5 If McChrystal resigns, maybe we can dispense with this stupid timetable and let our soldiers actually fight to win. I hope a bunch of stupid policies go out with him (though I don't blame him entirely, but the idiot voted for Obama.) Maybe he'll dish more to the media about the Obama administration, where a lot more people need firing. But WTF are we paying the Taliban for?!! That is the craziest thing I've ever heard. Medals for restraint. Money to our enemies. As Dennis Miller put it, "Thinking twice when half a second gets you dusted."

Agreed.  Based on other recent events, Barry is going to be awhile living down the "clown" comments.

They don't seem to be building a lot of confidence throughout corps, especially when coupled with Gates piss poor performance last Sunday.

All of this wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that it is American soldiers who pay the highest price for their ineptitude.

Germany Rejects Obama's Call on Growth, Stoking G-20 Conflict

Chancellor Angela Merkel's government rebuffed U.S. calls to focus on bolstering growth over debt reduction, setting a course for conflict at the Group of 20 summit in Canada this week.

“Nobody can seriously dispute that excessive public debts, not only in Europe, are one of the main causes of this crisis,” Finance Minister Wolfgana Schaeuble told reporters in Berlin today alongside Merkel. “That’s why they have to be reduced.”

25 I get sick to my stomach when I think of all our troops getting killed.  Our town just buried a 22 year old medic last week.

Our kid is preparing to deploy first of the year, and now he says it may be sooner.
My thoughts about Afghanistan are all over the place.  On the one hand, let the military do what it does best, and leave them alone to win the damned thing.  On the other hand, if we're going to be so PC that the ROE put our troops very lives in danger, then get the hell out.

Blue on blue action at Democratic Underground:

The leftwing blogosphere has a big problem: dissent. Last week we saw Keith Olbermann leaving the Daily Kos because he was attacked there for mildly criticizing Barack Obama. And this week, the administrator of the Democratic Underground, David Allen aka Skinner,  was forced to deal with a recent wave of purges (tombstoning). One reason  was due to simple liberal crackup temper tantrums among the DUers as happened when their most prominent member, William Rivers Pitt of Karl Rove indictment hoax fame, was tombstoned last month for threatening physical violence upon a fellow DUer who turned out to be a homeless woman.

DU is getting as bad as Chuckle's house.

39 32 "BP Chief Tony Hayward cashed in about a third of his holding in the company one month before the Deepwater Horizon rig burst, causing an environmental disaster.

Mr Hayward, whose pay package is £4 million a year, then paid off the mortgage on his familyÂ’s mansion in Kent, which is estimated to be valued at more than £1.2 million."

That is suspicious. Not saying the government had anything to do with it, but it seems Hayward and Goldman Sachs knew something was up. Otherwise, it is just a very happy coincidence.

40 On the other hand, if we're going to be so PC that the ROE put our troops very lives in danger, then get the hell out.

As soon as the Commies got in total power in 2008 I said then it was time to bring them home. When they requested between 40K and 80K troops for the surge and Jug-ears delayed and said we would send 30K I knew it was all over.  We still haven't sent the 30K and he is talking about the timetable for withdrawal.

I knew that the asshole would cut and run and first opportunity then. Anyone killed between then and the actual withdrawal is only being killed to support his political ambitions.

I went through all that horseshit in Vietnam and I swore I wold never put up with that crap again. Well here we are, another war another Democrat who believes in sacrificing American soldiers for political expediency.

God I hate this SOB. It would be nice if we could take enough congress to impeach him for treason.

George Marshall, in a memoir of his service in WW I--apparently not intended for publication--provided advice for officers.

You should always support your superior's programs enthusiastically, the more energetically as you think them ill-advised.

I believe the latter is a matter of the reasonable presumption that it would be natural to slack off on a program or plan with which you disagreed and the self-advice to be more energetic would be useful.

It is, after all, the commander's platoon, or battalion, or army.  It's his privilege and responsibility to do the best he can and slacking on the part of the staff and subordinate commanders is, at best, treachery.

If you can't do that, resign.  But don't hang around and bad-mouth, sabotage, or fail to support your commander.

Having said that, Obama couldn't lead a scout patrol to a Dairy Queen.

43 That is suspicious. Not saying the government had anything to do with it, but it seems Hayward and Goldman Sachs knew something was up. Otherwise, it is just a very happy coincidence.

That's when Obama announced the lifting of the offshore drilling ban. Freeing up drilling is very bad for BP. They're heavily invested on the other side, in cap and trade, government-enforced "green" shit, etc. So it was a bear-looking moment for insiders who know what BP's real business is.

The spill will save them. Buy low.

44 Back in the conspiracy thread I posted some screwy rumors going around about the oil spill. One of them was BP CEO sold off a lot of stock before the spill started.  Maybe it wasn't so screwy after all.

June 22 (Bloomberg) -- Sales of U.S. previously owned homes unexpectedly fell in May, a sign demand was probably pulled into prior months before a June tax-credit deadline.

The decline raises the risk the retrenchment following the expiration of the tax credit will be deeper than anticipated. A slump in builder shares since late April has exceeded the retreat in the broader market on concern the damage from the end of government stimulus, mounting foreclosures and unemployment may cause renewed weakness.

52 My local paper just ran a headline for an AP wire-service story, warning readers that Al Qaeda was planning more attacks on the U.S.

After a couple of 'grafs come the details:  The "warning" is a video by American-born taliban convert Adam Gadahn.

One tiny problem for AP:  As reported on numerous blogs, that video is about 4 months old, as evidenced by what Adam Shithead references and what he avoids mentioning (because it hadn't happened back then, obviously).
