3 OT: BP CEO Tony Hayward to resign within next 10wks

"People may not blame this situation on Tony Hayward, but you would be hard-pushed to find anyone within the company who does not think he is irreparably damaged - both by his own performance and by the event itself.”

Not especially surprising. It's been common knowledge that he'll resign after the well is capped, but The Times of London is the 1st source to get it in writing. Also interesting that BP is making the move to prevent a takeover by Shell or Exxon Mobil, which would actually be better for everyone involved.

Questions also persist over the future of Carl-Henric Svanberg, BPÂ’s chairman, who joined only on January 1, when the doomed Macondo drilling program was already well advanced.

He is actually in danger of being fired outright, if I understand correctly. The shareholders are angered that he didn't do more to support Hayward.

8 Well, my (large) company is hiring...but all new hires are temp-as-needed, with no benefits. It's almost as if we're hedging against getting hammered by rising health benefit costs due to certain recent legislation or something...

Shocking. Inconceivable. Yes.

9 Forgot to remove the OT-- whoops.

David Cameron had a long meeting with 4 senators last night, & they encouraged him to hold an inquiry on the Lockerbie bomber question. He had been rightly blaming the Scottish parliament, but it now looks as though he'll ask his govt to review documents. So, no full inquiry, just a review. (Which is the best thing, considering it is a British matter.)

War is not a civilized act.  It is not clean, humane, or kind.

The things that keeps war from being a perpetual human state are the same things that make it abhorent; its savagery, cruelty and disgustedness.

I live in Tard Town:

Residents of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Hazleton metropolitan area are among the least educated in the United States, according to the Brookings Institution, a Washington, D.C.-based researcher.

Using data from the Brookings Institution, the political website the Huffington Post reported this week that the local metro area ranks 91st out of the 100 largest metro areas in number of adults 25 years and older who have a bachelor's degree.

Only 21 percent of the 385,024 adults in the region hold a bachelor's degree, the report stated. Census 2008 data estimates, which are the most recent available, show the same percentage for the local metro area.

33 Cake or death? Anyway, this morning Chris Awesome Christie unveiled an idea to have the state take over Atlantic City. http://tinyurl.com/272a7vn I am not usually into govt takeovers, but this is probably a good idea. AC has *such* potential; it has been painful to watch it suck for so long. Any shakeup, at this point, is probably better than the status quo over there. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Might be a bad idea. Interesting that he came up with it tho.

I don't feel for them one iota in this case.

Breitbart started this, admittedly, but the reaction (firing/resigning, hand-wringing, denunciation, finger-pointing, retraction), was entirely self-inflicted both by the NAACP and by the White House.

Everyone involved could have waited one day, and there would be little to no scandal to talk about.

that there will be something along the line of 100,000 ads showing him and Bush together and that every other word in that campaign will be "Bush" then it will show that America has turned the corner and that Obama will no longer be able to blame Bush and will be held accountable for the messes he has created in 2012.

Roy Blunt of Missouri has a campaign ad on YouTube linking his opponent to 0bama. The ad is titled: Missouri's Future.

re: the NAACP/Breitbart dustup - I'm glad that someone is exposing the hypocrisy of those who try to smear the TEA party as racist. I don't see that the effort to marginalize the TEA party is all that effective.Seeing more Gadsden flags on homes in my area, and support for the TEA party coming from unexpected sources. While the Alinskyites are focussing their tactics on the TEA party, their leader 0bama has done the most damage to their cause by allowing the lawsuit against AZ to proceed. This is the issue that will tank the dems in November.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too, but I saw Andrew B on Hannity last night and he's sticking to his guns.  He said he received the video in April (although it didn't work).  He forgot about it.  Then, when the NAACP started on the "Tea Partiers are Racist" meme, he remembered it and contacted the DVD-challenged sender and asked for a re-send.

His point was to fight fire with fire and show that while there's no evidence that the TP is racist, there's plenty to show that the NAACP is.  I'd forgotten all about them hosting Calypso Louie at their spring mtg., but WZ didn't.  They have it up today.

WZ also has Journolist quotes about watching Rush die in front of an NPR reporter's eyes and taking over FOX news.
