"People may not blame this situation on Tony Hayward, but you would be hard-pushed to find anyone within the company who does not think he is irreparably damaged - both by his own performance and by the event itself.”
Not especially surprising. It's been common knowledge that he'll resign after the well is capped, but The Times of London is the 1st source to get it in writing. Also interesting that BP is making the move to prevent a takeover by Shell or Exxon Mobil, which would actually be better for everyone involved.
Questions also persist over the future of Carl-Henric Svanberg, BPÂ’s chairman, who joined only on January 1, when the doomed Macondo drilling program was already well advanced.
He is actually in danger of being fired outright, if I understand correctly. The shareholders are angered that he didn't do more to support Hayward.

Administrations in recent memory have worked hard from their first day in office to establish a legacy.
The Obama administration has firmly established their legacy:
The Jerky Knees Gang.
Evidence:
Do now or people will die.
Unemployment will not go above 9%.
Police acted stupidly.
Pull over and resign.
etc., etc.

David Cameron had a long meeting with 4 senators last night, & they encouraged him to hold an inquiry on the Lockerbie bomber question. He had been rightly blaming the Scottish parliament, but it now looks as though he'll ask his govt to review documents. So, no full inquiry, just a review. (Which is the best thing, considering it is a British matter.)

Breitbart took a sloppy swing at a powerful, determined foe. Not a good idea. He said he didn't have the full tape. I really really hope so.
If you're going to swagger & threaten, you'd better be sure you have a knockout punch.

War is not a civilized act. It is not clean, humane, or kind.
The things that keeps war from being a perpetual human state are the same things that make it abhorent; its savagery, cruelty and disgustedness.
The Taliban, like the Viet Cong, understand that:
And that's why we will eventually abandon and lose this war.

Breitbart didn't fire anyone, nor did he force anyone to issue hastily retracted public statements.
Sherrod didn't have to resign.

I live in Tard Town:
Residents of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Hazleton metropolitan area are among the least educated in the United States, according to the Brookings Institution, a Washington, D.C.-based researcher.
Using data from the Brookings Institution, the political website the Huffington Post reported this week that the local metro area ranks 91st out of the 100 largest metro areas in number of adults 25 years and older who have a bachelor's degree.
Only 21 percent of the 385,024 adults in the region hold a bachelor's degree, the report stated. Census 2008 data estimates, which are the most recent available, show the same percentage for the local metro area.

And they all vote Democrat.

I don't feel for them one iota in this case.
Breitbart started this, admittedly, but the reaction (firing/resigning, hand-wringing, denunciation, finger-pointing, retraction), was entirely self-inflicted both by the NAACP and by the White House.
Everyone involved could have waited one day, and there would be little to no scandal to talk about.

Just out of idle curiosity, is there a list of the "journalists" who were on Journolist yet? I have some extreme prejudice to render against those idiots and the people who employ them. Conde Nast is one. The publish Wired, where Ackerman spews his garbage.
I want to organize a boycott of these people.

I don't believe that for a second. He said that showing the tape was an indictment of racism on parade within the NAACP, not an indictment against Sherrod. The NAACP and the USDA and the administration acted stupidly.

that there will be something along the line of 100,000 ads showing him and Bush together and that every other word in that campaign will be "Bush" then it will show that America has turned the corner and that Obama will no longer be able to blame Bush and will be held accountable for the messes he has created in 2012.
Roy Blunt of Missouri has a campaign ad on YouTube linking his opponent to 0bama. The ad is titled: Missouri's Future.
re: the NAACP/Breitbart dustup - I'm glad that someone is exposing the hypocrisy of those who try to smear the TEA party as racist. I don't see that the effort to marginalize the TEA party is all that effective.Seeing more Gadsden flags on homes in my area, and support for the TEA party coming from unexpected sources. While the Alinskyites are focussing their tactics on the TEA party, their leader 0bama has done the most damage to their cause by allowing the lawsuit against AZ to proceed. This is the issue that will tank the dems in November.

Anyway, this morning Chris Awesome Christie unveiled an idea to have the state take over Atlantic City.
During his tenure as US Attorney he prosecuted organized crime figures so I guess he knows what he's up against. Although at this point the NJEA probably makes the real mob look tame.

Jane, this is too weird. I've been meaning to send a care pkg to a soldier (son of an acquaintance) and wanted to send baked goods until his dad told me the son was trying to lose weight. However, I found this site just a minute ago, which has a separate heading for sending baked goods overseas.
You know what I think would go over big for D'oh Boy? Marshmallow Treats. Yeah, they're hokey, but they're always the first thing to go at bake sales, and I think they'd hold up well under different temps.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too, but I saw Andrew B on Hannity last night and he's sticking to his guns. He said he received the video in April (although it didn't work). He forgot about it. Then, when the NAACP started on the "Tea Partiers are Racist" meme, he remembered it and contacted the DVD-challenged sender and asked for a re-send.
His point was to fight fire with fire and show that while there's no evidence that the TP is racist, there's plenty to show that the NAACP is. I'd forgotten all about them hosting Calypso Louie at their spring mtg., but WZ didn't. They have it up today.
WZ also has Journolist quotes about watching Rush die in front of an NPR reporter's eyes and taking over FOX news.

Jane if you are still lurking; my mom used to make me rum balls and mail them over when I was in 'Nam out at sea. When I opened the package the odor would waft out all over the birthing area and folks would gather like locusts at a grain field.
Fond memories.

I don't think that's a completely fair characterization (although she admits she used to date Bathtub Boy, which is sickening to contemplate); unlike Medved, she refutes most nutjobs immediately and doesn't let them drone on unchallenged. I prefer Levin and Tammy Bruce to her but still enjoy listening to her.

That's because Gallup added more dems to their polling mix. RedState has the break down.

The guy (clearly offended) says, "Well, yes I am. But let me ask you something. If I had asked for Italian sausage, would you ask me if I was Italian? Or if I had asked for German Bratwurst, would you ask me if I was German? Or if I asked for a kosher hot dog would you ask me if I was Jewish? Or if I had asked for a Taco, would you ask if I was Mexican?' If I asked for some Irish whiskey, would you ask if I was Irish?"
The clerk says, "Well, no, I probably wouldn't!"
With deep self-righteous indignation, the guy says, "Well then, why did you ask me if I'm Polish because I asked for Polish sausage?"
The clerk replied, "Because you're in Home Depot."

Not Headlines, but sidebar...I have been found on the floor of the Valencia Club on more than one occasion. Used to be a great dive-bar, Elvis impersonator every Saturday night. A real landmark, been there since the 30's, when it was on the precursor to Highway 80.
Gotta admire the guy's cohones for giving an interview to the local paper...LOL.

Admin officials reconsider Sherrod firing
Perhaps they should have thought things through before they fired her.
This administration has been operating on the racist principle so they have to jump the gun or they will lose the innitiative.
