Well it seems that the two big stories in the media today are still the Goldman Sachs farce on capital hill and the Nazi outbreak in AZ.  The media still refuses to acknowledge that the law does NOT give Gestapo authority to AZ police to stop and demand papers from brown skinned individuals because they “look illegal”. I actually expect that issue to have a short attention span with the media because it really doesnÂ’t help the communists in reelection this fall.

 

From an “importance to the country” standpoint the Goldman Sacks hearings, like all other congressional hearings, mean absolutely NOTHING.   Too bad that most of the unwashed proles out there do not understand that. The sole purpose of a congressional hearing, regardless of Party, is to give the politicians publicity and to attempt to embarrass the other side.  In this case the hearing is part of a two-pronged attack on Republicans in what the communists in this administrating think is the Republican Party weakness, big business. The second front in the attack is the new Dodd bill to re-regulate Wall Street AND all other businesses that the government deems to be “too big to fail”.

 

On that second front the Dems in the Senate have been warned by the WH to refuse to compromise on any score in the bill.  This is in an effort to force the Republicans to filibuster the bill so the commies can brand them as obstructionists and “friends of evil Wall Street”.   Never mind that there is NOTHING in the bill to cure what actually caused this mess.  But then again, that is the same as all other congressional legislation for after the fact government caused fiascos.

 

We on the conservative side should keep a few things in mind as the events play out. This is the typical Democrat playbook leading into an election.  They fully expect the media to carry their water for them and assist in painting the Republicans as evil big business clones and enemies of the common man.  And they will get what they fully expect.

 

We should keep our eyes open for weak-kneed Republicans who are afraid of the media and who will bend to accommodate the Dems playbook.  We should also keep our eyes on the Republicans who think they are Democrats (.e.g Lindsay Graham-DIABLO-SC). 

 

This is the year of the conservative and the last chance to stop this anti-American communist administration from destroying the country.  We must keep up the skeer on the politicians and hold their feet to the fire.

As has been stated previously, PR statehood has been voted on multiple times over the last few decades and the status quo has won every time. Polling has always showed that the people of PR prefer commonwealth status, and why shouldn't they? They are US citizens, they have all the rights and privileges of citizenship, including the right to vote if living on the mainland, they can come and go to the mainland as they please, they get welfare and all the other stuff, and they pay no income taxes on the island.

This isn't about PR at all, it's about advancing leftism in the US.

As for PR, I am not too worried about it. The Puerto Ricans will vote it down once again.

And even if they don't I don't expect to see PT admitted as a State unless another State is admitted at the same time that balances the political alignment. The politicians will never allow it otherwise unless one party or the other has absolute dominance of congress.

Was just reading the wiki page.  we have incorporated and unincorporated territories and some are insular and some are not.  Puerto Rico is grouped with Guam, the North Mariana Islands, the Virgin Islands and Guam. 

Palmyra Atoll was not part of Hawaii when it became a state, apparently this was deliberately done.  the phillipines?

As someone who consideres himself a quasi-libertarian, the problem is there isn't a standard set of beliefs for libertarians. People who are agnostic about many issues tend to just generically call themselves libertarians.

I think one of my issues with the mainstream libertarian movement is their view on national defense. In my heart I don't want america to have bases all over the world, or have americans dir for people who will spit on us after we free them, or spend one dollar defending a nation that isn't america. However, there is a reality that I have to accept and that is Pax Americana, no matter how costly to us, is better for the world than the alternative. If we were ever to withdraw from the world, it would spark off massive regional wars. When a major power leaves a vacuum it doesn't remain a vacuum, nations step forward to fill the void and often violently.

This doesn't mean we can't leave some nations, or be involved a little less in some areas, however a complete withdraw to isolationism isn't practical.

I think that is the main reason I can't call myself a full fledged libertarian or join the libertarian party.

Also I am not sure what their stance on immigration is.

Careful.  A libertarian is a Republican who smokes pot.  Though Ben is right, there's not a standard set of beliefs, so any kook who wants less government in his favorite area can call himself a libertarian.

I would disagree about Pax Americana though.  America has more to gain from peace and normal trade relations than any other country, because we have a bigger economy and more trade than any other country.  So I'm OK with accepting more than our share of the "World's Policeman" burden.  Just not all of it, for crying out loud.  And I'd appreciate a little cooperation from the weenies on the sidelines.

Also, it's very comforting to me to have the most bad-ass military in the history of the world.  So maybe I'm not a libertarian, just a Republican who smokes pot.

I'm sure Mel Kiper was one of the stupid fuzznuts that thought Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Akili Smith and Jamarcus Russell would be outstanding NFL quarterbacks and were quite happy with Tom Brady not being drafted until the sixth round and Kurt Warner playing arena football.  The draft is a complete crapshoot where idiots make barely educated guesses on things that aren't quantifiable.  John Unitas and Len Dawson failed to latch on initially in the NFL; often it's a case of finding a good fit.

i think you agree with me. I was saying, deep down in my heart I wish we didn't have to sacrifice on behalf of others, but in reality we do. We do have a lot to lose if we recede into isolationism.

Not the ones I've met.  They are really much more fringe than that.  They reject government on a much deeper level. 

The pot-smoking thing is a loser issue, imho, because it either says that their priorities (not to mention their understanding of human physiology) are way off base or that they are copacetic with the notion that we can all pick and choose which laws we want to follow.  Either position is unacceptable to me. 

But beyond the pot issue, the libertarians I've spoken with really don't give a damn about anyone else.  Now, I think it's fine to say that the private sector should shoulder the bulk of life's issues and challenges, but it is naive to think that everything can be handled that way and that government does not have some role to help the most unfortunate. 

Hell, some of the libertarians I've met don't even accept a role for local government.  I mean, they are against public parks, libraries, and all the other things that local governments do at the direction of their citizens.

So basically my hit off of these folks is "I've got mine and I don't give a rat's ass what happens to any of my fellow citizens." 

Maybe it's because my dad was a social worker (probation officer), but no amount of ideological purity arguments will persuade me that there is no role for government in trying to get people back on track and self-sufficient.

I can't listen or watch either anymore. I am not home at 5 to watch his show anyway. But I can't stand his radio show anymore. I used to tune in to laugh, no I turn it off because it isn't funny anymore. His show used to be pure right wing comedy. Now glenn essentially treats the audience as his psychologist and just talks about whatever is on his mind at any given time. The worst is when he leans in real close to the microphone, speaks in a deep deep tone of voice, and makes long pauses to emphasize what he is saying.

Here's a snippet you guys might enjoy.

I hear Katie Couric"s "Notebook" on my radio, and before I switch to another station I here her little commentary, and found it to be hilarious.

The subject was "anonymous sources", and she starts off by acknowleging (practically celebrating) the case of Woodward and Bernstein. Then she gets into how various major media have all these big-deal standards in place to check the validity of claims by such sources (gee Katie, ever heard of Dan Rather? - That guy you replaced who was canned for not verifying his sources!?!), and then laments about how no such standards exist for blogging.

She sums up with a short sermon that basically said that anonymous sources should man-up and disclose who they are - to show that they're serious about standing by what they say, or something like that.  Which is hilarious for many reasons, but I thought it especially so because in the example she gave applauding Woodward and Bernstein, their main source stayed secret for something like 40 years - until he died. For good reason, I might add.

Few carryable pistols have the muzzle velocity to self destruct a hollow point bullet, and even those that do only do so at close range, as pistol bullets have poor ballistics and lose velocity quickly. They will ricochet off of a hard surface. They do make friable bullets that would be a good choice for populated areas, as they break up upon impact. One other thing, most hollow point pistol bullets require at least 800 FPS to expand appreciably, so if you don't have at least 850 fps from the muzzle, you are wasting money on hollow points.

As an aside, the .380 is pretty puny. Hollow Points are unlikely to expand on a soft target at .380 velocities. He made a good shot to put the Coyote down with just one. Brain, spine, or lungs. A heart shot would put him down quickly too.

That is what really needs to happen.  That would make the "L's" happy because it would eliminate all federal drug laws and leave it up to the States.

Most of the issues were absolute BS but they had to be debated or tabled for a later meeting where the original team would address them. I used to hate those meetings and I would avoid them with a passion.

Well, speaking from very recent experience, they are entitled only to half of retirement/401K funds accumulated during the marriage, not half of the entire balance (which when you think about it, turned my marriage into the equivalent of a long-term relationship with a prostitute.) So any balance in the accounts before the marriage are yours to keep.

Now, the market crisis caused by the f*tards in Congress did manage to take half of my 401K, without even the benefit of reach around...
