More Americans UNEXPECTEDLY filed applications for unemployment insurance last week, signaling firings stepped up as the economy slowed.

Initial jobless claims rose by 2,000 to 484,000 in the week ended Aug. 7, the highest level since mid February, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The number of people receiving unemployment benefits dropped, while those getting supplemental benefits surged by 1.34 million reflecting the governmentÂ’s extension of eligibility.

Posted by: CoolCzech at August 12, 2010 09:34 AM (tJjm/) Blacks do, indeed, have much higher rates of abortions than whites or other minority groups. In 2000, while blacks made up 17 percent of live births, they made up more than twice that share of abortions (36 percent). If those aborted children had been born, the number of blacks born would have been slightly over 50 percent greater than it was.

Someone commented that 8% of all U.S. births are to illegals.  Holy mackrel, that is high.  Way too high.

Anyway, I hate the idea of restricting citizenship to those whose parents are legal only.  If you are born here, you are a citizen.  That is my position.

Because otherwise, it seems to me that it becomes a self perpetuating problem.

If the native born children of illegal aliens aren't citizens, does that mean that the grand children of said native born citizens aren't citizens too?

This sounds like a way to create a permanant illegal / under class...

The way to combat this is to simply get control of the border.  If we control the border, the number of "anchor babies" will be a very small, manageable number.  If we don't, we get this "8%" number.

Which makes me pessimistic.

Agreed.  I would also throw in one more little thing.  If a person moves out of the US and wants to renounce citizenship, the government of the US should be obligated to acknowledge that renunciation and claim no further authority over that person, nor right to his property, or any right to tax him.

No way, Ed.

When the amendment was written/passed after the Civil War, no one could foresee hordes of illegals streaming across the border in search of jobs/welfare/free medical care, or that they would seize on a misinterpretation of the law to carve a niche for themselves here without going through the steps legal immigrants must take.

A "permanent underclass?" We've got it now. Illegals get here and are received with the nearest thing to open arms by the Osama Obama regime. There is no reason for them to leave.

The 14th Amendment should be repealed, and the existing laws must be enforced. Illegals must leave, or be subject to the same delays, expense and bureaucratic hassles facing legal immigrants.

(And I know about the latter. I had to bring a Canadian wife to the US legally some years ago, and it was neither fun nor easy. Currently, a close friend is going through the process; it is consuming much of her bank account and time.)

Build the damn fence. Make illegals who are here either get into the system or leave. Ease the process for those who follow the law.

I realize that respect for the "law" is is vanishing under the Traitor-in-Chief, but that has to end on all fronts, not just immigration.

I feel no sympathy for those poor, oppressed illegals, at least no more than I feel for anyone else who breaks the law and then expects the system to welcome, feed, clothe, house and medicate them.

74 Birthright Citizenship is a constitutional issue. The Constitution says nothing about the alien (legal or illegal) mothers retaining custody. Changing a ICE regulation so that one has 30days to register at the appropriate consulate as a birth abroad - or the little US citizen becomes a ward of the state, is much easier.

Beck played audio of Bertha Lewis, Van Jones and Al Gore (Mr. Chakra's audio was from the last day or two).  Bertha told her audience, "They're coming for you."  Van said, "You need to mobilize; you need to get out on the street."  Chakra Boy said, "I'm calling you to action. Your govt at every level has failed you."

Beck's theory is since the progs can't "poke" the Tea Party into violence, they're working to incite it themselves from their base.  The govt saying it was taking $26B from Food Stamps to give to union teachers was meant to incite those farthest left.

Indeed - and folks can say what they want about religious freedom, but I seriously doubt the Founders anticipated America welcoming millions of folks who worship a child molester and are committed to a murder cult.  And in a more enlightened time, such newcomers would have been made to feel very unwelcome indeed.  Yet here we are today - importing as many of the worlds poorest and most backward muslims as we can.  I love the constitution, but the Founders could not have anticipated the lunacy we have going on today.  Some matters need to be taken in hand and resolved, and that may require Amendments.

83 The problem with illegal births, in my opinion, is attitude.  My dad was born here, but he was well aware of the struggle it was for his parents to make sure he was.  As such, he began school not speaking English, etc. and worked really hard to lose his accent.  And was a confirmed patriot.  All ten of my grandparents children never considered themselves anything but American, and proud of it.  That seems to be missing from the illegals today.  Burning American flags, while waving their own countrys flag, makes you wonder why they are here.

Once in college I had a quote-unquote "conversation" with a girl whose grandparents were from Mexico. She spoke glowingly about how they and her parents spoke both English and Spanish. I tried to point out that my grandparents didn't know a second language because they didn't need one and had more important things to do. I never got that far; she interrupted me with a triumphant, laughing, "Because they're stupid!"

I didn't call her on it because I'm white and that would have been raaaaacist.

But Grimaldi's is going to court for failure to pay rent. Rumor has it they're moving to the city. I think their pizza is overrated, and Frank Sinatra never ate there.

Yes, yes.

Jorge Boosh is probably in full agreement with Osama Obama on this issue, if no others. Dubya set a new standard for American presidents in sucking up to the Mexicans and putting the rights of illegals ahead of those of American citizens (see: the railroading of Ramos and Compean).

Oh, yeah. He took "tolerance" of Muzzies to a new high, too.

But, in the end, Bush is a patriotic American, and if the conflict between his crappy squish views and the best interests of the nation had grown too strong, he would have laid his opinions aside and done what what was right.

No one can honestly say that about the Traitor-in-Chief.

This is exactly the attitude.  I've even got that crap from Puerto Ricans, who are nominally American.  They come from failed states - nations that failed because their culture and way of doing things were WRONG, and stupid, and yet they have the gall to come here and act like our betters.  Screw that.  The Spanish Empire was a worthless corpse long, long before it was officially broken up and overthrown.  Degenerate, moribund, worthless.  Anglo-Saxon language and culture have brought modernity, order, and comfort to every nation where they are predominant.

We need a 50 year, total moratorium on all immigration (except maybe the occassional nuclear physicist or inventor or such) until we can Americanize the ones we have.  And hopefully during that time we can re-Americanize the Liberals, too.

97 Immigration the topic?  Once again my version of real reform:

Yes we need immigration reform, but NOT what has been rolled out the last half dozen times. Every bill that has come out since the first major rewrite in 1965 has basically been amnesty and open invitation for illegals to flood across the border.

We are no longer the country of the 19th century with vast open areas in the West. Our cities are overcrowded shit holes run by corrupt communist hacks AND there is no longer a vast area open for the inhabitants to flee to and take up farming.

This is not to mention that we have entire towns in CA with a population > 20,000 in which none of the citizens speak English.  The current crew of "immigrants" do not appear to desire to assimilate and the current crowd of liberals do not think they should. The schools have gone from teaching America as a mixing pot to America as a salad bowl where "diversity" is celebrated and heritage counts for all, unless you have a European heritage then you are a racist.

Yes, there are a lot of things that need to be done to "fix" our immigration laws.  The first one of these should be to repeal that POS of Amnesty Round I that got us where we are today.

We need immigration law that does the following AND that is enforced:

1. Eliminate the BS anchor baby interpretation by providing a definition of what the term “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” means, which is not dashing across the border to deliver a baby.  Personally, I would require that at least one of the parents of any child born in the U.S. be a citizen before that child was eligible for “birthright” citizenship. If not, then the child would have to undergo naturalization.

2. Provide a reliable means for employers to check the status of employees.

3. Provide severe punishments for knowingly hiring illegals (or reckless disregard). That punishment should include jail time for repeat violations.

4. Eliminate ALL benefits for illegals including schools for children.

5. Rewrite legal immigration to allow in immigrants with a desirable education and/or skill set and arrange the waiting list to have the most skilled/educated at the top of the list. (Australian system) Also include a check for communicable diseases (as we did in the past) and provide for immunization. Immigrants from countries on the list of terror support need not apply.

6. For groups that already have large populations in the U.S. who have not assimilated, reduce the allowable numbers until they do (eliminate whole towns that do not speak English)

7. Provide severe penalties for mules.

8. Provide the death penalty for people involved in sex slavery.

9. Eliminate all forms of asylum. That system has been abused to the point of making it a joke. Any true case that needs to be let in should be a case by case special act passed by congress. Get them on record.

10. Immigrants who become involved in any serious crime prior to becoming a citizen should be deported back to their home country.

11. Absolutely no dual citizenship allowed.

Not to mention all the Irish summer workers that flock to Nantucket, etc. When I lived in Ireland, I met several young people who told me they go there every summer and make up random social security numbers.  Nobody checks nor cares.  Meanwhile, I had to jump through hoops to get my temporary Irish work permit, which resulted in me being put on Emergency Tax after 2 months, getting 40% of my wages eaten. 107 hmm trailer for the new Bioshock game

http://tinyurl.com/38kuqbo (straight download link as the site is getting slammed)

unexpected, figured Irrational Games would have been working on a new IP after the first Bioshock.

BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock (which sold over 4 million units worldwide). Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.

Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.

I agree with this.  Personally, if I was illegal, I'd take my kid with me.  Unless I had to go back to someplace like North Korea.

Anyway, no-one seems to have addressed one question I had:  How many generations would this "lack of citizenship" last?

Let's say I cross the border illegally and give birth.  My kid lives here her whole life, but is illegal.  She has a kid here.  Is this grandchild illegal?  And let's say this grandchild has a kid, is the greatgrand child illegal too?  When does it end?

Anyway, that's why I say citizenship depends on where you are born, not to whom you are born.  That doesn't mean that a kid born here to illegals automatically means amnesty for the whole family.

In the middle east, I think that there are Palestinians who for generations have lived in other countries, like Egypt and Jordan and what not.  But each and every generation isn't considered a citizen of Egypt or where ever they or their ancestors were born.  So you have this permanant "underclass" or "stateless" population.  I don't want something like that to happen here.
