3 Yes, the Friday before Memorial Day weekend.  Glorious.

Anyway, from the "in the end, there will be only chaos" news-file:

Hizbullah missile base in Syria

Satellite photos show that Hizbullah terrorists have been living in armed bases stocked with surface-to-surface missiles in Syria, The Times of London reported Friday. The photos show the Hizbullah members moving freely at a base in the Syrian city of Adra, near Damascus.

Not surprising , but I really think Syria's up to no good.  The Syrians helped some of Saddam's thugs escape and they have been a general PITA in the ME for the past 20 years, but they've really ramping it up these days.  Not to mention all the Nork assistance they've been getting with their weapons programs.

12 That's too bad about Gary Coleman. I watched Diff'rent Strokes and....what else was he on? I keep thinking Love Boat, but that's not right... Anyway, I'd occasionally see him on a talk show or something, but he never really "came back" as far as I know. The health things, the violence (didn't know about that), it's all a shame. 14 Syria is one of a very long list of nation-states who will, in the absence of someone more powerful to pull their leash, fill whatever power vacuum they see as advancing their interests.

Tom Friedman used to write about stuff like this before he decided that self-serving nepotistic oligarchy was the only proper form of government.

18 #7 Next time the shit hits the fan, I hope Israel takes out Assad once and for all.

Agreed.  Here's a good piece by Michael Totten on what Israel should do if attacked again. His conclusion:

Israel has a perfect record against standing state armies in the Middle East foolish enough to pick fights they canÂ’t win. So why agree to fight some of the very same states asymmetrically in wars with ambiguous endings?

The Israelis should consider returning to what they do best, if and when they have to fight again. If they want to beat their enemies rather than fight to bloody and destructive standstills, theyÂ’ll wage the kind of war theyÂ’re good at and shatter one or both of the governments that field third-party proxies against them.

19 Yahoo "news" is running this "story" from Slime Magazine

If it's true that the White House offered Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak a job to try to clear the Democratic Senate Primary for incumbent Arlen Specter, that's disturbing.

But not because anyone is participating in the cover up of a possible crime." This doesn't sound like a "potentially devastating accusation of political corruption," much less an "impeachable offense," no matter what nonsense Michael Steele or Sean Hannity are peddling. Republicans may be calling for a special prosecutor, and even Democratic Senator Dick Durbin wants to know what happened. But it's called politics, and it's not uncommon. News flash: Sometimes the politics of political appointments and political races can get political.

So according to Michael Grunwald STFU it's just politics.

I Bring this up because I see this crop up every now and then and am surprised by the fact that people don't understand this. I am really surprised that a site comprised of lawyers doesn't understand it.

Folks if you allow your dog to run lose and your dog causes and accident or damage; you are financially responsible.

There was a fellow I used to work with who lived on a major highway. He had a large German Sheppard he allowed to roam at will. One day that dog was hit by a Corvette in the highway destroying the front end of the Corvette.

He got to buy a front end clip for a Corvette. He was lucky no one but the dog was injured.

37 More from Grunwald's brilliant piece

No, what's disturbing about the Sestak job offer is that it sounds like uncharacteristically stupid politics. If the White House did try to clear the primary for Specter, it's incredibly lucky it failed. It's hard to see why President Obama's political operatives would have wanted Sestak out of the race, unless there's something we don't know.

Hmmmm....you think?

So color me perplexed. White House chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel isn't known for dumb politics. And the Administration is being so cagey that it's hard not to wonder if there's more to the story.

So it's best not to investigate it.

Or maybe someone just misjudged the situation. It's certainly possible. In any case, it doesn't mean that someone needs to get frog-marched out of the White House. If political misjudgment were a crime, the entire Beltway would get indicted.

If stupidity were a crime most "journalists" would get the death sentence

Muslim countries are well known for enforcing strict segregation laws that discriminate against women.

Well, an Egyptian scholar has found a loophole that the ladies will be sure to rally around and in no way at all suggests a sexual fetish by the esteemed Dr. Atiya:

In his fatwa, Dr Atiya, the head of al-Azhar's Department of Hadith, said such teachings could equally apply to adults.

He said that if a woman fed a male colleague "directly from her breast" at least five times they would establish a family bond and thus be allowed to be alone together at work.

"Breast feeding an adult puts an end to the problem of the private meeting, and does not ban marriage," he ruled.

"A woman at work can take off the veil or reveal her hair in front of someone whom she breastfed."

I don't think Haley would have said unequivically that there was no affair if a)there was in fact an affair or b) she thought he had any evidence of an affair. They would have left wiggle room if she thought he might have something.

76 #1 I'm trying to read the column by Pegs. But I have this nagging question after 2 sentences...if B to the O can't survive after this series of "unforced errors", how can she expect to keep her job?

78 I'm curious to see the exact wording of the W.H. statement. I'm actually hoping to see tons of Clintonian weasel words, because that means they are guilty as sin. Might never prove it, and it might not be the most awful offense ever committed, but we've seen enough examples, from Clinton to Spitzer to Edwards, to know bullshit CYA language from the truth.

80 Beck is saying that in harvard law you don't have to take constitutional law...you sort of take global law.  Wasn't paying close attention but I think I got the gist.

81 Oil company guy on phone with Beck saying that Beck was wrong, they didn't order just exploratory drilling rigs, they ordered all rigs and the caller is saying so now we are in talks about how to reduce staff>

82 #85  OMG, had no idea.

The more you know, curious...

We all start life as females.  It takes a hormone surge at the correct stage of development to make a developing baby develop male genitalia.  There have been a few cases where that child didn't get the hormone surge and while their genotype was XY, they looked like a girl.

Look, you wingers, I explained everything this morning on Morning Joe. Obama's problem is he doesn't worry about the optics of the situation, he only worries about the merits of the plan. He is sooo much smarter than you, me and everyone else. That is why you wingers just don't get it. He worries about getting things right, he is above the petty partisan squabbles of Washington.

Also, please tune in for Chrissy Matthews in-depth look at the Hard Right in this Country. It will be a fair and balanced piece about why all of you are racist, sexist, mouth breathing haters who have the IQ of melting ice and just don't like the fact that a black man is President.

Oh, and the White House soup of the day is split pea.

86 Mr. Slithers offered Sestak a job?

pfffffft

How do you get from, "the White House offered the job" to "Mr. Slithers offered the job" ???

87 Go to the tape of Sestac. He said 'someone in the administration offered me a job.'  Clintern is not in the administration. So if he goes along with the lie, Toomey can paint him as a big liar. And the longer he avoids answering, the more people will wonder who he is covering up for, and damage his chances too.  Someone needs to put him under oath now or charge him with obstruction of justice.

89 Clinton did not have the power to make good on the offer to Sestak.  Only one man did.  Unless Sestak changes his story, Barry = Nixon.  The only question now is, will Sestak take the bullet for the administration ?
