Boaters: keep an eye out for periscopes:

Talk about the big one that got away.

Ryan Danoff was fishing with two friends about four miles off Hollywood beach Sunday when he spied what appeared to be a mast on the horizon.

Funny thing: There was no boat underneath it.

Danoff, a Fort Lauderdale fish farmer who's on the water at least three days a week, aimed his 31-foot center console Fishy Business at the mysterious upright and found himself eye to eye with a periscope.

"It was crazy," he said. "If it was just myself out there I wouldn't believe what I saw."

Danoff moved closer. "It took off," he said. Very fast, about 20 knots. The periscope sank beneath the waves, and whatever was below the surface blew its ballast, sending aloft a mighty hiccup of bubbles. After five minutes the sea lay once again undisturbed.

Yeah, I have little 5 foot friend.  A guy was bothering her in a club.  When she went to leave he followed her out.  She was alone cause she was just going to jump in a cab and go home.   so she turned to him and said "i hope you are not following me as that would be a huge mistake on your part".  He was not drunk and kinds responded that " no one shuts him down like that in front of his friends"  so he made the mistake of grabbing her arm and she olitely asked him to cease and desist and he said "what are you a cop" and she said "no I'm not a cop but take your hand off of me, please".  suffice it to say before others outside the club could come to hear aid she gave a lovely martial arts demonstration and the police said they were impressed.  She's won a lot of competitive trophies but this is the first time her opponent wasn't there for sport.

79 There are subs all over the place at Cape Cod, too. I remember at least one story in which the sub was Soviet and caused a bit of a stir, but 99% of the time there'll be a mention that it was a training run from some U.S. base or another. And of course, for every real sighting there are a zillion repeating the story as if they saw it. Anyway, I remembered how we were trained to identify Soviet-style tanks and planes in a blink of an eye back in my Army days, so I went to see if there are similar ID'ing tricks for subs. I guess the periscope isn't all that valuable for Id'ing because the assumption seems to be that the sub will be spotted from far, far away. There are probably experts who could look at a periscope and peg it just by the shape of a screwhead, but that doesn't seem to be the norm. Sub ID guide: http://tiny.cc/bbhwa

80 I am thinking Ed Morrissey at HotAir is a bit too credulous for his own good sometimes.  He leads a post on Nikki Haley with this tired old canard:

South Carolina has developed a bad reputation in politics.  In 2000, Republican operatives tried smearing John McCain in the presidential primary with rumors about his daughter, which some of his supporters still blame for his loss and the end of his first bid for the White House.

Right.  Did ever see any evidence.  Did anyone willing to identify themselves even say they heard this?  The way this was originally reported was that it was a robo-call.  Now its whispering.  Bullshit, Ed.  Stop wearing a dress.

The first deepwater rescue was done there as well, when the USS Squalus sank in 250 feet of water in 1939.

Sailboat racing is no big deal in England....and this little race around the Isle of Wight has been going on since 1936 or so....I guess England is a bit closer to its maritime heritage than the US...

As for the media's portrayal of this whole event as some kind of upper crust event...

88 From yesterday but still astonishing:   AP article on Yahoo News
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/
   20100619/ap_on_bi_ge/us_obama

President Obama accused Republicans of blocking legislation that would boost the nation's economic recovery and lift a $75 million cap on what oil companies must pay [after an oil spill].

Obama said the stalled Senate bill would extend unemployment benefits to workers without jobs and a tax credit for first-time homebuyers. He also said the legislation would save thousands of jobs across the country.

"Unfortunately, the Republican leadership in the Senate won't even allow this legislation to come up for a vote," the president said. "And if this obstruction continues, unemployed Americans will see their benefits stop. Teachers and firefighters will lose their jobs.  Families will pay more for their first home."

Republicans, Obama said, are hurting the country and the economy by refusing to let the legislation move forward."

Wow, it's The Big Lie!  Liberals/MFM imply that Republican leaders in the Senate have some magic, secret power that they can *prevent* this legislation from even coming up for a vote?!  Who knew??

89 "The first deepwater rescue was done there as well, when the USS Squalus sank in 250 feet of water in 1939." Hmmmm... I'm 99% sure that I own a book (sitting in a Cape cottage about a thousand miles away from where I am right now) that tells the story of The Squalus. Might've been locally published, I'll take a look for it in a few weeks when I'm up there.

As for diet, here's a clue:  Eat what you want in moderation and exercise more.  Real f***ing simple.

Yeah, I'm in a mood.  All I need is for Kemp to show up so he can insult all Jewish women.

My take is simple: Unless there's alcohol involved, I prefer to eat calories, not drink them.

Yahoo sucks.  Yahoo!Answers sucks even worse.  I was on there for a while a few years ago...the "Politics" section is just an excuse for libtards to post ridiculous leading questions, and God forbid if you are a conservative and answer like one.  I am still getting "Violations of site policy" notices in my inbox, and the last time I even bothered to post there was three freaking years ago.

No, it's not just possible.  She was doing post-yard trials up there.

105 You can peg the periscope/mast/snorkel to a point of manufacture or class. I believe there are fewer periscope makers then sub builders - so id'ing it may not necessarily the boat. I would have called it in to the coasties, just on principle.

107 You know what would be more effective than that condom?  License to carry and appropriate training.  If the rapists in Malmöstan started getting plugged, the rest of them might think twice.

Certainly your idea is the best, for us in the US.  Though I would go one further and say that our need to go around armed all the time is proof that we have already done something terribly wrong.  Our collective refusal to kill off the scum who are the root of this problem is our real failure.  The molesters, gang bangers and the islamists need to be rounded up and their dead bodies dumped in a huge hole somewhere in the desert.  Hopefully when we hit the reset button we'll have a few months where Vigilance Committees will be in charge of the local administration of justice.

In any case, the poor Euros are disarmed, and their governments care not at all about how many women are raped.  Indeed, a woman carrying a weapon for self defense would be sure of arrest and receive a longer prison term than a rapist would get.  But if word got around that diddling an infidel woman would get your thingy caught in a nasty trap it might at least discourage the attackers a bit.

A bit intense but I bet someone would be crazy enough to buy it. All the old designs at their Facebook, if you are interested. I totes bought the unicorn one because, hello.

117 O/T:  Apparently huffpoopoo had a piece on the wedding recently and people are beginning to speculate but there is really no information out there:  "Chelsea has been dating with Marc since 2005. Finally she got engaged to her long time boyfriend. People Magazine came up with this news as they got a hold on the email which was sent to the family and friends from the couple for sharing their engagement.

MezvinskyÂ’s parents are both former members of congress and he works at Goldman Sachs. Edward Mezvinsky pleaded guilty in 2002 after getting caught up in a Nigerian scam for swindling dozens of investors out of $10 million. Marc and Chelsea are friends and both attended the same university and now they are in New York."

They are wondering if, like Ivanka Trump, Chelsea may convert to judaism.  they are speculating that she is looking for a jewish caterer and a rabbi to officiate at the ceremoney which is super sekret.
