did anyone else notice that although some in state govt protested Obamacare because of the unfunded mandates, there wasn't the hue & cry you would expect from those trying to balance a state budget?

they must be thinking they'll get more porkulus or that they'll tax their residents some more.

Repost from yesterday:

21 I just got back from a conference at the State Capitol put on by State Rep. Greenberg on what we as a state can do and are doing to resist Obamacare.  I would say there were around 100 at the meeting, standing room only. When the meeting was over (it was full of Teaparty types BTW) a candidate for Blanche Lincoln's Senate seat, Jim Holt suggested we go down the hall and try to convince Governor Beebe to join the 14 other states in the lawsuit against Obamacare. We (maybe 50 of us) caught Gov. Beebe outside his office and began questioning him on his stand on Obamacare and why we hadn't filed suit with the 14 other states. The Governor seemed taken aback and a little off balance faced with around 40 angry voters but kept his composure. He allowed that though he was against the bill (he doesn't have a clue how we are going to pay for our share since the state is near bankrupt) he doesn't think the lawsuits are going to be successful and it would cost at least $70,000 to the state to call a special session.  The state budget office figures Obamacare will cost the state of Arkansas 100-200 million) Needless to say, we as a group disagreed strongly. After 10 minutes or so of argument he said he was late for a funeral and we let him leave. He is aware we exist, however.

Video added today. I am visible in this clip but not recognizable.

It looks like Chris Dodd's heir apparent, Chicken Dick Blumenthal is going on a witch hunt against The Humane Society.  I've got mixed feelings about the H.S. because on one hand, I got the greatest dog in the world from one of their facilities while, on the other, I'm aware of their ties to PETA.

Nonetheless, this looks like a case of the H.S. fighting back against unionization and a Dem A.G. going after them for that unforgivable sin.

The Communist Science Monitor looking into the grave threat of militias

Chicago – A former federal prosecutor who helped convict Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh suggests that the great risk of America's growing militia movement is not necessarily in the militias themselves, but in their capacity to spark rogue actors like Mr. McVeigh, whose 1995 attack on the Murrah Federal Building killed 168 people.

Then, as now, the president was a Democrat seen to be liberal (President Clinton versus President Obama). Then, as now, he had recently pushed though a controversial piece of legislation (the federal assault weapons ban versus healthcare reform). And then, as now, an extremist fringe was warning of a pending government takeover.

I thought that Barry is a centrist. The media is hoping for another Oklahoma city to the point of inventing one if they have to.

Via Drudge: Clinton Blasted for Pushing Abortion in Canada

"You cannot have maternal health without reproductive health. And reproductive health includes contraception and family planning and access to legal, safe abortion," she told reporters when asked about Canada's G8 initiative.

Reacting to Clinton's comments, Mary Ellen Douglas, national organizer for Campaign Life Coalition (CLC), told LifeSiteNews (LSN), “How dare she stick her pro-abortion nose into Canadian politics.  Hasn't she done enough damage to the unborn in the U.S.?”

I guess this smashing victory can be chalked up, once again, to The Lady Gaga Doctrine of International Affairs;

Hillary Clinton while boarding her plane, was overheard trilling, "I want your love, I don't want to be friends."

She then jetted off into the sunset, bound to Aruba for three fun-filled days and two glorious nights of simulated lesbian bondage in the surf and sand.

LOL, reminds me of when a friend of mine came out from CA during the spring a few years ago. We went out to the club that I used to be a member of to play a round of golf.

The ladies went as well and rode in a separate cart behind us. Leaving the 4th tee we got halfway down the fairway and noticed the ladies were missing.

They had pulled off the fairway and were off to the side digging up flowers that had been planted around some bushes. When I asked what they were doing the response was "aren't these lovely flowers? They are just growing here so we figured we would take some home".

This simply is not true.  The sad fact is that there are too many women who throw out the "you're not a football fan are you?" in the beginning.  And then spend way too much energy on getting the man to change.

I am lucky in this respect in that I changed Mrs. Circa into a bonafide football junkie.  I'm evil like that.

P.S.:  I am concerned that if this thread reaches 100 comments at its least widest point, it could capsize and burst into flames.

84 We all, of course, remember when NOW, Jesse and all the other professional aggitators organized a boycott of the Master's advertisers because the club does not admit women. Instead of caving, Augusta simply said, fine, we will run the tournament without commercials.

Right response.  Although it is kind of a funny tradition to maintain.

Speaking of men/women/"sports," I was looking into some NRA classes for Mr. Y-not and I and I found that the classes seem to be segregated by gender.  I don't understand why.  Is it that guys would be too distracted by the combination of their two favorite things - chicks and guns - to shoot straight?

We went skeet shooting with a friend years ago and I had a slight knack and thought it was fun.

The NRA classes I found were in Chino and run by the Freedom First Firearms School, btw, if there are any SoCalers out there who can give me some input.  The group seemed a little more political than I was seeking.  I'd rather hook in to some Ducks Unlimited types but I can't find an active chapter down here.

I dreaded spring when I was growing up in Maryland 'cause it just meant summer was coming with its humidity and - yes, I'll admit this, I was an over-eager student - school was out of session.  But it is pretty sweet out here in Cal with all of the citrus in bloom and whatnot.

Maybe gender segregated shooting isn't such a bad idea:  I find that my husband can be a bit...take charge at the range.  He's a great shot, but sometimes a bit overwhelming (notice I am being very diplomatic in my choice of adjectives).  I have noticed this in a few other guys; I think it's a guy/gun thing.  Thing is though, once a woman gets used to handling a firearm, they are often on average the better shots...this could be a problem for some men.

For the record, my husband is a better shot than me -- but it has to do with his eyesight being 20/10 and not having an astigmatism (which I have been cursed with); it can mess with my sighting (it's gotten worse as I've gotten older too).

Yeah, I realize that.  It's just the "out front" part I'm not keen on, NTTAWWT I would like to get away from politics occasionally.  I'm not unsympathetic, but I really am more interested in shotgun sports, including possibly hunting someday, and I liked what I learned about DU (Mr. Y-not interviewed for a job there several years ago).  I also like their blend of conservation stuff.  It might be the sort of thing I could get involved in as a volunteer or semi-professionally with my biology and fundraising background.  I haven't checked recently, but the last I looked there didn't seem to be an active DU group down here... guess it's too dry or something?

Anyhoo, I know what you mean about women and gun sports.  When a bunch of us neophytes went with our buddy way back when, the girls were better at the skeet shooting.  I think it's because we didn't try to horse the shotgun, we just pivoted and aimed.  The guys were stronger and the neophyte guys seemed to be trying to "point" the weapon with their arms.  'Don't know if this makes sense, but that's how it seemed.

Since Rhode Island has so many white people, and Obama hasn't visited the site of the disaster, shouldn't the media hold him to the same standard?

Easy enough to cure... just join in the conversation with your own advice.  Nothing kills the baby talk faster than a frank assessment of the odds that they'll have broken up by the end of the month, and that the only memory he'll have of her is the discomfort from the STD screening afterwards.

You may want to reevaluate whether it's really the baby talk that's getting on your nerves.  I once had a new employee assigned to a cube next to mine who talked on the phone all day about how she was going to buy a car with the earnings from her job.  She was canned within two weeks because she was not productive.  It turned out that one of her primary roles was supposed to be taking call overflow from different customer-service groups in the organization, but she let those calls roll past her spot in the hunt group.

That "all day" was not an exaggeration.  She talked at least six hours of her eight-hour shift on the telephone about inane shit--mostly about the car she was going to buy.  She reminded me of a six-year-old obsessing over a Christmas toy.

My point was that it isn't necessarily content that bugs me.  For me, it's the very idea of somebody speaking loudly enough on the phone for others to hear.  There's supposedly something programmed in our heads that compels us to pay attention to conversations when you can hear only one side.  After a person stops talking and starts listening to the person on the other end of the line, it trips the "were you talking to me?" circuit in our brains.

I kind of lost interest in it after trying it out for a few weeks.  The format is jumbled and - I realize this is blasphemy in some parts - Treacher isn't funny enough to be worth the trouble of finding his stuff.  Plus, I thought the posts about his hit and run thing were overdone... whiny and self-involved.

Basically, it seems like a pretty journalism-y place.

This RNC story smacks of lazy, path of least resistance stuff.  They clearly have connections in the RNC - because they are supposedly conservatives - and are milking those.  No analysis (I still haven't seen meaningful analysis of RNC's fundraising operation, just breathless posts about exorbitant (supposedly) expenses) and no comparisons to political fundraising trends across the country and over time.  I haven't learned anything from their stories.

I like BigGov etc better.

Getting some halfwit libertard to give you more than the time a day is annoyingly simple.  Spout the same political nonsense they espouse and give them just enough well timed "sensitivity" and they're counting ceiling tiles.

I got one of my weekly e-mail round-ups today from a parents site and it announced a new iPad application “iPeed” for home pregnancy tests. That’s a funny April Fools joke.

laceyunderalls, not sure if you were being April Foolsy about the girl with encephalitis and growths with hair and eyeballs, but there have definitely been documented cases where they’ve found that one twin has “ingested” the other twin in the uterus.

273 63 What constitutes a sport?

Not being golf is a good start.

Posted by: Waterhouse at April 01, 2010 10:05 AM (rOd1g)

have to agree, I'm a golfer...I'm fat, I smoke & drink beer all while playing. Any "sport" in which these activities can take place while doing it...is not a sport...Its a hobby a lifestyle & good fucking time!

Breaking news:

Guam has been seen lazily listing left no word as to what the extent of the damage is but reports say Al Gore is in route as we speak. Local government is deperatly urging citizens to flea to the right side of the island.

New Jobless Claims Drop More Than Expected

I swear you canÂ’t make this shit up folks. In any case they are still using calculus to spin the unemployment numbers. (The rate of change is slowing)

275 108 Can someone explain to me what Hepatitis C has to do with diminished mental capacity?

Posted by: laceyunderalls at April 01, 2010 10:25 AM (pLTLS)

Lacey, I'm not a doctor, although I did play one a few times when I was a kid. That said, I did a web search and found that Hep C doesn't seem to cause diminished mental capacity, but it does cause cirrhosis, which will cause a condition called encephalopathy, which results in "Symptoms such as confusion and memory and concentration problems."

Discussion topic: What percentage of Democrats have encephalopathy?

The icky part: they found these freaky tumors on her ovaries.....with hair and eyeballs!

Posted by: laceyunderalls

lacey, those are called dermoid tumors/cysts.  I had my right ovary removed 2 years ago because of this problem.  At work they decided to give it a name. Hilarity ensued.

They can occur in the sinuses and the spinal cord too.

281 I saw the one where they changed "unexpectedly drop" to the actual numbers.  Still, you know it's going to be revised later.  Which makes it just about as meaningful as any other April Fool's article.  At least the date fits.

288 Hmmm..

Turns out that Lupe Lerma is kind of a bitch.

Won't give her last name when you get snotty with the Governors office...

But, pretty fucking simple to call Jan Brewer's office right back and ask the last name of the insufferable bitch who I probably got transferred to.

How frickin' evil is Lupe Lerma that she is the go to gal, when it comes to pointed political questions and also the spokesperson for "everything is O-KAY.?

Fuck Jan Brewer and especially fuck Lupe Lerma.

I could die happy, if only I could know that Lupe Lerma, her children and all of her grand-children would be despicable cripples that a "truly sensible" health care board would decide to murder.

In front of her.

They really need a Jane's Fighting Ships reference manual.  Or maybe this is the older Somali pirates' way of weeding out the new recruits.
