Jeff Sessions on Kagan: "Filibuster Is Not Off The Table"
Has Human Events forgotten Lindsey Graham has not yet been stripped of his committee assignments and has already said he will vote FOR her? So yes, filibuster IS off the table. (or at least in the committee).

Coming to a South Carolina near you:
Newberry uneasy as Black PanthersÂ’ Saturday rally nears
Group wants slaying of a black man and dragging of corpse classified hate crime. What the assholes in the liberal rag do not say in the article is the two people involved in this crime knew each other and had been long time friends. If I am not mistaken the actual crime was involved around a drug deal gone bad. But yes, a white guy killed a black guy so it MUST be a hate crime. Keep in mind that the AG must find that the original crime must be found to be inadequately prosecuted before they can hold another trial on a hate crime basis. Also in the article:
“Anytime you have people come in from outside with a message of hate, that always causes fear,” said Maj. Todd Johnson of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Department.
State, local and federal law enforcement officials will be in full force, Johnson said. And authorities plan to have Emergency Medical Services on standby because the rally and march are scheduled to last five hours in the blazing heat, he said.
“We’re going to make sure they have a First Amendment right to free speech,” Johnson said. “But we’re also going to make sure their First Amendment right doesn’t infringe on anybody else.”
LOL, they better be out in force or the local rednecks will come out and kick some ass.

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama and his family are heading off Friday for the weekend to a spectacular national park on the coast of Maine, no doubt hoping this latest jaunt doesn't fall victim to the Obama family travel hex.
That would be the one in which events seem to scramble the plans whenever Obama has his wife and daughters in the mix.
In a mere 18 months on the job, Obama has rolled up an impressive record of diversions, interruptions, delays and outright cancellations of planned family travel — all thanks to the nonstop demands of a turbulent presidency.
How about a big round of applause for Mark Smith at Minitrue AP for writing this pile of crap. Poor widdle Barry, being president keeps getting in the way of him on going on vacation.

AP-Atlanta
Billy McKinney, a 30-year member of the Georgia Legislature whose fiery persona helped boost his career as well as his daughter Cynthia's political prospects, died Thursday at the age of 83, said his wife, Leola.
He lost his legislative seat in 2002, the same year his daughter lost her congressional seat to Denise Majette. He was heard on television before the primary describing why he believed she faces such a tough battle: "J-E-W-S." He also called his daughter's opponent in the l990's a "racist Jew."

I've thought since since I saw her on Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

Me too. One of my favs.
I don't think that a movie with a musical score and cinematography of that quality constitutes a B movie. Same thing with Conan (the Barbarian). Sure it has its cheesy elements (what was with James Earl Jones' wig?!?), but between the score and the visuals, it can't be called a B movie.
Army of Darkness is a B movie.

Hotair's got some link to a story about Bristol and Levi looking to get a "reality show" going...
Palin isn't ever going to be president. Only a democrat can have a dysfunctional family and it get swept under the rug by the media.
I guess everyone on the right thought Levi Johnston realized he was a douche bag and decided to repent, but what I am guessing really happened was that the studio people told him they didn't want to pay him any more, so he figured if he could rope in Bristol then they would keep giving him money.
It's too bad Palin's daughter is that stupid, but she is a young girl with a baby so I guess it isn't too suprising that she needs some form of mail companionship.

At American Thinker they are describing a new push by the Obama adm at the FTC to take over the internet again with another form of net neutrality. This time they want to tax the internet and redistribute the money to “traditional media” (read newspapers).
The courts ruled that they could not impose “net neutrality” via executive fiat already so they are going to go after it with taxes. The courts have long held that congress’s power to tax is virtually unlimited. Is that going to apply to the executive department as well?
I guess that will depend on which side of the bed Kennedy gets up on.

You've seen the reports about Van Jones, President Obama's onetime "green jobs czar," and Cass Sunstein, his equally volatile "regulatory czar," and Fox News show host Glenn Beck has put together a list of dozens of such appointees.
Now here's the newest White House promotion: "Health food czar" Sam Kass.
"In a comical move even for a czar-happy president who has rewarded dozens of cronies with distinguished titles, the White House has named the Obamas' personal Chicago cook as 'Senior Policy Adviser for Healthy Food Initiatives,'" reports the Washington government watchdog Judicial Watch.
"It's no joke, even though it sounds like a bad one. The Chicago chef's rapid ascension ... has been kept under the radar for the last month," Judicial Watch said.

The Fifth Element is a decent movie, but Luc Besson gratuitously ripped off The Incall Light series of graphic novels big time, some of that were featured in Heavy Metal magazine back in the eighties which were epic and would have made better movies without even giving a slight nod or a hat tip. He practically plagiarized it. I knew the moment I saw it where he got his inspiration from.

It's popular in film circles. Luc Besson is considered an icon of French cinema. Maybe it was not as commercially successful as The Professional, but he won Best Director and Best French Director Cesar awards for The Filfth Element. American film critic Armand White praised Besson, who he claims is one of the best film producers, for refining and revolutionizing the action film, stating that Besson dramatizes the struggle of his characters "as a conscientious resistance to human degradation", unlike films of torture-porn genre. I would have to agree with this critic.
My favorite of his films is still Le Grand Bleu, an homage to his parents who were both Club Med scuba diving instructors. When it premiered at Cannes in 1988, it was mercilessly drubbed, but no matter; it was a smash", observed the International Herald Tribune in a 2007 profile of Besson. "Embraced by young people who kept returning to see it again, the movie sold 10 million tickets and quickly became what the French call a film générationnel, a defining moment in the culture."
So, Luc Besson has had his coups and flops, but The Fifth Element stands up as a great science fiction movie, as well as action and romance. It has it all and is easily a classic. And yes, I clipped a bit from Wiki.

Not sure what that's about, but Moebius and Jodoworsky sued Besson unsuccesfly over the film . Here's the quote from The Incal Light Wiki article.
Moebius and Jodorowsky sued Luc Besson, director of The Fifth Element, claiming that the film borrowed graphic and story elements from The Incal, but they lost their case.[1] In a 2002 interview with Danish comic book magazine Strip!, Jodorowsky actually claimed that he considered it an honour that somebody stole his ideas. Jodorowsky believes that authors do not create the stories they tell as much as they make personal interpretations of mythemes shared by the collective unconscious.

the Reid poll sucks this morning.
him with any sort of significant lead over angle is worrying, and it means more $$$ needs to be dumped immediately to STOP HIM.
Also, she needs to shut the fuck up. Let Reid's own bad numbers hang him, and remind people in ads about how awful things are. Thats it. Simple. No talk on social security, the unemployed and why giving them more $ is bad (because, you know, the unemployed really want to vote for someone who comes across as unsympathetic).
This is the Rights to lose, and they are potentially doing so- but its 3 months away, so time to open the checkbooks, find duct tape for angle's yapper, and to help nevadans sacrifice Reid.

Obama fiscal commission co-chair pans health billÂ’s impact on costsThe Democratic co-chair of President ObamaÂ’s fiscal commission said Wednesday that the presidentÂ’s health care bill will do very little to bring down costs, contradicting claims from the White House that their sweeping legislation will dramatically impact runaway entitlement spending.
“It didn’t do a lot to address cost factors in health care. So we’ve got a lot of work to do,” said Erskine Bowles, former White House chief of staff to President Bill Clinton, speaking about the new health law, which was signed into law by Obama this past spring after a nearly year-long fight in Congress.
Bowles, speaking at an event hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said that even with the passage of Obama’s legislation, health care costs are still going to “really eat us alive” unless dramatic changes are made. The commission will submit recommendations on how to fix America’s long term fiscal problems to Congress in December.

Mr. Bowles, please use the back exit and watch for a bus.

Moebius did the artwork however it was Alejandro Jodoworski's story. I guess you could say everything in Hollywood is pretty much ripped off or borrowed from something else. Shortly into the movie I started getting this vibe like I had seen it before. However, the moment I saw Korben Dallas I thought, holy crap, that's John DiFool ! If Besson would have just gone with The Incal Light instead it would have gone from a good movie to a great one and most likely spawned a few sequels. He basically mashed up the long premise into one movie.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Gov. Joe Manchin is tapping former chief counsel Carte Goodwin, a member of a prominent West Virginia family, to succeed the late U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd, Democratic officials told The Associated Press on Friday.
Three people familiar with the governor's pick spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment ahead of an official announcement.
Manchin is scheduled to present his appointee at a Friday afternoon press conference at the Capitol.
The 36-year-old Goodwin, a Charleston lawyer, would hold the seat until November. That's when the governor wants general election voters to decide who will serve the final two years of Byrd's term. The Legislature has begun a special session to consider a proposal from Manchin to allow for a fall vote.

The Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio launched its 16th crime and immigration sweep in a stretch of desert in the southwestern U.S.-Mexico border, on Thursday.
Although the next crime suppression operation had been announced for July 29, Arpaio said the one-day sweep was executed sooner due to reports of many drug and immigrant smugglers activity through the Vekol Valley.
Arpaio ordered the deployment of a powerful belt-fed .50 caliber machine gun to be on site during the operation to ensure deputies' safety, as there have been recent reports of violence in the desolate desert areas.
“If anyone shuts at our deputies, they are going to have a problem,” said Arpaio in a news conference in the minutes prior to the sweep.
I assume that's suppose to read: "If anyone SHOOTS at our deputies..."

The more mainstream party people were killed in favor of the hardcore small government conservatives. And the base voters were well able to sniff out mendacity.
