1 I suppose the buzz today will be all about Kagan the magnificent.

2 Is anyone else concerned about the Elder Gods (Kagan, Napolitano, Sotomayor) hiding in the upper reaches of our government? ...just me then?

3 Elena Kagan is magnificent. She is smart and beautiful. She has no agenda and has published extensively her middle-of-the-road viewpoint. Any Senator of the United States who does not vote to confiirm her is a racist homophobe right wing nazi.

7 Here's a "duh" story, but still one to put "in the end, there will be only chaos" file.

Israel says N.Korea shipping WMDs to Syria

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Tuesday accused nuclear power North Korea of supplying Syria with weapons of mass destruction...The cooperation between Syria and North Korea is not focused on economic development and growth but rather on weapons of mass destruction" Lieberman said.

ok, Fox has a story about how 2009 was the warmest year ever recorded in antartica. it was -54.2 F, the previous record was -54F.

Now I'm not a briliant climatologist, but i could have sworn that with negative numbers 54.2 is SMALLER than 54.

And I'm supposed to believe these idiots about global warming when a basic number line has them alll screwed up?

16 Hmm, so now Ben Franklin was a communist. Learn something new every day.

I really want to know where people learn this stuff.  Paying taxes isn't communist, every government needs income. The Tea Party just wants smaller government, because that's what works.

But then again, these people still think Sarah Palin said she can see Russia from her house (snapdragon, that was Tina Fey, in case you were wondering).

Any PA voters registered as Dems to vote May 18 should be aware that Toomey is only two points ahead of Sestak in a general election poll - (Rasmussen) - but he smokes Specter.

Two points is a voter fraud margin, which the Philly machine delivers so well.

21 I think this should be getting more attention. It's a shocker: Section 9006 of the health care bill -- just a few lines buried in the 2,409-page document -- mandates that beginning in 2012 all companies will have to issue 1099 tax forms not just to contract workers but to any individual or corporation from which they buy more than $600 in goods or services in a tax year. http://goo.gl/qeOq

22 Hmm, so now Ben Franklin was a communist.

50 years before Marx published, even.

He was a communalist; he believed the well-off should form civic organizations and use their wealth to benefit their communities...but that's a pretty far cry from advocating the government confiscate their wealth and give it to people who refuse to work for their own.

What?  No condescending lecture from Dr. Tom?  Where's the mojo, Tom?

Feingold is pimping.  Free publicity on a bill that will go nowhere.  He gets to hightlight his high standards at no cost. (I'd love to be proved wrong but I don't think these chumps will tie their hands like this.  How will they ever get that memorial library?)

28 18. I completely disagree on your recommendation. If Specter wins the dem primary, he will have a huge advantage in the general where R voters can swing to him. forget the polls, in a closed primary state like PA, they are beyond meaningless right now. Thinking Sestak has a better chance vs. Toomey than Specter does is foolish! Sestak might *try* to swing to the center, but his voting history and very obvious liberal tendencies will work against him. He won't convince many PA Republican or Independent voters that he's changed his stripes. Specter, on the other hand, can do that. He does in fact have the centrist/bipartisan record. Plus name recognition for the oldsters here (of which there are many many). PA is a closed primary system - any Dems or faux-Dems like me should be thinking of getting rid of Specter NOW, not later.

Posted by: BlackOrchid at May 11, 2010 06:08 AM (SB0V2)

29 29. Maybe you're right. But R voters here are not really that partisan. The Dem base will vote Dem regardless of anything. THEY will harden, for sure. Once the primary is past, it's yellow dog time.

From Rasmussen's May 10, 2010 report on PA elections:

Likely Republican nominee Pat Toomey still runs strongly against incumbent Senator Arlen Specter, but PennsylvanaÂ’s U.S. Senate contest is a dead heat if his Democratic opponent is Congressman Joe Sestak.

The results are from a survey of 1000 likely voters. Maybe Rasmussen is foolish, I don't know. However he seems to have a pretty good track record in predicting elections.

Sestak is a slimy bastid. During the non-Health Care debate, he weaselled around when asked direct questions about his support of the bill. Toomey will have his work cut out for him, his main advantage will be the anti-obama vote from the Indies.

Right now it's a dead heat, I don't look forward to sitting on pins and needles late into the night - and next morning next November - and then for weeks afterwards as Dem precincts find ballots in car trunks and under the sofa cushions. I was going to register as a Dem to vote in the primary, until I learned Corbett has a challenger so I stayed "R" and I'm casting my ballot for him.

Posted by: kallisto at May 11, 2010 07:05 AM (+FkcS)

32 Okay you've convinced me! I think. I was pondering your posts re: the Sestak/Specter thing while I was running. So . . . not that my little vote matters, but the best plan for those of us still mis-registered from Operation Chaos (can I be the only one?) to vote Spector? I suppose it is the best plan. And I'll toss a vote to Williams, he seems like a possible spoiler for gov. The other thing I hadn't thought of was the pro-life issue. Am assuming that Sestak is going to put up some prolife front? He might be able to, whereas Specter cannot.

Posted by: BlackOrchid at May 11, 2010 08:56 AM (SB0V2)

33 actually perhaps my best plan is to ask liberal friends how they're voting, and just do the opposite.

Posted by: BlackOrchid at May 11, 2010 08:57 AM (SB0V2)

34 34 All I know is that if it's Sestak, Toomey had better be on his game, and not allow Sestak to wiggle out of his documented Pelosi votes.
