Normally I'd agree, but I visited the French Quarter before Katrina.  You could not find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy in the galaxy.  The only thing Katrina did to the French Quarter was wash the vomit off the streets.

My favorite FQ story: a six year old and an eight year old had bottle caps affixed to their shoes and were tap dancing for money.  Some tourist gave the six year old a dollar.  The eight year old walked over and punched the six year old dead in the face and took the dollar.  Then the stupid tourist took the dollar away from the eight year old and gave it back to the six year old.  I still wonder just how bad a beating that six year old got later.

Ed Koch Blasts Obama On Israel

Koch pointedly accused Obama of trying to "so weaken the resolve of the Jewish state and its leaders that it will be much easier to impose on Israel an American plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, leaving IsraelÂ’s needs for security and defensible borders in the lurch."

And he added, "I believe President Obama’s policy is to create a whole new relationship with the Arab states of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt, and Iraq as a counter to Iran – The Tyrannosaurus Rex of the Muslim world which we are now prepared to see in possession of a nuclear weapon. If throwing Israel under the bus is needed to accomplish this alliance, so be it."

34 Vic, I think you are thinking about Sea Gulls. Here is a rule ALLOWING you to kill the shit out of them.

From the the Internet Wildlife Management site maintained by several agricultural colleges:

Crows are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, a federal act resulting from a formal treaty signed by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, under this act, crows may be controlled without a federal permit when found “committing or about to commit depredations upon ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock, or wildlife, or when concentrated in such numbers and manner to constitute a health hazard or other nuisance.”

States may require permits to control crows and may regulate the method of take. Federal guidelines permit states to establish hunting seasons for crows. During these seasons, crows may be hunted according to the regulations established in each state. Regulations or interpretation of depredation rules may vary among states, and state or local laws may prohibit certain control techniques such as shooting or trapping. Check with local wildlife officials if there is any doubt regarding legality of control methods.

Yes you can kill them, but under specific rules. I doubt if anti-freeze falls in one of those categories.

Do you want to kill the crows, or just get them the hell away from your place?  Poison will only work for a little while; they'll learn not to eat anything you leave out for them (you'll probably kill more of anything else than you will the crows).  Then they'll just roost at your place (still making the noise) but won't eat anything.

Crows have a very high intelligence for grasping cause/effect concepts.

You might be better off getting one of those owl decoys and moving it around frequently -- owls often raid crow nests, so crows will either vacate the area or mob the owl.  I suggest an owl decoy rigged with some flash-bangs.  Make the environment a pita, and the crows will leave.

57 Kemp; you are in SC right?  Here is what they say about crows in SC:

Crows
A hunting license and free Migratory Bird (HIP) Permit are required to hunt crows. Crows are migratory birds and as such, are a federally- protected species. The season is based on criteria established by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The open season for crows on private lands in South Carolina is November 1 - March 1. There is no bag limit. During the open season on private lands, crows may be taken with any firearm, bow and arrow, or by falconry. Crow hunting on WMA lands is permitted. During the open season for small game hunting on WMAs, crows may only be hunted with weapons legal for small game. In Game Zone 1 no buckshot or rifles greater than .22 rimfire may be used except during deer and bear season (50-11-380). The use of electronic calls for crow hunting is permitted statewide on private land and WMA land. Crows damaging crops may be taken at any time without a federal permit (50 CFR 21.43).

56  Ok, my nefarious and somewhat cracked plan is out:

Crows are highly intelligent, especially with cause/effect concepts, and they learn from each other.  Get a crow taught that picking up money (coins are easiest, but paper money could be taught with time) and depositing it will get them a peanut (they love peanuts).  Pretty soon more crows learn from the one crow...and you have a nice little stash of cash, for peanuts, literally.

Yes, when I was a kid we had a pet crow, Joe.  This does work -- although the legalities are something I'd have to figure out.  But hey, if society goes to hell in a handbasket anything is on the table (including crow, if the little bastiges decide to go on strike).

If you give them some spiel about protecting your property or anything that could be construed as "harming" the poor crows you'll wind up in a federal prison.  Make yourself sound like a left wing loon and you could be out there flinging high explosives nude and nobody will say boo to you.

87  I suppose it isn't any more out of line than the 20something girl I know who's constantly complaining to everyone about how awful her life is with no job and no money...but wouldn't be able to LIVE without her cell phone. (couldn't go on existing without a cell...really?)

These people wouldn't even make good hobos; why do I see a mass extinction in the making here?

85 Jane, Beck is slipping.  Posted some of it on the other thread.  Apparently, she is a teacher.principal for like 30 years...surprised?  And she is very active in water rights and her Indian tribes....guess she was able to check that box on the college app and make sure she got in....

Wait until Beck finally digs all this up...

Thou shalt accept how she clearly humors you. Do not, by any means, stare at the beckoning gap at the top of her shirt. Do not, sir, stare at her hindquarters when she retreats.

Busted.

She could afford broadband if she wasn't putting her pension up her nose.

Kemp; you are in SC right?  Here is what they say about crows in SC:
"Assorted gov. bs"

In SC we shoot 'em.  Just a couple though and then hang 'em in a tree.  Gee, not suppose to do that?   Probably would work for some other n'er do wells but the only other thing that comes to mind is census workers.  Never mind.  It probably won't work for anything else.

93 anyone else see that John Tesh banged out Oprah while they were working in Nashville? as reported by Kitty Kelley... WTF? is there any more random pairing than that? surely this deserves its own post for the morons.

Tried that hanging in the tree shit.  They start to smell pretty quickly.  Flies are next.  Didn't work anyway.  It's a country myth.

97 Well Kemp, I guess people just keep missing all those posts that say you are inside the city limits.

Posted by: Vic at April 13, 2010 10:47 AM (QrA9E)

98 Ref the crows. Since you're in the city, break into a convienient hospital and take all the radio-isotopes you can find. Spray them all over the place - gamma emmiters would be best but alpha emmiters are ok if you put them in bait. There's a small chance you'll get Hulk-Crows but I wouldn't worry about it.

Posted by: Comrade Arthur at April 13, 2010 11:20 AM (hsKiT)

99 Hell those little pissant things from the hospitals will not do anything. Go for broke. Find a place that does radiography of pipe welds and steel their radiography source.

Just make sure that you have it pointed to the crows and you use a nice long cord to open the shutter.  It would be easy to kill that Moron as well as the crows.

100 Kemp,
I am not a fan of the Humane Society, but they do seem to have a comprehensive fact sheet.

Mrs. North and I just put the kids on the school bus.  She's in the shower right now, washing her breasts.

We're going to Washington, DC today.

I have a list of 66 moron Congressweasels, cross-referenced with their caucus (in the case of the Blue Pigs) and their relevant committee assignments.

My message is simple:

NO to the VAT,

NO to AMNESTY,

REPEAL, don't REPLACE, healthcare,

and in the case of the Senators

NO to CAP and TRADE.

We're watching you and waiting.  We may never in my life vote for someone who believes as you do, but we're eagerly awaiting your votes, in order to see who we should be sending money to defeat, who we should be phone banking against, etc., etc.

I carry with me, I hope, your blessings.
