I have posted on this before but it has gotten to be just ridiculous what the government is doing, what they are saying, and what is actually being reported. This is a fine example of that from a story in the WSJ (via link from Drudge)

The headline screams

U.S. Plans Cyber Shield for Utilities, Companies

They follow that with a picture of a Control Room for a nuclear power plant (supposedly the BWR at Limerick, PA) and the following paragraphs leading in.

The federal government is launching an expansive program dubbed "Perfect Citizen" to detect cyber assaults on private companies and government agencies running such critical infrastructure as the electricity grid and nuclear-power plants, according to people familiar with the program.

The surveillance by the National Security Agency, the government's chief eavesdropping agency, would rely on a set of sensors deployed in computer networks for critical infrastructure that would be triggered by unusual activity suggesting an impending cyber attack, though it wouldn't persistently monitor the whole system, these people said.

(Emphasis mine)

I will repeat this once again, NO utility controls their grid using the internet AND not only does no utility control their nuclear power plants using the internet but it is against the damn law for them to do that!  So any time you hear the feds say they are putting out a project to prevent someone from hijacking those controls you must know that it is a damn lie and other things are at work.

What they are doing is setting up a program to spy on the Internet traffic for whatever means they want at the time.

Story at Weasel Zippers:

Consumers Union Supports ObamaÂ’s Rationer-In-Chief Berwick

This is the reason I dropped Consumer Reports after years of getting the magazine. This organization started out as a good idea and maintained itself over the years very well evaluating products based on careful criteria. Beginning in the late 70s though other factors for evaluation started creeping in; safety, then “greenness”, and then how it was manufactured. When how many MPG a car got became a factor in whether or not a car is a “good consume deal” I through up my hands. That subscription went in the toilet.

Sadly, almost every magazine in the country has gone the same route. You would think that niche magazines catering to small sections of the public (like Discover) would keep the politics out of the magazine in order to appeal to the largest possible audience, but no. It appears that since all the writers are extreme liberals it is impossible for them to keep their liberal views out of the articles.

In the above cited example at Weasel, not only has Consumer Reports gone liberal, but they are actively endorsing political candidates and their policies.

I am glad I dropped their magazine and I no longer get any magazines.

LOL, you know you have lost it as a liberal when the Opinion Page of the New York Post slams your ass. They unload on ObamaÂ’s AZ suit hard:

A contemptible suit

The White House says President Obama had nothing to do with the Justice Department's challenge to Arizona's immigration law, insisting the decision was Attorney General Eric Holder's alone.

Please.

This is a political lawsuit, driven by Obama's drop in the polls among Hispanics and Democrats' hope of bringing out Latinos this fall by hanging an anti-immigrant millstone around the GOP's neck.

The Arizona statute, on the other hand, is chiefly about the rule of law.

Read the whole thing its great.

And that concludes my "headlines"

I am glad I dropped their magazine and I no longer get any magazines.

The uber-PCness of everything was annoying to me but not any more than I could handle, since it's not too hard to instantly filter or translate stuff in my head while I'm reading/watching/listening.  But the all-green-all-the-time is more than I can handle.  I am sick to death of every stupid product/program/pamphlet being GREEN.  Just because the rest of the world insists on committing themselves to useless stupidity, doesn't mean I have to follow along.

Someone at work had subscribed. I read an editorial, they were all for the Net Neutrality scam. Consumer Reports is now just another propaganda arm for George Soros. I'm sure they're still credible with their washer-dryer reviews, but I can go to the library to get that.

IOW, the primary reason for the magazine has been subverted. It is the same thing as the NASA subversion.

79 Vic - I disagree, most people are resigned to it (death and taxes) - but randomly ask people how much the Feds withheld per annum or per check. Very few will know the answer. Put that money in their hands, then make them write a big check to Uncle Sugar, will make them notice and care. At a minimum, voter participation will go up.

I find it amazing how really clear headed kids actually are. I remember their asking what abortion was. I told them. They were so incredibly horrified--this was at 7-8 years old. I have never been able to figure out how you go from that to thinking it's a great human right.

They are also noticing their pay checks. The 15 year old worked 26 hours in the first pay period in 100 degree heat as a life guard. He was paid well ( $11.59/hr) but told me to tell grandma that she owed him $18.68 for his medicare contribution.

81 Mallamutt - the "rally around the flag" support for the executive is a fleeting effect. The oil spill will bump Crist in the short term; but in the long term it will hurt him - esp. if he is tied to Obama - then he can't blame the Feds for the eventual screw-ups.

Don't worry about Rubio.  He's keeping most of his powder dry for when the dolts from the crazy Florida counties (Palm Beach/Broward/Miami-Dade) are paying attention, which will definitely not be before the August 24 primary. Why waste the $ now, when the race is staying so close?

In the meantime, let Guv Orange Glow spend his ill-gotten campaign money - and run his mouth.  It's given Rubio so much campaign fodder.

Indeed, many of the commercials are most likely writing themselves at this very minute.

And then the debates - Rubio will crush him.

89 I have never been able to figure out how you go from that to thinking it's a great human right.

"Ack, that could have been me all scrambled up at the abortion clinic" becomes "Ack, my paycheck is going to get garnished for the next 18-25 years if I don't convince her to go to the abortion clinic." Self-preservation, sorta?

Gabe, I can only tell you what I've learned looking up old girlfriends on Facebook: "I remember when you were really hot...." is definitely not well-taken. Posted by: Michael Rittenhouse at July 08, 2010 10:21 AM

We all have one of those in our Facebook friends list. I have one that was as hot as the day is long back in HS, but got involved with meth, and now looks like 50 miles of bad road.

101

I don't understand how women can kill their babies on purpose, but I've never been pregnant so I'm not allowed to judge, or something.

Yeah, well I've been pregnant 4 times. Three "unplanned" which is a stupid way to think about it since I was having sex and sex makes babies. Every single time I was overwhelmed with an intense desire to protect the fragile life living inside of me. When the third baby died in utero, I was as devastated as with any death I had ever experienced. It still haunts me. I cannot grasp how women normally go through all kinds of discomfort and sacrifice (coffee, antiacids, food, booze, crappy food, privacy, salt, figure, constipation) to strengthen their baby but then can turn around an kill one if they find it inconvenient. The disconnect here between sex and conception is very strange, especially for women whose sexual urges don't completely drain their brains of blood supply.

Ack, my paycheck is going to get garnished for the next 18-25 years if I don't convince her to go to the abortion clinic." Self-preservation, sorta?

Don't have sex if you don't want a baby to the point you would kill it? Is that really that hard a concept or that hard not to do? I did have pre-marital sex but only with the man I married or would have married if there had been a "mistake" and even then used multiple birth control methods. The idea that casual sex is ok because infantiside. is ok blows my mind.

106 I find that saying someone has a "pre pubescent outlook" is a nice insult.  If you follow it up with "she is very bright but lacks the common sense to come in out of the rain"....that always packs a punch.  "She has a cheerful sunny disposition, unless you give her more work than she thinks she wants to do, then that disposition changes, with such rapid fire that you ask yourself why you even bothered, but, when she is happy, she is a joy, it's just when that alternate personality comes out that you begin to look at your office and your desk as a bunker". (that one works)
