This is bound to send some of those rabid Cheney haters into a fit of apoplexy.

Hussein,
I don't understand the Instapundit part. Are you saying that Reynolds is part of the GOP rino wing? I really don't think he is. He's slamming Lott this morning, and he's been a big TP guy since before there was a TP.
Or did I misunderstand this part?

I am not to optimistic about the GOP winning. In the same way nancy pelosi controls the moderate and liberal democrats to do her bidding, we will have tards like Boehner and, if the republicans get control of the senate, that ass hat Mitch McConnell who won't defend the Tea Party.
I really don't think the GOP will accomplish anything even if they win other than slowing down the Obama agenda a bit. If if they had the balls to try and repeal stuff, which i don't think they do or even want to do, Obama will veto it.
We are going to have another shitty two years no matter what happens this november.

As the Professor pointed out the other day, the only way to change the party is grass-roots on up. Because the people at the top are not going to change. They are in it for themselves.

NASA changes it's story again.
One possible explanation is carbon dioxide (CO2).
When carbon dioxide gets into the thermosphere, it acts as a coolant, shedding heat via infrared radiation. It is widely-known that CO2 levels have been increasing in Earth's atmosphere. Extra CO2 in the thermosphere could have magnified the cooling action of solar minimum."But the numbers don't quite add up," says Emmert. "Even when we take CO2 into account using our best understanding of how it operates as a coolant, we cannot fully explain the thermosphere's collapse."
Jebus
BTW, still only one little Sun speck.

I agree with what you are saying. The old time Repubs resent the Tea Party because it threatens their way of life, that has been to go along to get along, do as little as possible, make as few waves as possible, send the pork back to projects that will enhance their image, and stand as close to the line that defines corruption as possible without getting caught crossing it from time to time.
As evidenced by a lot of what the entrenched Repubs have been saying of late, we will be as screwed with them as with the Dems. The only difference will be that the screwing that we will take from the entrenched Repubs will last longer and only prolong the inevitable.

And meanwhile there exists a movement that would virtually guarantee a house cleaning if it were successful.
Yet no one mentions it.

Mitch McConnell is right below Denny Hastert in the ineffective RINO leadership sweepstakes. Boehner started to show some spunk during the nonHealth Care debate, but he was neutered as soon as the CBC sprung the bogus racism charges.
I agree that change has to come from the grass roots. Unfortunately we are seeing GOP corruption in my area at the local level. It appears that most who get involved in politics, regardless of party, do it as a form of self-enrichment. We need term limits for congressmen and senators. The president is term-limited, so are governors. How do those Capitol Hill whores get a pass?

The problem is the leadership. McConnel and Boner need to resign their positions of leadership. Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, Jim Demint etc need to be running the party.
I think people like Boner and McConnel don't want to repeal any of Obama's initiative in the same way the Democrats didn't want to repeal the Patriot Act or other Bush laws once they were in control. Why give up power that took so long to get? The closer we get to the election the more I dislike the Republican party as it exists. They are running on the platform of not being Obama, which is fine to win, but they aren't making any policy announcements, with the exception of Paul Ryan's Roadmap.

129 91 Actually what I have been doing is continuing to work on that piece of crap computer of my wife's. I am about to give up on it.
Morning Vic.
I have seen this problem on a couple of computers before. It is most likely a failing motherboard. Keep the new stuff you bought and buy a new motherboard/processor/memory or maybe a whole new computer without operating system - and install your old one for a passable savings. Two places I buy from are tigerdirect.com and newegg.com.

Why the fuck isn't he having to "update his resume" and "go door-to-door" looking for a freekin' job instead of grandstanding in a setting paid for by hard-working Americans?

That's simply not true.
Please, give me an example of what the republican's have stated they will do?
I haven't yet read Paul Ryan's road map, but he is the only person who i've seen put down in writing plans for governing.
What are they doing to do about the Bush Tax cuts expiring? How are they going to repeal Obamacare? What are they going to do about unemployment? Cut Payroll taxes? Corporate Taxes?
I haven't seen any concrete promises other than that the statement that they aren't democrats.

Probably true (the guy is like 178 years old, for crying out loud):
Muslim Brotherhood has been waiting in the wings for a long time to take control.
Barry's vaunted "Smart Diplomacy" will need to be smarter than it has been if Egypt is to remain superficially moderate. (they've been producing Abrams tanks under license from the U.S. for years and have a huge arsenal.)

Joint USAF/NOAA Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity
SDF Number 199 Issued at 2200Z on 18 Jul 2010
Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 17/2100Z to 18/2100Z: Solar activity was very low. Region 1087 (N24W4
has a simple alpha magnetic classification. A further analysis of the SOHO/LASCO imagery from yesterday show a CME was observed on C3 imagery which can be correlated with the C2 x-ray flare at 17/1801Z. This event does not seem to be Earth directed.
Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be very low with a slight chance for a C-class flare from Region 1087.
Geophysical Activity Summary 17/2100Z to 18/2100Z: The geomagnetic field was quiet.
Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet levels for the next three days (19-21 July).

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is calling on Republicans to stop blocking a bill that would extend unemployment benefits to millions of out of work Americans.
Obama says Republican leaders are advancing a misguided notion that emergency relief discourages people from looking for work. He says that attitude reflects a lack of faith in the American public.
I thought Odumbo created 3 trillion new jobs. How come he needs to keep extending unemployment?

Ryan's Roadmap is the bellwether for the GOP. At present it's not just the only serious proposal put down in writing for review, it's the only one that offers a sane course out of the Sargasso Sea of federal entitlements that is destroying the Republic. That he doesn't attempt to everything in one fell swoop shows why Ryan should be on the short list for V.P. candidates in 2012.
To the extent that entrenched GOP pols ignore it or, worse, denigrate Ryan's plan, you will know how far to the left they have committed themselves and/or how completely they've dissociated themselves from Americans and the ideals over half of us still value.

Ben - Mercutio's line, "A pox on both of your houses", is inappropriate here. Nobody will ever agree with all of your positions on issues. You need to select the party that shares most of your positions on issues, and then give that party your full support, hoping that you and others who think like you do can get the rest of that party to shift their positions on issues. But then you know that already, don't you? So what's with the huffing and puffing?
BTW, Mitch McConnell is a good man. He has been doing the best job that he can do in an extremely diffucult situation. I'll reserve judgment on Boehner, however.

Or should I assume they are all biased towards the the last 20yrs as the norm.
There is no norm. We live in a dynamic Universe. Things change, constantly. You can't freeze time for some arbitrary number of years and say "This is the norm"!
It will alway change. What we have to do is deal with it.

49 maddogg - since we don't have any modern measurements of what a deep minimum would look like - how can NASA's models exclude the possibility. Or should I assume they are all biased towards the the last 20yrs as the norm. ( The same could apply to all of the climate models.)
The only reliable assumption I make is that they don't have any history, so they don't have a clue. Too many variables. Some people, including some scientists are in fear of the coming of the next ice age, but many don't want to contemplate that, because it would make global warming a piker as far as disasters go. The ice cores imply that the ice ages came on very quickly, maybe in as little as a decade. We are due for the next one, and when it comes, civilization will change vastly. And oh yeah, there will be a lot fewer people around to act stupid.
Posted by: maddogg at July 19, 2010 07:34 AM (OlN4e)
I love the way the NASA guys keep saying the solar minimum is coming to an end.
I'm sure it's all just part of their Muslim outreach program. See, you guys can feel better about yourselves now because pretty soon we'll all be living in some godforsaken wasteland, just like you do now.
We will however most likely retain the use of air conditioning and indoor plumbing, however you should feel really realy good about the fact that you folks have been living in shitty climates for centuries now whereas this will be a new thing for us here in the civilized world.
So thanks for all your contributions to math and science.. you know, like 1000+ years ago. You know, back when you used to concern yourself with a little more than just strapping bombs to yourselves just so you can kill a whole bunch of innocent people simply for the crime of not agreeing with your backward-ass view of religion. Who cares if the closest you'll ever get to space flight will be firing an RPG straight up in the air, your still special.
Allah Akbar, you whacky nuts.

You want to know the contrast between the postitions which Democrats take on issues and the positions which Republicans take on issues?
If you're paying attention, you should already know pretty much what positions the left-wing Democrats are taking on issues.
What is at play here are the positions which Rinos and moderate Democrats are taking on issues vs. the positions which more conservative Republicans are taking on issues.
If you've been watching the debates, you would recognize that whereas Rinos and moderate Demorats are taking the positions that they are essentially vowing that they will try to revise Obama's healthcare legislation, conservative Republican candidates are vowing that they will try to completely dismantle Obama's healthcare legislation, and whereas Rinos and moderate Democrats come down with liberal Democrats on advocating for amnesty and for Social Security, Medicare and pensions for illegal aliens, conservative Republicans are strenuously opposed to amnesty, Social Security, Medcare and especially pensions for illegal aliens. Those are the fundamental differences, and all that you need to know to make a sensible choice.
