. The doctors that sought the representation from the SEIU were trying to bargain with Crook County Democrats that use the County's health care obligations as a patronage landfill. The docs know the county is throwing money for care down the drain for staff that aren't necessary.
The Crook County board will have a new chairman next year. The commission that was created to monitor spending in the county health care system has already recommended they receive LESS funding. Yes, really.
The SEIU growth strategy is on life support. They're whole gambit is Obamacare to fire insurance company administrative staff, fund Obamacare with that money, then hire new administrative staff that are gov employees, and then attempt to acquire their collective bargaining rights by funding receptive elected officials.
Andy Stern is going to fail. Putting him on the deficit commission will air all of his bankrupt ideas for the whole world.

Oh, yea. Maybe by the time she graduates, we'll have restored a modicum of sanity to Washington and we can begin to retake the skies.
She's trying to balance a desire to fly with something else like aeronautical engineering. She's getting a full ride and naturally has my full support, even when I wink at her and call her a "traitor".
I'm also leaning on her for football tickets...she'll also be in the band.

Wow, I had no idea. SEIU represents the nurses and allied health care professionals at my hospital. I didn't realize there were doctors in teh mix. Scary! Union dues are a percentage of your wages (I don't know what since I'm grandfathered in non-union, now we're closed shop).

Geez Louise! One of the reasons that there's so much death and sickness in third world countries is because they do not have proper plumbing/toilet facilities. Plumbing saves lives. All these idiot Greentards want us all to go back to living in caves.

455 It would be a sadder, duller place if people didn't feel free to "get down" on others around here (pun perhaps intended). Besides, it was, I believe, JEA and the "Concerned Catholic" that were being the really obnoxious ones from the other day. And they were just laughable, so there you go.

Dunno if balancing flying and aeronautical engineering is much balance. My brother graduated in aeronautical engineering right at the end of the Cold War, and opportunities were non-existent. Maybe electrical (*shudder*) or mechanical.
Lessee, engineering, full ride, in the band, lofty goals. I'll bet your friends are sick and tired of hearing you brag.

The Dems pass the bill. Then they go home and say the benefits kick in in 2012, but the taxes start today. Then they do their "O" face and jizz in their pants.

LOl, perhaps I should have said Stupak is the "quintessential liberal dumbass" and has nothing to do with conservatism and the term Blue Dog is a myth created by the media to push their own liberal agenda.

I have a BIL who graduated from Ga Tech in A.E. He is now working on ship board designs (military). You are right, the airplane shit has dried up big time.
As for M.E.s when I retired the company I worked for had openings for several of those and was having difficulty filling them.

Hmm, this is good info to know, as second child wants to be an engineer when she grows up.
I have a younger brother (PhD Chem) who is a supervisor and does the interviews for a large company in GA. He tells me horror stories about recent engineering graduates who expect to be hired straight from school at over 100K and who expect to work locally (no travel) 40 hours a week.
We both laugh at that. Make sure when your daughter goes to school she is not given overly rosy predictions by the guidance counsellors.
That being said, M.E.s when I retired (~5 yrs ago) were being hired around 50K-60K and with a few years they would be up around 80K.
There were some other paths that they could take after 5 yrs that would have them over 100K fairly quickly but it involved a considerable amount of work.
The nuclear field is wide open right now because all those hated baby boomers are retiring. The big thing that was being parlayed about when I retired was that 70% of the skilled and educated work force would retire within the next decade. That is happening now.

Can we start unfounded rumors, too?
I would like to report that Sonia Sotomayor was "#20" in the Tiger Woods Affair List.

Reports have recently surfaced that Sonia Sotomayor was the latest Tiger Woods Mistress to surface. Will she resign in light of this?

Speculation swirled today on highly-trafficked blogosphere sites today about the possible resignation of Sonia Sotomayor, following reports that she is the alleged #20 in the list of mistresses held by golf superstar Tiger Woods.
Citation: 480.
Let's see what happens. C'mon, somebody go tip off Amanda Carpenter. I want to see this on BOR's Talking Points.

Fiscal or social conservative?
The Blue Dogs are more socially conservative than they are fiscally conservative. Although, lately they seem to be seeing that fiscal conservatism is sort of important.
