'Morning, y'all. I saw something weird yesterday. No, in real life, not on this blog.
I've seen two cars now with new LSU license plates that have purple tiger stripes running down the plate. They are supposed to look like this, but instead, the purple is so dark that you can barely read the license plate number! I can't imagine the police are going to be okay with this.
Not to mention that it was distracting to stare at it to see if I could actually make out the numbers and letters! Very strange.

So does the Judge's decision mean there's a good chance Arizona's immigration law will get overturned?
no, it just delayed the inevitable. This will probably end up in the supreme court. The law was written in a way that mirrors federal immigration law. The only difference is how it works in practice. In practice our federal government doesn't follow the law, and in practice arizona planned to follow and implement the law.
That is the main issue of contention, i think.
The supreme court will declare it constitutional. Especially now the Obama pissed Kennedy off so much by bitching about the supreme court during that state of the union.

Just reading the article demonstrates the saccharine nature of it. Though this is rather funny:
"Look, I was trying to find a show that Michelle actually watched, and
so I thought this is it, right here," he said, according to ABC, which
airs the show. "All those new shows, she's like, eh, let me get the
clicker."

When can a State demand a hearing from the SCOTUS?
i don't know. I am guessing it goes to the 9th circuit, they agree with the clinton appointed judge, and then someone, the state, a private group, etc petition the supreme court to review the case.
I don't think they can just tell SCOTUS to review it, i am sure they will take the route everyone takes. Local court, district court, then supreme court.

I saw the trailer a few days ago & was blown away. Very powerful.
I had made this comment on the ONT and, as my luck would have it, the morning thread opened & I got deserted. Question pertains to Vic's comment that the second soldier has been found dead now. Why don't combat soldiers get fitted with implanted chips of some sort that would help determine their locale if they are abducted? I've always wondered that.

Not everyone cares for the old stiff upper lip: “I spit on your British phlegm!” as the Khazi of Kalabar remarked in what remains the seminal work on Afghanistan, Carry on up the Khyber. But imperialism requires a certain dotty élan. Without it, it’s no fun. You’re just a guy holed up in a Third World dump occasionally venturing out in the full RoboCop to pretend to implement some half-assed multilateral “nation-building” strategy that NATO defence ministers all agreed to at some black-tie banquet in Brussels and then promptly forgot about.

The funny thing about drappin' da Bomb on the Japanese is that those 2 bombs saved millions of Japanese lives. Millions. They should fukkin' thank us.
i would venture to say 10s of millions. As i said in the War Book Thread a few days back, read Codename Downfall which reviews the Allied plan to invade mainland Japan.
They were going to use nukes like normal bombs during the land invasion. Also, it doesn't discount the suicides, starvation and deaths from building to building fighting in the city.
While incinerating 100+ thousand people in a second wasn't the pinnacle of mankinds achievement, it sure beat the alternative.

That is my point. Dropping those bombs is not something to be proud of, but it did precipitate an end of a combat that would have been disastrous for us, but catastrophic to the Japanese.

Well, as a vet myself, honestly I don't think I'd be all that thrilled about being lo-jacked. The only way it would do you much good would be to put it someplace that it couldn't easily be removed, and it's not something I'd like to be carrying around inside me now, considering the fact that my own government now considers me a likely terrorist. I am an honorably discharged veteran and have attended a tea party event or two, apparently that makes me a threat. So no, I'd really rather not have a gps tracker surgically embedded in me somewhere that our government can track.

This 1099k will add another week of work for me.
So starting Jan 1 , I will have to file a 941, pay the 940, the UC-2, UC-2A, PA state taxes, local taxes, the local services tax, every employees W-2, then file the W-3(with copies of all the w-2s) with the federal government, all contractors 1099s for their work and a separate one for their expenses, then file the 1096 (with copies of all the 1099s) with the federal government. Oh and then there is the estimated 1040 and PA 40ES estimated taxes.
then i have all of the other stuff to do related to my job
My january is going to be a f;ing blast.
There 1099Ks are going to kill me

What do you have against the color purple?
Nothing until I moved here and found the entire state turns purple on Saturdays in the fall.
The state symbol is the fleur de lis (see helmet, Saints). Well, it's on just about everything. Then there is the sportsman's f-d-l, which shows what you can kill 'round here. And if that's not enough, you can get a purple and gold sportsman's f-d-l.

They'll have to pick at least one provision (probably a handful) to throw out on the basis of "field preemption," because with the (probable) exception of Thomas, they don't want to ash-heap a doctrine that's so handy when they want to increase or maintain federal power.

I know. I know, Lefites. Back in March Obama took a five minute photo op with the Boy Scouts - and Cub Scouts, and Explorers - who presented Him with the yearly update about Scouting. There will be one next of those photo ops next year, too. The fact that Obama didn't recoil from the sight of Scouts in uniform tells us all that he values Scouting ...or something.
Meanwhile, this week at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, the Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th anniversary with the National Jamboree. The National Jamboree comes around once every four years so it's a big deal as scouts usually get one opportunity to attend this event. There are about 50,000 scouts there, plus a hell of a lot of adult volunteers. For those that don't know - the National Jamboree has each Scout spending about a year getting prepared for this.
Special troops are formed from local Scout troops. They meet as Jamboree Troops for nine months (plus they keep their regular troop meetings). They go on extra camping trips to get to know each other, plus do a full dry-run with only gear that they're allowed to take, prior to heading to Fort AP HillSo, it's a big deal. My older son is at the Jamboree.
He's a Life Scout/Order of the Arrow member, so he's been in Scouting for a couple of years already. He called in yesterday. {For the benefit of those that like to read faster than I write - my son's is non-political and we tend to talk about things like when he's going to mow the grass and he tells me what sort of car I should be buying him {which will be a 1973 tan Chevy Nova, btw]}
He called last night. The Jamboree is well-run and the weather is nicer than expected. The campsite is hella-big -it's a three mile hike across thee base to get to certain activities. On to Obama. There's a "rocker" patch given out each day of the Jambo. These rocker patches go around the main Jambo patch that's on the shirt pocket. The patch for yesterday was an Obama patch. This is because the President is the ceremonial head of the BSA and he was scheduled to give an address at the Opening 100th Anniversary Arena Show.
According to the people there, he was supposed to appear in person, and then that was changed to appearing by video. {I know the White House's side of the story)
Well. Obama was late.
Like hella-late ... so tens of thousands of Scouts, plus adults, standing around waiting for Himself to Appear.Which Obama did not.Obama was a No-Show.My son's comment last night was "this was lame. I stood in line for 45 minutes to get the rocker patch and then we waited and waited and President Obama didn't appear."
It is, however, well-known to all at the National Jamboree that Obama was taping an appearance on "The View". My son then went on to say that the food was good, that the guys he's camping with are getting along,
Anyway, President Obama: Mission Accomplished.
You've successfully pissed off a significant segment of young people who are extremely likely to vote in 2014. Boy Scouts being civic-minded and active participants and all.
I called the BSA National Jamboree Press tent. Per the press contact, Presidnet Obama is now scheduled to appear at the Saturday Arena show, by video.
There is no official explanation as to the change or for the confusion from either the BSA or the White House. Or why the BSA would hand out the Obama-themed rocker on Tuesday to 50,000 kids rather than on Saturday.
My opinion, given the Orwellian nature of Obama - He will have always been scheduled to give a talk on Saturday and we will always have been at war with Oceania.
Here's the Press Contact:
Thursday, July 29, 2010
Contact: National News and Media
Telephone: 972-914-USA1 (8721)
I'll be attending the simulcast of the 100th Anniversary Arena Show at a stadium in Allentown. I'm sure we'll all be delighted with what Obama has to say, once he gets around to it.

What amazes me is that we address our civil servant political representatives with the title, Honorable.
Yet now we casually and offhandedly associate virtually every single one of them with dishonesty, graft, corruption - basically everything dishonorable. By-n-large we have grown accustomed to being disgusted with our politicians.
We need to demand more from them. We should demand that they "serve" to the standard that their title we address them with implies.

Time > The BP Spill: Has the Damage Been Exaggerated?
Apparently, we the people have been stupid enough to think there will be permanent damage to the ecological system from the actual oil -- or so the article claims. They also say that Rush had a point about the size of the spill.
Posted by: Miss'80sBaby at July 29, 2010 10:19 AM (HQSQk)
This is the first draft of rewriting history. What little incompetence shown by the Obama administration didn't matter because there wasn't much ecological damage done anyway. If this had happened under Bush, of course, they'd still have an army of reporters down there exaggerating the ecological damage. And every year on the anniversary they'd have crews turning over rocks, digging up the beach and so on looking for remaining traces of the spill while interviewing "experts" on the long term damage done.Posted by: Ed Anger at July 29, 2010 06:41 AM (7+pP9)

Better Levin, IMO, than Pissy Chrissy Matthews or Sean "let not your heart be troubled" Hannity. At least Levin displays honest outrage.
Drudge on radio suffered from what I detest about John Bitchelor: that rump-ranger speaking style, allied with a propensity for dishing and swishing with his guests.

I used to think that CNN's Rick Sanchez was just stupid. But after listening to his zany perspective, distortions and explanation of Judge Bolton's irresponsible and sleazy decision yesterday, I have now come to believe that, like Robert Gibbs, he is a deliberate propogandist for the Obama Administration, always deliberately putting their spin on the issues which he raises.
In other words, nobody, but nobody could be that stupid, unless it was intentional.
BTW, HLN's Robin Meade has some zany perspectives, too. But what she has working for her in her favor is that, as with Fox's Ainesley Earhart, she is such a hotty that, more often than not whenever she is speaking, I lust after her and I just tune-out what she is saying, which has me wondering if perhaps, in collusion with the Obama Administration, those diabolical cable news networks are conspiring with each other to deliberately create distractions, so as to deprive men from learning about what is going on in the world.

Larry the Lounge Lizard and Tetris were my introduction to PC games, back in the late 80s. I spent more time on Tetris.
A whole lot of Nauga's died to make that door.. lol.. Yup, Larry was a classic.

And my dislike of Elisabeth Hasselbeck goes unabated. The only reason they keep her on that crap fest is because she's so unable to articulate anything in a calm and reasonable manner, therefore she's their perfect "conservative".

Vic, if the sun ever comes out again, I'll be able to check the tree more. There are dark spots because it's been wet for the last two days!
The shed roof is asphalt shingles. The scorch marks are on the outside wall and the bottom of the roof overhang. Inside the shed, the ceiling and top of the wall are burnt and the bottle of Windex that was on the top shelf is burnt and melted.
I'm wondering if it did hit the roof of the shed and the shingles just aren't showing the damage??

My view is, kill something every day, no matter how small or insignificant, it builds proficiency. That's the old soldier in me.
Gekkos are awesome. When I was a kid in Oahu, they were all over the place. Scared the bejeepers out of my Mom for the first year or so.
Giant Hawaiian centipedes though, they're the critter from Hades.

Ran across this little gem today, it's about Leslie Macko, one of those "poor unforunate souls" that Obama trotted out to decry the republicans in Congress for not extending unemployment benefits.
Seems Leslie is indeed unemployed, but what you may not know is that she was found guilty of prescription drug fraud in March 2009, and lost her job just one month after the conviction.
Coincidence? Gosh.. do you think?
Maybe somebody on the white house staff should have handed her one of those white lab coats before putting her on stage.. those always make you look so much more official and all.

Most blog software closes comments on posts a certain number of days after they're posted (usually 14 or 21) so that can't happen (it's a plugin for WordPress, don't know the details on Movable Type). But this place runs on a fully-custom pile of Pixy Python so

Hey Joanie, is your real name either Sarah Ridinngs or Densy Baldwin, by any chance?
You don't need to identify yourself. A simple "yes" will suffice.

I'd love to see the US commemorate this event every year. With a Hiroshima flyover of a squadron of B-29s.
Just as a reminder, y'know. The planes don't have to be armed. Right now.

Lightning doesn't follow gravity. We had multiple bolts come into our house through closed windows one time. Maybe it was the aluminum storm window frames that gave it a path? It didn't do any damage but it was quite a shocker.Posted by: Ed Anger at July 29, 2010 07:59 AM (7+pP9)
