PJ O'Rourke had a good take on things like this. He noted that you know you're getting old when instead of looking for a hot willing teen for lewd purposes, you are thrilled when you find a willing teen that will aerate your lawn.

In Colorado. . .

According to the free (and worth every cent) Denver Daily, the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll has conservative Ken Buck leading limo lib Michael Bennet (one ‘t’ TYVM) 49-40 in the race for U.S. Senate.

In the GovernorÂ’s race, Mayor Opie leads conservative Dan Maes by 8 points.  Even if lunatic Tom Tancredo were not in the race, Maes only pulls into a tie, 45-45.

In other results, 76% of Republicans said they were ‘committed to vote’ compared to 59% of Democrats (the remaining 41% said they deserved to be committed and demanded government action in the name of social justice).

Prosecutors, in seeking the 14-year-old-girl suspect be held without bail, described Arteesha Holt in court papers as a "flight risk and a danger to the citizens of Baltimore." The young girl is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, using a handgun in the commission of a violent crime and several other offenses.

She was the black robbery victim and fatally shot her assailant.

Is she being charged for armed robbery because she took back what they'd stolen from her?

The article should have included whatever those "several other offenses" were.

Can't he just eat his waffles buy his shrimp?

As the president walked around the restaurant, some cordoned-off reporters shouted out to him questions, including one about the war in Iraq. Next Tuesday night, the president will deliver an Oval Office address at 8 pm ET, in which he will mark the occasion of the withdrawal of US combat troops from the country.

But the president was in no mood today to discuss the issue with reporters in that setting. He ignored questions for a bit, then turned to the reporters.

"We're buying shrimp, guys,” he said, smiling. “Come on."

48 curious

That photo was jarring at the foot of Lincoln; "restoring honor" -- as if Lincoln's honor is lost? As if we have none without Beck?

And it's unoriginal, being GWBush's original potus campaign rhetoric after Clinton fucked the Oval Office, part of the "miss me yet" mantra.

I didn't link to read of the upcoming Beck/Sharpton battle. Given the temperament of D.C.'s majority populace, I'd expect some honor lost when the shit hits the Beck contingency fan, subsequently requiring Republican politician denunciation of those "radical conservatives". Then again, maybe the rally will simply feature patriotic hymn singing and mom's apple pie.

Good news comrades!

WASHINGTON – New requests for unemployment benefits fell sharply last week, the first decline in a month and a hopeful sign after a raft of negative economic reports.

A few paragraphs later we find:

The department also said the total unemployment benefit rolls climbing steeply, as more people join extended unemployment aid programs that were renewed last month by Congress. During the recession, Congress added up to 73 weeks of emergency aid on top of the 26 weeks typically provided by the states.

All told, about 10.1 million people were receiving unemployment checks in the week ended Aug. 7, the latest data available. That's up about 260,000 from the previous week.

A business should be able to maintain its own image, I agree. [Same applies with Disney being sued by a Muslim female employee who after being hired, has determined to wear her garb at work. Let her wear it under the Wicked Witch's masked costume.]

Chunky girls aren't necessarily seen by everyone as ugly, let alone "obese".  Regardless of aesthetic, were  a court to mandate that Hooters hire regardless of weight, it's simple enough for Hooters to keep that quota of what they deem visually undesirable employees back in the kitchen.

On obesity, "not a disease", aside from choice of diet, obesity is biologically induced. Genetic make-up matters according to scholarly research made readily public this decade. We've known already that once the body produces a fat cell, it's there replacing itself whether or not it's still "fat" never converting into a muscle cell. Mix predisposition with childhood feeding habits, it's often enough cause for lifetime. And once the thyroid breaks down, obesity often follows though the formerly "normal weight" subject's diet/exercise has not changed, or even despite careful diet and daily exercise.

88 The courts have long ruled on the "work dress code rules" are fine. The Muslim scrunt has no leg to stand on and the lawyer she has should be disbarred for incompetence.

As for the other, it is an infringement on private property rights and as such it should be struck down. That being said, the local restaurant given a low profit margin in a near bankrupt State probably doesn't have the resources to fight it.

90 jfalcon, it's not exactly clear how to do it. I think I accidently clicked on the bottom corner of a video once and found out what it did!

If you are talking about ADA, no it is not. That is yet. As I said earlier, it is not a disease, it is a lifestyle choice. (Yes there may be some genetic component but all that does is say you will have a harder time maintaining it low)

But then again, so is being a drunk, and at least one court that I saw allowed a case of ADA suit based on being fired for chronic drunkenness.

In that case, I would have disbarred the judge.

92 71 I know I am an idiot, and ths komputer magic is all new and stuff, but I don't want the website, just the vidio. I really am a mess at this, course I'm about a jillion years old. And drunk.

Damn that is what I would call a fast start.

Didn't see that but here in Ga. Sonny Perdue was crowing about it.  Yay, we suck so bad we deserve a hand out.

Pathetic...

I understand your feelings, but the GZ mosque has to be stopped. Not just because it will be a breeding ground for jihadists and a slap in the face of every real American (a double slap to the memory of those who died on 9/11), but because of the people who are supporting it.

The Bloombergs, Osama Obamas and the rest of the America-hating, self-important thugs who back the GZ mosque need to be slapped down, hard (metaphorically, of course).

Even if the stupefied Noo Yawkuhs aren't out clamoring for sanity, we have to do it. NYC is still part of the United States, and our enemies have already been given too much of a foothold in our land.

This is a bridge too far. It is the hill we need to fight on.

I don't want my fat protected! I'm trying to get rid of it!! (And making progress, slow as it is.)--Mama AJ

You go, girl!

We were already on a restricted to simplicity diet due to an onset of adult allergies, identified by method of elimination. It started with salt free for blood pressure until that stabilized with lecithin granules every night. Then no wheat, no corn, no alcohol, no sugar, no nuts, no dairy, no pork, etc. to avoid horrible allergic reactions. We use Canola, Coconut, Grape Seed and Olive Oils with Smart Balance. Rices and potatoes do for starches, with some oats. And aside from good veggies, some legumes, daily organic beef or chicken 2 meals, fruits make life's meals and snacks enjoyable. Years of that dietary habit and still, no weight loss for me until taking RLC LABS Hypo Support Formula @ People's Pharmacy made all the difference. The medically trained PAs at Peoples Pharmacy have been most helpful for us. I wish we'd gone there all along. In 8 months, without additional exercise, I'm back to my ideal weight having dropped the 50 pounds I've been carrying for nearly a decade, gained while under stress when my spouse was hospitalized 6 months for digestive tract complications from complications, with me gaining weight without change in diet while maintaining 5xweek hour-workouts at the Gym and consistent daily walks with my dog. Go figure. Stress while aging, both lethal. Potent combination.

97 PhoenixGirl@41: Muslims eat shrimp. Sunni interpretation permits all seafood. Shia prohibit shellfish but make a specific exception for shrimp and prawns.

It's only the Joooooos who can never enjoy a shrimp on the barbie.

98 Collateral damage is a nice thing to put on a paper but when the collateral damage is your own uncle or cousin, what passions do these arouse? How do you negotiate? How do you tell people whose homes have been destroyed, whose lives have been destroyed, that this does not justify your actions of terrorism. It's hard. Yes, it is true that it does not justify the acts of bombing innocent civilians, that does not solve the problem, but after 50 years of, in many cases, oppression, of US support of authoritarian regimes that have violated human rights in the most heinous of ways, how else do people get attention? - Imam Raufbat

Somehow, I don't think his rule will be applied to the cab-riding drunk.  Kinda puts the Charles Johnsons of the world in a terrible tizzy, especially now that the stabber's no longer a right-wing bigot.

If our kids were still growing up at home, we'd likely do as you. As if public education wasn't bad enough then requiring parental supervision, today the family itself is under attack, not just kids at school. The haven at home is abused by their peers, socialist society and politicians in government. Kids need their own arsenal of rhetoric to identify their own peer group that negates progressive peer pressure to absolutely hate and reject family all together.

But our kids are grown. And I can't handle listening to ranting any more. No more Rush unless his guest host is great. No more Hannity no matter. Levin isn't on locally before our radio's off. Beck's not on local stations, and we don't do cable. Aside from his mannerisms, the main reasons influencing my avoidance of Beck? 1. He's not usually first on topic. I get wind of news before he makes his presentations. 2. His sincere inconsistency, he means his points absolutely until he doesn't.

My adult daughter, totally apolitical, suggested some time ago that we'd be in better moods if we quit listening to ranting. She had a point. I've gone back to my favorite music while reading and working between some shows I enjoy. Usually no talk radio before Fred Thompson around lunch, and Michael Savage's first hour or so before dinner. I think this Über-Zeitgeist has affected Savage the same as it has me, dropping the rants in preference for dialectics. I enjoy interviews with meaningful guests.  When Mark Steyn hosts [wish he had his own show], he always has my ear, and I enjoyed Breitbart substituting for Savage as well. First we weened ourselves of the MSM. Now in addition to gardening, I'm clearing out the rhetorical clutter to find some peace.
