The comments, however, are where the real pudding is.  Most of the respondents put Jeff some fng knowledge.  Definitely worth reading.

Naw. After all, it ain't like the Dems are being hypocritical. Not after whining about any reference to 9/11, unless they made it. Or to race baiting, unless they did it. Or about using terminology similar to markmanship, when they used honest to goodness targets over 20 years ago. Or Katrina.

And what a way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.  From JWF -

Mexican soldiers have seized an arsenal of gold-plated and diamond-encrusted weapons believed to belong to the Valencia gang, allies of the powerful Sinaloa drug cartel and, it seems, fans of hip-hip excess. Showing just how flamboyant gang members spend much of their ill-gotten wealth, pictures show how most of the 31 'pimped' pistols found in a raid on a home in western Mexico had gold or silver-plated grips or were glittered with diamonds.

A big problem in Greece and much of the rest of the Eurozone is their version of socialism and its insidious bleeding of the productive elements of their economies.  Hairdressers in Greece can retire at age 50 on a government pension for crying out loud.

Once the well of free money is opened up, the unproductive (and I'm not talking about hairdressers) will continuously try to figure out ways to keep coming back to dip into it.  There is never enough money to satisfy those who become addicted to other people's.  And when the people who want ever more of other people's money don't get it, you get Greece.

That's what's in store for this country.

I believe Teddy K's 1965 Immigration Act limits the number of Europeans who are allowed to immigrate legally.  But they'll be able to come in through the Visa Waiver Program, tell INS they're on vacation, then just not leave.

On the bright side, they can read English.

guy looking to go camping or fishing outside of Philly:

A few hours outside of Philly would take you to the Poconos, anywhere in Lancaster or Berks county, Valley Forge is about 45 mins. from center city,  you can't camp there but you can see where George Washington camped.

A visit to PA's state park tourism website could help you out. There's a state park in Chester County that's really popular with rock climbers, about an hour or so outside the city.

49 - I'min total shock about Creepy Crist (tm) seemingly resurrected from the dead, too. WTF is up with that?

In a word, Florida Democrats.  Note that their own candidate, Meeks, is flying in with a swinging 15% of the vote.  Apparently Democratic Voters feel they made their racial reparations vote in 2008 with Obama, and feel no obligation to support Meeks, a Black man.  The remainder of Crist's support seems to come from left-leaning Independents (same dynamic as democrats) plus a handful of retired Establishment Republicans.

Please note also that this is no resurrection.  These poll numbers are actually lower than the pro-Crist numbers being cited when he went Independent (42%-43%).  Be of good cheer -- any advance on Meek's part will come out of Crist's hide -- not Rubio's.

Not going to link, but you can find the story: three people have died in the Greek protests against the austerity measures that the IMF and ECB have demanded in return for a bailout. There was never any real hope that the Greeks would accept such austerity measures, but this just underscores it: Greece is a wastrel nation that has been living large off the toil of their northern neighbors.

Traders are going to be using Greek bonds as asswipe, because no one is going to want them from now on. The Germans in particular are going to be watching this mess and wondering why they're bailing these spendthrift shit-birds out.

This matters because I forsee exactly the same scenario playing out in California this year or next.

Tommy Friedman jumped on that very same bandwagon today. It's amazing to me how lefties completely forget we already have a mechanism to introduce new technology to the market. So I got a headline you probably won't see anywhere else:

"Chevrolet Parts on National Back-Order!  If you need Top Heater Hoses, you are screwed."

So glad the government is overseeing auto manufacturers and making them more efficient!  Do you hear me Obama?  You and your car companies suck.  I am so glad that the union engineers over-engineered something as basic as a coolant hose so as to be something that becomes a critical element to the engine and cannot be fabricated elsewhere.  And now they've run out of inventory and they're on six-fucking-month backorder.

Although I was told that if I put my name on a list, they will very efficiently see to it that I get my stupid fucking part just after the person before me put their name on the list.  And they probably have a dozen people keeping track of this list, but no one making the stupid fucking part in the first place.  Oh, and apparently there's not even a part number, they're just "heater hoses."  Serious incompetence at work here....

But there is just NO WAY that this would become the norm when the government manages our healthcare system, right?  Of course not.  I probably just don't get the nuances.  No wait, I'm racist.  Go Los Suns!!!

So if anyone out there has an extra set of Top Heater Hoses for a 98 Chevy Camaro, I really really freakin' need 'em!

181 Burgess Meredith's disembodied chain-laden ghost

Q: What do Burgess Meredith, Lee Majors, and Chris Makepeace have in common?

A: They were in the 1981 movie "The Last Chase" which was on ooold MST3K. The not-very-good (but still very watchable) movie is oddly relevant, as it reveals a future which the gaia worshipers lust for.

The Greek protests confound me. Do they not get that they're out of money? This isn't even basic economics.

It's the inevitable end-state of socialist welfare societies. Greece (and Portugal, and Spain to a lesser extent) do not actually produce anything. Not much for internal use, and nothing at all for export. It costs more to ship a bag of potatoes from Athens to another Greek city than it does to ship the potatoes from Athens to New York. One-third of the adult population is employed in the public-sector, and much of the private sector is unionized and terribly uncompetitive. In short: apart from tourism and vacation homes, Greece has nothing that anyone wants at a price that anyone is willing to pay.

There is no money. Period. Protest and riot all you want; the money is gone. (It actually was never there to begin with.) All you're doing right now is pissing off the very people you depend upon for your salvation: foreign investors. These rioters are essentially demanding that foreigners continue to coddle them (sound familiar?) and pay their bills. They can scare their own politicians, but foreign investors are more hard-nosed. Greece is doomed. I expect a de facto default any time now (though the ECB will probably cast it as a "restructuring" rather than an outright default). Portugal and Spain are going to be badly hurt too. I suspect that the EU is going to have to eject Greece from the Euro before it infects everyone else, but it may be too late for that to do any good now.

188 Watched Fox and Friends this morning, and they had Joan Rivers on to talk about her "Rich People" show (ugh, can't stand her usually, but this am was ok.)

The show has Joan going to where wealthy folks hang out and interviewing them about what they did to get wealthy.  She interviewed the man who first imported fake crab meat into the US, the guy who invented "The Clapper", and others.

Joan said that the one thing they all had in common was that, in order to obtain their wealth, they worked like dogs.

‘Ties cannot be normalized under current Israeli gov’t’

As long as the current Israeli government stays in power, it seems very unlikely that relations between Turkey and Israel can normalize, said a government source speaking to TodayÂ’s Zaman. The Turkish government has been trying to put relations back on track, the same source claimed, stating, however, that the Israeli government has not made any such effort to this end.Turkish-Israeli relations have further soured due to a recent vote by the Knesset giving the first go-ahead for a discussion on Armenian genocide claims. Turkey, which denies that the killings of Armenians in 1915 under the Ottoman Turks did not constitute genocide, warned Israel about the probable negative consequences if the issue proceeds any further.

The Turks have been playing both sides ever since at least 2003, when they didn't allow US forces to enter Iraq from the north.  Ever since the AKP party has been in power, Turkey has been slowly but surely moving it's way back into the Islamic axis (with Iran and Syria).  Doesn't bode well for future events.

WASHINGTON – The Washington Post Co. says it is putting Newsweek up for sale, another stunning moment for a struggling magazine industry.

The company says it has retained the investment bank Allen & Co. to help find a buyer for the money-losing weekly.

With advertising revenue falling across the industry, Newsweek has been piling up losses since 2007. In a statement Wednesday, Post Co. Chairman Donald E. Graham said he expects those losses to continue this year.

He said, "Newsweek is a lively, important magazine and website, and in the current climate, it might be a better fit elsewhere."

#89  I'm looking for a place to go camping and fishing somewhere a few hours outside of philly, any suggestions?

I suggest the Barryville, NY - Shohola PA area along the Delaware river. About 2 1/2 hours from Philly.  Go to discoverpikepa.com for info and links to businesses, camp grounds etc.

The river is really nice there,  not "developed" at all.. Plenty of camping spots along the road, many offering raft rentals.    Wildlife abounds: deer, wild turkey, black bear, beaver, and lots more.

The Delaware's great for fishing, especially as you drift five miles down the river on a raft well-stocked with cold beer.

There's a fishing shop (Hagerman')s in Shohola where you can get advice on "good spots" and what's biting, as well as a license.   Sholhola also has a civil-war era saloon  (Romer's)  that's not to be missed.

Oh and did I mention you might see a bald eagle swoop down and grab a fish in its talons?   Way cool.

230 The French occupying forces placed Emperor Maximilian I on the throne of Mexico in 1864. The French, under pressure from the United States, eventually withdrew in 1866-1867.

In 1865, after four years of unprecedented violence that killed three percent of the population during the War Between the States, the United States turned its attention to reintegrating the South, strengthening the federal government and enacting laws that, however imperfectly, abolished slavery and paved the way for civil rights.

In time to dissuade France from holding on to Mexico, reasserting the Monroe Doctrine.

Monroe Doctrine (December 2, 1823), cornerstone of U.S foreign policy enunciated by President James Monroe in his annual message to Congress. Declaring that the Old World and New World had different systems and must remain distinct spheres, Monroe made four basic points: (1) The United States would not interfere in the internal affairs of or the wars between European powers; (2) the United States recognized and would not interfere with existing colonies and dependencies in the Western Hemisphere; (3) the Western Hemisphere was closed to future colonization; and (4) any attempt by a European power to oppress or control any nation in the Western Hemisphere would be viewed as a hostile act against the United States. Polk affirms Monroe Doctrine December 2, 1845.

What a shame that the only Monroe Doctrine "relevant" to our history ignores points one through three, focused entirely on the fourth alone.

US citizens, strongly in favor of the first point to abstain from European internal wars,  were bamboozled into voting for potus candidates promising to keep us out of the 20th century world wars while plotting our entrances into those wars. It was time to polish off the Monroe Doctrine and stay isolationist during WWI, the Great War to End All Wars that slaughtered an entire generation and ruined entire nations for nothing but misery. The damned internationalist socialist Wilson just had to ruin it all in order to take more for the elitists and prepare the way for WWII and the Marxist global governance we're up against today.

The sob story is beginning for the poor misunderstand Time Square bomber

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Not long ago, Faisal Shahzad had a pretty enviable life: He became an American citizen after emigrating from Pakistan, where he came from a wealthy family. He earned an MBA. He had a well-educated wife and two kids and owned a house in a middle-class Connecticut suburb.

In the past couple of years, though, his life seemed to unravel: He left a job at a global marketing firm he'd held for three years, lost his home to foreclosure and moved into an apartment in an impoverished neighborhood in Bridgeport. And last weekend, authorities say, he drove an SUV loaded with explosives into Times Square intent on blowing it up.

Shahzad's behavior sometimes seemed odd to his neighbors, and he surprised a real estate broker he hardly knew with his outspokenness about President George W. Bush and the Iraq war.

"He mentioned that he didn't like Bush policies in Iraq," said Igor Djuric, who represented Shahzad in 2004 when he was buying a home.

Djuric said he couldn't remember the exact words Shahzad used about Bush but "something to the effect of he doesn't know what he's doing and it's the wrong thing that he's doing."

"I don't know if he mentioned 9/11," Djuric said, "but something like that, Iraq has nothing to do with anything."

It sounds like this POS is nothing more than a mainstream Democrat. Hell with his views he could have gotten a job in Barry's administration. And still might

They want to run the system until actual failure.  In doing so, they want to start burning the wealth of the wealthy to keep going.  After that, they will all be in hell, together, and the unions don't care because they think they will weild the only powers left in such a society - political, and man, power.  Socialists can never be satisfied, so long as anyone has any money.  They are real bloodsuckers of society.  The Greek unions will probably demand raises.

It's like the collapse of the staticist star: they normally burn income to fight the rational collapse of their ideas, but when they run out of income fuel, they start burning wealth.  When the wealth is all gone, their irrational idiocy can no longer be supported, and the star implodes.  If it's a big enough society, the result is a black hole.

270 Haven't seen a thread yet about Faber's projection that China's speculation real-estate bubble economy will likely fold within the year.

There's PR precedence for when China's economy collapses, should they threaten military intervention in order to collect on our debts.

The CALVO DOCTRINE from Argentina, aka revised Drago Doctrine, was adopted as relevant by the US during T.Rooselvelt's administration, reserving the right for the US to intervene in Western Hemisphere if needed, but not with the military over a financial debt. Look carefully at the rights of sovereign governments with regards to aliens and resident aliens to seek redress within the country's judicial court system rather than diplomacy, and to accept the laws of the land wherein one resides.

Regardless of China, it would seem that "indemnity" would protect a sovereign nation's rights to assert law enforcement against aliens, particularly illegal aliens, most particularly drug running kidnapping murdering illegal criminal aliens. The US tax payers want security against damage, loss, or injury, particularly compensation for damage, loss, or injury suffered by the expense and illegal burden that the nation of Mexico in particular has committed by passive aggressively waging economic warfare on the US. Illegal alien Mexicans have no "right" to their consulate to intervene against US law enforcement, and neither does the Mexican government have the "right" to dump their population across the border onto the US tax payers.

The Calvo Drago Monroe Doctrines with the 1904 Roosevelt Corollary, with a Hague Peace Conference tossed in for good measure deserve note these days.

Calvo Doctrine, a body of international rules regulating the jurisdiction of governments over aliens and the scope of their protection by their home states, as well as the use of force in collecting indemnities. The doctrine was advanced by the Argentine diplomat and legal scholar Carlos Calvo, in his International Law of Europe and America in Theory and Practice (186 . It affirmed that rules governing the jurisdiction of a country over aliens and the collection of indemnities should apply equally to all nations, regardless of size. It further stated that foreigners who held property in Latin American states and who had claims against the governments of such states should apply to the courts within such nations for redress instead of seeking diplomatic intervention. Moreover, according to the doctrine, nations were not entitled to use armed force to collect debts owed them by other nations. A Calvo clause in a contract between the government of a Latin American state and an alien stipulates that the latter agrees unconditionally to the adjudication within the state concerned of any dispute between the contracting parties. The Calvo Doctrine was essentially restated by the Drago Doctrine, articulated by the Argentine foreign minister Luis María Drago in 1902. Venezuela then was indebted to Great Britain, Germany, and Italy, which threatened armed intervention to collect. Drago advised the United States government that “The public debt cannot occasion armed intervention nor even the actual occupation of the territory of American nations.” This statement against European intervention in the Americas squared with U.S. policy, as set forth in the Monroe Doctrine (1823) and the Roosevelt Corollary (1904); the U.S. government assented to the modified Drago version at the second Hague Peace Conference (1907) in the form adopted as the Porter Convention on the Limitation of the Employment of Force for the Recovery of Contract Debts.

287 The Greek protests confound me. Do they not get that they're out of money? This isn't even basic economics

Let me add to Monty's reply above -
The Greek economy is in a latter stage of the death spiral that afflicts all socialist economies. As they pay more and more to the dependent class (public sector, unionized, protected, on the dole, retired, etc.) the private sector workers have two choices, either stop working or become tax cheats.

The dependent class grows and the private sector shrinks
This only increases the power of this dependent class and makes the taxes higher on those that do work (fishers, tradesmen, shopkeepers, farmers,...) The spiral continues. The more power the dependent class gets, the more they demand (strikes, riots, marches,...) and the smaller the private sector gets the higher they are taxed.

The first industries to suffer are manufacturing since they need stability and it is hard for them to hide their profits. The last to go are the tradesmen, fishermen, and such that can under report.

I hear reports that Greece has about a 30% tax underreporting rate, and the expression is that Greece is a poor country full of rich people. Look on Google and you will see all these villas and mansions so it is not like Turkey or China full of peasants, it is full of tax cheats.

Now the dependent class is doing the only thing they know how --- Demanding more money.

History Repeats Itself in the Economic Dark Ages/Global Warming period....

When the economy tanks and global warming is the rule of the day, different people will adapt in different ways.
Dark skinned people will be more adaptive to the sun's blistering rays. They will follow their ancestral DNA lessons by building mud and adobe huts to remain as cool as possible in the noonday sun. At night they will play tribal drums by which they'll do a primitive form of break dancing.

Lighter skinned people will likewise follow their European DNA ancestral lessons by inventing solar powered air conditioning and stereo.

Some gems from Michael Walsh at Big Journalism:

You have to admit that, even against stiff competition, Contessa Brewer is the ideal public face of the asylum known as MSNBC.  With her earnest, slightly confused demeanor, her overweening sense of moral self-righteousness, her imperviousness to logic, facts and history, and her utter inability to take any kind of answer for an answer if itÂ’s not the answer she wants, sheÂ’s at once ludicrously predictable, always entertaining and much prettier than either Chris Matthews or Keith Olbermann.

The pride of Syracuse University is, in fact, the perfect avatar of her generation, her head so stuffed full of political correctness that she literally cannot think any other way

Yes, I know: the girl canÂ’t help it. SheÂ’s been raised in the religion of Bogus Bigotry and she sings lustily from the hymnal. But this is where the news mediaÂ’s relentless search for “diversity” ultimately leads: to a glorious mosaic of male and female, white and black, straight and gay,all of whom think exactly alike.  They have the same templates, the same frames of reference, the same knee-jerk reactions to a given set of stimuli. It used to be that reporters asked skeptical questions, kept an open mind, tried to fit the facts into a historical context and then did their best to present the information in an intelligible, even-handed way. That was called “reporting.”

It was an open lie.  Everyone knew it.  It wasn't unlike what the EU did to Turkey.  In order to even be considered for EU membership, the EU forced Turkey to amend their Constitution and remove the secular military as the supreme power - as the military had the power, and the responsibility, to remove governments when they got too islamic - even though everyone knows that the EU never intended to let Turkey in (and for good reason).  But, now Turkey drifts back, once again, to islamic rule and the military has been neutered, legally.  Happy days!

The EU and Greece deserve each other.

310 Faisal Shahzad was an almost invisible presence at the American university where he earned two degrees. "Earned" two degrees or was gifted those degrees much like Obama's educational résumé? Since when does a graduate in computer science and engineering unsuccessfully build the most rudimentary car-bomb?

Professors there said they had been discussing Mr. Shahzad for much of Tuesday morning, trying to recall what he was like, yet few were able to remember. Prof. Robert Todd said his records showed that Mr. Shahzad was in at least one of his classes, but "I don't remember the kid."

After the beans spill about whom they graduated from their institution, of course everyone is saying that they don't recall Shahzad who attended the school twice as long as usual, the son of retired Pakistani Air Vice Marshall Baharul Haq, a former top air force officer and deputy director general of the civil aviation authority, according to Kifyat Ali, a cousin of Mr. Shahzad's father.  Give me a break, the friggin son of a Pakistani Air Force Vice Marshall big shot attends school twice as long as usual and no one ever really saw him.

Shahzad was awarded US citizenship, but if you asked the FBI last month, they'd have told you what a great naturalized citizen he made. And since Obama's Katrina sized failure to respond to the oil rig explosion appropriately, his need for diversion applies to the "amateurish" engineer master degree Shahzad car-bomb test under the nose of the FBI/DHS/CIA that were observing Shahzad. This reeks of DHS foolhardy policy from the inside out.

unk.jane - snappy's only a few days old, so really there are only a few gnaw marks on 'er.  The squeaky-toy part still works.

From Malkin, a snarkily good mash-up of the GM ad.

Consider it truth in advertising:

322 Real paradigm of intelligent rhetoric and logic isn't it?

My bubble is crushed, just crushed...how will I make it through the day now?

316 Is this snapdragon a new troll or an old one with a "new and improved name"?  The bullshit sounds strangely familiar.  I had to work last night in beautiful, downtown sanctuary city, Texas (aka Houston)and get to see first hand your red-diapered hero's BS.  Between him and his fellow travellers, Houston is becoming a supperating boil on Texas' backside.  Come Novemeber 2010 and 2012, we'll get to excise the entire mass.  People here aren't happy campers.  Your boy and his comrades are toxic.

Whoa, that snapped me out of my boredom. Which one is more delusional; the lame dufus who fancies itself to be a ferocious troll killer, or the troll who inventively writes revisionist history of revisionist history of revisionist history?

(Both of whom just said, Duh!!!)

America's GDP is growing?  At a nice steady pace?  Compared to what parameters you freaking boob? (oops, sorry -- you educated and nuanced sophisticate)

Yeah, I suppose compared to mounting constriction, even a .5% growth rate could be foisted off as a "steady improvement", but it still would hardly constitute a sunshine and roses outcome.  Just because we're still circling the rim doesn't make things good; we're still headed down the shit tube eventually at this rate.

But let me guess -- the GDP growth rate and "right wing bubbles"!  is its meme...that's going to be brought up in every. frakking. post.

Well, how very original and creative!  Sooo, snappy....how are you with Capt. America paradigms and comic book super hero motifs in general?

320 A rising GDP like we have now cures most economic ills, warthog.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
