I wanted to say to everyone that I really enjoyed the Lost series ender last night, even though I had never watched the show before. I should say *Especially* since I had never watched that show before!
This is because that show let me know that I had saved 6 years of wasted time by never bothering to try to figure out what turned out to be a pile of steaming dreck with no point whatsoever - except maybe that the afterlife is just like e-harmony, and after that who knows.

Obama approval drops to 44%. Maybe that's a "loss" he can capture in his imagination.
I don't think his pro-illegal anti-Arizona stance is going to help him in the short run.

Weasel Zipper is reporting an American tourist couple have been kidnapped in Yemen.
Now I have to ask; who wants to go to Yemen for sight-seeing and tourism? What is in Yemen worth looking at? And even if there was something there is that the place you want to go. Hell, the only place I can think of worse would be Somalia, NK, or Iran.

Good luck. It used to take me a month to get it cleaned up if I let it go green in the Spring. Hint, make damn sure the pH is right before putting in the shock and it will help a lot.

What's the best way to get the pH right?
Posted by: conscious, but incoherent at May 24, 2010 05:17 AM (YVZlY)
It depends on which way the pH has gone. Normally here it would go low due to the over abundance of pine trees. I would add "baking soda" to get it up (note you can buy that in 50 pound bags and it is a lot cheaper than normal pool chemicals).
If it goes high (rare) you have to add something to get it down.
Remember also that the proper pH range is determined by the type of liner you have.

Piss in it. But only if it's your neighbor's pool. And you don't plan on swimming there anytime soon.
If you have a bunch of friends over, you can tell them you're all gonna do your neighbor a favor. It'll help if all of you are drunk. And the neighbor's not home.

Vic, a number of years ago (obviously) when I still considered the NYT semi-readable, the Travel section on a Sunday had some photos of a walled city in Yemen that looked absolutely gorgeous and intriguing to visit. Even then, which was either in the late 80s or early 90s, the article had a caveat that the quisling cocksuckers in the State Dept strongly advised against travelling to Yemen for security reasons. It might've been a complete shithole within the mosaic walls, but the shot of it in the middle of a semi-mountainous area rising out of a desert was very compelling.

Or worse yet, a honeymoon. We had some overseas personnel at our office. A young Italian colleague told me about her honeymoon in Yemen. As she spoke, all I could think of were the lovely places within a two hour plane ride of her home in Italy that are fine honeymoon locales.
She told me that the whole country smelled like trash.

Syrian President Bashar Assad said Monday that the United States has lost its influence in the Middle East due to its failure to contribute to regional peace, in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
U.S. President Barack Obama "raised hopes" in the region, said Assad, but has failed to accomplish any significant peace maneuvers.

In the beginning, LOST had a nice combination of character development and an interesting premise. When I saw the first episode of LOST, it reminded me of that old video-game Myst, where the player is transported to a mysterious island and has to piece together what happened and why they are there.
At least LOST is over...

The House Democratic freshmen who rose to power riding candidate Barack Obama's coattails in 2008 are now eager to strut their independence heading into the midterms.
Some rookies opposed Obama's cap-and-trade climate change bill; others rejected his health care plan. But even those members who backed all of the president's signature initiatives are ready to show that they can win their first re-election bids without leaning on Obama's star power.
Star power? Only in the small minds of the media can Barry still be seen as popular.

Its funny how people never go to local laces for sight-seeing and tourism. I lived in the Bay Area in CA and never went to SF or any of the parks like Yosemite until AFTER I left. Took my wife out to see the sights there.

63% Favor Repeal of National Health Care Plan
Support for repeal of the new national health care plan has jumped to its highest level ever. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 63% of U.S. voters now favor repeal of the plan passed by congressional Democrats and signed into law by President Obama in March.

Massachusetts Dem Rear-Ended by Drunken Illegal
I was watching the local new in NYC last week (I've been stuck down here on a job since Feb.) and there was a story about a guy who blasted through a very busy intersection, taking out four teenage girls in the process. Luckily, they all survived.
A witness to the incident managed to followed the car when the driver fled the scene and managed to stop and hold the guy until the cops showed up. The driver of the hit and run vehicle was cited at the scene for a bunch of infractions, including driving without a license. That, coupled with the fact that he had a Hispanic surname, led me to suspect that he was an illegal alien.
Sure enough, the next day the news reported that he was in the country illegally. They went on to list all the possible fines and penalties might face if convicted. The last one was possible deportation.
Possible? WTF?

Headline from the article.
UN SAYS CASE FOR SAVING SPECIES MORE POWERFUL THAN CLIMATE CHANGE.
It appears that a change of tactics is in the offing for the eco fascists. The buzzwords of "global warming", "climate change", "carbon footprint" are going to replaced with the buzzwords "biodiversity", "mass extinction" and "biosphere preservation".
So..... again.....the greens are going to make another run at wealth redistribution under the guise of global governance with the pretense of "save the planet, we're all gonna die!!!!!!!". Perhaps if the Gaiaists would stick to arguing over how best to actually improve and protect the environment instead of haggling over the cost and how best to divvy up all that revenue, I could take them a little more seriously.

If judge idiot wants to belong to a union, then he can. Just sign up. Pay dues. The only point of forming a union is to force everybody else to pay dues.
I wish people would wake up to the idea that unions are not out to protect the "working man" by any stretch. Like any community organizer, union leaders want to organize in order to satisfy their own goals and just use the "community" as pawns.
Secondarily, it does seem that the legal profession is getting a little uppity in the age of Obama. This is especially a problem in the unaccountable judiciary.

On Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the story broke, Blumenthal held a press conference at the Veterans of Foreign War hall in West Hartford and tried to put the issue to rest. He expressed regret for those occasions when he has "misspoken" about his service, but never uttered the words "I am sorry.''The lack of an apology provided fresh fuel to his critics, with several veterans groups, editorial boards, Democratic state Sen. Ed Meyer and New Haven Mayor John DeStefano urging him to say he is sorry. The Courant sent an email to his campaign Sunday afternoon asking if an apology would be forthcoming and, several hours later, the campaign released his statement. WSJ also had two great op-eds last week on this doucherag. He is basically an out of control AG of the Elliot Spitzer variety.

Gibbs Turns Into Wonder Woman: http://fxn.ws/bDy75l
It was almost like White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs turned into Wonder Woman and was using her magical silver bracelets to deflect the onslaught of questions from two reporters Thursday afternoon.
Gibbs, who only resembled the superhero in fending off the assailants (he wasn't wearing a unitard or anything), managed to successfully not answer a question although it was asked of him 13 times in a row.
An awe-inspiring performance? Absolutely. But what else would you expect from the man who called the Obama White House the most transparent in the history of the nation.
Not that it was an important question. Just if the White House tried to bribe U.S. Rep Joe Sestak to drop out of Pennsylvania's Senate primary by promising him a big honking job.
And it's not like this is a crazy rumor started by some tinfoil-wearing nut bag. Sestak himself said it. Numerous times. As recently as Wednesday on CNN.
So was he offered a bribe or not? ABC's Jake Tapper took the first shot at Gibbs.
"Jake, I donÂ’t have anything to add to what I said in March," Gibbs replied.

>>Talking about the new 1099 law slicked in the health care bill that requires all peeps to file 1099 on 600 dollar exchanges. Also exploring the section that requires health benefits to be isolated and reported as income on W-2's yet according to Kiplinger, it won't be taxed.
I don't get it. Put me some fucking knowledge anyone?
Starting in 2011, (next year folks), your W-2 tax form sent by your
employer will be increased to show the value of whatever health
insurance you are given by the company. It does not matter if that's a
private concern or governmental body of some sort. If you're retired?
So what; your gross will go up by the amount of insurance you get.
You will be required to pay taxes on a large sum of money that you have
never seen. Take your tax form you just finished and see what $15,000
or $20,000 additional gross does to your tax debt. That's what you'll
pay next year. For many, it also puts you into a new higher bracket so
it's even worse.
This is how the government is going to buy insurance for the15% that
don't have insurance and it's only part of the tax increases.
Not believing this??? Here is a research of the summaries... ..
On page 25 of 29: TITLE IX REVENUE PROVISIONS- SUBTITLE A: REVENUE
OFFSET PROVISIONS-( sec. 9001, as modified by sec. 10901)
Sec.9002 "requires employers to include in the W-2 form of each
employee the aggregate cost of applicable employer sponsored group
health coverage that is excludable from the employees gross income."
Go to Kiplingers and read about 13 tax changes that could affect you. Number
3 is what is above.

The site I linked has this for "Cadillac" plans:
A new 40 percent nondeductible excise tax on individuals with plans costing more than $8,500 ($23,000 for families), which is adjusted for inflation. The threshold increases to $9,850 ($26,000 for families) for individuals with certain high-risk jobs or those older than 55 but not yet receiving Medicare. H.R. 4872 delays the start date of these taxes from 2013 until 2018. H.R. 4872 also raises the threshold for taxation to $10,200 for individuals ($27,500 for families). H.R. 4872 includes a less generous inflation index than H.R. 3590.
Both bills index the thresholds to the rate of the consumer price index for all urban consumers plus 1 percentage point, but the indexing in H.R. 4872 doesnÂ’t start until 2019, making it more likely that health insurance plans would be affected by the tax if health costs rise faster than overall inflation.
Under H.R. 4872, the threshold levels are adjusted for plans that are priced higher because of the age and gender of employees. The bill also excludes the value of dental and vision benefits from the thresholds.

In a statement, the White House said Seoul can continue to count on the full backing of the United States and said U.S. military commanders had been told to work with their South Korean counterparts “to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression.”
The administration said it endorsed President Lee Myung-bak’s demand that “North Korea immediately apologize and punish those responsible for the attack, and, most importantly, stop its belligerent and threatening behavior.”…
“U.S. support for South Korea’s defense is unequivocal, and the President has directed his military commanders to coordinate closely with their Republic of Korea counterparts to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression,” the statement said.

We use this on our fountain projects where we do not use chlorine and/or need a backup in case a maintenance dept. lets a feeder go empty.
In fancier pools with an ORP feeder system, Muriatic acid is fed in along with the calcium bound chlorine to keep the pH happy. Algae loves it when pH is a bit on the base side.
In parts of the country with high lime content, remember that as the water evaporates, the dissolved solids remain behind and can swing things to the base side without the addition of acid.

Can you imagine the media response and the mouth foaming outrage if the BP oil spill would have happened under George Bush? This really is Obama's Katrina, and his only real response has been to send U.S. attorneys down to Louisiana, yet not a word of criticism for our Double Prompting Dear Reader. From Michelle Malkin:
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said the state will not waiting for federal approval to begin building sand barriers to protect the coastline from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Oil has pushed at least 12 miles into LouisianaÂ’s marshes, with two major pelican rookeries awash in crude.
Gov. Jindal was critical of the amount of boom his state received to ward off the oil seeping toward the coastline. But his major gripe comes at the expense of the Army Corps of Engineers, who have yet to give the go-ahead for the building of sand booms to protect the Louisiana wetlands. He used photographic evidence of oil breaking through hard booms, soft booms and another layer of protection, before being finally being corralled by a sand boom built by the National Guard.
“It is so much better for us. We don’t want oil on one inch of Louisiana’s coastline, but we’d much rather fight this oil off of a hard coast, off of an island, off of an island, off of a sandy beach on our coastal islands, rather than having to fight it inside in these wetlands,” Gov. Jindal said, making the case for sand booms.
The governor said he has been forced to protect Louisiana without the approval of the Army Corps of Engineers, which is weighing the ecological impact of the construction of more sand booms.
“We are not waiting for them. We are going to build it,” Jindal said.

Too bad, we can't have the shores protected by hay and otherwise useless clippings blown along the shorelines by boats, airboats, volunteers, fishermen, barges, etc. and British Petroleum, why not? Because it's too simple, and inexpensive, and transparent. Instead, we must involve more big industry, big government, bureaucrats, committees, more cooks in the kitchen, with complicated Rube Goldberg siphoning equipment bound to break down frequently, costing millions. If big government gets involved, you can bet not all of the taxes
forevermore to be collected will be used for the purpose intended. Committees cost money - and waste more money.. Well, at least BP is siphoning off some of the oil.
How much? They're not telling us accurately how much is being siphoned off.

The worst reward was for the game "Ramapage" for NES. My sister and I took 4 hours to beat it, we played straight, because if you recall there was no "save game" for early NES. You either played it the entire way through or started over again.
Anyway, at the end, the screen says, "Congratulations You've Conquered America" or something like that, then went back to the start screen.

The problem for the eco-Nazis is that people are on to their game now. As Rush would say, the dirty little secret is that we know how they play with words and change them as deemed necessary when the peons catch on. What the Marxists/Communists/Envirowackos didn't plan for all these past decades was the massive spread of information via the Internet. It's surely throwing many a kink into their dasterdly grand scheme(s).
