A middle aged Jewish guy is absent-mindedly crossing the road, and gets hit by a car. Onlookers rush to check he's okay, clear his airways and take care of him until the ambo arrives.

"Are you comfortable?" one concerned onlooker asks him.

He shrugs. "I make a living," he says.

Ahh, good morning.  Nothing like a rousing fight on a non-political blog with a raging kool aide drinker (raging -- will defend things they might actually disagree with if it comes from "their side").  On one hand, it's getting the old brain synapse firing, on the other well I have an old brain and the synapse are calling for more coffee.

Any good arguements I could use against her?  It's about the Planned Parenthood/Girl Scout kerfluffle.  I've already tried to bait her with asking if Margaret Sanger was her hero -- wouldn't bite, but it did piss her off.  Now I'm smacking her with plausible deniablity vs. evidence and the stupidity of that defense in this situation.

17 13  Probably a wise prediction -- I think they'll try to marginalize her by way of sloughing her off.  We will see if that's an effective strategy -- I have a feeling it won't be.

Ask her what kind of badge they give out for having an abortion. I also enjoy telling them that Planned Parenthood is a "for profit" organization. They usually don't know that--they think it is some kind of public service or the red cross--coming to the rescue. Ask her if she really approves of corporate propaganda for profit, mind you, being foisted on young girls who don't know they are being "sold".

On top of that, the feds give money to a corporation to help them make profits. It's simply a death mill. Picture the "poor houses" of the 19th century europe who took in the poor and worked them to death for profit. Same thing without the work.

23 Any good arguements I could use against her?

That would make any difference?  Doubtful.  By and large I've found that arguing facts, logic and reason to most libs is completely pointless.  They are all about emotive arguments and never willing to admit their wrong.  You're generally better off shouting at a brick wall, the wall tends to pay more attention that most libs.

It's about the Planned Parenthood/Girl Scout kerfluffle.

Well, I haven't seen any iron clad proof on this one way or the other, but considering the amount of indoctrination that Planned Parenthood and it's allies try to force into public schools sadly I wouldn't be all that surprised.  The perversity they try to pass off as sex "education" is just shameful.

19 Oh, there is no converting on this one.  Hell, I'm not a conservative or a Republican myself (which always makes her head pop, then she starts in with the "yes you are, yes you are, yes you are!!!!"), but at the very least one can learn to think for oneself...this one does not think for herself at all.  If you can't think enough to question things that "your side" (I have a problem with that too, but I digress), that you yourself would be against if you didn't know which "side" brought it up well, then you are a hopeless little drone and a sheep; there's no logical reason to waste one's time on such a person.

She likes to go on attack mode though (and I'm now her favorite target -- I can't bring up anything anymore, of a remotely socio-political or economic nature without her trying to start a fight, even if she agrees with the basic premise)...so it's fun to toy with her a lot.  Gets a lot of that negative energy out of your system -- and on a worthy target.  Silly drip, she always attacks me personally too, usually well before the end of it; is it wrong to get enjoyment out of other people's meltdowns?

30 Congress is poised to miss its April 15 deadline for finishing next yearÂ’s budget without even considering a draft in either chamber.

Unlike citizensÂ’ tax-filing deadline, CongressÂ’s mid-April benchmark is nonbinding. And members seem to be in no rush to get the process going.

Indeed, some Democratic insiders suspect that leaders will skip the budget process altogether this year — a way to avoid the political unpleasantness of voting on spending, deficits and taxes in an election year — or simply go through a few of the motions, without any real effort to complete the work.

25 Well, the Girl Scouts are now denying any association with PP whatsoever, but somebody dug up a quote from 04 where their director publicly stated that they work closely with other groups, and PP was one of the groups explicitly mentioned.  Plus, nobody else at that conference was there for anything remotely concerned with the topic of the brochure...but the Girl Scouts.

The Girl Scouts are not really repudiating the brochure at this point, rather they are repudiating any connection to PP...which has been busted.  So that is an arguement in favor of there being a connection the GS would not like known -- just following the usual laws of rhetoric and arguement.

Agreed.  Similar to a recent experience of mine on a blog - the other guy would make whatever argument was convenient to oppose mine, even though it was intellectually lazy and incoherent.  His own knowledge of liberalism was shallow at best, and all he wanted to do was oppose every argument I made regardless because I was "the enemy".

32 To answer my own question: Marketing. PP is in the schools but it likes to market itself in every venue. Sorta like taking ads out in the newspapers, magazines, tv, radio, sides of busses. We wouldn't want a baby to go unaborted. They lose cash with every birth.

I'll never understand a group of people who are anti "big oil" but are pro "big death". These are the same people who are pro smoking laws and transfat laws yet they support corporate propaganda pushing abortion. The idea that these idiots bought the "sham-wow" of abortion for what? The idea that women have the right? Fine but how often is your right sold to you for cash money? It makes the gun lobby/insurance companies  look like pikers.

32  Well, apparently, the GS do work with PP to provide "safe sex information" (ha!) to young girls -- that's taken from the quote from 04; so does the YMCA (apparently it too has connections with PP in distributing safe sex info to young people through brochures).

PP is considered source #1 for any sort of safe sex/contraceptive advice and teaching by most institutions, due to the nondenominational, nonreligious, all encompassing nature of PP (they reach out to everyone and do not discriminate!).  Their stuff was the only information provided at a drug/alcohol rehab for teens that I have working knowledge of.

40  What concerns me most about this new twist isn't the abortion language (although it is there) -- this is condoning (encouraging and inciting even) young people who are HIV positive to not inform their sex partners until when or if they decide it does not impinge upon their "freedom to enjoy sex".

Personally, I don't think it's at all responsible for anyone to encourage young teens to go out and do the bedsheet tango, but this goes beyond that, and this actually has much more deadly and wider implications than encouraging abortions (which at the very least are not an infective agent).

43 41 For god's sake. How much safe sex info do they need? My kids are in catholic school and always have been where NO safe sex information is given and they are perfectly well informed on safe sex. It's everywhere. It's about marketing. Familiarize yourself with the brand name of PP. Think about PP and you know they want to "help you." Same with their drug/alcohol info--marketing for their abortion mill.

Hey, the partner wouldn't have sex with them if they knew they were HIV positive. Not having sex greatly reduces the chance of conception and therefore of abortion.

This "safe sex" crap is designed to increase the chance of conception not lower it. There is always contraception failures. They then rush in to "save the day"----for a price.

72  The sad thing, for me at least, is that the most strident abortion supporters I've ever met have been young women and men.

I'm on the line with abortion: on one hand, I don't feel as though I have a right to dictate yes or no; it's a grey area for me.  Rather, it is the individual's choice -- choose wisely and well, be prepared to live with the consequences either way -- I will support the access to good health care (although that is a moot point now).  However, I don't believe it is smart to not know some of the more seedy aspects of the pro choice movement -- and the big one there is PP, an organization I hate like the plague.

Posted by: unknown jane at April 12, 2010 09:34 AM (5/yRG)

75

79  I think it is a pretty valid prediction, because goodness knows going into full bore attack mode has seriously backfired for them.  Whether it would work for them is very much up for debate -- no, she doesn't poll well with most independents, but backing off from her holds it's risks for them as well.  They essentially are stuck in a quandary with her -- ignoring her won't work, neither will attacking her (not anymore, not really); and agreeing with her probably is impossible at this point for them, for psychological reasons (plus nobody would believe them at this point, and again, as a tactic it wouldn't work well in the long run).

With that, I seriously question their intelligence.

It hasn't made the headlines here, but Jack Agnew, one of four surviving members of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment's "Filthy 13" Demolitions Platoon, and one of the only members of the 101st to jump at Bastogne with the Pathfinders for the resupply drop has passed away.

Jack was 88 years old, happened on Thursday. The story is now on Fox News and elsewhere. I met Jack a couple times. Great guy. Lifetime NRA member since the 1930s who donated old copies of American Rifleman that the NRA Museum was missing.
