She better be fired. I still can't believe this isn't on the news. This woman is a vile person. How something like this is overlooked is beyond me.

Yes, Helen.
Uh - Helen Thomas never said the words "I apologize".

I don't really care, as I don't pay attention to the old crone anyway. But someone needs to take notice of this, and force feed the lemmings as to what is being said by leaders of the press. Time for the double standard to go away. She needs to go, and go right now.
Posted by: Jay in Ames at June 07, 2010 06:17 AM (UEEex)
Right. But let's call bullshit on her apologizing for anything. She regrets that she got in trouble for saying something on the record that she has undoubtedly said millions of times in private over the years. She couldn't even bring herself to say, "I'm sorry," even though she knows exactly what sending Jews who escaped the Holocaust "back to Poland and Germany" means. She will remain part of the White House Press Corpse, too; President Obama knew who she was as well as any of us when he brought the old Nazi whore some cupcakes on her birthday.

Pardon me but who the fuck cares. We all know what Helen Thomas is and what she stands for, and we always have.
i think the point he is making is that an apology is a public statement claiming the previous statement was wrong.
What she said is one of those, "i'm sorry people were offended by what i honestly believe."
She honestly believes what she said, so much so that she isn't even offering an real apology.

This was the seminal moment in eco-idiot history. The Vietnam war was winding down and the communists needed a new movement to occupy thir efforts in destroying the U.S. The eco-green crap was the new Vietnam. Banning DDT has cost millions of lives.

Citizen Kane was loosely based on Hearst. "Rosebud" was his nickname for, um, a certain part of his girlfriend. Hearst tried his best to ruin Welles, but was unsuccessful. Of course Welles was on his own self-destruction, "started at the top and worked my way down."
You have to love how effectively he got under the skin of one of the most powerful men in media.

They have a lovely article on Jim being the MOST corrupt member of congress (which is quite the accomplishment considering Rangle et al).
Jim Moran signed a letter back in January 2010 calling for Israel to lift the blockade of Gaza, even though the Hamas government that rules the Gaza Strip openly and continuously calls for IsraelÂ’s destruction.

That goes for Morons all over in every voting district. Lets try to get some real conservative candidates in the race. Remember that in a primary it is NEVER a question of "the lesser of the evils".
On the same topic I found some interesting info yesterday while checking to insure my poll location was the same for the primaries.
I have been castigating the Republican Party for "open primaries" since the 2008 election. It seems that perhaps they may not be the guilty party on that score.
On the 2010 Republican Primary ballot there will be two questions on that regard for opinions on overturning STATE LAW on primaries.
1. Are you in favor of allowing the Party to call for closed primaries (repeal of State law).
2. Are you in favor of removing the requirement that any Party which nominates its candidate by convention do so with a 75% majority. (this makes it almost impossible to do a convention)

I used to do heavy outdoor labor for years and dreaded those summertime headaches. After I switched from water to gatorade they stopped.
The headaches are caused by loss of electrolytes, particularly potassium. So also up your intake of foods high in potassium -- dried apricots, bananas and potato skins are a few. For me, gatorade works best.

Certainly not any indication of the Sun waking up. Their models are toys, not useful for prediction at all, yet they cling to them rather than tell people they don't really know shit. He does object when courts write gay-marriage laws over the will of the legislature/governor/people (Iowa, I'm looking at you). Since flagrant abuse of state constitutions "benefits gays" that makes objecting to flagrant abuse of state constitutions "anti-gay."

I missed the local rep (Quirmbach, *spit) coming to my house, knocking on the door, and trying to give me his spiel (wife regrets not sending me to the door, then sitting back to enjoy the fireworks). I'm simply not buying. Plenty of talented bean counters exist exist throughout society. Prudent use of money in a low margin business like banking is essential, being able to quickly monetize risk down to a percentage, and ability to offer competitive rates is also important. I would guess it is a cultural upbringing that brings that capable investing sense together with successful and shrewd bartering , prudence, and the ability to see opportunity.

All math that is Algebra and beyond is all conducted in lateral equations. Getting used to viewing mathematical equality in that sense preps them for the basics of Algebra. In a world where a four function calculator costs four bucks and is the size of a key fob, the critical societal skills in math have less to do with the mechanical process of long division and column arithmetic, and more to do with an abstract understanding of equality, a mathematical concept that is represented in lateral equations. My question back is, since all practical mathematics beyond balancing your checkbook is some sort of basic relationship in equality, why not start teaching equality earlier so that there is less transition when students reach pre-algebra?

Exactly. I undersand the algebra thing. But the way some of these schools are approaching basic math, especially multiplication and division, but even addition and subtraction is just whacked. When the kid does it what I guess is now the fucking old fashioned way that I teach him, he gets it right and takes far less time. So he's not dumb. When he does it the teacher's way, he's all over the place.
Confirmed it with the teacher too and reviewing the lessons, workbooks, and worksheets. She confessed that they didn't spend much time on math this year because...wait for it...the standardized tests for Florida this year weren't going to be focusing on math very heavily.

As is so often the case, the "education people" are full of crap. Those are the same folk who told us that "whole language" was better than phonics for teaching a person to read English. Given that English is a phonetic languge, I'm a bit surprised so many people found that easy to swallow.

Saw a comment somewhere that threw cold water on the idea of the lavish wedding after you've been shacked up for a while. Was Rush really shacked up w/ Rogers?
In other news, the most disturbing thing was an excerpt of the new book where Rush told the author that he expects to be stripped of his show and his wealth by leftists. Rush is a defeatist? I've always thought he has anything and everything squirreled away and was looking toward Czechoslovakia for healthcare and broadcasting in absentia (if necessary).

Education people insist that one cannot learn geometry until age 15 or sophomore year in hs. They will even let a freshman (good math student) take algebra II with juniors before they will let them take geometry.
I took Geometry as a Freshman. Algebra 2 as a junior. Took Algebra in the 8th grade. And as far as I know that's still the standard path for students there.
Before that I was never on the "Advanced" math path. But my 7th grade teacher recognized I deserved to be. Probably due to the fact that I was helping explain the shit to some of my other classmates without outright telling them the answer and still having no problems doing my own work.

In case you haven't noticed, anyone that dies at the hands of the Israelis achieves that status. Instead, the Israelis decided to make a show of force. The Israelis appear to have reasoned that backing down would demonstrate weakness and encourage further flotillas to Gaza, unraveling the Israeli position vis-à-vis Hamas. In this thinking, a violent interception was a superior strategy to accommodation regardless of political consequences. Thus, the Israelis accepted the bait and were provoked.
......
The Turkish flotilla aimed to replicate the Exodus story or, more precisely, to define the global image of Israel in the same way the Zionists defined the image that they wanted to project. As with the Zionist portrayal of the situation in 1947, the Gaza situation is far more complicated than as portrayed by the Palestinians. The moral question is also far more ambiguous. But as in 1947, when the Zionist portrayal was not intended to be a scholarly analysis of the situation but a political weapon designed to define perceptions, the Turkish flotilla was not designed to carry out a moral inquest.
Instead, the flotilla was designed to achieve two ends. The first is to divide Israel and Western governments by shifting public opinion against Israel. The second is to create a political crisis inside Israel between those who feel that IsraelÂ’s increasing isolation over the Gaza issue is dangerous versus those who think any weakening of resolve is dangerous.

297 I think it might be a case of "muscle memory and knowing" vs. theoretical analysis. I'm basing this off of my experience with riding horses over jumps, both stadium and cross country -- there are numerous, real time mathematical/geometric calculations going on for the rider and these can change rapidly depending upon the changing conditions. This is especially true when you get into the realm of riding over the really big ones (failure to make and adjust for the proper calculation can land you in a world of hurt...far beyond getting a bad grade, lol!).
The rider could be what other's would consider not the most intellectual or educated, certainly not in math and geometry, perhaps -- yet they are performing very advanced math/geometric calculations, in their head, at a rapid fire pace. How can they do this? Well, while they may not be whizzes at math theory, they have been taught to do those precise things in the process of learning how to ride -- the brain and body learned together to the point that the rider doesn't even think about it anymore (although the beginner most definitely has to learn through the brain at the start).
It would be similar to being a pilot or a yachtsman.
To a certain extent, I can see where this concept would be useful with young children in learning; no horse person bats an eye at a child much younger than 15 learning the spatial, mathematical concepts involved in riding down a line of jumps or going through a combination -- I see no reason why the same wouldn't hold for a child in the classroom.

Might I suggest you do some re-reading of my previous post, only slower this time, then tell me where I stated that "perception does not matter".
I'll wait.
(By the way, don't bother linking Stratfor as I have a subscription. I couldn't resist getting one years ago, what with them bein' pro-fessionals and all fancy stuff.)

You seem to think that these people are scum, got what they deserve, and that the Israelis were righteous, but that the Israelis should place a higher priority on foreign liberal perception than their own security.
Real coherent philosophy. Sounds awfully Obamish.
If that is not dismissing global perception, I have no fucking idea what you are saying. If you think it is only liberal perceptions that are affected by this.. you haven't read the fucking article.. or you have your opinions already formed and are worthless trying to persuade.

Because making the point about security being a higher priority than liberal perception is the same as saying that "perception does not matter".
Would now be a bad time to point out that you were the one who first made mention of liberal perceptions? I mean, I don't wanna get in the way of you completely mis-stating my arguments for me or anything like that.
So you keep beating the shit out of all those strawmen champ. And when you say you're done, shut the fuck up, otherwise, you're not done.
