Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I really think that the administration's and media's (redundent) narrative on the Tea Parties is going to blow up in their collective faces.

I wrote on some post yesterday that I'm skeptical of polls in general, but Gallup only confirmed what I've seen with my own eyes.  That is, the movement is made up of normal Americans concerned about the direction that the country is taking.  If the administration continues to push the racist/militia/homphobe/etc. meme through their willing media lapdogs it will end badly for them all.  As much as we joke about it here, people don't like being falsely accused and it's my guess that people are turning off the official propaganda channels and educating themselves.  The more they learn, it seems, the less they like what they're seeing.

Despite the fatboy check I'll have to write, I'm actually looking forward to the 15th.  It should be interesting.

I've been in the environmental business for over 20 years.  I can tell you that I see no reason to have both.  As a matter of fact, the EPA is a useless money pit that does nothing except hinder development and generally make life difficult.

State environmental agencies, while sometimes a bit over-zealous, have skin in the game and, generally speaking, can be reasoned with.

Most utilities do not do the "brown out" thing anymore. It doesn't really work. They do rotating blackouts now when power gets tight and there are not enough reserves available to handle the load.

The bad thing is when they are hanging on the edge BEFORE they start the blackouts and a plant or line goes down somewhere.  That is when the big blackouts come around.

I don't know as I have been retired since this all come about. All I know is what I have read in the various bills that have been passed.  The news media never talks about it.

The pols keep talking about smart grid but what it boils down to is several different things that I have seen. (1) Building large interstate power lines - huge expense) (2) Installing remote controlled heavy load appliances in people's houses that can be shut down by the utility (3) Creating even more extensive regulatory environment in the utility business.

What we used to have as far as annual meetings go is at a more localized meeting for subdivisions of the utility. IOW, perhaps load dispatchers would have a meeting/workshop sponsored by some trade group to discuss plans for meeting all the new requirements. 

When and before I retired I attended (sometimes) annual meetings for my own work group in Pittsburgh. (Westinghouse)

I am sure someone has something set up.

Stupid idea and not just because it's another tax.  Why would you take one of the main products the state is known for and make it a less appealing product?  Tourists come to the wine regions to drink and appreciate California wines.  Why make that experience negative?

73 Bike lanes? Great idea; People in the Bay Area love them. Problem: If I take a bike, I still pay for roads with general taxes. Why not drive? I pay for so much of the cost already. Solution: Cut our general taxes, and make roads paid for exclusively by some combination of usage/mileage fees, tolls, and taxes on fuel and parts (oil, filters, tires, brakes, etc.). Then make bikers pay to use the bike lanes or paths according to the cost to build them. Then people could make the best decisions with their own money. I'll bet you'd see a lot more biking and bus riding. Privatize mass transit, and make them pay the fees (where applicable) as well.
