A few weeks back I posted a response to comments about Bambi’s faux support for nuclear power in which I said that crap like “guaranteeing loans” doesn’t help a bit and what they really needed was to clean up the damn intervener legal process.
Here is a damn fine example of that:
Nuclear plant opponents take case to high court
Opponents of a plan to build two nuclear power reactors in Fairfield County asked the S.C. Supreme Court on Thursday to require more study before the project moves forward.
They have been fighting and delaying this project every step of the way, adding tons of unnecessary costs. This is a project to add two new plants to an already existing site.
Note that they have drug this all the way out to the SC Supreme Court. It will not be over after that either. When they lose, and they will, they will just shift their attack to the federal courts. They do this linearly also. Anything to cause delay because that adds expense and they figure if it gets too expensive the utility will abandon it.
This has to change before nuclear can move forward again. Hell, if they did nothing more than make these Gaia idiots pay all the legal costs when they lose it would help.

It is patriotic according to the Wash Post to defend Al Queda terrorist detainees so they can, from a position of freedom, plot against us. A Clinton appointee wrote the article. It is apparently the highest form of patriotism to defend the enemy in a time of war.

Just rambling around checking news and blogs.
Andy McCarthy has an excellent analysis about the administration backing off on trying the 9/11 crew in NYC over at NRO. I'm too lazy to make it tiny, but it's worth a read.
Best quote of the day came from shitmydadsays:
"Science and Mother Nature are in a marriage where Science is always surprised to come home and find Mother Nature blowing the neighbor."
Heh.

I posted this in the last thread which died about the time I hit "post." I figered I'd toss it out again since it's loosely related to Vic's (for the enviro angle) and evil libertarian's (for the job report/snowstorm one).
Job losses in the U.S. probably accelerated in February as severe weather forced some employers to temporarily close, economists said before a report today.
This is utter bullshit. The job losses are fueled by the counterproductive policies of local, state and federal government. Additionally, as Upscale Community Organizer notes, a day or two off isn't going to trigger benefits.
I'm working a small clean up job in Brooklyn right now. In 22 years in the b usiness, I've never seen so many jobseekers and vendors walking on site looking to ply their respective wares. We're pretty much locked in with contractors and vendors, so sadly I have to tell them to pound sand.
The next phase of the project is to be the construction of a nationally known supermarket. I should say was to be, because just this week the EPA in what passes for its wisdom declared the entire Gowanus Canal a superfund site. Since my project borders a small spur of the canal, the client representive indicated that the next phase of the project is in all likelihood, dead.
That's a $40 million project down the rabbit hole. Multiply that by potential jobs up and down the Gowanus and pretty soon we're talking about billions in lost work.
And the administration tells us about a snowstorm.
Addendum: It's been my experience that a hell of a lot of jobs are actually created by large snow events. There's a hell of a lot of driveways, parking lots and sidewalks to plow and shovel.

Economists estimated before the report that the storms could inflate job losses by 100,000 or more. That would mean the economy generated a net gain in jobs last month, excluding the impact of the snow, for only the second time since the recession began in December 2007.
What the fuck!?!? The time of chaos is near. I believe it was in things jefferson might have thought vol 3 that said when old man winter lifts the us out of the great recession the republic has drawn its last breath.
Posted by: evil libertarian at March 05, 2010 09:23 AM (Jx2kQ)
Just so I understand - these "economists" say that they pulled a number out of their ass. the actual number was "only" 36k and since we expected the results to be above 100k we got a net gain. Never mind the fact that the NUMBERS say we lost 36k, we actuall made more?!?!?
how the fuck do they come up with this shit and still expect to be taken serious? Isn't this akin to my ex saying that she went to the store, found a sale, and even though she spent $500, everything was discounted. So in "reality" she actually saved $200?
Nevermind the fact we didn't have the $500 to spend, she saved us 200.
FFS, I need a drink.

The EPA in what passes for its wisdom declared the entire Gowanus Canal a superfund site.....
That Superfund BS has been the biggest scam to come out of the Government since the Teapot Dome mess during the corrupt Grant years. It litterally cleans up NOTHING and only serves to funnel money from a hapless buissness that usually had NOTHING to do with the property in question to a damn lawyer or group of lawyers.
If we had a real court system in this country that whole mess would have been declared an ex-pot facto law a long time ago. Every time I see some article about that abortion of a bill it makes my ass want to chew tobacco and spit. I thnk the Rs tried to get rid of it one time because it is such a massive failure but they were blocked by the commies and the RINOs.
arrrggggg.....

cent), adult women (8.0 percent), whites (8.8 percent), blacks (15.8 percent),
Hispanics (12.4 percent), and teenagers (25.0 percent) showed little to no
change in February. The jobless rate for Asians was 8.4 percent, not season-
ally adjusted.

Vic, I am unable to find the roots of Teapot Dome any farther back than the Taft administration. How was Grant involved, when his Navy was still making the transition from sail to coal?
EPA is a perfect example of what you get when the R tent gets big enough. Like your Postal Service, it's Republican through and through, and commie as hell. Some poor fools still think of Nixon as a right winger.

LOL, that's what you get when you work from memory alone. Teapot Dome was Harding.
Grant had Black Friday in 1869 and the Whiskey Ring in 1875, and The Crédit Mobilier. I knew he was corrupt just had the wrong ones.

I remember hearing something about the Gowanus,... not sure but I think there was some scam going where if they turned it into a superfund site all the current projects would be buried in paperwork so no one wanted it. They wanted to go around the regs and get it cleaned up without the actual designation, but somehow that deprived the "wheel grease" that NYC needs so badly (or at least the politician's brother's in law and legal profession need it) so even though the community does not want it to be SF, the dems were forcing it through.
